RESIST: A Shadows of the Reich Novel

Rate this book
They conquered the world. But they cannot conquer the human spirit.

The Axis powers won the war and divided the globe beneath their banners. By 1964, the Reich’s shadow stretches across America—where freedom is a crime, and resistance means death.

Gruppenführer Karl Jünger has given his life to the Reich. Ruthless, disciplined, loyal—until the day he confronts the full horror of what he helped build. Haunted by guilt and hunted by his own, Jünger must decide whether to remain a cog in the machine—or risk everything to defy it.

Felix Schmidt, his young adjutant, is eager to prove himself. But when the Reich betrays him, Felix is thrust into a struggle that will test his courage, loyalty, and soul—forcing him onto a path that collides with rebellion.

Resist is a chilling vision of conscience, betrayal, and redemption—an alternate history in the tradition of The Man in the High Castle and Fatherland.

The novel takes place in the 1960s, and the Nazi Party had taken over Europe and the Americas. The reign of the Fuhrer devistatingly exerted control over the American heartland.

Characters who had spent their lives fighting for and spreading the ideals of the Reich become disillusioned with their role in the tyrannical and oppressive society they helped to build and create. After witnessing a brutal interrogation, the decision is made to leave the position of Nazi leadership and resist by joining the rebellion. While with the rebellion, the protagonists make detailed political decisions and acts of war to resist the Nazi Party's totalitarianism.

In Kalob Tufts' novel, Resist, I was constantly sitting on the edge of my seat wondering was someone going to report treasonous acts, who was releasing resistance secrets, would the hope and actions taken by the resistance and the Minutemen be enough to over come the powerful German army.

The characters are so well flushed out. Their decisions make logical sense and have real weight and decision-making thoughts behind each deliberate act of resistance. The romance (which began as a Florence Nightingale Effect) made sense in terms of how the plot progressed.

If you are a fan of historical fiction, I highly recommend you give Resist by Kalob Tufts a read. It is action-packed, full of political intrigue, and, at its core, a great story about humanity's spirit of hope and doing what is just.

A chilling and gripping “what if” that feels all too real.

Resist imagines a terrifying alternate ending to World War II, where Germany develops a nuclear weapon first and uses it to win the war. The author paints a grim, believable picture of what a Nazi-ruled world might have looked like, especially across the conquered United States.

It’s not an easy read at times. The atrocities described are horrifying, but they’re handled with honesty rather than sensationalism. But in the midst of all these atrocities, there are cracks forming within the Nazi leadership itself, as a few key figures begin to doubt everything they’ve fought for. Their decision to turn against the regime sets up a tense, emotional, and ultimately inspiring resistance story.

This book kept me turning the pages from start to finish. It's dark, thought-provoking, and incredibly well written. Resist is a powerful reminder of why some battles are always worth fighting.

Take a deep breath because you won't come up for air until you finish this intense, thought-provoking rendering of what was a hair away from becoming reality. Each sentence drops like lead, sending your heart pounding, spine tingling, and mind spinning. Just imagine if Germany had won the Second World War...And get a good night's rest before you begin this incredible What If. By the end, you will be exhausted, but extremely satisfied.
