I have just finished “Greyson Gray: Deadfall” by B.C. Tweedt, the third book in the Greyson Gray series.
Hmmm…let me give you an example. When I was watching the Lord of the Rings movies with my (then pre-teen) sons, they’d be all bored in the talking and travel bits, and absolutely entranced with the battle scenes. Meanwhile, I’d be totally bored with the battle scenes…they just seemed to go on and on. There were times in this book that I thought, “You know, my sons would love this” even though they’re now in their 30s, as I waded through, ahem, battle scenes. Honestly, the storyline was great, the writing was good (a couple of misspellings, but I’m a licensed member of the Grammar Police, to/too). I had to wonder how Greyson managed to go SO LONG without sleeping, eating, or drinking. Once again, there was a bit of theology thrown in, but now I recognize the author’s intent, so it made sense.
I was disappointed that book two ended in a cliffhanger, because I was thinking I could just stop after that book, but no. I’m glad I read this one, because it started to explain the far-right/far-left conflict a bit more. I’m hoping that will all be made clear in book 4. Lots of twists and turns (however improbable) made this a fun read, and I think it would be ok for the middle-grade set as well. I’m back to 3-1/2 stars on this one. Yes, I’m a tough grader.
