They left me. He left me.

Malia never wanted to play a part in this war between darkness and light, much less one so vital. But life has never gone according to her wishes and it doesn’t start now. Stuck at the Dark Fraction’s camp with no rescue in sight, she finds her own way out of that cell. One that leaves no room for the sweet girl she thought she was.

Time to leave that version of herself behind and become the monster she has to be to survive. The monster that will get revenge on the people who abandoned her and the boy who never returned his life debt.

Some stuff happened

This book was so long for not a lot to happen. Keahi and Malia fight then get back together is basically all that happens until the end. Also it's very obviously not Keahi's fault Malia was hurt but he continues to hurt her after she comes back and she just lets it go which feels so unfair. The ending was stupid and I can see where this is going. I'm not going to continue this series because I can't read 800 more pages of this story. It feels so different from the one I started.

Omg the trauma Malia went through insane, I loved seeing the tender moments between her and keahi, ong her parents were awful, I’m not satisfied by their deaths also why did the dark fraction all but disappear, who tf are these white soldiers, also keahi better not stay dead

Oof, disappointing, sadly. I was hoping for a 5 star book like the first one and was let down. The tension was good, but the same thing happened nearly five times and the plot just wasn't incredibly gripping. Good plot twist at the end, but was it worth reading the book..? Might have to read the third to find out what happens in response to that twist, but I hope it channels first book energy rather than whatever this was. I really didn't like the FMC's character this time - she changed so much in such a short time (understandably) and never went back (understandably) and I really was hoping it would have more focus on her development...? Her personality issues were not resolved...
Would be a 2 star if the MMC wasn't as perfect as always (though I do feel like we lost a lot of their snappy sarcastic banter - he is now too flexible, will do whatever she says and is so sweet and soft and comforting when he used to be hard and sweet and confident).

Did this hurt? Yes☝🏻 Did I still love it? Definitely😭 I need book 3 to see what happens to the characters after that ending!!
Also, I adore the new covers, the way they go together on my bookshelf makes me so happy!

The plot of this book was bad, to me it made no sense because why was everything so close together (as in the both groups in the war or whatever). There was just so many holes and things that didn’t make sense and honestly it was quite cringy. The writing wasn’t that good, it was way worse than the first book ànd I don’t want to be mean but I was really excited to read the series.

Not an experienced book reader. But this book has my heart racing! I thought towards the end it was a bit quick but i just loved how Malia and Keahi grew together. The end. OMG. I was balling for god knows how long. I’m scared to read the third book

Almost DNF
