Change is afoot for Zak, an orc who lost his big acting break in the fallout from the Unravelling five years ago. Switching careers and downgrading his living arrangements as a 31-year-old wasn’t in his life plan, but the room he rents is tidy, even if it overlooks the abandoned — and supposedly haunted — house next door. That place gives him the creeps, and it doesn’t take long for Zak to find out why.
There’s a ghost living there.
Rose can’t make sense of her new reality. Reduced to a shadow of her former self — a transparent apparition — she is trapped within the confines of the run down and abandoned version of her family’s home. Nobody in this new, strange world can see her.
Except him.
As Zak works through his initial fear, he finds that Rose the ghost isn’t such terrible company after all. Her sad eyes draw him in, her reappearance every night after sunset intrigues him, and her pointed ears, missing memories, and green glow leave him wondering what she really is, and if she’s actually dead after all.
Rose may have last been alive in 1915, but the heart wants what it wants, and Zak wants nothing more than to bring her back.
Lost and Found is a spicy orc x ghost monster romance novel set in Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand, and is the third novel in the Lost Unravelling Monsters Universe series. It can be read as an interconnected standalone.
Ever since I read A Wolf in the Garden I was in love with Allegra’s writing and her world. And I’m living for every new moment we get.
In this story we meet Zak and Rose. But the other characters come back with twists and turns that show that fate connects them all. And it’s all done so well that it makes sense and at the same time shocks you.
Zak and Rose were amazing the first time I read them in the anthology but this expanded version that weaves all the “Unraveling” universe together is even better. They gave me emotion, spice, love, independent stories while growing together and a couple that while falling fast, felt real.
I loved those extra chapters after the fact, seeing Ellie and Van again was super cool and now I feel like I need to reread books 1 and 2 again just for the vibes.
The little mentions of “Little Witch” were killing me. She’s a kid and she’s been there for years and even though that’s not the point of the story, it hit me so hard that I was tearing up and crying for this little girl and her family.
And what was that ending!? Omg I need the next book like air to breathe. And yeah, I’m still waiting for that dragon contractor novella, but Allegra, take all the time you need, enjoy being pregnant and having the baby, I’ll wait as long as you take!
Thank you for the opportunity to reread this as an eARC. I truly love these characters so much, and always have a blast being back in this world.
Quotes:
"I'm not lost when I'm with you." "You found me. You found me, Zak. I'm still afraid, but I would be so much more of a mess without you."
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Rating: 4/5
I’ve never read a book quite like this, what a sweet and touching read this ended up being! Our main character Rose’s storyline was so unique and emotional. The plot surrounding her existence was incredibly intriguing and well done. Our hero of this book Zak was an absolute delight, and his love for Rose was so tender-hearted and lovely. Though I would have loved for this book to be longer, that’s only because I so badly wanted to spend more time with these characters. There were a few plot points in this story that I would have loved to get resolution for in this book but ultimately this story was focused on the romantic relationship between our two main characters, which I felt was done beautifully. The world that this author has created is so inventive and I'm so excited to see where else she decides to take it 💚
**Thank you to the Author for the ARC; all opinions are my own.**
4.25 ⭐️ 3 🌶
I clearly need to read more Allegra Hall because this was fantastic! I adored Zak and Rose and trying to piece together the mystery of her predicament. I'm looking forward to the next one- so many questions!
ANOTHER FANTASTIC NOVELLA FROM ALLEGRA 👏 This one is definitely spicier than her other one (a breathe of fresh air) which I should have seen coming based on the tropes 😂
Although this can be read as a standalone it heavily links into to the main storyline and had several twists you'd notice if you've read the whole series!
Zac the orc is hot, Rose the ghost was hot but the story was also super sweet!
Recieved an ARC - thoughts are mine and mine only. Allegra Hall knocked it out of the park again! I cannot believe how fast I entirely demolished this book It was incredible! I do love a bit of mystery as I did with wolf in the garden and this was such a fun read! We get to see even more species in the unravelling monsters universe and honestly I couldn't be happier! I do love me some rep and SPOILERS- v v v v v v v v v THERES A MOTHMAN HELLO?!!! I LOVE IT AHGDJHSDKJHS Anyway 10/10 would read again <33
I loved this story so much!! These two had such a sweet dynamic that they had me tearing up a couple times. I especially enjoyed how supportive they were of each other, and the positive rep/fighting the stigma for male dancers.
I always enjoy learning more about this universe and the characters and magic system in it. This one is definitely connected to the other Unravelling Monsters books, so I’d make sure to read the other books before this one!
I love love love this world, and the way Allegra writes her characters is just so authentic. They all feel like they could walk off the page.
This story was so so good, and it’s setting up more in this universe that I just KNOW is going to leave me a sobbing mess on the floor.
This is one of my absolute favorite series, you’ve gotta read it!!

Thank you so much to Allegra Hall for sending me a copy for an honest review. 💖
I didn’t want to use my old novella-version reveiw for this expanded version but somehow, I ended up writing almost the same thing for both versions, lmao. That speaks to how much I enjoyed Lost and Found, though, because what are the odds? (We can thank Brain Fog too, lol. I have the habit of accidentally telling the same stories to the same people for the same reason!)
I absolutely adored Zak and Rose! Both characters were really lovely and I enjoyed reading from Zak’s POV a lot. I feel like there arent enough monster roms where we get the male leads POV with the female leads, let alone have the majority of the “screen time” so to speak. It was refreshing that both characters are non-human but still human enough to be extremely relatable, and that while Zak and Rose very much have their own incredible love story, they are part of the overarching plot going on in the Unravelling Monsters series. Rose’s circumstances and the way that Allegra ties her into the main plot of the series was just mind blowing, I’m genuinely in awe of her skill as a wordsmith and storyteller (both as a reader and as a fellow writer). It was so satisfying to read but also left me with so many questions that have me eager to continue reading!!
Thankfully this expanded version does answer a lot of those questions, and boy oh boy!! Those last chapters? AMAZING. The plot twists/reveals had me nearly yelling out loud “I knew it!!” excitedly. I am extremely eager to find out what happens now. The way that Allegra Hall has woven together the lives of all the main characters we’ve met so far has me vibrating with the need to know how things turn out for them. Getting to spend more time with Ellie and Van, as well as Zara and Seth was a treat. I loved Van and Zak’s budding friendship as they trauma-bonded over their mates lol. I could go on but I don’t want to drop any spoilers! This is a must read!!
I genuinely love the world that Allegra Hall has created and the characters within it, its always such a pleasure to read her content as an advanced reader.
Rose appears in her old family house every night, confused, scared, and completely alone. In the day, she is taken to a place that forces her to forget who she is and what she interacts with within the realm. A handsome orc named Zak moves in next door and surprise, he's the only one who can see her. As they get to know each other, Zak begins to think that Rose may not be a ghost after all and vows to help her.
The storytelling in this novel felt special. I enjoyed the originality of the characters and the way that they communicated and bonded. I'm a huge fan of it being based in New Zealand. The language, history, and NZ slang blended well with the characters and I felt really gave something unique to the story.
The spice in this book is top-tier tier and I truly enjoyed how they had to maneuver and deal with her being a ghost. 😉
The unraveling is a neat idea that I felt myself thinking about throughout the story. Imagine working with a dude who one day just turns into a huge orc? I mean, I would be psyched, but I enjoyed how the author gave a bit of insight into how it affected society and impacted the beings who held onto a glamor or didn't know what they were before, and how it has impacted our world.
The relationship between Zak and Rose is sweet, intimate, and hot. They balance each other well. Rose is supportive, curious, and deeply loving. Zak is the right amount of protective, strong yet sensitive. Trying to find himself again, he finds himself through his love for Rose.
The portrayal of witches, werewolves, and fae was fun and I loved how it all blended into this world that the author has created.
Highly recommended. I haven't read the other books in this series yet. Although it can be read as a standalone, I will be reading the other books in the Unraveling Monsters series, as I find myself enchanted with this world and honestly don't want to leave.
This is a spectacular paranormal monster romance! It’s the 3rd full length book in the Lost Moon: Unravelling Monsters series (4th overall, if you include the A Breath of Fresh Air novella). These books should be read in order to avoid spoilers.
MMC Orc Zak was an up-and-coming actor before the Unraveling, but since then his life has taken a drastic turn. Down on his luck, he moves in with a group of college kids next door to a creepy old house. One night, after coming home from his haunted house job, he encounters a beautiful ghost, FMC Rose. Rose isn’t sure where she goes during the day, and she’s pretty certain she’s dead, or at least hasn’t been corporeal since 1915. The two quickly form a friendship… and a lot more.
I loved this book! The romance was fantastic and the spice was steamy and even unexpected at times. But, the character development and how it tied into the overall plot of the series really took me by surprise. I thought it was going to be one kind of story, but it went somewhere even more exciting.
While this book had a HEA for the MCs, it left some unanswered questions and included an extended epilogue that hints at what the next installment will explore. I can’t wait to see what Hall has in store for Book 4!

*** I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
This was such an interesting take on a ghost story! I love Zak and Rose. Their story was beyond touching and just really sweet. I felt horrible for Rose whenever she was dragged away from Zak when her ghost form would fade. The angst in the story was top notch and had me worried about these two characters.
Let me tell you though. The spice?! I loved it. It was so different compared to other ghost stories that I've read. I love that authors are out there still switching things up and finding new ways to write spicy scenes.
The story fits perfectly into the larger world of the Unravelling Monsters universe. I do think it can be read as a standalone, but that the reader would benefit from at least reading the first book in the series. I loved seeing Ellie and Van again and I'm super excited for the next book in this series. Allegra did a fantastic job of writing not only a wonderful story about Rose & Zak, but she really did wonderful at moving the overall series plot along and giving us just enough to keep us on the edge of our seats.
👻 Lost and Found by Allegra Hall, ARC Review 👻 - “Have you ever looked at the stars, when they’re fading just before dawn? They’re there in your periphery, but when you look at them directly, sometimes you can’t see them because they’re too faint, and then they’re gone.” 🌟 - Thank you so much Allegra Hall for the ARC copy of this book!! Be sure to get your copy today!! ☺️ - I was hooked from the first chapter! The story and its characters pulled me in and immersed me in a world I quickly fell in love with. This book was a beautiful blend of the author’s unique magical world, while also showcasing many areas around the country of New Zealand. I cannot wait to read more books by this author! 💖 - Zak finds himself in the midst of change. His movie star dreams collapsing, he ends up having to downgrade his living situation. While his new room is nice, and his roommates tolerable, he can’t help but feel off about the abandoned house next door. When returning from a gig one night, Zak notices a glowing light in the neighboring home. Is it a fluke? An intruder? No it’s… a ghost? 🕯️ - My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5)
I just have to really say one thing, and that is that I love this world that Hall has created. The setting, the magic, the different realms and how the current world view changed when the barrier separating those realms broke. For inquiring minds, this isn’t a stand alone, so please start with A Wolf in the Garden to begin your reading journey!
Overall, this is basically a stop gap providing what seems like an unrelated very sexy romp between an orc and a ghost but eventually turns into something so much more. This has monsters, shifters, fae, and an overarching story about the fight between good and evil.
I obviously enjoyed this immensely. My only complaint is that it simply wasn’t enough, and sadly, I suspect that there’s a long wait ahead of me for the next installment. However, I’ll be at the front of the line for when the next book does drop!
A huge thank you to the author for a copy to review honestly
Rose is the ghost next door to Zak, a male entertainer trying to figure out his life after the Unravelling where he was revealed to be an orc. As she appears every night their attraction grows, but how can he possibly have a happily ever after with a ghost?
This is a great addition to the Unravelling Monsters world. Zak and Rose are a perfect couple and I loved seeing how their relationship developed without any ability to physically be in the the same space. And it was so nice to catch up with some of the characters from past books, seeing Van and Ellie again was so good! Allegra manages to take us on a journey and get attached to new characters, while also expanding her world and setting up a big future. And you may wonder how can there be spice with an incorporeal ghost, but Allegra Hall does not disappoint, The spicy scenes are so hot!
This was a spicy novella with a wonderful romance that overcomes even ghostliness as an obstacle and gives us a perfect HEA!
Allegra Hall has written a cozy romance, and I absolutely loved it. This was my first ghost romance, so I had no clue how this was going to go. Zak and Rose were awesome. I immediately liked them. Both were a little lost when they found each other. Their connection was almost instantaneous, if you ignore that Zak was a little afraid of Rose at first. Haha! The romance was incredibly sweet. I liked that the story really focused on connection, but that doesn't mean things didn't get spicy. I couldn't help but root for them as a couple, but I must admit, I was nervous. I mean, Rose is a ghost, for goodness' sake. How was this going to end well? However, after a bunch of unexpected twists and turns, I got my happily ever after. And just when I thought it was over, bam, an unbelievable, jaw-dropping plot twist in the bonus epilogue. Like, what is happening!?
Lost and Found was so charming. I loved the romance between Zak and Rose. While it is a standalone, I would highly recommend reading the other books in this amazing universe. I can't wait for the next book.
The way that Allegra connects these characters and their stories is perfection. She is weaving the most beautiful world of magic and mystery. It feels like for every answer we get in each new book there are five more questions or theories that pop up. But that just makes me all the more excited for each release!
Zak and Rose's love story was so sweet but filled with some angst and uncertainty. Just like Van and all the other monster characters in this world, Zak was very protective of his love and there to support her in any way he could. He just wanted her to be happy. Major swooning happened the entire time I was reading this.
I loved seeing characters from previous books show up and the way they all came together for one of their own brought all those cozy, found family feels back I had reading the other books. If you want to be really invested in these characters and fully experience all the emotions I highly recommend reading the whole series!
This was a great, spicy novella set within Allegra’s existing Unravelling Monsters Universe. Zak, an orc, is having trouble finding his place in the world since the unravelling outed him. Trouble finding work, trouble finding friends, and trouble feeling confident in himself. In a cascade of circumstances, he ends up meeting the girl next door and she really lights up his life... except she seems to be a ghost from the early 1900s. Rose, cute transparent ghostie girl that she is, just wants to be seen. Zak gives her that (and more!). With help from some other characters that readers might be familiar with, they figure out that there is more going on with Rose than originally thought. Zak and Rose get their happily ever after and readers get a nice little peek at what might be coming next in this universe. There’s just the right amount of world building and character development and spice (yeah, ghost sex).
If you have been following this series since A Wolf in the Garden, then you already know the rollercoaster coming with this book. Allegra has created a hauntingly beautiful world that gives and takes, allowing those within the altered space to find love in very magical places. I've laughed and cried with every book, but this was touched my heart incredibly deep.
Zak. The handsome, ever talented Orc who starts over after a career lapse will have you wishing you could give him a hug. Rose. The sweet and gently optimistic ghost who captures his attention one faithful night. The seemingly forbidden love that grows between them is a cycle of bittersweet emotions. Happiness and Sadness lying too close together. Close but not close enough.
I wiped my tears as I read through their journey and smiled through what becomes their new reality. If there's a book to make you believe in fate, it's this one.
I absolutely adored this. I'm so happy to have received an ARC, so thank you to Allegra Hall for that. She is able to write such beautiful stories with rich world building and interesting characters. I do wish there was a bit more character development, Zak had a hint of insecurity revolving around his career, but there wasn't a lot of chances for growth as there wasn't too much depth to the characters. I think maybe it would've been different had it been a bit longer, but for what it was, and knowing the authors challenges with publishing regarding her own pregnancy, it's understandable and I can't discount her work for that. This book was overall a nice, sweet but tense and spicy little book, and I'm so happy to have gotten the chance to ARC read for it.
I initially read the short story version of this that came out last year and loved it! And it was so fun reading the expanded version where we get more lead up and more time at the end with Zak and Rose!
I really love the world Allegra has built in the Unravelling Monsters universe: The good and the bad of big changes as a society. And we see this even more from Rose’s perspective because she is from 1915.
And of course I loved all the cameos from other stories in this world!
This book is for you if you love: *monsters (orcs, wolves, fae, etc.) *cinnamon roll MMC *he’s a male entertainer *she’s from early 20th century *mysterious magic *not all is as it seems with our FMC…
Zak and Rose are ultimate long distance relationship champions. I loved watching them both revitalize each other as their relationship grew, Zak coming out of the post-Unravelling depression of his sidelined acting career and Rose trying to navigate her realization that she's a ghost and everything she knew in life was gone. But their little microcosm of safety in her old home was the perfect space for them to grow together.
And then when the bigger story came barreling into the picture, so many little things just slotted into place perfectly and I can't wait for Allegra to toss us a few more crumbs of plot to gobble up like the hungry like gremlins we are!
4.5 stars. This story is the longer, more detailed version of a novella published in an anthology last year. It is dual POV, well written, and a somewhat eerie, darker, contemporary fantasy romance between Zak, the male orc lead, and Rose, the female presumed ghost lead. I enjoyed this complex, more detailed story that felt more complete than the original novella. I enjoyed seeing more of Rose’s perspective, as well as the greater immersion in the overarching plot of this series. I enjoyed the steamy moments together. I enjoyed the supportive secondary characters and the set up for the next story.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.
If you're looking for a new take on a ghost romance, or a monster x monster romance, this is the book for you! Rose and Zak's romance is a little angsty, super sweet and shockingly spicy! Kudos to Allegra Hall for getting creative with the ghost spice, that was fun. And Zak was so so lovely.
This was a standalone read for me, although it's book three of a series. There were a few noticeable references or callbacks, but nothing that detracted from my reading experience. I'm looking forward to getting into the rest of the series though!
I absolutely loved the book! The only reason I read it was that the cover matched the bingo card prompt, and yet from the very first chapter I realised how well written it is and how enticing. With quotes like: “It seems so very wrong to hold grief and gratitude in my heart all at once, and yet I do.” I absolutely fell in love with the authors writing. As this is the third installment in the series (could be read as a standalone) so I’ll for sure be reading more from her!
The characters were fleshed out, lovable and believable and love making scenes were, well, interesting.
This was a wildly sweet story that had me so happy to be back wrapped up within the Unravelling Monsters universe!
We get an orc MMC with a ghost FMC and allllll the sex positivity which is an element of Allegra's writing that I completely adore. Throw in a dose of mystery and a bunch of cameos from other novels, and I was well and truly hooked.
The allusions to the overarching plot were fantastic and as usual with the Unravelling Monsters universe, I cannot wait to see what comes next.
I really enjoyed this book when I read it the first time and this addition just improved on that experience! This time we get to see into Rose’s head as well. I loved getting to watch Zack and Rose fall for each other again. They are so sweet! It was also great getting to see past characters again. I love how Hall has been building this world and the overarching story. Also that reveal in the bonus epilogue… ahhhh so pumped!! I look forward to what Hall has in store for us next!
The more I read, the more obsessed I became with this book. The world building is incredibly detailed and sets up for more in the future. I’m so excited to see what happens next. The romance between Rose and Zak is beautiful! It was so angsty and adorable watching them realise they love each other, I couldn’t put this book down 🥰 I loved seeing characters like Ellie and Van again and seeing what they were up to. LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. NO NOTES FOR THIS BOOK. PERFECT.
Such a good story, there is some mystery and intrigue mixed in to this slow burn romance. I love the sex positive outlook on the MMC and his career shift To a dancer. You get the HEA for these characters but there other intermingled characters that leave you a bit of a cliffhanger. Love that little tie in for the next book in the series.
This is now the second time I’ve read this book and it was just as good as the first!! I absolutely adored Zak and Rose’s story and I’m so glad they’re having their moment now.
I loved the mystery of the story and the potential Easter eggs dropped for future books. I have so many questions and cannot wait for book 4’s release to hopefully figure out more. Especially re: Little Witch!!
Maybe it was because it wasn’t a full novel but it felt a little rushed to me. It may also be because I absolutely loved Howl and A Wolf in the Garden (read them if you haven’t yet). As familiar characters entered the storyline I could see how well this short story set up for the next book. So a good book, just not my favorite but I will definitely be reading more from this author.
