Some powers are buried. Others refuse to be forgotten. And one wants revenge.
The land of Innisfallen is under attack, besieged by shadow beasts under control of a dark power. For four endless years, winter has gripped the fae world—crops have withered, villages stand silent, and the magic that once thrived has vanished, along with all memory of it.
Reagan, an 18-year-old fae, has spent those years trapped in an elite court training program, forbidden from returning home. When she discovers she may never be allowed to see her little sister again, Reagan makes a desperate escape. But her plan is shattered by the arrival of strangers from another kingdom carrying an ancient artifact tied to a forgotten power. The brothers, each more beautiful than the other, ignite passions in Reagan she has never before experienced.
Drawn into the brothers’ mission to break the curse over their world, Reagan faces an army of dark creatures, willing to do whatever it takes to save her sister and all the kidnapped fae. An artifact stirs something in Reagan, awakening a power she never knew she had—a power that could hold the key to Innisfallen’s salvation. Or destroy everything in her path.

“Innisfallen Accursed is an intriguing and intoxicating fantasy story with a feisty young fae and two of the most charismatic and cheekiest damn fae alive. And lordy, Shay and Nova, what can I say? I am obsessed with those two, possibly more so than I am with the shadow daddy himself, Rhysand. What I really loved about the writing style of this author . . . is that, despite the world-building and background information she provided, she didn't let that slow down the pace of the story. Overall, this story was . . . intriguing, intoxicating, and very hard to put down. I am excited to see what comes next for Reagan, Shay, and Nova.”
Reagan with no choice is being trained to become a soldier. When her unit is moved to another outpost she decides to take matters into her own hands and try to get back to her little sister. As she is running she is taken and then rescued by two brothers who change her world entirely. This book had a unique premise and was fast paced and action packed. It ended pretty abruptly and i can’t wait to see what happens next.
What?? But she hasn't bonded with Brody yet!!!! Who else loves to hate being left with that 'Nooo what happens next' feeling?
I read the very first sentence, and I just knew i would enjoy this story.
'Sometimes I want to burn this place down and watch the fire consume it all— including everyone inside— with a purifying vengeance.
Reagan is ruthless! Upon hearing news of mass people going missing in the land of innisfallen, Reagan is commanded to journey on to another outpost after completing 4 years combat training for the Queens guard. While others are granted permission to go home and check in on family, Reagan is denied, and she is having none of that! Her and her friend Fin decide to desert the group travelling on to outpost 4 so she can see her sister after not having contact with anyone for the entirety of her training. After getting caught in a snowstorm, they take cover in a cave and are met with confrontation with 2 brothers from another court, who possess an artifact with a forgotten power. she joins their quest to unlock the faes' stolen powers. During their journey, Reagan faces an army of dark creatures, but she is willing to do whatever it takes to save her sister and all the kidnapped fae. An artifact stirs something in Reagan, awakening a power she never knew she had-a power that could hold the key to Innisfallen's salvation. Or destroy everything in her path.
It's fast-paced and gets straight into action, and i loved the playful relationship between Reagan, Nova, Shae, and Brody. I can't wait for the next book.
*** Thank you to netgalley and Bernhardt books for the ARC, the above review is my honest opinion and has not been influenced in any way.
Very few books I've read this past year have been 5 stars, with some of them being trilogies or quartets rather than individual pieces. I have never had to wait for a sequel to be released as I typically find series near their final stages, but this story.. I am DYING for the next one already and this one hasn't even been released yet! From the first sentence to the very end I was hooked and could not put the book down. Every time I had to leave Innisfallen, I would find myself constantly thinking about what was going to happen next. There were obstacles constantly popping up to stop their journey which left me on the edge of my seat and fed in to the urgent feeling of reading more.
The world building is very much on the level of The Hobbit or Harry Potter, I would say, and I felt so immersed in the beauty of Innisfallen, even during this long winter curse that has encapsulated everything. As the story progressed and powers started getting revealed, it began to remind me of Winx as no two fae have the same abilities. Due to the curse of forgetting everything, the discovery of each other's powers makes a bigger impact while the characters themselves are also learning everything with the reader. There is definitely some underlying darkness in our main characters that isn't fully explored, but it is relatable to how people typically feel in real life but don't act upon. Throughout the story, there was lots of humor that had me giggling out loud, especially involving the violent nature of our main character, Reagan.
I would warn people that this book did hint at and mention sexual topics frequently (arousal, the topic of mating to strengthen genetic pools, discussion of attraction to people, sexual tension, "primal instincts"), so I would not recommend this to anybody younger than high-school age. The only actions that occur would be two kisses and some nudity (some power usage results in nudity, but the genitals are covered and never actually mentioned in that detail).
Thank you so much to Netgalley and Jenny for the ARC! These are my honest opinions and I am definitely excited for the next one.
Innisfallen Accursed has an intriguing premise of a cursed fae world trapped in endless winter, featuring a forgotten magic and a feisty heroine.
Reagan, the main character, is fierce and stubborn. She’s been stuck in training for years and finally decides to break free to find her sister, which leads her straight into trouble. Enter two fae brothers who pull her into a much bigger quest involving ancient artefacts and dark creatures.
The writing is engaging and easy to read, but it lacks depth. The pacing feels quite rushed, and the absence of valuable world-building and character development detracts from the story. There’s clearly history and a strong magic system in Innisfallen but it isn’t explored to its fullest. I also wanted a little more emotional buildup between the characters; the connections are fun but happen very quickly and therefore fall rather flat.
Overall, Innisfallen Accursed is an enjoyable, fast-paced fantasy with a lot of potential.
I received an Advance Reader Copy (ARC) of this book through NetGalley. Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book and provide an honest review.
In *Innisfallen: A Cursed*, the fae world is trapped in a relentless winter, with magic all but vanished. Reagan, an 18-year-old fae, escapes from an elite court to save her sister, encountering two alluring brothers on a quest to break a dark curse. As she discovers her hidden powers through an ancient artifact, Reagan battles shadow beasts and faces the truth that her sister's fate is tied to her abilities. Just as she gains confidence, a shocking revelation threatens to upend everything, and the quest to save her sister turns into a larger issue that needs solving. An enjoyable 4.5 star read, with a bit of a cliffhanger at the end.
Magnificently Crafted Dark Fantasy!!! Innisfallen Accursed is a debut fantasy novel that weaves loyalty, loss, and magic into every snow-laced page. Set in a cursed land gripped by an unnatural winter, the atmosphere is thick with mystery and quiet dread.
If you love dark fairytales and heroines with a heart, Innisfallen Accursed could be your next obsession. The cold might freeze the land, but Reagan’s fire burns through every chapter.
What a debut novel from fantasy author Jenny Simard Labranche! There's no question that she has put in the hours . . . and knows exactly what the readers want: a strong, complex FMC with an epic destiny to change the world she lives in. Fans of this genre won't be disap pointed in the high stakes, the intriguing secondary cast, and the nonstop adventure. There's no doubt in my mind that this author is here to stay!
She has been a prisoner for a long time and she finds out she will never be allowed to leave and see her sister again. She decides to fight to get home when two brothers appear and she is soon caught up in their mission to break the curse. She will gain a power which could help or destroy her. See where it will all lead I received an advance copy from hidden gems and a great read
A good book with some interesting twists on classic themes. It felt a little rushed at times, but I feel like there is more of this story coming. It feels like the start of a very solid old-style fantasy series.
A good action pack I live her getting to known the two brothers helping her her power seem interesting I like her goal of trying to be with her sister my only problem book is too short I want book 2😁
