This book is an interesting approach to Alexander the Great's story as experienced by his close female friend. There are passages of real beauty and power in it. I especially liked the description of the entry into India. My only real caveat with the book is that I would have loved a short discussion at the back of the book telling me how much of the material about the protagonist is based on fact and how much was imagined. I believe this is Ms. Sumner's first published novel. I look forward to seeing her future work. I think her writing has real potential.
