Ten Sovereigns guard the fragile balance of Life, Death, Mercy, Revenge, Pleasure, Pain, Fury, Peace, Joy, and Sorrow. Bound by ancient Law, they may whisper to mortals and guide them within the limits of their charge. But above all, one command to love a mortal is forbidden.
Eira, Sovereign of Peace, has always obeyed. Her realm is still and kept in Balance until she meets Adrian, a mortal artist whose paintings capture the the very threads of destiny itself. Drawn to him against her will, Eira crosses the veil again and again, risking discovery and the disruption of Balance.
When the Fates learn what Eira has done, the Sovereigns are divided. Some demand punishment, others see opportunity, and the Loom begins to unravel. To protect Adrian, Eira must face her siblings, the Laws that bind her, and the truth about who Adrian really is.
A forbidden love. A secret older than the Sovereigns. And a choice that could shatter the threads of existence forever.
Threads of Fate is the first installment in the sweeping romantasy saga Chronicles of the Sovereigns.
Lana has loved writing since childhood, beginning with poetry and eventually expanding into full-length stories. A lifelong reader, she gravitates toward fantasy, science fiction, and romance (especially if it’s spicy!). These genres continue to inspire her own storytelling, and she loves creating fantasy and romance worlds with much more of both still to come! When she isn’t writing, Lana enjoys traveling, tending to her plants, and spending time outdoors, where she finds much of her creativity and peace.
As a non Romantasy and even just as a low fantasy reader, I didn't know how I would find this. I gave it a go because the title got me. I love stories about fate, that's where I dabble in the fantasy. I had to flex my mythology muscles with this which I hadn't used since I was young. Even though this isn't based necessarily on any historical mythology, it has similar concepts which I did love. 10 sibling called sovereigns who reign over an aspect of life. Each one having their own opposite (Life & Death, Revenge & Mercy, Pain & Pleasure, Peace & Fury, Joy & Sorrow) each with their own realm and name - I have to admit I'd rather their names were just what they are as I found it difficult to remember which name was which sovereign. We follow Peace as she pops in and out of the mortal realm and is drawn to Adrian a mortal artist with a special ability he shouldn't have. The law of Balance forbids sovereigns to fall in love with a mortal and so the conflict begins and the war of the fates begins. Although short, the writing is poetic. Descriptive, ethereal and emotional. The book packs a punch of information and immersed me into a whole new world of possibilities. Warning the book ends in a cliffhanger so we are going to have to wait for more instalments in the series.
Many thanks to Lana J Publishing for providing me with a copy of the book for review via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
I am grateful to have been selected for this ARC. I have found myself drawn to fantasy and slow burns lately and this was an amazing mixture of both. He is the stillness that Peace needs…
I’ll be honest—Threads of Fate didn’t grab me right away. The opening felt like being dropped into a world already in motion, and I struggled to keep up with all the names, laws, and titles. For a while, I worried it would be one of those fantasies where the atmosphere overshadows the story.
But somewhere around the second act, things changed. As Eira’s inner conflict deepened and Adrian blurred the line between muse and mystery, I realized I’d quietly fallen under its spell. What started as distant and cosmic became unexpectedly intimate. There’s a line where Eira talks about “the silence between heartbeats,” and it captures the ache of wanting something you can’t have perfectly.
The romance here is slow and reverent, not fiery or rushed. Eira and Adrian feel like two lost pieces finally finding each other. Adrian especially surprised me—he isn’t a typical mortal love interest. His art, gentleness, and quiet defiance give him real depth.
The concept of ten Sovereigns, each ruling an aspect of existence, is fascinating. It could’ve felt gimmicky, but Williams uses it to explore how even divine beings can unravel under the weight of emotion.
It’s not a flawless book—the first quarter drags and the prose can get heavy—but by the end, it’s poetic, emotional, and haunting in the best way. Threads of Fate starts as mist and ends as fire, leaving that bittersweet stillness after the last page.
A luminous beginning—I’ll definitely be watching for the next book.
The descriptions of death, revenge, and pleasure are so intense! The author's writing is evocative, painting vivid pictures in your mind. It's like you're right there with the characters, feeling the emotions and sensations. That mix of darkness and passion is intoxicating! OH MY GOD. What a cliffhanger! I'm literally on the edge of my seat, and I can't wait to dive into the second book to find out what happens next! The suspense is killing me!
I really loved this captivating and intense romantasy! It was my first time reading a story like this, and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute. The forbidden love keeps you on the edge of your seat. The gods, the sovereign, everything was very well written. I’m so glad I read it as an ARC and can’t wait to see what’s next!
Feedback for Threads of Fate by @lanajwilliamsauthor
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 stars from me. I read it pretty quickly too....
I had an instant connection to our MFC Eira. Fated to be immortal, bound to duty as "Peace"... somehow connecting to her character unknown why. Feeling what ahe felt, how she felt. So much pain, and anxiety for wanting to live a life , finally how she wanted.
Enter Adrian, someone who she has a bond with and unsure why. That i wont spoil. Because O.M.G
Lana, really though. Cliffhanger? We had words. They remain 😆🤣 (and yes i stand by what i said in our convo for book 2... if it happens.... RIOT!!!)
Overall 5 Star rating. It is a quick read and fast paced. but SOOOO goood. Roll on Book 2.
This book was absolutely amazing words can’t describe how much I enjoyed this book the plot was amazing and the characters are also very interesting and amazing I can’t wait for book 2
Threads of Fate pulls you into a world ruled by the Sovereigns, immortals who control every thread existence. Eira, the Sovereign of Peace, is drawn to a human, Aidan, and they discover a love for each other that is strictly forbidden. As she continues to seek him out, she sets off a chain of events that could alter fate itself.
This was not my typical read; however, I was drawn in by the Forbidden Romance and dove in. I'm so glad I did. The author's writing is unlike any I have ever read - deep, emotional, and I was truly pulled into the story like it was playing out in front of me. I felt calm and at peace while reading, which would track and Eira is the Sovereign of Peace. I was captivated by her and Adrian's love story; so little words between them, but their eyes said more than enough.
I truly didn't know which direction the ending was going. All throughout the book, I was wondering how a HEA could ever be possible without fate crumbling around them. But then the plot twists started, and they just kept coming, and I devoured all of it. I was captivated, intrigued, and extremely disappointed that I was left with all my questions unanswered! I am extremely excited for the next book; I need to know how these twists in fate play out!!
The sole reason for it losing the star is the fact that it's written in third POV. I have a harder time connecting with the characters when I'm reading about them, and not as them. As amazing of a read it was, I honestly just prefer a duo POV, where I can feel like I'm living the story in their eyes, feeling what they are feeling, rather than watching it from the outside.
All in all, an amazing read, I would absolutely recommend and will be continuing Eira and Adrian's story with them when the next chapter releases!
I want to preface this by saying the writing is beautiful, so descriptive and creative but story was just not for me.
Overall, it was a good body of work. It read well, the characters were well thought out, and I cannot go on enough about how descriptive the author is in their writing. I felt like I was there oftentimes. The longing between the main characters was palpable and I could feel MYSELF feeling anxious as the FMC was faced with her actions. It took me longer to read than normal because I struggled to be drawn in, although the last 25% of the book I could not put it down.
One recommendation I would have is maybe a glossary to keep track of all the players and what different objects are within the world of the Sovereigns. That would probably be the only thing I could add. I really did enjoy reading Lana’s words but I struggled with the story and that was more theme preference than fault of the body of work. Lana is very talented, the way she can put you into Eira’s world or make your heart race as the climax comes to a head. I will definitely consider reading more work by the author because I could see myself coming around to the themes and genre of the book.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This story starts off with a bang you’re immediately dropped into a world woven with divine laws, destiny threads, and emotions that hit deep. The writing feels lyrical and intentional, like a tapestry being crafted right in front of you.
We follow Adrian, a mortal artist who can see the threads of fate, and Eira, the Sovereign of Peace, one of ten powerful immortals who maintain balance in the world. Their love is forbidden, dangerous, and high-stakes in every sense. If Eira breaks the ancient laws of the Sovereigns, the consequences echo far beyond just their hearts.
I loved the emotional tone of the writing. It’s soft and heavy all at once beautifully crafted, beautifully felt. The world-building around the Sovereigns (peace, death, mercy, revenge, etc.) was unique and atmospheric, though as the first book in the series, you can tell it’s setting a foundation for bigger things to come.
"He is a place where my stillness learns to move" - Eira
What a wirlwind of a read. From the very first chapter, the pace sweeps you along, never giving you a chance to lose interest. The writing itself is stunning and lyrical, almost poetic at times, drawing you deeper into the world with vivid descriptions of both the characters and the richly crafted settings.
What stood out most was the depth of the characters. Each felt layered and alive, and the way their personalities and struggles were woven into the story made it easy to become invested. The scenes themselves were painted with such clarity that it felt almost cinematic—like you could step into the world and see every detail unfolding before your eyes.
That said, the book did feel rushed. With so much potential in the characters and worldbuilding, it could have easily been stretched into 450+ pages without losing momentum. Instead, I found myself craving more build up, more breathing space between the action, and more time to linger with the characters. Despite that, it left me eager to dive into the next installment. If this is just the beginning, I can’t wait to see where Book Two will take us.
Wow, this book was everything! I was completely swept up in this captivating and intense romantasy. From the very first page, the forbidden romance between Eria and Adrian is masterful, creating a palpable tension that kept me on the edge of my seat. Watching Eria grapple with the choice between her lifelong duty and her heart's true desire was so compelling—it literally had me staying up late just to see what would happen next. The author did a fantastic job with the world-building, and I was completely invested in every aspect of the story. I particularly loved how each of the sovereigns and gods were brought to life, feeling both ancient and incredibly present. I was lucky enough to receive this as an ARC, and I am so glad I did because that cliffhanger ending left me absolutely reeling and dying to know what happens next. This book is a must-read, and I'm already counting down the days until the next book in the series!
Just ‘wow’! I immensely enjoyed this story. The main thing that captivated me was the way it was beautifully written. The author showed an amazing use of words and descriptions. I could literally envision everything I was reading, see the world build before my eyes. I could feel the want, the anger, the pain, the love. For a short story, I feel like I got a so much out of it. I seen somewhere it can be compared to The Sandman Tv series, and I got that. Fates, looms and threads, divine beings. The fantasy part was there, and it was fantastic. But there was also the romance, and it was a slow burn, but it was like seeing it unravel in real time. It was forbidden, it was wanting, it was burn the world down for love kind of romance. And then there was the family bond. The caring and the rivalry. Standing together for each other. And then the ending, oh the cliffhanger has got me wanting more! Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this story and hope to see what comes next.
I'm screaming inside my body. How could it end like this?!
Threads of Fate is so beautifully written. As soon as Chapter 1 started, I could hear the rain and smell the cinnamon. There is nothing I love more than an author who can weave (get it 😂) words together and create vivid images in my mind, who can put me into the scene I am reading. I feel like I am walking with them, visiting their realms.
This story is Sandman meets Divine Rivals meets Fragile Threads. It was the exact world I needed in my life.
I was so invested in Eira and Adrian. I hated Thaloré, then liked him. I became attached to all of the Sovereigns and I think that is so rare for any book, let alone a book that is less than 200 pages.
I need about 600 more pages in order to feel complete. I will read any book in this series. So please, make so many more.
“Love is not forbidden for its weakness. It is forbidden for its strength."
Lana J. Williams’ Threads of Fate Chronicles of the Sovereigns is a fresh take on the premise of free will and the impact we have on our surroundings.
In this romantic fantasy, the Loom weaved the threads of existence creating the ten Sovereigns: Life, Death, Mercy, Revenge, Pleasure, Pain, Fury, Peace, Joy and Sorrow. They are the Guardians bound by the Loom’s Law - never shape a mortal's will nor love a mortal, because fate is meant to be unchangeable.
Threads of Fate follows Eira, Sovereign of Peace, who notices a beautiful mortal, Adrian, who compulsively draws the images in his head, the threads of the Loom. Thinking himself insane, he is startled when Eira understands what he is drawing. Their unstoppable attraction to each other affects the force of Balance creating havoc in the world. Their love will test the Loom and its laws.
Wow, I did not want the book to end! Can't wait for the next installment so I can continue this fantastic series. Highly recommend!
Threads of Fate: Chronicles of the Sovereigns by Lana J. Williams was such a pleasant surprise! It’s a beautifully written slow-burn romance set in a world of gods and goddesses, and I was hooked from page one.
This book gave me Sandman vibes (not exactly the same, but definitely similar in tone and atmosphere). The FMC, Peace, is a goddess who has always followed the laws of the sovereigns—one of which forbids them from loving mortals. But when she meets a mortal man, everything she’s ever believed begins to unravel.
The mythology, world-building, and emotional depth made this a fast, immersive read. It’s cozy, romantic, and thought-provoking, with an ending that leaves you wanting so much more. I can’t wait to see what Lana has in store for us in the next book!
What an amazing book! I can honestly say I've never read anything like this before. Fantasy was never my favorite, but my goal this year was to get out of my comfort zone and give it another try. And I'm so glad that I did, because I've enjoyed so many! including this one. the description of this book, the story itself, are so well written, so developed. And I loved how the characters just really brought this to life. like you're in the story at their side seeing and feeling everything that takes place. the forbidden romance and all the turmoil really grabs you. I didn't mind at all that it was written in 3rd POV (I think I'm more used to it because being older, more writers back in the day wrote that way). but I truly enjoyed this book and am thankful that I was given the opportunity to read this as an ARC.
This is an interesting love story between a mortal and sovereign. This is a short story and it does end on a cliff hanger. This book introduces us to the sovereigns and the fates. We have Life, Death, Mercy, Revenge, Pleasure, Pain, Fury, Peace, Joy, and Sorrow. They are allowed to help guide mortals but never allowed to fall in love. But of course they do! They just can’t resist us broken mortals. But we have Peace who does in fact fall in love in this book and that doesn’t quite go according to her plan and that one ended on a cliff hanger. This is the first book in a series. This is only the beginning look out for the second book A Mourner’s song that introduces us to more sovereigns. If you like powerful beings knowing about each one and their personalities, intrigue, some mystery and fluid writing this is for you.
Wow, this book was absolutely wonderful! I was completely taken up in this romantasy. The forbidden romance between Eria and Adrian is just amazing, it was a little fast paced but everything was great. Watching the FMMC have to choice between her duty and her dreams had me reading this in 2 days. I just couldnt put this book down. It normally takes me a week to finish but this was just wow. The author is fantastic. I loved how each of the sovereigns and gods were brought to life, feeling both ancient and incredibly present. I was lucky enough to receive this as an ARC, and OH my can not wait for the second. The cliffhanger ending is to die for. This is absolutely a must have series. I hope you enjoy this as much as I have and I'm impatiently waiting for the next book
Arc reader review: “But I've seen enough of you to know that you will be successful in anything you do. There is fire within you. Don't ever let anyone extinguish that.” Author Lana: listen to your own words here! My first impression of you was magnificent and I will definitely be reading more of your books.
In the beginning the author states that she feels the gods are a reflection of our strengths, weaknesses and longing and I felt this throughout the whole book.
The writing style was great and the story line was even better. This books shows that no matter what the world is telling us we need to make our own path. It may disturbs balance along the way but if we fight for what we want we can make it happen.
“ Threads of Fate” by Lana j Williams was a very interesting yet short read about 10 sovereigns of the mortal world who represent different emotions or states of being… fury, sorrow, pleasure, pain, joy, mercy, life, death etc. Her writing was beautiful but was maybe a little too melancholy for me. However, I found her prose quite poetic.
The FMC Eira was the sovereign of Peace and the book was about her beautiful forbidden love story with Adrian, a mortal. The sovereigns were all siblings and I really enjoyed their relationship to each other and how they were betrayed in her writing.
All and all I think I wanted a little bit more from this book as far as the over all story so I know I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
So I have not read many books like this, so I am very excited to dive in and get lost into another world. 🙃 This is also a new author for me, so I can't wait to read the journey I am about to go on. By chapter 3, I was hooked. I am trying to find the right words to express my feelings about this book but I am having a hard time because there is just so much that I want to say but also not because I don't want to give anything away. I will say this i can feel Eira and Adrain pull to each other. I can see them in my head like she has painted a picture for me to look at. This story pulls you in and makes you want more. I can not wait for what happens next.
Threads of Fate: Chronicles of the Sovereigns by Lana J. Williams completely drew me in from the first page. I’ve only recently got into romantasy. This is my 3rd romantasy book I’ve read, and I can’t believe I’ve missed out on books like this. The story is so captivating. The writing was beautiful, and stayed that way throughout the entire book. Each character felt complex and real, with motivations and struggles that made me care deeply about their fates. I felt each emotion that I read.
If you enjoy epic fantasy with layered characters, thoughtful worldbuilding, and a touch of the mystical, this one’s a must read. I can’t wait to see where the series goes next!
I really liked the idea behind Threads of Fate: Chronicles of the Sovereign. The story has an intriguing setup and definitely feels like the beginning of a bigger fantasy world. That said, I did struggle a bit at the start — there wasn’t quite enough background before the story jumped in, so I found myself flipping back a few times to remember who characters were or what was going on. A little extra world-building or setup would’ve helped it flow more smoothly. Still, I enjoyed the concept and can tell this is setting up nicely for a series. I’ll be keeping an eye out for the next book to see how things develop!
Threads of Fate by Lana J. Williams absolutely swept me away from the very first chapter. The world-building is immersive, the pacing tight, and the character dynamics, especially the tension between the leads was electric in all the right ways. She layers mystery, emotion, and danger so seamlessly that you can’t help but keep turning pages.
And that ending? A master-level cliff-hanger. Just when everything feels like it’s finally coming together, she drops a twist that left me staring at the last page in disbelief. Now I’m fully invested and desperate for the next book. Can’t wait. Xo
This was a different book to what I am use to but it was definitely an interesting read. The tension between the main characters reeled me in. even more so was the struggle in which Eria faces when it comes to choosing between love, her duty, and forces that have come before her time. This story if short but fast pace and had me thinking about fate and how much it plays into our lives and that maybe our lives have already been mapped out by a greater force.
I gave this book three stars.the only reason it didn’t get five is simply just it wasn’t my typical style but I did enjoy it.
This is a slow burn Romantasy with a fast paced storyline. Lana’s writing style is so descriptive and cosy, I really enjoyed it. The book follows the story of our FMC Eira, the Sovereign (goddess) of Peace and our MMC Adrian a human (or is he?!?), this is a tale of the ultimate forbidden love and the fates who control the threads and the balance of life. It is the first in a series, the first book does not contain any spice. It was a really interesting concept and I’m definitely intrigued to see how the story unfolds in the next book.
The story follows Eira, the Sovereign of Peace, who becomes captivated by Adrian, a mortal artist driven to sketch haunting images—the very threads of the Loom. Convinced he’s going mad, Adrian is stunned when Eira understands what he’s seeing. As their forbidden connection grows, their love begins to unravel the Balance, endangering the world’s order and defying the sacred laws that govern them.
I adored this book from start to finish! It completely pulled me in, and I never wanted it to end. I can’t wait for the next book in this magical series—highly recommended!
I have read Threads of Fate: Chronicles of the Sovereigns by author Lana J. Williams and it's a wonderful story.
For me it began a bit slow, and I doubted a little bit. But I kept on reading and halfway through it began to keep me invested. it intrigued me and now I'm waiting for book 2.
The story is forbidden romance between a mortal (Adrian) and one of the Sovereigns, Eira (Peace). They get to know eachother en let their love bloom but it's against fate and they have to overcome the Balance and find a way to be with eachother.
I don’t even know where to begin. My mind is kind of blown and I really wish the book was LONGER!!!! (Which is the ONLY reason for the 4-star. lol) I need more!! I love the fluidity of the timeline, the way the Sovereigns interact with each other, and that ending? Don't get me started! Needless to say, I cannot WAIT for the next book and will probably have a stringboard going in my head until I get some more answers. lol
