Misfit Inn #4

Bring it on Home

Rate this book
They were best friends before they knew what love really meant. Now, they’re about to find out what it costs—and what it’s worth.

Maggie Reynolds has spent over a decade building a career that kept her too busy to think about the past—or the man she left behind. But when a health scare forces her home to Eden’s Ridge to recover, she’s confronted not just by her family, but by the one person who’s always seen beneath her armor: Porter Ingram.

Porter has loved Maggie since they were kids. Through every high, every heartbreak, and every secret she’s never trusted anyone else with, he’s been there. But after years of being just a friend, he’s done waiting. Maggie might not believe in forever, but Porter has always believed in her.

As Maggie reconnects with the town she ran from and the man she never truly left behind, old wounds resurface—and so do the feelings she buried long ago. But moving forward means finally facing the truth they’ve both been avoiding.

Sometimes, coming home is the bravest thing you can do.

Bring It On Home is the emotional, heart-tugging finale to the Misfit Inn series—a friends-to-lovers romance about healing old hurts, second chances, and finding where you truly belong.

You know how sometimes there’s that audiobook you’ve been waiting on and you’re willing to rearrange your entire TBL shelf to listen to it? This is one of them for me.

This is the finale of the Misfit Inn series and Kait Nolan writes in such a wholly satisfying way that I can’t help but get a little teary eyed. This is small town, second chance, shunned-girl-made-good perfection. Despite a mashup of well loved tropes there was still a lot of unique to this story due to the distinctive world that Nolan created.

The somewhat mysterious Maggie is driven home by sheer exhaustion as the anniversary of her baby’s death collides with Pru’s due date. Her former foster brother and best friend, Porter – who has always loved Maggie from afar, is there to help her during this emotionally trying time. There is love, laughter, and heartache as this couple find their way together and the circumstances around Maggie’s pregnancy come to light.

Nolan also gives the Reynolds sisters a lovely epilogue where we get a peek into all their HEAs.

P.S. Kait Nolan, if you’re reading this – is there any chance Mia will get a story?

Narration by Amy McFadden - Each Misfit Inn character has their own unique voice, accent, and “mannerisms”. McFadden keeps these consistent throughout the whole series. I could listen to all the books back-to-back and not tell there were any gaps in production. Totally binge-worthy.

ARC for honest review with no compensation received from BookSprout

Bring It On Home is book 4 in the Misfit Inn series by Kait Nolan. Now it’s Maggie and Porter’s turn. We know some of the history between these two from the prior books but WOW totally didn’t realize the depth of their history and the secrets they carry.

When Maggie collapses from exhaustion burning the candle at both ends, Porter flies to California to bring her home to recuperate so her sisters don’t worry. While she has never been idle it will be a challenge keeping her down. When talks of getting the Eden’s Artisan Guild off the ground she knows she can help as this is what she does in California...but her past is coming back to haunt her with all the town talk, secrets she thinks are buried, and a man who wants to be more than just her friend...

This story gives you all the feels, tears, laughter, secrets, family, friends who understand and hopes for a love everlasting...can Maggie and Porter find their HEA??

This book is so good! I have to say that I had so many emotions reading this book. I was upset at times and wanted to strangle some people. There were times my heart broke over circumstances that should never have happened. Many times my heart went out to people because they were afraid to love or be rejected. I was happy to see love that should have happened sooner was getting a chance. I loved the ending which touched my heart and brought happy tears to my eyes. If you have been reading all the books in this series, then you must read this book. It was great catching up with the sisters and their significant others from past books. I was surprised by some secrets that came out. I loved Porter’s personality and how patient and loving he is. I felt privileged to see Maggie grow emotionally and come out of her shell. I can’t encourage you enough to read this book. I was given a copy of this book and voluntarily wrote this review.

Audio-Amy McFadden. I am so sad this was the last book in The Misfit Inn series. Maggie and Porters story did not disappoint, so much wrapped in this book. If you love small town romance then this is a series you should give a try.

Ok

I must be developing a romance immunity because I was irritated by Porter's devotion and blind faith in Maggie. I also found the sub-plot distracting and very predictable

Bring it on Home is the fourth book in Kait Nolan's wonderful "Misfit Inn" series. Each book has focused on a different foster sister as they struggle to carve out satisfying lives for themselves and find love. In Bring it on Home, we finally get Maggie's story. Maggie has been a force to be reckoned with in each of the previous books. She's been very strong and very forceful, even while being mostly out of state in California. Maggie is a workaholic on the verge of collapse. She's been running from her issues for many years, and her body is finally screaming at her to STOP and deal with them. Her boss, fortunately, has the good sense to read the signs and forces Maggie to take an extended leave and go home to Tennessee to visit her sisters and rest. This is my favorite book of the series because all the sisters (and Ari!) are in the book a lot. We get caught up with everyone and get to see what is happening in their next chapter as we get to know Maggie deeper and watch her fight her own demons. It's also a friends to lovers story, which is one of my favorite romance tropes. I loved watching Maggie assert herself and figure out what she wants and how to get it and I loved seeing Porter finally being open and honest about his feelings. There are some great sexy scenes, but my favorites were the family scenes. I loved seeing everyone together, and the book brought tears to my eyes more than once. Mostly happy tears, though. This book is a wonderful addition to the series, and while technically, this is the end, since each sister has had her story, there are a few doors left open for future stories in this "world". I am hoping that Ms. Nolan writes those stories and more, and I suspect I will always want to know more about this family and their friends. If you haven't read the rest of the series, you can jump in with this one and get along just fine, but the experience is MUCH richer if you have read the first three. I highly recommend this series and especially this book.

Kait Nolan, ‘Bring it on Home’, a Misfit Inn novel.

As an ARC reader I received a free copy and promised an honest review. Here it is. English isn’t my first language. Sorry for errors.

Rating: 4 stars (of 5).

In general: Romantic second chance in small town.

Main characters:
- Maggie Reynolds.
She was born and raised as a foster child at the Misfit Inn in Eden’s Ridge in the Deep South of the US. Got pregnant when she was 17 years old. The father was the son of a very wealthy family with much economic influence in the region. He refused the parenthood and his family bought Maggie’s silence. But Maggie had a miscarriage, left her home town and studied in California where she got an important position in a successful investment company.

- Porter Ingram.
Also born and raised in Eden’s Ridge. Had a secret crush on Maggie already before her pregnancy; helped her during the pregnancy (and the accompanying small town gossip), but lost sight of Maggie after the miscarriage and her departure to the West Coast. He build his own contracting company in Eden’s Ridge and remained in contact with Maggie at a distance.

At the start of the book Maggie has a breakdown during a presentation: she worked too long too hard and forgot to care for her health. Her boss (and good girlfriend), who admires Maggie for her talent and dedication, forces her into a sabbatical period before she becomes seriously ill. During the sabbatical Maggie stays in Eden’s Ridge to help a sister who expects her first child.
The author, Kait Nolan, describes how it’s difficult for Maggie to de-stress, to ignore the old town gossip and to accept help from Porter and her family at the Misfit Inn. In addition there are complications with Porter’s firm and the wealthy family of Maggie’s old seducer (and parenthood refuser).
All in all the author creates an easy to read story with many wonderful characters and a romantic (although not very original) second-chance love in an interesting small town (again described with a lot of feeling) in the Deep South.

When Maggie faints during a business meeting and lands up in ER because of over exhaustion, he boss puts her on mandatory 3 months leave of absence. And she calls Porter as reinforcement.
Porter has been in love with Maggie since 12 years but never said anything about his feelings. And the minute he hears she is in the hospital, he drops everything to be with her.
There is a reason why Maggie has never been home for more than a flying visit and now she has to spend over 3 months there. Having Porter makes things easier but then he expresses his feelings.
I enjoyed reading this book, it was so good. We finally get Maggie and Porters book and it made me feel a myriad of emotions, from happiness to sad tears. Porter as a strong supporter of Maggie was amazing, absolutely loved him. I loved catching up with the other sisters and their families. Though it seems like this is the end of the Reynolds sisters stories, I hope we get more Misfit Inn series and get to visit them again.

The bond between Porter and Maggie has survived sadness, separation, gossip and secrets. This latest installment of the Misfit Inn series involves all of these things but more than that, it’s about love. Love between old friends, and, hopefully, new lovers. Between sisters, mothers and daughters, and significant others.
I read this book in one sitting, anxious to see what happens, but invariably both sad and happy as I reached the end. As a fan of the series, as well as the romance genre in general, the epilogue hit the perfect note. And maybe gave us a look into the future?
Great characters, great dialogue, great family dynamics...Kait Nolan has another winner in Bring It On Home!

I typically LOVE KAIT Nolan's books and can not put it down, but this one just didn't do it for me. It wasn't that the story was boring or the characters weren't funny or great, but I just didn't enjoy it nearly as much as the ones I've read in the past.

Beautiful series

Some time back, I discovered Kait Nolan.
I started with some of her freebies, & really enjoyed her stories; both main & peripheral characters, plot lines, dialog, issues. And the folks at the Misfit Inn HAVE dealt with issues. You feel for their challenges & celebrate their triumphs. You fall in love right along with them. I’ve laughed and cried with them; my heart has been engaged, not just my imagination.
I read a lot. Sometimes I love both H & h; but often have to overcome a sense of ‘these 2 just don’t fit. What do they see in each other?’ In this series, I’ve enjoyed them all. I love that we keep seeing bits of other characters, so their stories continue. I love the story arc of bringing together this whole loving, messy group, with each sister adding to their mom’s story to repurpose a legacy that nurtures the family. I’d cherish each & every sister & SO as a neighbor or friend.
I felt the same about the whole Wishful series, too.
In these crazy & unsettled times, it’s lovely to have a book haven to cuddle up in.
I think I’ll start the next spin off series.
If you’re already a Kait Nolan reader, you’ll understand. If you’re not, come join us. Sweet tea optional.

Love, healing and coming home

Phew. The feels in this second chance, friends to lovers romance were big for me. There is grief, regret, pain, and fear but all the dark emotions are beautifully balanced with the brighter ones - healing, hope, forgiveness, and love. Maggie is a successful corporate attorney and businesswoman who, after job affects her health, is forced to take a several month long mandatory rest. She returns to spend time with her family in small town Eden’s Ridge. Porter owns his own construction company in Eden’s Ridge and has been in love with Maggie for 15 years. Her painful past coupled with her teenage trauma and shame means that he settled for just great friendship with her. Now that Maggie is in town for an extended period and they begin spending more time together, the attraction, chemistry and feelings deepen but there is baggage unpacking, inner child healing, and life course correction that needs to be done to get to their HEA. This heartwarming and healing romance was well written and included engaging dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and a captivating storyline. I am sad to see the end of the series but happy to dive into more small town Eden’s Ridge based series.

Maggie and Porter….each hiding secrets, but loved each other from there high school years. After she miscarries, she takes off for school and he joins the military. Years pass. She moves to California after law school and they only see each other when she comes back to visit. 12 years later, her boss forces her to take a sabbatical, after she faints during a presentation at work. Maggie return home, just in time for the birth of Faith, Pru and Flynn’s daughter, on the anniversary of her miscarrying Jessica, her baby girl. Porter came to California when her boss called that she had collapsed and was in the hospital. He has stayed with her through the trip back and the birth, know how difficult it is. Slowly they renew their relationship. Life looks good for them, until an evil from their past attempts to block their project. All hell breaks loose and they have an argument. Will this be their end? Or will they get their HEA? Maggie had been the smart, independent sister, who became the lawyer and handled the family business after their mother died. She just did not realize how much she missed them and home.

A lovely romantic read

Maggie has been pushing herself too hard so when she collapses her boss makes her take some time off. She did not expect Porter to come & fetch her. Porter is happy to have Maggie back home but things are complicated. He has always loved her and he would do anything for her. Maggie never had a clue about his feelings and she just thought that he was being a good friend. Can they really make this work? The past is still haunting Maggie and it comes back to take everything from her. Will she allow it to carry on hanging over her? Do they get their chance at happiness?
A great read. Love the girls they always have each others backs. Maggie is a strong woman that has been haunted by the past. I am happy that she finally found what was missing in her life. Porter is a giving man who never gave up on the woman that he loved.

basic

This seemed like it would be a decent story to read, judging by the reviews I read. But I could not stand the constant profanity used as an exclamation and a curse . Plus i grew up in a small town of about 2 thousand people in the whole district. Girls got pregnant, they were accepted and loved. It is beyond reason to believe this main characters adult notion that she was branded as being the girl who got pregnant in high school for life. Such a stupid notion, for a story to be based on. I’m so glad I didn’t finish this unrealistic drivel. I will be deleting the other seven books I have from this authour in my reader.

This was a nice ending to the series, and the epilogue was beautiful. I'm wondering if Kait Nolan is giving herself the option of writing about the next generation of these four sisters somewhere down the road.

Once again, the characters were well-developed and relatable. The relationship between Maggie and Porter was well-done. As with the others in the series, they hit one hitch that jeopardized their relationship, but the angst was short-lived and, as with the other sisters' stories, a friend or relative helps each of them see the disagreement from another perspective.

All in all, a beautiful story.

Book four in the Misfit Inn series is as good as the first three. It may even be my favorite of the series! Maggie and Porter’s story is swoony, heartfelt, emotional, and downright adorable. There is a little more drama in this one. That drama is twelve years old. Eventually, everything comes to light in a spectacular way. Kait Nolan knows how to weave a story with dynamic families, heart, humor, and wonderful characters. You can’t go wrong with one of her stories!

Note: In Bring It On Home, you are introduced to Mia. Her story is fully told in the Bad Boy Bakers series. You will want to read that series!

#4 in the Misfit Inn series (I've read the others separately at other times); this is Maggie's story. Maggie left home right after school, leaving behind the small-town gossips and a past that never seems to stay behind. When she's sent home on a forced leave of absence from work, it's her foster brother and best friend, Porter who comes to the rescue. There's a lot of heart in this one, and some revisited teenage trauma; standalone, but you might find the other characters are more interesting if you've read the sister's stories too (Flynn is still my favorite). HEA.

I am soooo glad Maggie got her own back! It isn't only small towns (fictional or not) with long memories and nosy, can't-mind-their-own-business people, but they certainly are harder to ignore in one! I love most everything about small towns except for that. I'm not sure I could be as forgiving, or able to let go of the resentment, the way Maggie did. For all that people quote the Bible, they always seem to forget the Judge not, lest ye be judged part. Thank you, Kait Nolan, for Maggie's and Porter's vindications and their wonderful and well-earned HEA!

By far my favorite in this series! After a miscarriage as a teenager, Maggie threw herself into school and then a career but kept her heart walled off.
Porter has been her friend since well before she found herself in trouble. He stood by her during the hardest time of her life and ever since. He has loved her forever, but she hasn't felt the same about him.
After secrets spill out, will she be able to let herself love him back? Oh my! This book was soooo good :-)

I loved this book. Loved that Porter has always loved Maggie. Surprised that she’s the only one who didn’t know, could it be she’s always loved him too? He’s been her best friend and the one who’s always there for her. Did have some tears when he thinks she’s never going to truly trust him. Had some happy tears in their happy ever after. I got this story in her boxed set with two other stories. I highly recommend this book.

Lovely..

Interesting characters. In the beginning, Maggie was hard to like. She was prickly and very much into " l can take care of myself and I don't need ANY help" attitude. As the story unfolds, her history is revealed and an understanding of what makes her this way. Porter is absolutely the best friend to have. But she can only take him for granted for so long until he loses hope

She, Maggie Reynolds, was making out like a teenager with Porter Ingram. And it was glorious.

I love a good second chance romance and this one was beautiful. Maggie left the Misfit Inn for a bigger and better life but the rumours and reasons she left still haunt her. When she is forced to take leave from work, coming home means coming back to Porter and the man she left behind. I really loved this story and I can't wait to read more in this "world".

Yay! I love the Misfit in series so much! Maggie and Porter’s story was a long time coming! Porter has been in love with Maggie for years unbeknownst to her. Maggie has been punishing herself for years over her miscarriage years ago and the circumstances behind the baby’s father. Maggie deserved her HEA as well as Porter. They both have come from broken families. They were perfect for each other. Loved seeing the new additions to the families. Absolutely loved it!

A great end to the series. This was a lovely easy series of books to read. I really loved Porter and Maggies story. It was clear early on they were a perfect couple for each other. Porter was so loyal to Maggie and i really loved their strength to face their demons and find the happiness they deserved. I will read more by this author in the future.
