Haze Island: A Could-(almost)-Happen Mystery

Rate this book
Karly never wanted to leave Missouri. But when her parents drag her to Malaysia to finish high school, homesickness is the least of her problems.

At first, it's just the weather—a strange, persistent haze that blankets everything in an eerie glow. Then people start acting... different. And when her parents leave for what should be a quick business trip, Karly finds herself alone.

Her desperate attempts to contact the outside world fail, and when she stumbles onto the truth behind the haze, trust becomes a luxury she can’t afford.

Racing against time with unlikely allies, Karly must uncover a conspiracy that goes deeper than she ever imagined. Can she expose the truth before it's too late? Will she ever see her parents—or Missouri—again?

And most will she survive long enough to find out?

A could-(almost)-happen mystery where home has never felt so far away.

This was a really fun read! I visited Malaysia once several years ago so I really enjoyed reading about some of the locations I’ve been to. You immediately jump into the fast paced mystery of the haze and you follow Karly’s journey from a bit of a selfish teenager to courageous and empathetic. I love all the Malaysian culture, food, and people. I highly recommend for an easy and fun read that was surprisingly impactful.

I enjoyed this short story!
It is interesting to learn about the fields being burnt in Malaysia and who doesn’t love to see a young girl grow more into herself! Plus, the author is pretty cool 🤪

Well I can’t really rate or review this objectively since I wrote it! But I did want to record it as a book I read this month (several times!)
