The Tuatha de Danann, the people of the Goddess Danu, were one of the greatest ancient tribes of Ireland. It is recorded that they ruled Ireland from 1896 B.C. to 1700B.C.
They arrived on the Connaught coastline during a great mist. It is said that they burned their boats to ensure that they settle in their new land.
The rulers of Ireland at the time were the Fir Bolg, led by Eochid.
The Tuatha de Danann won the battle with the Fir Bolg and, out of respect for the manner in which they had fought, they allowed the Fir Bolg to remain in Connaught while they the victors ruled the rest of Ireland.
The Tuatha de Danann were a civilised and cultured people. The skills and traditions they introduced were held in high regard by the peoples they had conquered. They had four great treasures that demonstrated their skills. The first was the ‘Stone of Fal’ which would scream when a true King of Ireland stood beside it. The second was the ‘Magic Sword of Nuada.’ The third was the ‘sling shot of the Sun God Lugh.’ The final treasure was the ‘Cauldron of Dagda’ from which an endless supply of food issued.

A tale for Ireland. Written in verse, the Novelette "Danu" transports you into the an ancient world, its rythm inviting one to look into the journey of Celtic Goddess Danu and her unenviable challenge. Worth the read.
