Total War is an idea created by Carl Van Clausewitz. It is the concept that all available resources and tactics should be brought to bear to win a war and destroy the enemy. The US used to fight using this style of warfare up until the end of World War II. The US has fought every war since then in a limited capacity, which has also limited its capacity for victory.
