What a voyage this is turning out to be.

Whilst a little darker now that the effects are being felt (and unflinchingly described) around the world I was still enthralled by this all too possible disaster scenario. Book one mentions that many people are intrigued by apocalyptic, end of the world stories and I would say that my enjoyment of this book and eagerness for the third part confirms this for me.

Now that we've had much of the character development and connected with our characters it is time to look on in horror at what is happening around the world. Being a Brit who lives in Los Angeles I've been through one major earthquake and so have, from time to time, thought about what could happen here. Well, Aftershock definitely prompted more thinking on the matter.

Being a "devout" atheist I could have done without the numerous references to deities but that is just a personal distaste. Other than that, the journey took me to all sorts of emotional places just as a good book ought to.

Definitely recommended.

Aftershock continues the misadventures of the cruise ship Sedulity, and indeed the whole world, in the hours immediately after the impact of an asteroid into the southern Pacific. The story manages to describe both the micro-scale human elements, mostly from the point of view of the passengers and crew members of the Sedulity and the macro-scale, civilization shattering events on a global scale.

Especially the latter part sets this series apart from the run-of-the-mill post-apocalyptic stories as it is well-researched and believably constructed. I am very much looking forward to the next installment, where acertain tool of a certain passenger from Texas might be put to interesting use.

Incidentally, this is the first book I finished in 2015, starting my reading pledge on a very good foot.

The travails of the Sedulity continue as do the catastrophes around the Pacific rim and the world at large. The science continues to be persuasive and plausible. The biggest criticism I have of this episode has to do with the characters. In any book I am always looking to understand the characters, their motivations and actions. David Forsyth, the author, hasn't added additional much depth to the characters and I'd have liked to see the introduction of other characters to broaden the action on board. More focus on the shipboard community and a little less on the rolling global catastrophes. I want to feel like I'm on the ship interacting with all the folks there. He does address the issue of mutiny toward the end but the internal tensions between crew and passengers would probably have manifested itself more quickly and broadly.

Man, Wife and Daughter are on Pacific Cruise when meteor hits Pacific Ocean. Details of aftermath are astounding but not much character development.

Kevin Summers has joined the captain and the rest of the survivors on the ship to watch in horror via satellite TV the devastation advancing throughout the Pacific Rim. They have located a geologist on board who is helping Kevin advise the captain on their next moves. There is nothing they can do but watch as the world as they knew it succumbs to the tsunamis and earthquakes striking it well.

Forsyth’s second novel in the Sedulity Series, Aftershock continues the tale of a cruise ship at the site of a disaster in the Pacific due to an asteroid strike. What's left of the crew and passengers are now trying to clean up and regroup. Not all the ship is up and running, and a lot of the outside staterooms have been destroyed. Tensions are high as passengers are scared not knowing what the future will bring.

There was one continuity error from book one to book two. Kevin's daughter was five years old in book one and she's three years old in book two. Otherwise, it's well written, well-paced, and overall, a very good story. It has been six years since this book was written, and the third in the series has not yet appeared.

Four out of five stars.

This continues the story of the aftermath of a meteor hit. Most of the book described the horrendous destructive of Pacific Rim areas to the point of exhaustion. Though these narrative were written in a very descriptive and exciting to read way, the development of the characters suffered. Because of that lack of character development this was a 3.5, rounded up because I really like the series. I'm not rsure if I think a cruise liner would have been able to get so close to such a massive steam column/churn at the impact site. I hope we never have an actual occurrence of a similar nature to find out.

Book two

Mistakes: I didn't find any, but be warned that this is a short book that ends at 83%. It does however contain a zombie novella after the main story.

Plot: We learn of the aftermath of the asteroid strike. The ship deals with the wounded and damage to the ship as well as a mutiny.

Characters: Great characters, unfortunately we are left with a big of a cliffhanger as one of the two best characters are killed and we are left wondering who it is.

Please please finish the story!

Sedulity has been floating around the Pacific for seven years. Please at least give us a short story and end their plight. Although their plight had just got a whole lot worse.

Really enjoyed this book.

Interesting insights into the condition the planet would be in should this happen in reality. Can't wait to read the next book.

Liked the book. A good read with lots of factual stuff and a good plot. Only problem is, no book 3 on Amazon Kindle store.

The second book in the Sedulity Saga continues with the epic story of the cruise ship Sedulity as she recovers from the impact of an asteroid hitting the Pacific Ocean a mere one-hundred miles from her position. While the captain tries to make the best of a rag-tag band of crew and passengers as they deal not only with their injuries and loss of loved ones, the rest of the world is bracing for the aftermath of the impact. Giant tsunamis and earthquakes deal death-hands to countries, towns, and ports along the Pacific Rim. What meteorologists are loath to divulge to the general public is that Earth is now on the brink of another ice-age, like the one that caused dinosaurs to become extinct. By alerting the general public of all nations what to expect they fear mass panic as people try to flee their homes in search of a warmer climate. But is there such a place that won't feel the ravages on the oncoming ice age?

This book reveals the aftermath of the all too real scenario of a possible asteroid impact on our Earth. Additionally it sets up a bleak future for mankind with the impending ice age if scientific calculations are to be believed. The epic destruction of not only coastal towns but the wiping of entire countries off the map makes for a sobering read. However, I feel that there is a lot more to come as our intrepid band of cruise ship passengers makes for the only known port on the Pacific - Darwin, Australia - in a race against time as large underwater tsunamis are headed in the same direction.

I found Sedulity 2: Aftershock to be as seat gripping as the first book in the series. While there is a lot of meteorological terminology and scientific references, these are set forth to shore up the fact of the impending ice age and what it can do to mankind. I did not find it boring in the least and was happy to see some of the characters I bonded with in Book 1 make a return. While this book is somewhat shorter than its predecessor, it does connect the dots for the reader. We begin to understand the reasons why those in command make the decisions they do and how those decisions can affect the future of Earth.

I highly recommend this book and am looking forward to the next in the series.

Still a great read, though maybe not on a cruise

If you live by a coast you might want to read this someplace inland. Spoiler alert: unlike many disaster books, all the good guys don't make it. This is the second of what is at least a 3 book series so if cliffhangers bother you this will make you disconnect the charger on your Kindle. Some of the weather data descriptions run on a bit, but I just sped through them. When the series is done I might even buy a hard copy. I am so not a zombie fan but short story part of another series was entertaining too.

Great sequel

Book two has been equally as good as book one.it continues the saga for the next twelve or so hours of the meteor strike.I did realize I have had to suspend some of my belief but I still enjoyed it immensely.I actually did not give it a5 star because I expected the whole story would fill the book when I reality, at 88 percent on my kindle, it ended and the rest was an excerpt for his zombie series.and I HATE that shoo I removed a star.sure hope book 3 comes out soon!

Two down, one to go...

...And I'm still loving it. Mr. Forsyth really knows how to spin a tale. I'm not the kind of person that's prone to emotional responses provoked by books but I have to say that as I read the specifics about the west coast, I was stuck by the thought that I should be saying the Mourners Kadish (it's a prayer for the dead). This series is already one of my favorites and I can't wait for the next installment. Bravo David forsyth!!!

Sedulity 2: Aftershock

Aftershock is the second book in the Sedulity Saga written by author David Forsyth. It's an excellent post apocalyptic story that paints a frightening picture of world wide devastation after an asteroid crashes into the Pacific Ocean. Anxiously awaiting book three.

Aftershock

This is a great read. I gave it a 4 because there was just a little too much description of world events rather than action between the characters on the ship. Still, I do highly recommend this book.

Breathtaking

This book is second in a series. It was just as thrilling as the first book. It seemed as if i was holding my breath while sitting on the edge of my seat. Sedulity 2 Aftershock was a real page turner. I am waiting impatiently for Sedulity 3.

Lacking much of the impact of the first book (excuse the pun) there's little progression to the story here, and it feels like we're in something of a holding pattern. The internals of the crew were interesting though, and I'm keen to see where the story ends.

Spellbinding

The tsunamis caused by the impact are the stars of this book. The adventures continue for those aboard Sedulity. I will definitely be reading the third book in this series.

Way to much description section....and way too many facts(?)! Only a quarter of the book was enjoyable....and very much so. I loved the characters...just not enough of them in the book.

More of the same - see my review of Sedulity Book 1. Fascinated by the disaster scenario and how it will play out scientifically, way more than an interest in any of these characters.
