A contemporary pick-a-path series about life, first crushes and friendship, that lets the reader choose how the story goes! Ally has always let her bestie, Cat, take charge. Now they’re in high school, and it seems Cat will continue to get her way. Until … 1. Ally's invited to join an advanced Latin class. She loves Latin – and she likes James, her smart and gorgeous new classmate, too. But will Ally be able to keep up with the older kids? And how will Cat react to Ally doing her own thing? 2. Cat is determined both she and Ally will audition for the school musical. But Ally’s not a good singer, and being involved would mean spending time with her old crush, Tony – and she hasn't forgiven him for what happened last year. Can Ally face the music?Follow your heart right to the end, or go back and choose all over again.
A too-easy read. Kinda boring, but good! My ending was the one where she chose not to tell Cat about Tony. I hope Cat dies. 👀 lol sorry that’s harsh. 11+
The first line of this book, "Ally is into hunks," is the exact same first line of the Judy Blume, "Just as Long as We're Together" according to my daughter. FYI, and fun fact!
For me, this was really more of a palate cleanser book. I saw that it was a 'Choose Your Own adventure' book, and I picked it up at the library, because I haven't read one in a while. It was actually really funny, and really enjoyable the way that I chose to read it. It did feel like it was targeted for a younger audience than me even though the two main characters were 14 (like me). Anyway, very enjoyable and funny!
1.5 Stars. This book is awful, the characters are very archetypal and their interactions are quite melodramatic (though what can you expect from a book titled 'Make-Up or Break-Up?'). I've honestly read better writing on Wattpad - the dialogue is really cliche, the writing is basic. Character motivations are mainly 'I NEED A BOYFRIEND.' Cat (the worst fucking character), Abby's 'best friend' is a petty, toxic bitch who can't get it through her thick skull that people have to do things that aren't a part of her selfish agenda. She gets extremely passive-aggressive when Abby takes up a good opportunity instead of following her around because they're 'besties.' Every dispute she has with Abby can be solved with some simple communication. Abby, the main character can only be described as the typical, bland protagonist of an overly-pretentious romcom. Her quirky character traits consist of being engrossed with a Chris Hemsworth poster and chronic blushing. I don't even care enough about the love interests, because they ONLY exist for the purpose of being love interests. Replace them with cardboard cut-outs and the story still works. The only saving grace with this book is that though it is juvenile, basic and absolutely forgettable it is still way more interesting than 'A Hot-Cold Summer' (which comes from the same series,) hence the extra 0.5 in the rating. I don't care if this book was written for young children. Children's books can be decent. If I could go back to my year-4 book fair, I would ask for a refund. :)
So immediate it by this one. A student was reading it and lent it to me bc I read the back and loved the concept. However. The writing fell slat. The sentences are short, the characters talk/act so juvenile and petty, & the love interests and friendships seem based on nothing YA readers deserve more than this. & a choose your own adventure written well would’ve been so great. Bummed and not recommending to my students. Not sure if the other ones by other authors are better or not, & I can’t say I care to find out bc I imagine they’re similar. FYI clean in terms of language and no real sexual situations
This book was okay. The main character, Ally, is trying to decide if she is going to follow her best friend since 5th grade into the musical or if she will go into the advanced Latin class. This is a choose your own adventure book. I read every single one of the different paths you can read. It was really like reading a bunch of short stories. A few of the stories ended nicely, but a few of the others I really wanted more story to it. I really liked Tony, but I loved Ally with James more.
This was the first book I have read that was a pick a path book. Pretty neat how you can choose the path for the book and then go back and read the path you didnt choose. It kept it really interesting. Some of the choices were how friendships go or don't go and how it may be love or may be heartbreak. I originally bought this for my daughter but it was still an enjoyable book for a young adult as well. Check it out!
Got this book only because it was a Choose Your Own Adventure novel and I hadn't seen one of those in years! It was a quick read, no substance. I didn't like that the main character was only 14 and trying to have a boyfriend. I didn't like the best friend at all (NOT a healthy friendship). I don't regret reading it but I'll probably never reread it and unlike what I thought when I first got it, I probably won't read the rest of the series either.
I love this book so much! I read it in elementary and middle school, but it'd been years since I last read it. So when I read it, it was full of nostalgia. It's just as good as I remember it! The friend and crush relationships are adorable, and the choices are so fun! I only wish it were longer.
I liked reading the book. I also liked the drama in the first part of the book. The cover is a bright red and blue. Which really grabbed my attention when I saw the book. The main character Ally has this pretty weird abstention into hunks, like Chris Hemsworth. Which I think is pretty weird.
I only read this because I thought it would be a quick and easy read. I think the characters are annoying and the decisions they make have no real impact on anything. I don’t like how most of the endings ended as they seemed very abrupt. Cat was a terrible best friend to Ally and Ally should’ve stopped being friends with her in every ending. I understand that they are 14/15 years old but the writing was juvenile and boring.
I've read all the possibilities. At first i thought the one i choose accordingly is the perfect ending. But after i finished the whole book i just change my mind. I also very much liked the other one /two possibilities. And really didn’t like the possibilities where Ally was being a little too naive.
This book is not something so great. But it shows that how our little actions or decisions affect our life more than we can imagine.
I keep reading these Choose Your Own Ever After books because the descriptions look interesting. I have yet to read one I like, and yet I keep trying. Content is clean at least.
