Using his detective skills, Batman begins trailing the madman who has been terrorizing Gotham City. It's a trail that leads to Wayne Manor--where Alfred's life hangs in the balance!

Bruce is so dense here, it's so cringy but I just LOVE it at the same time. I love those nostalgic superhero comic vibes where the main hero is not the smartest tool in the toolbox. It has such a serious vibe throughout, yet I'm giggling over here when Bruce reacts to certain things.
Some great detective work right here and some great art the details on the old man's face are priceless i loved it. and we finally learn who the killer is and he is waiting for brucy at home does that mean he won't use the mask and cape next issue? guess i gotta wait and see <3 oh and what about the shamanic stuff it actually worked batman wore the mask told the story and the girl was healed loved that bit and loved the bit with the old shaman he is a very good character too bad we probably won't see him again after this story line is over.
This issue's art seems especially good and, while I'm side-eyeing the following a bit for cultural appropriation, I do ultimately like the use of storytelling as therapeutic.
I don't love the revelation here, though. It's fine but anticlimactic.
Bruce saves both the old man and the young woman (both of whom have not been given names).
The shaman can keep himself warm but insists Bruce heal the girl using the story he was told. He calls it absurd and yet it works!
Later the girl tells Bruce her grandfather healed another man after Bruce, the killer who murdered Doggett!
Bruce figures out what motivated Woodley into killing Spurlock and his assistant. The woman tells him that the killer’s task is not yet finished.
Before leaving Alaska, Bruce promises he will return the mask to the shaman.
We see some detective work! That’s always my favourite (and there’s never enough of it). Not only that, we see Bats working in disguise! (He also makes a joke about anti-bat spray!)
Meanwhile, poor Alfred is being held hostage by the killer! He’s preparing to welcome Bruce home… with a knife in his throat!
Part 4...Secrets revealed, another disguise, more daft security guards and another cliffhanger ending.
Like Year One, I'm feeling this story is getting slightly weaker as it progresses. I'm still enjoying it but things are a little hokey. The cultural appropriation is cause for side-eye.
Still, the use of masks/mysticism etc to tie in with the creating of the Batman is enjoyable and the artwork is gorgeous.
