For Danielle Jones, vengeance is a loaded gun in her relentless quest to find her place in the world.
Haunted by the truth of her mother’s death and the chaos inside her mind, Danielle spirals into a world where grief, rage, and delusion collide. Her search for answers becomes a dangerous game of survival, both against the people around her and the war within.
Triggered is a raw, emotional thriller about trauma, truth, and what it takes to reclaim your life when you feel like you’re losing your mind.
I loved this book. I love books with multiple POVs - something about knowing what everyone’s thinking excites me.The separate personalities def was a great twist because even when I realized it I was like “wait WHAT” … I wish we got more POVs, the Harlot would’ve been great along with John. Can we get another book about the Harlot ? lol

Monichia’s Triggered is a psychologically layered urban drama that explores the long-term impact of trauma in a way that is both unsettling and thought-provoking.
At the center of the story is Danielle, a woman haunted by the truth surrounding her mother’s death. What begins as grief slowly unravels into something far more complex — rage, fractured identity, and a calculated pursuit of revenge. Danielle doesn’t simply spiral; she navigates a world shaped by ruthless gangsters, manipulation, and inner turmoil while battling four distinct personalities living within her.
What made this novel especially compelling was the gradual realization that Danielle was operating with multiple personalities. It wasn’t immediately obvious, and that subtle unfolding made the psychological depth hit harder. Danielle’s awareness of her personalities adds another layer of intensity — even when it appears she is losing control, there is an unsettling sense that she understands exactly what she’s doing. Her decision to resume her medication after achieving revenge is particularly telling and adds nuance to her character arc.
The multiple POVs and cross-timeline storytelling strengthened the narrative, allowing readers to see how trauma ripples outward and affects everyone involved. I did find myself wishing for a Harlot POV to further deepen the emotional and psychological scope of the story.
Triggered is dark, gritty, and unapologetic in its portrayal of mental fragmentation and revenge. It’s a story about what happens when unresolved trauma is left to fester — and how survival sometimes looks dangerously close to destruction.
My rating is a 3.75. Monichia is a great storyteller! This is a page-turner that I read in two days (it would've been sooner, but I had pre-scheduled plans).
The prologue sets the crazy and frantin tone for this novel! It keeps your heart beating and constantly guessing what will happen next. Mental health, trauma, and violence are central themes to this story, so please heed the trigger warnings ⚠️ The author describes this story as unhinged and it is!!!!
This book is told in four parts from four different points of view. I commend the author for this ambitious feat. My favorite part is that of Danielle who is considered the FMC. There was a point in the novel when I had a major revelation before it was made clear by the author. This was handled brilliantly!
Anyone who reads my reviews knows that I am stingy with my ratings. With that said, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I was left with a few questions. Also, the content was rough for me at times; I am not a big thriller reader.
This is Monichia's debut, and I strongly support indie authors. I definitely recommend this book.
After reading the synopsis of this story, I jumped at the chance to read it. Monichia puts a spin on the longevity of how trauma impacts one individual. Danielle having 4 separate personalities was intense. And it took me a minute to realize she had separate personalities. Danielle was well aware of each of her personalities and though at times it seemed like she wasn’t in control she was and made the decision to continue her meds once she got her revenge. Though her vengeance was started on the basis of a lie…in the end it was the truth. I would definitely pick up another book by Monichia!

This story has the perfect title. The characters were ruthless and unforgiving. There were many moving pieces, but the author did a good job of wrapping them up. If you enjoy your thrillers with violence and spice, this is the one for you.
This was my first urban dark thriller, and I absolutely loved it! It’s one of those books where you really need to pay attention because everything is interconnected. Plus, there are a lot of POV’s, but the author’s way of weaving them all together is just beautiful.
