William Joyce does a lot of stuff—films, apps, Olympic curling—but children’s books are his true bailiwick (The Numberlys, The Man in the Moon, Nicholas St. North and the Battle of the Nightmare King, Toothiana, and the #1 New York Times bestselling The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore, which is also an Academy Award–winning short film, to name a few). He lives with his family in Shreveport, Louisiana.
The correct book description for Be My Pal follows: Preschoolers are invited to join Rolie Polie Olie and his little sister, Zowie, as they figure out how to be siblings AND best friends.
My thoughts: This is a wonderful story for a little boy welcoming a new baby sister into the family. It eases sibling rivalry fears and offers a positive spin on the process of becoming a big brother. Plus, it is so darn cute visually and the rhyming text is just irresistible for little ones and their parents.
