Bite Sized Bride

Rate this book
She’s small enough to break.
But I don’t want to break her.

I want to keep her.

She thought she could run from the monster chained in her master’s temple.
She didn’t realize the moment I scented her, she stopped being prey.
She became mine.

Every time she looks at me with those wide, terrified eyes, I remember my name.
Every time she whispers to me, the rage quiets.
But don’t mistake her softness for safety. I was built to hunt, to kill, to destroy. And now I’ll do all of that for her.

She doesn’t know it yet, but I’ll put a chain on the world itself before I let anyone take my bride away.

She’s bite sized.
And I’m starving.

Read on for terrified brides, feral obsession, size difference that borders on impossible, and a beast who only learns one mine. HEA Guaranteed!

It seems kinda unfair to nitpick a book with a title and cover like this— because I wasn’t expecting great literature— but I have critiques BECAUSE it was far better than expected. This made the frustrating parts stand out more in an otherwise surprisingly heartfelt story of self-acceptance and learning to love.

Spoilers ahead because I’m referring to specific plot points to point to my frustrations, mostly errors that some editing and feedback could’ve caught. Which is a shame. Anyhoo—

The authors seems to forget certain plots we’ve already established. When Lord Malakor and the sorceress Vexia ambush them at the place of unmaking, they bring up Fenris and his regret over turning them in. Somehow Mikana concludes from that taunt that Fenris lied about having a daughter initially and performed this 2nd betrayal. But the characters heard Vexia taunt him when he initially betrayed them by saying that his daughter would “be returned… in pieces” and he crumbles hearing that news. There’s no reason for Malakar to make Fenris play out a little scene like that— he’s already betrayed them and doesn’t need to keep them trusting him. Because they’re never trusted him to start, it’s not really a betrayal?

And that leads into another gripe: the pacing. Yes, I expected the plot to move quickly based on the length, but it doesn’t give itself time for any character to sway a reader deeply with their actions. Who tf even is Fenris? I had to look up the name again to make these points because he was hardly in the book, yet weirdly relevant to a lot of my issues. He’s introduced as a runaway human living in the woods, whom Kael and Mikana don’t trust but decide to go along with to further a common goal. But the chapters are short and the plot moves quickly, so it’s not long after the character is introduction that he betrays them. Ouch, I think? Like it’s hard to feel any emotion related to the side characters because they’re hardly present.

The descriptions of the characters are also said SO OFTEN. Which I get that’s the point with a size-difference being a huge aspect of their story (hello- title). But the descriptions were incessant and exactly the same. The word “mountain” was used to describe Kael 16 times. Usually in some variation of “he’s a mountain of scarred/brooding/cursed flesh.” Yet somehow I still don’t have a distinct picture of him in my head.

The 2 POVs had some weird overlaps in the character voice that seemed odd to me. I generally liked both of their internal voices, but they would use the same phrasing and words to describe something in their chapters. For example, in the context of describing him gently bumping his head against hers:
Mikana POV: a strangely gentle, animalistic gesture
Kael POV: a clumsy, animalistic gesture
There are a few other moments that are similarly written that made me pause and say “wait… didn’t I just read that? Whose POV is this again?”
Another example is the line “it was not a kiss of passion, but one of longing/comfort/compassion etc).” This was used 4 times… it’s not a long book! Bonus points- said in both POVs. It’s just distinct enough in its phrasing that it stands out as another way the characters’ internal voices are unrealistically similar.

Also… and this may just be a personal problem… but this should’ve been way kinkier. Not that Mikana should’ve trussed Kael up in bondage gear, but for the size difference between them to be a focal point in their relationship, you’d think this would’ve included some fun scenes of them figuring out how to make it— ahem— work. They literally don’t even work up to it with foreplay, they just… have sex like a normal couple “with a little discomfort” but the passion and love replaces even that with pleasure. (Yada yada, you know, the way every sex scene is described between characters of the same SPECIES). Just thought it could’ve used more exciting or even loving build up and exploration of each other. For science.

It was enjoyable enough, but didn’t have enough grit for it to be truly dark; didn’t have enough length to get sufficiently attached to the characters; didn’t have enough editing, period; and didn’t have enough sex to make you forget about the rest of the problems. ✌️

3 full stars for Mikana and Kael's story of adventure, overcoming adversity, and finding the person who settles your storms. Mikana and Kael are both imprisoned in different ways. Kael is an Urog but former Orc who is forced to fight for show, with a red haze covering his mind. He has become a shell of himself. Mikana is the scribe and librarian forced to log the treasures of the evil fae ruler. Only one day she escapes, and Kael is sent after her. She calms the storm that rages in him, and together they search for their freedom

What I liked:
-Orc romance, with a whole size difference theme (are we surprised given the title of this book LOL). Kael is 10 feet tall and Mikana is definitely...not
-OTT JP. Kael doesn't let ANYONE mess with Mikana. He is constantly throwing himself in harms way to protect her. I loved the single mindedness he had when it came to his woman
-The writing style was often poetic. The prose was mature, and it didn't ready like a hobby writer. No, there is a real talent for this author.
-I loved how layers of Kael were revealed over time. It was interesting watching him grow into himself
-Mikana having untapped powers was pretty spectacular and something the story needed
-the spicy scenes were FASCINATING due to the size difference. Let's just say this Shrek Daddy is gigantic allllll over

What I didn't like:
-There are MULTIPLE scenes where Mikana keep Kael from killing one of the evil creatures after them. And I feel like this really prolongs their chase. She also doesn't defer to Kael's instincts and again it makes things go sideways. So many of the fight scenes could've (and should've) been prevented. Especially because you could see the writing on the wall for how things would turn out
-Why the fae ruler imprisoned Mikana is never really revealed, nor is who she is/was prior to this story. Meanwhile we have multiple flashbacks for Kael, and this unevenness did bother me
-The fight scenes got old pretty quickly
-I didn't like the scene where Mikana turns away from Kael, yes they didn't know one another but I prefer when my heroines are just as feral for the hero.
-there were too many epilogues...

FAQ:
-Dual POV writing style
-No OM drama
-No OW drama
-No third act break up
-Kids in the epilogue

TLDR;
A really good time, but there were quite a few small pieces that irked me.

Could have been good but AI cover makes me doubt

The writing started okay, but as it went on I started squinting because it got very repetitive with every sentence starting off with the same thing. There's a lot of "I felt this." "I did this." kind of thing. Entire paragraphs of it.

There feels like a lack of sentence variation so it felt boring and stilted to read. Along with the clumsy amount of adjectives thrown into everything that don't really add to the narrative or depth of the story or feels like it enriches the prose, it quickly became harder to read.

Which early on in the book I wasn't enjoying the writing so I skimmed through the book and there were times the writing was really good and felt like a treat, but it was just so inconsistent!

Then I really noticed the cover. AI art is getting harder and harder to notice, I know, but her foot literally merges into the floor and her hand is a weird blob. This could just be of an author just doing a hobby, but with the AI cover I can't help but suspect there was AI used to write or heavily edit this book too.

'The emptiness inside me is a vast, dark ocean. And from its depths, something screams.
I open my mouth, and the sound that rips from my throat is not a roar of rage. It is a howl of grief for a life I cannot remember, for a name I cannot speak, for a soul that is no longer my own. It is the only thing I have left.'

I loved this book. I love the size difference trope, and as soon as I saw the cover I was so excited to see how this romance would blossom! Great world building and wonderful characters. I loved both Mikana and Kael- both enslaved by a cruel master. I was especially drawn to Kael and my heart broke for what was being done to him.

This story was fast-paced and exciting, suspenseful and dangerous. I loved when he hunted her down and right when she surrendered to what should have been her death, her final words snapped a chain in him and set him free.

'The power dynamic, so absolute a moment ago, has shattered. He is no longer the hunter. I am no longer the prey. We are just two broken things in a forgotten ruin, caught in a moment of impossible stillness.
The hound has broken its chain. And I, his quarry, am the only one he has not harmed.'

I loved the dynamic between them and the way their relationship developed. I was completely fascinated and couldn't put it down. This is my favorite book from this duo and I hope we get more stories with this size and power dynamic! 5 stars

3.75 stars, not what I expected in a good way

Based on the title and the cover art, I thought this was going to be a silly little (jk giant) romp, but Bite Size Bride is actually pretty dark. There’s some serious torture both on page and implied in the history. It’s not too long or too graphic, but it’s definitely there, so mind your triggers.

I was a big fan of Kael and Mikana as characters. They stole the show as individuals, and they brought so much goodness and healing to each other after major suffering.

What would have made this a solid 4 stars for me was more context. Of course, it’s a short read so I wouldn’t expect major exposition, but some indicators of where our big bad came from, why so many people seemed quite happy to support his reign of torture, or what Mikana’s background was would have gone a long way. Also, I would have appreciated a bit of editing to reduce some of the repetitive descriptions.

The spice wasn’t my favorite either. They were so wholesome together that I would have been happy with fade to blacks. Not to mention, the over emphasis of Kael’s childlike curiosity right before moving into some decidedly adult behavior was not ideal.

Overall, this was a very interesting read. I had a good time, and I love the cover art. Not sure the art or the title match the content, but they got me in the door, so a job well done.

I liked this story very much, it was suffering and recovering all in one sweet story. Mikana was a strong sweet character that any mc would fight to die for and our orcish urog Kael was a sweetheart.

The writing threw me for a spin at times by how deep it was. I really learned things from this book.

{{ “I do not like it. I do not like him. But I tolerate his presence. For her. Because she believes we need him. And her belief is a chain I am only just learning how to wear.” }}

{{ “She is a silent, unshakeable anchor in the storm of my sorrow.
"She was a part of you," she says finally, her voice a soft, steady murmur. "And the things we love... they become a part of us. They are not a debt to be paid, or a ghost to be appeased. They are the soil from which we grow."
She looks up at me, her dark eyes shining with an empathy so profound it takes my breath away.
"You are not replacing her by being with me, Kael. You are honoring her by choosing to live. By choosing to feel again."}}

I felt that Mikana really was a scribe full of wisdom with her acceptance and steady presence and i loved that.

If you liked this book, please skip this review. I dont intend to be mean/hurtful/rude. It's just my personal opinion.

This book pissed me off abit. I went in thinking it would be a lighthearted cute story and found loads of trauma and gore. Absolutely nothing wrong with that.

What pissed me off was that I felt this book was just written using a detailed prompt into an AI engine. There were a few sentences that made absolutely no sense, and alot of plot points that weren't flushed out or explained. Who was lord Malakor? What were the Wildspont? How were they made? How did lord Malakor die? Who are Purna and why is their blood so magical? Who are the Thirteen deities that they keep mentioning? So many questions with no answers.

Not to mention the repetitive language that was used over and over. 30% into the book and I just couldn't hold my eye roll over having to read more about another 'physical thing'. The expressions used were just worn through by the end of the book.

Kael is nothing if not a huge creature of touch her and d13 vibes but a complete cinnamon role for her.

From the moment you "hear" of Kael in the book, you know that the love is gonna be epic. Mikana is just as much a slave as Kael and when her plan to escape starts she is all in....and runing full force. But Lord Malakor does not let her go without a fight..though a poor fight first by sending Kael.

Kael wakes up when he gets her in sight and those instincts kick in..protect, provide, keep. That chant is the undertone throughout the book akong with the awakening of Mikana. She not only falls in love with Kael but becaomes just as protective.

The transformation of both characters is beautiful.

Aging, if I am ever end up in the orc world through a portal, I will seek out an orc with Kael's character.

I’ve been binging these orc romances lately, and Bite-Sized Bride had a lil something going on. It start off dark—plenty trauma, pain, and magic gone wrong. The orc wasn’t just born rough; he get turned into something worse—more like a weapon than a person. No feeling, no will, just a tool for a wicked master. The heroine, she had some kind of magic blood she didn’t even know about, and she didn’t exactly free him, eh. She only manage to crack the spell a bit, just enough for him to start breaking out on his own. That part was heavy, but then the romance take a soft turn. Wholesome, even. And that’s the thing—when I pick up a monster romance, I not exactly looking for wholesome, you understand? It good, I read it in one go, but it didn’t mash me up or anything. A solid three stars—nice story, just a lil too gentle for the kind of chaos I come for.

This engaging story is about Mikana a scribe who's documenting artifacts in Lord Malakor's vault hear the roars of the beast underneath her. Kael an Urog is magical chained in a chamber by the sorceress Vexia to obey Malakor's orders. He roars with rage and inside sees red as Vexia puts a new collar to control him. Kael is led to a chamber where he's ordered to fight a minotaur and kills him. Mikana is summoned to watch Malakor torture a servant which powers his altar as he says she'll be next. Mikana decides to flee that night during a storm but when discover that she's missing Malakor sends the beast. Man, I wanted to like this book. I love freaky size differences.

The writers wrote well, however, it was metaphors every other page. I started wanting to count them.

This a bleak, foolishly tragic depressing story. These two do not catch a break. And she doesn’t listen to him. She makes him let enemies go that just come back to hurt them again.

Scenes of tenderness, then back bleak. It was difficult to picture the mmc because of his curse. He was a hound? An orc hound? No muzzle or tail? Confusing.

I stopped when he remembered and started crying about his first mate who died whom he remembered, because truly, I had tragedy fatigue at that point.

Others may like this book. It wasn’t for me.

A Great Read

This book is very well written and profoundly deep supernatural tale. A true warrior's romance. The only thing that is slightly misleading, is that the proportional difference between the two main characters isn't quite as severe as the cover image leads you to believe. The cover image brought to mind a version of Thumbelina, but the author describes a ten foot tall orc and approximately a five foot human woman. Which is a believable outcome for the intimate scenes in the story. It's a story of two broken souls, connecting and surviving, while battling their oppressor for freedom and the chance of a future together. It's a wonderful standalone story, and a great choice read for fans of supernatural and monster romance stories.

"The word is a brand, searing itself onto the cavernous space inside me. It is a truth so profound, so absolute, that it shakes me to my very core.
She is not property. She is not a tool.
She is not just my peace.
She is my mate."

"The truth of it hits me like a physical blow. I am hers. This broken, cursed creature that I am -
I belong to her as surely as she belongs to me."

I didn't expect much, but it was a very touching story. There were a few mistakes (Mikana knew Kael's name before he said it, she suddenly had boots, when earlier she was barefoot) and some scenes felt repetitive.
The story of a cursed orc, the last of his clan, that was made into a mindless beast to serve as a hound for the dark elf lord was very sad. Mikana's life wasn't a bed of roses either, she was a human slave, mocked by the elves and terrified of her master.
Even with the issues this book had I couldn't help but feel for them and was rooting for them. The ending was very sweet.

I tried to like this book. It had a really interesting premise that got bogged down in repetitive words and imagery. There were moments when I felt the writing was jarring, such as trying to figure out where a pair of runaways who refuse to encounter anyone would suddenly get boots. The ending was cute, and there was a definitely "Me Tarzan" vibe, but it wasn't enough to put this on my re-read pile.

Things were lore rich, and then suddenly without much thought there was suddenly a smut scene? with like no real lead up? no real preparation of the body? It was awful? Then suddenly what... the people chasing them to kill them is suddenly not okay to kill? Mikana needs to be protected and like not killing these jerks is how you do that? This book was messy. She cant be strong and fearless while also fragile and needed to be sheltered. It almost felt like... AI? But poorly done AI?

-A dark, magical tale of sorcery, evil, and courage. I received a free copy and am voluntarily sharing my honest thoughts.
Kael and Mikana defy impossible odds to fight for freedom. Their bond grows despite size and power differences.

A haunting, yet hopeful story of love, family, and new beginnings.

This was 100 percent written with AI. This author has released as of today TWENTY FIVE TITLES IN 2025. WOW. The writing is garbage…probably because it’s AI. Also super inconsistent. Kael is supposed to be a literal giant. Like literally she shouldn’t be able to “wrap her legs around him” this is Jack and the beanstalk. So bad, would not support this author.

Beauty and the beast

While it is kind of a retelling of beauty and the beast it has its unique twists. I like how they end up meeting and connecting. The possessiveness. Even though this book is only like 200 pages I didn't want to finish it a couple times but glad I did it was pretty cute and they got their HEA.

This book reads like AI unfortunately. The preview at the ending is literally copy and paste, it says "Thank you for reading Bound in Shadows" but the book was Bite Sized Bride. This book was repetitive and just gave the vibe that even if it isn't pure AI it definitely feels as if it was heavily used.

AI ALERT! AI ALERT! Not just the awful cover (what is your hand and foot ma'am) but the writing itself screams of AI. And they're charging $4 for this slop! Luckily it's on Kindle Unlimited so I'm not out any money but I am out the time it took to realize it was AI. I could have spent that time reading something written by a real person with real heart put in.

This is really beautifully written. There are some plot elements that I thought didn’t make a ton of sense, particularly regarding Ferris, and I felt like three intimate scenes were each written as if they were the first one. But the story is good and the prose, again, is really lovely without being stuffy or over the top.
