My Hanna and Richard:
Engaging writing, realistic characters, believable storyline and no insta-love. Fix You is a love story about overcoming hardships and facing consequences of your mistakes; a love story that will touch your heart and stay with you forever. A must-read!
Story starts with prologue, when 29 years old Hanna who comes to her ex-lover Richard's office to tell him this huge secret which she doesn't want to hide anymore. Than, readers are moved back in time so they can see events that had happened prior to this moment...
17 years old Hanna doesn't have the best relationship with her father so instead of enjoying the luxuries of high society, she lives ordinary life in London with her beloved mother. But her life and future changes the moment she agrees to help her mum with New Year's Eve party at Larsen's Residence...
This epic story covers period of 12 years. It held my 100% attention from the beginning to the end. I couldn't put it down, I couldn't stop thinking about it and it became one of my all time favourite stories, the one I will never forget. I loved it!
I enjoyed Hanna's humour and free-spirit and I felt in love with Richard's kind and self-sacrificing character. There were many other great characters who made this story unique but Richard and Hanna were definitely in the spotlight.
Fix You deals with some serious issues as well as ordinary human problems. Some parts were extremely sad and depressive, others were very emotional and my heart broke couple of times for the main characters. Reality was not making it easy for Richard and Hanna and their lives were full of drama and serious problems. This story will consume you and you definitely should read it. Author has beautiful way with words and I cannot recommend this story enough!

If there’s one thing I’m grateful of this book it's that it has cured me of my inability to skim. And I’ll probably have to insta-rec this book to anyone with a similar problem because that last 25%, or everything that happens after the introduction of Matty, will put the fear of God in your heart as you watch yourself waste away precious minutes in your life you will never get back. So in behalf of my lifespan, which inevitably gets a little bit shorter with every new adult book that tries my patience, and my sanity, which increasingly becomes questionable with every 1-star read I push myself to finishing and not shelf as DNF… thank you.
Fix You isn’t the worst book I’ve ever read. Never mind that the title only strengthens my belief that Coldplay is being recognized as a religion by a certain group of people or the fact that this book hardly delivers any of what it promises in the blurb (why is there a broken record in the cover? I need a parent to explain this to me). No, I could even see the effort exerted by the author to deliver something different: there was no insta-love, there was a lot of pointlessness but there was no pointless love triangle, the method of storytelling was hardly original but it has some ambition… it’s just that it ends at that and wallows in its entirety; wallows in all that bland ambition (tour).
The book opens in 2012, with 29-year old Hanna Vincent waiting in Richard Larsen’s New York office. We get a sense that they have a history together but they’ve been apart for some time. Their separation doesn’t appear to be under friendly terms, yet with Hanna’s graphic and diligent observation of Richard’s biceps and hips and Richard’s dark gaze on Hanna’s moistened lips, you know they’ll eventually be banging each other on a poor unsuspecting coffee table down the line. Especially since Hanna drops the bomb that “they had a baby.”
What follows traces the course of their relationship starting with Hanna’s mother catering the Larsen’s Y2K party in London in 1999. Each chapter then jumps from one, non-specific date to another, ranging from a span of a year to a day, showcasing moments in their lives, together, apart, then together again, then apart again. We see their paths cross and uncross repeatedly as they survive through cheating lovers, family deaths through events, big and small, and accidents, the injurious and the pregnant kinds… all the way to that conversation between Richard and Hanna in his office at the beginning of the book.
On an impulse my first thought with the storytelling was Do we really need to wax nostalgic about the year 2000 and every year thereafter? Does this book’s appeal soar exponentially by making Richard ALMOST out-Zuckerberg Mark Zuckerberg had 9/11 didn’t happen? Or when they reference the Justin Timberlake-Janet Jackson superbowl fiasco in a casual conversation in 2004? Or Foot and Mouth Disease? Or the Subprime Mortgage Crisis? Does the story improve by somewhat incorporating these things in the story?
Not even the copious Harry Potter namedropping could blind me into ignoring the subpar, choppy and disjointed delivery of the story. I suppose I was expecting that the date-chapter gimmick would give me a proper idea of how Richard and Hanna evolve as they mature. Unfortunately, since both characters end up in each other’s orbit in these chapters one way or another, Hanna and Richard’s depth became co-dependent with each other. The moments when they made choices that were supposed to contribute to the evolution of their personalities fade into the background with the chapter ending abruptly, followed by a different period with a flimsy explanation as to what transpired in the interim.
For example, there was one chapter that dealt with Hanna being depressed which ultimately led her into leaving London, the Larsens and Richard to search her soul in… Sydney (is Sydney the soul-searching hotspot nowadays?). The chapter ends with a heated argument with Richard that ultimately led with an apology and a door closing. The next chapter jumps a year after and Richard is talking to Daniel (his brother) because he wants to travel himself. Then the chapter after, Hanna attends Richard’s sister’s party as a surprise.
The Sydney incident was addressed as such:
Pardon the French, but what the NON-SPECIFIC fuck was that?! Perhaps there’s an unwritten rule somewhere where theres a sex scene quota doctrine that needs to be achieved in contemporary romance but I strongly feel against sacrificing much substantial scenes as this to address the wrong assumptions about contemporary romance readers. Scenes that shed light and proper depth to a character’s personality. Especially in stories like these with endless permutation of reconciliation and separation. It can get tedious, I should at least know AND LIKE these protagonists to give a shit what becomes of them.
Or at least, minimum requirement, just a little bit of chemistry together.
Okay and maybe some honesty at face value.
For a book with a broken record cover adopting a widely popular song title as its own and the promise of a “quirky music-loving heroine” from the blurb, I’m thoroughly disappointed with how little a role music played in the story. Hanna’s supposed to be a Lester Bangs-type personality (snort) with friendly ties to a rockstar... and that’s about as musical as this got. It did figure sometimes in the background: a mix-tape there, a song there but that’s about it.Thankfully, I had very little expectations with Richard, the “handsome and driven” hero promised in the blurb. I’ve been around this ride before and any book that introduces the hero as such:
I’m 99% sure this is the kind of hero that would NOT interest me. Until now I’m wondering what exactly was Richard supposed to make me feel. Such deep and detailed introspection on all that jaw and none for his ideals, his philosophy and ambitions.
The rambling, aimless nature of Hanna and Richard’s story was further clunked down by secondary characters that served no purpose but to hold parties to, celebrate birthdays and wedding with so both our protagonists would have an excuse to see each other again. There were just too many of them to keep track of: Hanna and Richard’s parents have new families each with half-sister and brothers…. it truly rivals the cast of some epic high fantasy novels out there, without the purpose of each. What was the point of Daniel? Or Tom? Or Ruby really?
And as if fatigued the clunking cast, the dragging and messy storyline and the cardboard characters, something about the point beyond the 70% mark, when the story stops reminiscing and goes forward in supposed real time, makes me feel the author just gave up on even trying. There was no conflict whatsoever beyond that point. Actually even all throughout, the conflict of separation was created by Richard and Hanna themselves, but at a certain point, the pointlessness just took the stage. It was scene after scene of Hanna the sluggishness was just bananas! It’s like talking to someone when all you wanted to do was leave but you can’t because you’ve already listened to her thus far, what’s another minute? Or a hundred? Or heck, what’s a little more drama via a poor man’s version of Colleen Hoover’s folded paper stars from Slammed?
To some degree, I do recognise my fault. I really should stop looking for books to fill the gaping How to Kill A Rockstar hole in my heart. Should you be tempted to pick this one up on the strength of that hankering and the promise of the blurb…

Hanna closed her eyes and thought of her time in Sydney. At first she had been lost; realising the misery she was running away from had followed her across the world. It had been a stark wake-up call, and one which hit her hard. But, bit by bit, she managed to climb her way out of the pit of despair. It hadn’t been easy or quick, and she had fallen more times than she cared to remember, but she eventually made it out into the bright light of day.

His face, Lord his face. It was all jaw (not sure how this is attractive, but okay) and plump lips, straight nose and mossy green eyes. His smooth forehead was framed by an artfully styled mop of light-brown hair. He looked like every clean-cut Manhattan boy she’d ever had the misfortune to come in contact with.

Fix You charts to course of Richard Larsen and Hanna Vincent's lives, over the passing of 12 years (New Years Eve 1999 to New Years Eve 2012). This is a story that will grab hold of your heart and not let you go until the end of what I have to say is probably the most comprehensive, well written Epilogue I have ever read.
A lot happens in those 12 years, both to Richard and Hannah, but also to the world as a whole, Births, Deaths and Marriages, as well as more well known things such as the Big Brother phenomenon, the explosion of the mobile phone and the massive advances in technology that followed, to the heartbreak and incomprehensible horror of 9/11.
Richard and Hanna in a way (some small and some large) bring meaning to them all. This isn't your standard love story, in that it's not just a boy meets girl, blah-de-blah. This is about how "Prep boy" and "Goth girl" meet each other on the cusp of adulthood and the responsibility that comes with it, and what starts out as friendship develops over the years. There are obstacles (boy are there), and the HEA is elusive in that it never seems to really be on the cards. But that's what makes Fix You even harder to put down, there are so many occasions when you sigh and think "finally" but it is then snatched away from you (as well as Richard and Hanna)again.
Told from both Richard and Hanna's points of view, the story develops gradually, both together, separately and via letter and email. The cast of secondary characters blend in seamlessly, all of them in their own small parts adding to the richness and beautiful flow to the story. I loved Tom, Ruby, Richards Parent's, and Hanna's mother. They all added to the tapestry of the tale positively, just like all of the flotsam and jetsam that inevitably flows through 12 years of anyone's life.
I would call this a grown-ups romance, in that it doesn't contain an overload of angst. There is plenty of drama, but it is real and lends itself to the actual story, rather than being thrown in for good measure. Let's face it most relationships build and develop over years, insta-love is a very rare phenomenon, and the highs and lows of their relationship over time puts the reader through a ringer of emotions.
Carrie Elks has done what a lot of authors struggle to do in that she has put a simple story down on paper, but made it unusual in the fact that it is engrossing, emotive, easy to relate too (even though my life is and has never been remotely like the characters), it's a total win for me on every level. As a Brit, being set mainly in the UK and the US adds to the appeal, there isn't anything in Fix You that I didn't like.
I highlighted like crazy, Carrie brings the emotion to every conversation, moment and passing with such clarity, but I want to leave my review with one of my favourites -
"I love you..." Her words were breath. They danced through the air like an invisible thread, drawing them together. "Love you..." A gasp, a promise. He said it again, just to hear the words.

Se esta é uma história cheia de clichés? É! Mas eu devo confessar que adoro clichés, sobretudo quando as histórias são bem conduzidas e nos entregam personagens bem construídas, com personalidades cativantes.
Antes de começar a ler esta história, pensei que fosse do género young-adult, mas não a consigo catalogar dessa forma, porque apesar de começar no final da adolescência dos personagens, a verdade é que a história vai se prolongando durante décadas, para mim trata-se de um romance.
Esta é uma história de amor, cheia de encontros, desencontros e mal entendidos.
As personagens principais são deliciosas, Hanna uma jovem irreverente, apreciadora de música, sobretudo rock e Richard um rapaz de uma família de posses, mas que não o torna naquele típico rico mimado, é um personagem encantador, capaz de arrancar suspiros de tão carinhoso e apaixonado que ele é.
Neste enredo vão se juntando outras histórias que dificultam a relação deles de dar certo, uma dessas histórias é um segredo tão forte que pode não ter perdão possível, será o amor deles capaz de ultrapassar grandes mágoas?
Uma leitura bastante fluída, que se lê bem rápido, dividida por capítulos com as datas do que vai acontecendo.

Neste enredo vão se juntando outras histórias que dificultam a relação deles de dar certo, uma dessas histórias é um segredo tão forte que pode não ter perdão possível, será o amor deles capaz de ultrapassar grandes mágoas?
Uma leitura bastante fluída, que se lê bem rápido, dividida por capítulos com as datas do que vai acontecendo.

My first book by this author. The book starts by giving away the predictable secret which I liked. Then we go back to the beginning to find out what happens. These two chapters live miles apart. Their paths cross but the timing is never right.

In the prologue of Fix You we are introduced to 29yo Hanna confronting Richard in his office. Hanna has something to tell him. She is nervous and scared. She is not sure how he will take this so she just blurts it out.
Flash back 12 years. It’s 31 Dec 1999 and 17yo Hanna meets Richard for the first time. They are immediately smitten with each other and a friendship ensues but with Hanna living in London and Richard in new York it’s little wonder they find it hard to connect.
Hanna and Richard’s romance is full of ups and downs, misunderstandings and being in the right place at the wrong time.
I found the first quarter of the book was lacking in emotion as there was too much “telling” of what had happened after the event.
In the second half the whole story turned around. The emotion was there and I couldn’t stop reading. Throw in a few spicy, hot love scenes and a few scenes to shed a tear over and this contemporary romance had won me over.
There will be a HEA but it’s a long rocky road with real hurdles and dramas for the couple to overcome in this second chance romance story.
I am looking forward to reading more from, first time author for me, Carrie Elks.

The start of the book dragged me in with Coldplay and Harry Potter references. I love the title and cover of this book. Hannah and Richard do fix each other and make each other complete. The two settings of New York and London are perfect. The lead characters are just made for each other with life getting in the way.
My favourite part of the book is how the writer goes through the years, it adds detail and makes the story different.
By then end the story does just start to become just sex scenes. Then the end is almost too perfect. It's certainly a happy ending type of book with no suprise to how it ends. However with this story I didn't mind.You would not like this book if you don't like reading sex scenes.

Avete presente quei libri che non vi danno un solo attimo di respiro? Quei libri che vi portate dappertutto perché è tanta l'ansia di sapere come evolverà la storia, ma nello stesso tempo rallentate perché avete paura? Ebbene "Abbi cura di me" di Carrie Elks è uno di quei libri.
Preso per caso perché attratta dalla cover insolitamente carina della CE, è uno dei romance più belli che abbia mai letto. Un libro che toglie il fiato per l'altalena di emozioni a cui si è sottoposti, per l'intensità che emana. I nostri protagonisti sono Hanna e Richard e vedremo l'evoluzione della loro storia in un periodo di circa quindici anni e, in quindici anni, di cose ne accadono, soprattutto se il destino ci mette lo zampino e se il sentirsi inadeguata di Hanna le fa compiere tante scelte che vi faranno venire la voglia di lanciare il kindle dalla finestra. Rimane la storia di un amore straordinario, indimenticabile, che se ne frega del tempo che passa, delle distanze geografiche e delle scelte sbagliate. Mai noioso, mai banale, molto lontano dai romance contemporanei del tutto e subito, tutto accade in modo graduale e con un tatto e una delicatezza che lasciano il segno, soprattutto il magnifico epilogo, che mai come in questo caso, mi ha dato una piena soddisfazione.

Estava muito bem mas depressa passou do 80 para o menos -8. 'Caredo' que história mas cliché e previsível. Juro, parecia que estava a ler e resumo uma novela da TVI...

Como tive boas experiências com os romances que a Planeta lançou este ano (cito: ''Sinto a tua falta'' e ''Antes de ires'') dei também uma hipótese a este livro mas as minhas expectativas não foram de todo superadas. Primeiro defeito que encontro é o facto de o livro nem ter 300 páginas mas passam-se ''mil anos'' na acção. O livro começa em 1999 com a protagonista - Hannah Vincent - com 18 anos e termina com ela a um ano de completar 40! Isto tudo em menos de 300 páginas. O início então é quase um capítulo por ano mas vão havendo vários saltos temporais para o tempo andar mais depressa.

As personagens começam um pouco rasas, sem grande personalidade. A que tem maior evolução é a Hannah e no fim até tem umas atitudes acertadas. O par romântico não me convenceu muito, achava os diálogos deles muito fraquinhos, aliás achei a escrita um bocado amadora, não sei se este também foi o primeiro livro que a autora escreveu mas já vi que ela tem muitos mais livros, pode ser que os outros sejam superiores.
Falando em pontos positivos: Gostei do facto de a Hannah e o Richard começarem com amigos e só depois tornarem-se num casal. É sempre mais giro ver a evolução de amizade para amor do que um amor repentino, porque como já se conhecem, a dinâmica entre as personagens é logo diferente. Gostei também que o romance se passasse em Inglaterra, França e a cidade de Nova Iorque. Outro ponto onde é dado destaque é a música, como a Hannah trabalha com bandas, temos algumas referências a bandas e músicas do género pop-rock.
As personagens secundárias também não são más, gostei do Tom e gostei que a autora não criasse um triângulo amoroso muito evidente.
A capa também está muito gira e dentro do género.
Resumindo, eu até percebo o porquê de gostarem tanto deste livro mas para mim foi um livro muito banal e com uma história que não me cativou por aí além. Talvez tenha o lido numa altura má, consequente de leituras fantásticas mas mesmo assim aconselho, pois é um romance simples e que sei que vai de encontro ao gosto de muitas leitoras deste género.

Richard ed Hanna,una storia che si svolge nell'arco di vent'anni. Due persone agli antipodi ma unite da un amore unico. Durante la lettura sono stata sempre con il fiato sospeso. Quando finalmente sembrava di essere giunti a buon punto,il destino infausto ribalta tutto. Ricomincia il dolore,lo smarrimento,la lontananza....
Richard un uomo unico:gentile,con un senso del dovere indiscutibile,ci mette impegno in tutto quello che fa;che sia lavoro, che sia amore.Hanna non ha avuto una vita facile,ma è dolcissima,spontanea e coraggiosa...
Una trama avvicente con un inizio lento ma che successivamente incolla il lettore,tanto che quando giungi all'epilogo, meravigliosamente dolce,quasi ti spiace che sia finito....⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

From time to time we find a book that is close to our hearts and has a way to touch your feelings in indescribables ways. Fix You was it for me. I couldn't stop reading it for a second!
It's not only the fact that the plot is amazing, but the way the author used her words to touch us has made all the difference in this book!
The fact that made me love this book so much is not only the love story fact but comparing to the romances books that are out there this one seems real for me, like the characters feelings send us the impression of reality! For me they weren't fictional characters but people like us with real feelings.
If you want to read an amazing, really well written story, FIX YOU is a must for you to read!! One of the best romance books that I've ever read!

3.5 nostalgic stars
With that cover, I feared this might be a chick lit with 'zany' characters and zero smut, but happily this was a contemporary romance with an absorbing plot and decent smut so I was glad I gave it the benefit of the doubt. Makes a change from the oiled and chiselled abs that seem to be all over the covers of my most recent reads. Not that I'm complaining or anything.
This was a friends to lovers story told through key events in their lives over 15 years starting from 1999. It had great nostalgic value, with references to bands and technology and news events through the years woven into the story.
What I didn't like as much was that their story seemed to jump forward too quickly at times - the need to include contemporary news events and move the story on was at the expense of learning more about the characters and their relationships with one another I think. I don't feel like I ever really got to know Richard. The time they actually spend together is relatively short, instead we get lots of information about what they're doing individually and with their families. It made it hard to feel their chemistry at times; no sooner had we enjoyed their first, long awaited nookie then the timeline skipped forward six months, leaving me feeling a bit deflated and removed from their relationship.
That said, the plot was interesting and the prologue was enticing, making me keen to find out how *that* happened, so I was absorbed in the story and the writing. Oh and it's a standalone - Hurrah.
It reminded me in some ways of the Remember trilogy, so if you liked that, you'll love this. Recommended.

The best thing of being a reader is that we can trust that some writers are going to make us pass through extraordinary experiences.
Yes, I know that I'm not really Hanna, but it's impossible not get lost in her life. Feel like her smiles, fights, sufferings, mistakes and passions are all mine.
Trying to get better. Trying to be better. It's what we try everyday, right?
I could say that she's a normal girl living a normal life and that's the reason I feel her so close to me. But the story makes me feel that she.. me.. each one of us are so much more than normal.
I started to analyse some things in my past, some things that I remember, others I'm still passing through, and saw that even the saddest things were needed. I have to pass through good and bad things so I can say: I am really living!
We had a perfect song by Coldplay and now we have a perfect story. Thanks Carrie.
If I have to describe the book in one word would be hope.
FIX YOU GIVES US HOPE.
And while we have hope, everything can happen.

Meu Deus, que livro bom!
Realmente um livro sobre o amor.
Eles se conheceram em 1999. Hanna, uma adolescente gótica e Richard um cara legal.
Apesar de se sentirem atraídos, a amizade entre eles sempre foi muito forte, muitos anos se passaram até se renderem a paixão.
Ahhh, como se amam! <3
Existe tantos percursos, tantos erros, tantas decepções no caminho deles, mas NUNCA faltou amor.
Após erros e acertos, como está na sinopse, ela engravida e ele não fica sabendo.
Imagina dois anos depois ficar sabendo que o amor da sua vida, tem um filho seu?
Richard, agora um mega empresário no ramo imobiliário, enlouquece!
Eles buscam o perdão um do outro... Claro que é clichê e tals, mas é lindo!
Além do mais, tem vários personagens que são apaixonantes também!

Questo libro inizia con il prologo e una notizia sconvolgente ed è un po' come le cose fatte al contrario, si ripercorre la vita di questa coppia dal loro primo incontro fino allo sfascio e oltre.
15 anni ripercorsi con la consapevolezza di arrivare a quel momento, il loro innamoramento è lento e a tratti mi sono chiesta come mai non cedessero l'uno all'altra, non era solo attrazione ma un volersi bene e cercarsi all'inverosimile.
Richard e Hanna si cono conosciuti nel capodanno del 1999, Hanna aiuta la madre ad allestire il cenone mentre Richard è il figlio della famiglia che ospita la festa di fine anno, tutti e due all'alba dei vent'anni con un futuro alla porte ma una distanza non indifferente a separarli perché lei vive a Londra mentre lui a New York.
In quei 15 anni ne succedono di ogni tra cui un lutto difficile da assorbire con conseguente depressione, la tragedia dell'11 settembre e purtroppo due famiglie a confronto con la mamma di Richard in forte contrasto con la malcapitata Hanna.
Ho sicuramente amato di più Richard che ha dimostrato un grande sentimento e una grande forza nel rincorrere e riprendersi una Hanna sempre di più persa nella sua debolezza e nella sua fragilità.
Un po' lento ma una trama avvincente, contenta di averlo letto.

Ich hatte eigentlich keine großen Erwartungen an „Kiss you - Gestern, heute und für immer“. Die Kurzbeschreibung klang vielversprechend und passte in mein Lesebeuteschema. Und jetzt nach dem Lesen des Buches hoffe ich sehr, dass es noch viele weitere Bücher der Autorin bald bei uns geben wird. Denn „Kiss you - Gestern, heute und für immer“ war definitiv ein Überraschungshit für mich.
Carrie Elks hat einen sehr angenehmen Schreibstil. Locker und leicht, dabei humorvoll und auch sexy. Ich war mir anfangs nicht sicher, wie ich die Zeitsprünge finden würde, aber es war überhaupt kein Problem. Eher im Gegenteil, ich hatte so das Gefühl, dass die Geschichte noch intensiver war. Man hatte eine größere Verbindung zu den Figuren gehabt. Ich hätte eigentlich gerne noch viele mehr über Hanna und Richard gelesen. Zwar gab es bei Hannas Verhalten bzw. ihren Entscheidung manchmal einen kleinen Zwiespalt zwischen uns, aber da kann ich großzügig drüber hinweg sehen, einfach weil der Rest so stimmig war.
Ich hab angefangen das Buch zu lesen und war eigentlich sofort drin. Es hat einfach unheimlich viel Spaß gemacht „Kiss you - Gestern, heute und für immer“ zu lesen. Die Geschichte ist einfach authentisch und lebensnah. Als wäre man mittendrin anstatt nur dabei. Von Seite zu Seite war ich mehr darüber begeistert, wie sehr ich die Geschichte mochte. Beim Lesen hatte ich dieses kuschelige wohlfühl Gefühl, dass ich so liebe. Ich habe das Buch in einem Rutsch inhaliert und fand es schade, als es dann zu Ende war.
Und ich kann sagen, dass ich eine neue Autorin für mich entdeckt habe. Ich hoffe sehr, dass es bald schon Nachschub von Carrie Elks geben wird.

Beim Lesen hatte ich dieses kuschelige wohlfühl Gefühl, dass ich so liebe. Ich habe das Buch in einem Rutsch inhaliert und fand es schade, als es dann zu Ende war.
Und ich kann sagen, dass ich eine neue Autorin für mich entdeckt habe. Ich hoffe sehr, dass es bald schon Nachschub von Carrie Elks geben wird.
Fazit
Mit „Kiss you - Gestern, heute und für immer“ konnte mich Carrie Elks voll und ganz begeistert und ist zum Überraschungshit mutiert. Ich habe das Buch unheimlich gerne gelesen und freue mich schon ganz doll auf weitere Werke der Autorin.

Um livro cheio de dramas e um pouco de felicidade á mistura. Perfeito para quem gosta de um drama levezinho, mas com grandes aventuras.

La lettura di “Abbi cura di me”, romanzo del 2016, nasce da un giorno di pioggia e dal mio fantastico mondo incantato, leggasi Kindle, pieno di reperti ormai storici, scaricati per le più varie ragioni ma poi finiti sotto a molto altro di più “famoso”. E per fortuna ogni tanto “scivolo” su queste chicche, perché perderne la lettura sarebbe un vero delitto.
Abbi cura di me non è solo un romanzo, è un film perfettamente scenografato, una sinfonia di sentimenti, una giostra di personaggi indimenticabili che il destino sbatte e trascina qua e là, addirittura attraverso anni e continenti, soltanto perché ad un certo punto della loro vita si trovino esattamente là dove avrebbero dovuto essere fin dall’inizio.
Il prologo, con la protagonista che rivela al protagonista qualcosa di assolutamente sconvolgente, è a dir poco geniale. Altro che ingresso ad effetto, questa è una vera bomba!
Hanna e Richard, questi i loro nomi, si conoscono da 13 anni, o meglio, si sono conosciuti 13 anni prima, quando lei era solo la figlia della cameriera inglese e lui il figlio più grande di un’agiata famiglia americana.
Oggi sono soltanto un uomo e una donna appartenenti a mondi diversi, che vorrebbero ignorarsi, vittime degli intrighi delle loro famiglie e di malintesi mai spiegati. Peccato che il diavolo faccia sempre le pentole senza i coperchi e…i segreti siano sempre destinati ad essere scoperti.
Del resto, provate voi a resistere a un uomo che ti dice:
“Perché sei sempre stata soltanto tu.”
Chi si è sempre sentita inferiore nel rapporto tra i due, è Hanna, per ovvi motivi di classe e ricchezza, tuttavia è sempre lei l’autrice delle più profonde ferite inferte al povero Richard. Bello, irascibile, deciso, passionale e ostinato, lui possiede ogni caratteristica per farci innamorare, è sempre stato forte solo in apparenza, ma in realtà si tratta di quello che ha messo in gioco la posta più alta, perdendola sempre. Non per questo resta meno maschio alfa, grazie alle descrizioni dell’autrice, che ha il talento rarissimo di dare la vita appunto a personaggi indimenticabili.
E Hanna? Lei è un’eroina con la testa sulle spalle e il cuore al guinzaglio, una che vorrebbe osare, ma che zittisce sempre le ragioni dei sentimenti, per i motivi più diversi e più validi, finendo per fare quasi sempre dei disastri incalcolabili, tanto per se stessa quanto per gli altri. Eppure non si può far a meno di amarla e…girare pagina, aspettando che il destino sistemi i suoi casini incontenibili!
La noia? Non saprete nemmeno cos’è, leggendo questo romanzo, in compenso avrete più di un momento in cui vorrete dare qualche sonoro schiaffone da risveglio a questo o quel personaggio. Garantito!
Ma se a suo tempo avete perso, come me, questa lettura, recuperatela. Ne vale davvero la pena, spicca nell’oceano dei romanzi rosa.

Fix You is about normal people. Normal everyday relatable people who have the same ups and downs in life that any of us could have. Hanna and Richard's journey puts you through the ringer; you feel their joy and their pain and live their highs and lows, they frustrate, they make foolish decisions but they're soul mates, they're just meant to be and you can't not want them to find their HEA.

Withh a plethora of secondary characters to love and hate, all adding valuable content, Carrie Elks has brought her reader a contemporary romance that draws you in from the opening chapter. Granted at times I found it a little slow going, I still polished it off in one sitting and found it an enjoyable captivating read.

Fix You is the kind of book you just can stop reading. Carrie Elks can relate real facts with fiction in such a unique way!
Your heart will ache for Richard and Hanna throughout the story...
but you will also have fun with them!
They will face the consequences of their mistakes but will grow with them. Authentic characters! And I must say the Epilogue is one of the best I have ever read!!!

Fix You for me its not only a contemporary novel or just a romance. Its a story that relates to my personal life. When I started to read the journey of Richard & Hanna, all the ups and downs, happy and sad moments I went back in time with them and remember every thing that happened over the last years. I was laughing with the turn of the century in 2000, and I was in tears when she described 9/11, honoring not only those who passed but also the ones that survived. This book is about normal people like you and me that are always trying to make the best of life. Carrie writes with her heart and soul and you can feel that in every word. Fix you showed me that no matter what, if we have hope and believe in ourselves we will find our way home.

This book is amazing! I tried to come up with words to describe it but it comes in waves. In parts you feel beautifully broken. In others, you're twisted perfection. Carrie Elks knows how to write characters that crawl into your heart and make you literally go through their journey. Fix You is a tale of breaking love and making love. It's not often a writer hits on the realities of the world and mingles it with fiction. Bravo! I highly recommend!

Le résumé de ce livre n’est pas très clair. On suppose qu’entre 1999 et 2012, les héros ne se sont pas revus, or ce n’est pas du tout le cas. L’auteure nous raconte l’histoire de Richard et Hanna sur toutes ces années, séparations (pas si longues) entre eux comprises. J’ai beaucoup aimé ce livre qui n’est pas une romance pure mais une belle histoire d’amour avec une belle HEA comme je les aime. Pas une histoire d’amour pure car les héros ont des relations amoureuses avec une autre personne à certains moments de leur vie quand ils ne sont pas ensemble, cependant, leur amour est tellement fort que malgré cela, on ne doute pas un instant qu’ils sont faits l’un pour l’autre. Les héros sont dans l’ensemble sympathiques même si à différents moments, on a envie de les secouer l’un ou l’autre à cause de leurs décisions.
L’histoire se passe entre Londres et New York (avec un petit passage par Nice). Il y a plusieurs aspects agréables dans ce livre. 1/ le contexte avec des héros qui traversent les crises et catastrophes liées aux années qui passent (notamment les attentats du 11 septembre). 2/ des thèmes purement romance (obstacles à la relation, retrouvailles, secret), ce qui fait qu’on s’y retrouve très bien dans cette histoire d’amour, 3/ Le HEA qui je le reprécise ici est vraiment magnifique.
Il y a aussi beaucoup de personnages secondaires dont une majorité très sympathiques et d’autres que les lectrices vont adorer détester. Il y a quelques scènes hots assez bien décrites mais clairement, l’auteure s’est concentrée sur la relation entre nos héros et le temps qui s’écoule. Certains pourraient dire qu’elle survole les évènements, personnellement j’ai aimé qu’elle n’en fasse pas des tonnes même dans les moments les plus dramatiques. A ce sujet, on peut dire que l’écriture est fluide et qu’une fois le livre commencé, j’ai été à fond dans l’histoire. En conclusion, c’est vraiment un livre que je conseille à toutes.
