Victoria Baskerville had been hurt in love. Badly. Although she spent her days trolling a popular online dating site, these days she wasn’t looking for love but a special kind of vengeance. The real shock to friends and family when Victoria was brutally stabbed to death in her trendy Buckhead condo, was all the degenerate “love matches” that came creeping out into the light.
A prominent Atlanta defense attorney turns to the unorthodox methods of Burton & Kazmaroff Detective Agency to clear one of those love matches—a sexual deviant who, like all the others, was being blackmailed by Victoria.
Jack and Mia—finally together in every sense of the word—work together to find Victoria’s real killer—whether scumbag or saint. But Mia has a personal agenda that she focuses all her paranormal abilities on—find the killer but do it without letting the scumbags who hurt Victoria off the hook.
Sounds like a plan. The only problem—can she do it before one Internet killing turns viral?
Time is drawing near for Mia's mother to marry the Chief - but his daughter is doing her best to sabotage it. Meanwhile, Mia has gotten involved with the murder of a woman who blackmails men after offering them sex with underage girls. Mia is even more annoying than usual in this one. She gets a suspect firmly planted in her mind, and ignores information she should be paying more attention to. And, as usual, she gets in big trouble.
A stake out which ended with the guy dying and Jack being charged. A client wants help with an online dating service, against Jack’s and Max’s okay Mia takes it and trouble follows. The wedding of Jess and .Max, they were sure Mia would miss. Almost but the case needed to be solve first. Good plot and seeing just how trouble Mia seems to get into.
Just finished the 4 book series of Mia Kazamaroff Romantic Suspence books and what a delightful romp thru Atlanta and its suburbs it was! Great plots and super sleuthing in each one of the mysteries not to mention dangerous psychotic killers lurking around in dark places! I absolutely love Mia with her "gift" of being able to pick up emotions of other people from touching objects that have been touched by them. She can also do this by touching the person but it is less strong than touching objects. Her mother, Jess has the same gift except hers is strictly from touching the person. This ability leads her to form a private investigating firm with her friend and soon to become lover Jack, who recently left the Atlanta City Police Dept. after 15yrs of service, finishing out his last yrs as head detective. He needed out of the rat race and wanted to do his thing as a PI, being his own boss which would also allow him to indulge in his favorite pastime which was cooking. He is so good at his "hobby" that he caters to some of Atlantas' elite with dinner parties from anywhere between 6 and 50 guests. So fortunate for Mia as she can't boil water without written instructions and he just loves to cook for her! Watching their relationship blossom from friends to lovers is soo beautiful, they are basically going together for 5 whole months before they actually become physically intimate to the point of having sex, after all she is 28 and still a virgin, you can't just rush into these things! It is just so sweetly written and Jack cares for her so much that he just patiently waits until she is ready! What a man! The two of them make such a unique partnership as his is all about order, precision and planning where as she goes with her gut feelings and as he says "flies off like a loose cannon"! Inspite of these differences they make a great team and solve some really good mysteries. There is such a wonderful cast of supporting characters woven throughout the stories that make it even more delightful to follow along: there is Mia's loving, supportive mother, Jesse, who just happens to be in love with the Chief of Police, Max who was Jacks' supervisor for years; Mindy, Maxs' grown married daughter, who will stop at nothing in order to breakup the relationship between her father and Jesse; there's Ned who is a really good gay friend of Mias', he shares her love of horses and they ride together out in the country at the stables where he boards his horse and where Mia had boarded hers before he was killed by an evil person trying to kill Mia; then last but not least is Daisy a little abused Rat Terrier, that Jack rescued during a traffic stop.Daisy provides the sweet unconditional love that only an animal can provide as she is passed between Jesses' home and Mias' condo depending on the circumstances but she is loved totally by her humans and always has a warm lap or bed to curl up in so she is a happy puppy! I do hope Ms Kiernan-Lewis is planning more books in this series as they are just such great reading what with the mystery, the romance and then that little touch of the supernatural, what more could you want in a good book! Thank you so much Susan! Sincerely, Merrilyn
I love Mia Kazaroff! I'm binging on the whole series and will start #5 right away. I did the same thing with the Maggie Newberry series. The author is great at creating strong women characters and Mia is certainly one of them. Although not always realistic, maybe too many coincidences, you overlook them to cheer on the protagonists as they stumble into solving the mysteries.
The supporting characters in this series are great as well, from Jack, who loves Mia with a passion and many times saves the day, Jess, Mia's mom, who also has the "gift" of reading people by touch, Chief Maxwell, sometimes torn between his fiancée,Jess and his daughter, crazy Mindy, who is determined to sabotage her father's marriage. One big happy family, right?!
It bothers me when I can only give a book a ho-hum review. I have given this series a chance over 4 books and the writing is just OK. The main character keeps doing the same stupid dangerous tasks and it just isn't plausible.
Will I continue reading the series? Maybe, if the books are free in Kindle Unlimited. I won't spend money on them sorry to say :(
This is the first time I have read any of Susan Kiernan-Lewis's books. She carried this series very well, and when things got nerve wracking, she brought me some laughter! I am so ready for the next series!
