Jeffrey Poston is a #1 international bestselling author of the fast-paced 5-star adventure thriller series, American Terrorist. He has also received rave reviews of his Jason Peares historical western series. Blending traditional and revisionist historical research, his westerns have been praised as "fast-moving" (Kelton) and "exciting, page-turning" (Zollinger) and "among the best writers of westerns" (Biblio.com). Jeffrey has had diverse careers in laser engineering, project management and real estate development. He lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
A great sequel to American Terrorist: Where is the Girl?. In Contagion, Carl Johnson and his crew rescues the President's daughter from the Mexican Triad and returns her home. Unfortunately, her rescue coincided with her planned release and part of an elaborate scheme to kill the president and most of the government leaders. People who were in contact with the girl suddenly become ill and fall into comas within 48 hrs - when most of Carl's force succumbs to the illness, he learns that a deadly virus had been unleashed. Carl learns that there is an antidote and fights against time to save those who have not died yet, including his team members.
In Carl's quest against the Triad in Mexico, he learns that there is also an airborne version of this virus that kills immediately upon inhalation. He has nothing to lose as he's also infected and will die soon himself.
As in Mr. Poston's first book, Contagion pulls out all the stops and is filled with non-stop action, edge of your seat suspense, and a roller coaster ride that doesn't allow you to catch your breath until the end. The author is also skilled at knowing the mechanics of how the alphabet agencies work and shares their protocols during the story. Carl Johnson was an ordinary guy who sold real estate. He was not trained as an assassin or other highly skilled killer, but he manages to be a killing machine.
Highly recommended! There is room for the series to continue as the end leaves the status of the "mastermind" open and readers learning that Carl will pursue and kill that person.
This is one of the best on the edge of your seat series I’ve read this year. This book was very well written, it is full of excitement and adventure. It is the sequel to ‘American Terrorist: Where is the Girl?’ It picks up right where it left off. You will not be disappointed by reading this series. I recommend this book (series) to everyone who like crime thrillers.
After rescuing the American president’s daughter, Carl Johnson, the American Terrorist, learns that the girl was just a pawn in a deadly game—the real objective is the assassination of President Shirley Mallory and most of her government. The shadowy figures behind this scheme include the Rain Man, a high-level American government official, and the Triad, one of Mexico’s deadliest drug cartels. Their intent is nothing less than a complete takeover of the Western Hemisphere. With help from former SEAL trainee, Special agent Nancy Palmer, and in an uneasy alliance with her boss, McGrath, Johnson is in a race against time. The plotters have a deadly virus that will kill millions and totally disrupt the world’s economy. Johnson must also enlist the help of FBI agent Lenore Cummings, a woman he’d physically tortured and humiliated after a government operation led to the death of his son, Mark. As a reward for saving her daughter, Mallory granted Johnson a presidential pardon, and his operation against the Triad has left him with enough money, he could simply fade away and live a life of luxurious exile. But, that’s not enough for the American Terrorist. Motivated by an unquenched desire for revenge, and most importantly, a sense of honor and an aversion to harming the innocent, Johnson and his team set themselves against the power of the U.S. Government, or that part of it under the Rain Man’s control, and the might of the Triad. In a race against time, with scenes of heart stopping action, Jeffrey Poston’s Contagion: American Terrorist 2 is a perfect sequel to Where’s the Girl? Fight scenes, tactical planning sessions, and one-on-one encounters are written with an astonishing degree of verisimilitude and drama. Poston knows his technical stuff, and manages to convey it without giving readers a boring data dump. As unlikely as the premise might seem; an ordinary real estate agent, tortured by his own government, turns into the deadliest killer imaginable, it comes across as believable. Johnson’s a killer, able to kill without hesitation—even he admits that—but, throughout he maintains his humanity. He might be a bad guy, but he knows who the good guys are, and he’s willing to put his life on the line for them. Come along for the ride of your life.
It has been a year since I read the first book in this series, but I picked right up on the story. The "American Terrorist" is the main character in this series. He is a man who I liked, while others might fear or vilify him. The "contagion" part of the plot surfaces later in this book. Next time I read this series, I want to read all the books in it, one after the other.
