Twenty years have past since Galen and the Richardson creatures, with the help of Leif Anderson, carved the Free Peoples Republic out of the Southwest Territories. Toward the end of this period Jake and his son Calen encounter a cyborg in the British Columbia territories. Gaia requests Galen go north and learn the nature of these machines. Galen selects a party from his closest friends to join him on this quest. Several of those in the party have been specifically recommended by Gaia. Along the way the lives of several in the party will be irrevocably changed to address what is to come. The way events have unfolded, the path they are on leads to the worst possible scenario for all life on the planet. Gaia calls upon one of her oldest and most powerful allies to aid her in the inevitable confrontation. Galen learns the true nature of the enemy he faces and what is at risk for all that lives on the earth. But there are still things to be thankful for and one of those is a child named Truli.
