A cursed ruler with a broken heart. An herbalist mistaken for a princess. And a ritual that demands royal blood to save a kingdom from obliteration.
Sabine, an herbalist, is friends with the sole princess, so one night to give her friend the chance to explore the town during the Blood Moon Festival, Sabine put on the princess’s silks. At midnight, the mist came with the rising of the blood moon, and with it came Vetle the Hollow King.
Undead, unforgiving, and unrelenting, Velte has come to claim the heir of the one who betrayed and cursed him and his people so that he can end the curse. The wretched wedding and ceremony will free them all, but marrying the wrong bride will doom them to dust and condemn the bride’s soul to the Beyond. His advisor swiftly spots the truth of who she is and warns her not to try to tell the king the truth again or else Vetle will destroy her in his rage. Instead, he insists that there may be another way they have yet to discover and they cannot cross back to retrieve the real heir.
Trapped within the Hollow Kingdom and on the other side of the deadly mist, Sabine must find a way to end the curse without destroying herself. And though at first she hates the dark mysterious undead king who has trapped her here, lingering touches and tiny cracks in his façade suggest there’s more than a heartless ruler intent on saving his people and finding revenge.
But time is running out as the curse itself must be removed before the Blood Moon ends in three days or else they’ll all turn to ash together.
Wicked Prince of Shadows is Book 2 in the Wicked Princes Series. A collection of standalone fantasy romance books where the villain gets the girl.
This is a dark Hades and Persephone style retelling, set in a vivid world of vicious monsters and a decaying realm. When Sabine poses as Princess Enola to cover her night of freedom, she is mistakenly kidnapped and taken to the realm of shadows in her place. Trapped by the Hollow King she tries to escape, but discovers the true danger of the land and the monsters that hunt her. Sabine is bold, feisty and witty, I absolutely loved her defiance and sass, and how she challenges Vetle. Hollow King Vetle is the ultimate shadow daddy and misunderstood villain, he is trying to save his kingdom and desperate to fix the curse, prepared to risk anything necessary. The grey scale world is easy to picture and you can see all the danger and threats they all face. Osric was the sweetest addition to the story, he is curious and innocent, and I loved his passion for drawing. This is a mesmerising world of portals, monsters, curses, sacrifice, and a high stakes mission to save the realm before it's too late.
"You aren't welcome here. So go away. Shoo" _ "Did you just tell me to shoo?"
"Already on your knees for me, darling? What a promising start to our betrothal"
"Your fate is sealed, princess. You can be a bride or a corpse"
"A cursed ruler with a broken heart. An herbalist mistaken for a princess. And a ritual that demands royal blood to save a kingdom from obliteration." †******** I was hooked from the beginning. We immediately had a fierce FMC. Full of sass and banter. chapter 1 except *****His brow furrowed, and he looked at me as if I’d grown a second head. “Did you just tell me to shoo?” "Shoo.” I said it again louder and picked up the carafe with my right hand. I could kill a plague rat or a spine beetle with a palm rock at thirty paces. He pointed one clawed hand at me. “Woman, do not—” I flung the carafe at him**** ********* This story has everything! A feisty FMC. A rough on the outside, caring on the inside MMC. Portals between worlds. Monsters & Gods. Action, adventure, high stakes. You'll laugh. You'll cry. Despite being a quick and easy read, There is so much world building! It was so easy to picture this land void of color in my mind, and put myself right there beside the characters and their plight.
A story about a cursed king, a young woman mistaken for a royal princess, and a prophecy about how to end the curse told from the point of view of the strong heroine with a touch of romance and spice. Overall, an excellent happily ever after romantic fantasy with dark fairytale vibes.
I enjoyed reading this stand-alone fantasy romance story. I had no idea how the story was going to play out and for a large portion of the book I kept looking for the romance. By the end though I devoured the last quarter of it and landed on 4 stars. The main reasons why it didn't rate higher for me was due to a few instances where I wasn't sure about the connection to something I was reading, and secondly, how the relationship developed between the male and female main characters. The romance seemingly came out of nowhere and didn't feel natural to me. However, there were a great many things I did enjoy. It was easy to follow the journey of our main character even as she experienced a lot of pain and trauma from her situation, she has a strong will. The writing itself kept me engaged, and the magic and curse kept me turning pages to find out what happens. If you enjoy fairytale retellings with wicked kings in cursed kingdoms, and strong heroine who will do anything to save those she loves, I do recommend giving it a go.
rcvd an advanced reader copy from the author for voluntarily giving my review. We meet Sabine, herbalist friend to the princess who switched places for the evening. however its the blood moon and the Hollow King appears to whisk the princess away as his right for past queen who betrayed him and his kingdom. Sabine has been trying to tell the King that she isn't the princess but he isn't listening. They will wed and it will stop the curse that has plagued his people for far too long or they will all suffer. Sabine is put to work in the Queen's garden to make everything grow again...a task that is daunting but Sabine loves plants and will try her best. The more Sabine is around Velte, the Hollow King, she sees more to his facade and is determined to help break the curse. there is more to the curse than what anyone knows and Sabines stubbornness will either be the death of her or the savior of the Hollow Kingdom.
What a great second book in the Wicked Princes series! Jessica Butler has brought to life a wonderful love story that I didn’t know what to expect.. Wicked Prince of Shadows brought Hades and Persephone vibes, along with secret identities, curses that needed to be broken, and an unlikely romance between two very different MCs. I love books where the villain gets the girl, while turning out to not be as villainous as originally thought. I loved the vibes the story brought and the overall storyline is on point.
Sabine is an FMC who is smart, sassy, and fierce. Befriending the princess, she agrees to let the princess live a normal life every now and again. She enjoys being able to give the princess this time of normalcy, but never thought it would result in her being kidnapped by the Hollow King. Butler did the retelling of numerous myths and fairytales so well in this book that it was impossible to put down.
Vetle, or the Hollow King, has met his match with Sabine. Mistaking her for a princess who can break the curse on his kingdom and people, he soon finds himself letting walls down around her and letting the real him show. As he opens up to Sabine, it is evident he is not the monster people think him to be and there is much more than meets the eye.
Everything in this book is spectacular. The romance is full of tension and yearning, as the two MCs get to know each other. The world building is on point. It was easy to picture everything Jessica was describing as her attention to detail paints the image flawlessly. And the twists and turns that take place, kept me on my toes trying to determine what was going to happen next.
This series, so far, has been imaginative, beautiful, creative, and breathtaking. Being familiar with previous works of all the authors, I know the upcoming books will be amazing. I am so excited to see what the future stories hold and what else is in store for our Wicked Princes.
As always, review any author notes before reading.
What to Expect: 🖤Forbidden Love 👑Enemies to Lovers 🖤Unavoidable Proximity 👑Mistaken Identity 🖤Cursed Lands 👑Villain gets the Girl
* Vibes: Hades & Persephone, Beauty and the Beast, ACOTAR, kind of a reverse Goose Girl, all with an actual plot that surprised me multiple times
* The heroine, Sabine, actively tries to escape, multiple times, in the beginning during the “enemies” part of enemies to lovers. She actually does stuff! I know this sounds patronizing, but I’m really glad she was written this way.
* Action-packed and some gore and injury detail (it grossed me out, but I’m easily squeamish)
* Some action scenes go for multiple chapters, sort of like Dragon Ball Z
* A little too many action scenes for me personally, but I’m sure a lot of people will feel differently.
* Sabine is shown as smart, not just told, figuring out how things are working (all I can say without minor spoilers)
* Good transition from (thinking they are) enemies to lovers, makes sense with plot, with the slowly revealing information, and with character arcs
* Could have used a little more dialogue, banter, relationship-building, but the dialogue when they admit their feelings is really beautiful and deep
* Love interest has claws (talons) and shadowy floating eels that are sometimes corporal sometimes not — ew-ew-ewww — but the cover makes him look like a cross between Cassian from ACOTAR and Jack Skellington
* There’s one spicy scene that non-romance readers may find spicy but regular romance readers might be like, oh, okay, not bad
* The book actually got into my emotions, unexpected but great
* A very subjective four stars, the plot twists were unexpected; the world-building deepened and then everything made sense during the climax; there wasn’t miscommunication or withholding information that broke the love in the third act, always a good thing; loved the characters.
* It’s book candy, but book candy made with fresh, nature ingredients so you feel better about it
* I received an ebook ARC, which likely enhanced my enjoyment by not having to buy it. But it’s still solid reading material, especially if you’re seeking something with a little depth in romantasy
Wicked Prince of Shadows is book 2 in the Wicked Princes series and is a standalone that may be read on its own.
A cursed ruler with a broken heart.
An herbalist mistakened for a princess.
And a ritual that demands royal blood to save a kingdom from obliteration...
Sabine is an herbalist who has become friends with the princess. Sometimes, she swaps places with her friend so that she may experience life as a normal person, away from her royal duties.... and she does just that on the night of the Blood Moon Festival, so her friend can escape to go explore the village...
And at midnight, when the fog rolls in, she meets the one known as the Hollow King. I went into this book utterly blind and not knowing what to expect, but I have to say, I was blown away. I adore the myths of Hades and Persephone, and I adore when I can read creative retellings of these myths. Jessica has not only incorporated the myth of Hades and Persephone into Wicked Prince of Shadows, but she has also effortlessly blended in elements of Beauty and the Beast in... with her own deliciously shadowed twist. To see the way this blossomed from a tale of attempted escape from a fate that Sabine did not want, to something else entirely.... mixed with tales of battling monsters and other shenanigans...This is beautifully written, and something I thoroughly enjoyed.

This is another dark romantic fantasy book in the Wicked Princes series, and in this book we encounter Vetle, the Hollow King of the Withering Lands, who has been cursed to live in a land with no colours but grey and black, and to be forced to battle monsters whenever they came out of the chasm. Vetle had to find a royal to wed on the blood moon night when a portal opened, however when he took the chance, he took another by mistake. Sabine was a commoner, but was also the best friend of the princess of her realm, and every so often she traded places in order to give the princess the liberty to enjoy the festivals freely. It was on such a night that Vetle took Sabine through the portal to his own witheringlands believing she was the princess and heir to the one who had cursed him. Sabine tried to tell him, but he would not believe her, however what he did not bargain for was Sabine's stubborn and feisty nature, she was relentless, and once she started to see his good side these traits became more obvious. Sabine vowed she would save her beloved, Osric the young boy who had also stolen her heart, and the poor people who suffered relentlessly for so long. This is an amazing book set in a dark and dreary realm, with a courageous heroine who stole the cold dead heart of the Hollow King. It is also the story of a couple of Eidons who had been separated from one another and it is their struggle to be together again which had caused the witheringlands. This is a story of great love between the two couples.
A Dark and Spellbinding Hades & Persephone Retelling
I was given an advance reader copy of Wicked Prince of Shadows by Jessica M. Butler, and I’m so glad I had the chance to dive into this vivid, haunting world.
This is a dark Hades and Persephone-style retelling set in a decaying realm filled with vicious monsters, crumbling magic, and a king willing to risk everything to save his people. The atmosphere is rich and immersive — beautifully bleak in the best way.
Sabine is bold, feisty, and witty — her sass and defiance are an absolute highlight. I loved how she challenges Vetle at every turn, refusing to be intimidated or silenced. Hollow King Vetle, our deliciously tormented “shadow daddy,” is the perfect misunderstood villain: powerful, desperate, and quietly unraveling as he fights against the curse that threatens his realm.
I would have loved just a bit more dialogue and banter between Sabine and Vetle — a little more room to let their chemistry breathe — but when the emotional walls finally come down, their confessions are beautifully written and deeply affecting.
If you love morally gray characters, lush dark fantasy, and stories where danger and desire walk hand in hand, this one is absolutely worth reading. A strong start that leaves you craving more from this shadowy world.
Mistaken identity, a lifeless realm and a Shadow Daddy…mix in some Hades and Persephone vibes and you’ve got Wicked Prince of Shadows.
Sabine is a gardener, not a princess. Normally she wouldn’t have to make that distinction, but she’s just been kidnapped by the Hollow King and stole away to his world. He is convinced she is the daughter of an ancient Queen, thus able to break the curse on his land, so it’s an important issue to clear up.
Vetle’s world is colourless, draining the life of all who live in it. It is filled with horrific beasts and a chasm that is gradually destroying the land. Sabine is resourceful and determined to escape the fate that awaits her - marriage to the terrifying King of the realm to save his people. But the longer she stays in his land, the more she begins to question what she has been always been told about the Hollow King…
This was such an evocative read. Like Persephone being dragged to the Underworld, we follow Sabine into the Witheringlands to be confronted with blacks, charcoals and white. It is a story of seeing beyond appearances, of facing your fears and fighting for love.
It comes with an age gap shadow magic, forced proximity and opposites attract. It is a slow burn romance with the door open *just* enough to see what’s going on. I would absolutely recommend this to fans of fantasy romance
This was a very unique and interesting Hades and Persephone-ish dark romantasy retelling set in a realm with vicious monsters and nasty creatures in a world where the vibrancy of life and matter has been literally leeched out by an unknown force. Only the fulfillment of a prophecy can save the remaining people who are barely holding on in this realm that was deliberately cursed to save another. Wrong place wrong time, finds our FMC Sabine kidnapped by the Hollow King who will stop at nothing to save his people, even if it kills her (literally). There is never a dull moment in this story, as Sabine begins to care for the people in this world while they are constantly fighting for their lives (hello Osric, you adorable little boy you) and also see the cracks in the King's persona. While she stays steadfast with a heart of gold, the transformation the King takes in front of our eyes as he reveals more about himself and of course can't help but fall for our feisty gorgeous FMC is such a delight. I devoured this book and really didn't want it to end. No really...some bonus epilogues please!
I loved this book because it was so different than anything I have read before. The world the author creates is so cool but deadly. I love Sabine's no nonsense attitude and trying to escape every chance she gets. Then there is Vetle, the Hollow King, who has lived with the curse on his kingdom and he will do anything for his kingdoms survival. Just remember there are two sides to every story. I would highly recommend this book and the other books in the series. Sabine swaps places with her friend Enola, the princess, on the night of the blood red moon because Enola wants to enjoy the festival but Sabine would prefer to stay away. As fate would have it, that is when the Hollow King, Vetle, comes to kidnap "the princess". The Hollow King takes her back to his kingdom, which is all shades of white, gray, and black. Sabine immediately tries to escape out her window and right into the Hollow King. After that creatures attack and Sabine becomes a thorn in Vetle's side. There is a happy ending but just when you think things are going right, there is a twist. I received this book as an ARC and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Sabine, an herbalist, agrees to pose as the princess for one night. But when an undead king arrives to claim the royal heir in a deadly ritual, she’s taken in her place. Now trapped in the Hollow Kingdom, Sabine has three nights to break a curse—or watch the world burn with her.
Sabine is a standout heroine—bold, defiant, and full of heart. Her sass and stubbornness made her a perfect match for Vetle, the brooding, cursed king who's much more than the monster he pretends to be. I loved their banter, the emotional tension, and the quiet, vulnerable moments that gradually chipped away at their walls. Their chemistry? Pure chef’s kiss.
The world-building is rich and atmospheric, with a gothic, almost fairytale quality that adds to the magic of the story. And the pacing kept the tension high without rushing the emotional development—which I really appreciated.
Thank you Jessica M. Butler for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I highly recommend diving into this world—you’ll be hooked from the first page.
Wicked Prince of Shadows is a darkly enchanting tale that draws inspiration from the myth of Hades and Persephone, but make no mistake, this isn’t your typical retelling. Jessica M. Butler takes the familiar and reshapes it into something entirely her own: rich, moody, and beautifully atmospheric.
It’s not easy to paint a world made up entirely of black, white, and shades of grey, but Butler does it masterfully. Her prose brings color and emotion to a shadowed world, pulling you in until you can almost feel the chill of the darkness and the flicker of light trying to break through.
The characters are layered and complex, each one revealing their secrets and scars slowly over time. The pacing feels deliberate, allowing the tension, both romantic and emotional, to build naturally.
This book is haunting, imaginative, and deeply human in all the best ways. If you love myth-inspired fantasy that explores love, loss, and the light that can be found in darkness, I highly recommend it.
Vetle and Sabine were a pair that were never meant to meet technically. He wanted Enola, the princess and descendent of the woman who cursed him and his kingdom, but ended up with Sabine her best friend.
This book had my heart in a chokehold especially towards the end. I had a feeling one of them would try something stupid but reading what happened compared to thinking about it was completely different.
Osric was so sweet and I loved how he was there for Sabine and helping her. I felt for him because no child should have to go through what he did.
I loved watching Vetle go from grumpy king who cared for basically no one to caring about Sabine and what happened to her. While she wasn’t what he wanted she was what he needed in the end.
Overall I loved this book! I didn’t want it to end I loved the characters so much. I read this book as an arc.
In a case of mistaken identity Sabine a herbalist is kidnapped by the Hollow King. She is taking through a portal and held prisoner in the Witheringlands to try and end a curse placed upon his kingdom.
I really enjoyed this book from the start, it kept my interest throughout and was full of action packed fighting scenes with magical creatures.
I enjoyed the slow burn, enemies to lovers romance with Sabine & the king. Sabine was such a strong FMC. I loved her strength and determination. King Vetle was a great MMC too. I loved how his character developed as the story progressed.
The world building was done really well and I could really visualise what the Witheringlands looked like which I loved.
Overall I rate this 4.5 stars (rounded up to 5 for Amazon & Goodreads). The only thing that kept it from a full 5 stars for me was I was slightly confused by the creation of the Witherlands and the eidons. Otherwise I absolutely loved it.
Okay so this felt so right going into Halloween because it had such a spooky underworld kind of vibe. Made me think of my favorite beauty and the beast retelling where she gave her 🩸for the plants to grow. You also get Hades and Persephone details throughout.
Lots of details, high action and incredibly fast paced. Great secondary characters that draw you into the overall world and make you feel for the cursed kingdom. Osric was such a pure sweet character I loved him immediately. Would love to see him again covered in color and living his fullest life with his found family.
A m/f romantic fantasy with captured brides, curses, plant magic, battles for survival, monsters, and redemption vs revenge.
One point of view told in first person.
Main couple -
King Vetle - aka the Hollow King Sabine - human with plant magic
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Review of Wicked Prince of Shadows by Jessica Butler
The sense of longing and loneliness broke me several times. It was hard to put the book down once I started it. There was so much mystery, thrills and action and combined with the soft love story of the FMC and MMC made it a great story.
My favorite character was Osric; his sense of innocence and vulnerability made his character endearing. I loved his immediate acceptance of Sabine and their bond.
@jessicambutlerauthor did such a great job of building the Wastinglands and character development, it was hard not to fear, cheer and smile at every character growth.
Tagline should be: two broken hearts find and heal each other. 🥰
Tropes: 🥀Forbidden Love 🥀Enemies to Lovers 🥀Slow Burn Romance 🥀Forced Proximity 🥀Mistaken Identity 🥀Running Out of Time 🥀Touch Her and Die
One evening, Sabine took the princess’ place to allow her to enjoy a festival, but she’s then mistaken as the true princess by the Hollow King and is kidnapped and taken away by him to his kingdom to become his bride or die. Now, she has to try and escape.
I really enjoyed this one. Definitely giving Beauty and the Beast vibes with a twist and more gothic and darker.
A bit fast-paced, especially with the romance, but I really enjoyed Sabine’s journey through this story. Here she is trying to keep a secret while also telling everyone because she doesn’t want to die, and with no one believing her, and now she has to try and prove she’s not who they think she is, it was quite an adventure, and it had some moments that made me laugh, and despite the romance being fast, I really liked them together, they were sweet once they got to that point, and I think good for each other.
It’s like the romance was a slow burn, until it suddenly wasn’t. But I liked when they finally addressed their feelings and although I found it sudden, again, I really liked them together.
I thought the world was interesting too, and would love to read more in it!
Thank you to the author for the e-ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book is based on the Hades and Persephone retelling. Sabine is kidnapped by the Hollow King and dragged into the Hollow Kingdom, a place drained of all color. The twist? She wasn’t even supposed to be the one taken, her friend Princess Enola was.
Sabine is sassy, determined, and never afraid to speak her mind. That shows up as soon as she starts talking back to King Vetle. She tries everything in her power to escape, but once she meets the people living under the kingdom’s curse, especially the Kids, she realizes she truly wants to help them.
Vetle is the ultimate Shadow Daddy. He is dark, brooding, and very protective of the people he loves. Though he tells himself that he’s the monster of the story, his actions actually tell a different story. He is caring, loyal, and devoted to saving his people.
Overall, I really loved reading their story, and I was glued from the first page to the last.
Honestly, really enjoyed this one. This book gives Beauty and The Beast and Hades and Persephone vibes with a dark side, like if it were also a Halloween Monster horror. Keeping it vague to not give anything away, but I adore being able to see the character's true personalities bleed through long before they're able to verbalize it or purposely show who they truly are. The twist at the end, *chef's kiss*. If there were a book 2, I'd read it.
You can expect:
*kidnapping *(misinterpreted/ misinformed) enemies to lovers *forced proximity *mirror worlds *touch him or her and die *great world building *loveable, empathetic characters *mistaken identity *strong friendships *magic *shadow daddy *an intricate curse, festivals, and gods, oh my!
I enjoyed this book quite a bit. The main character, Sabine, refused to give up, no matter how much she was dealt. Her captor turned love interest, Vetle (fantastic name, BTW) was so full of anger, yet you occasionally saw a soft side peek through. This book, a stand-alone part of the Wicked Princes series, had so many elements to it - Enemies to Lovers, Mistaken Identity, curses, plus finding out the villain isn't all bad after all. This book feels like a Beauty and the Beast/ Hades and Persephone mix, without hitting you right in the face with it. Sabine is the (non)princess every fairy tale needs. One who won't just settle for things the way they are, just because someone said so. I am looking forward to reading more of the books in this series.
High-fantasy at its finest. An adventure from beginning to end. Such a beautiful, fantastical story of enemies becoming lovers. The Hollow King and Sabine were the perfect match for each other. I enjoyed watching their love unravel and grow into something unbreakable. The complexities of growth in characters shone throughout the story as the daring rescue of the people of the Witheringlands took place. The creatures and environment were described exceptionally. Several times I found my heart racing as Sabine ran and fought for her life against the Chitter Hounds and the Behemoth. I was moved to tears by the end of the book, sitting on the edge of my seat hoping that all ends well. Without a doubt, this is one of the BEST fantasy books I've read this month.
This story impressed me. It has real Hades/Persephone vibes and I was there for it! There were moments it sounded like beautiful poetry. Enemies to lovers have always been my favorite trope. The Hollow King has a reputation so when Sabine gets mistaken and dragged thru the portal no one is happy. There is always more to the story though and its not as it seems. Vetle is trying to save his people at all cost. All because of a curse. I enjoyed their interactions. I also loved how it was a "found family" when a little boy pulls at her heartstrings. I truly enjoyed this book and i can say its definitely my favorite "Wicked Prince" book. I highly recommend it.
Book 2 in the Wicked Princes multi-author collection
A true enemies to lovers fantasy romance centered around breaking a centuries-old curse and restoring a kingdom, but at what cost.
I truly enjoyed all the elements of this book: mistaken identity, forced proximity, stolen bride, sheer determination, sacrificial love, and so much more. The witty banter and slow burn chemistry created the perfect couple within a cursed setting lacking all manner of color. Loved the overall storyline and emotional conclusion.
all Sabine a herbalist wants is to let her friend the princess have a good time during The Blood Moon festival so she takes her identity for the night. but things get complicated when the dark mist brings Vetle the Hollow King and he takes her thinking she is the real Princess to break his curse of ruling the Shadows. she tries to tell him that she isn't the princess but he doesn't believe her and instead binds Sabine to him. now he has to find another way to break his curse while falling for the woman he took and not destroying everything around them.
Book two in the wicked prince series and it is fantastic! The hollow king rises with the blood moon and takes the wrong princess back to the hollow kingdom with him in the hopes of breaking the curse. Our fmc Sabine was just taking the place of the real princess for one night and has her world turned upside and now she is trapped with no idea what to do. It’s a dark and exciting read and the world building is simply beautiful and so descriptive, it’s well paced and action filled and has its hooks in you from the very start. So so good!
I am very appreciative of Jessica M. Butler and their team for the opportunity to read an e-ARC of Wicked Prince of Shadows!
This was such a fun, fast paced read! I read it all in one sitting! I enjoyed learning about the magic system and the differences in the lands. I also liked seeing how Sabine and Vetle’s relationship evolved.
Their care and protection of each other was so powerful: the way that Vetle refused to consider any plan that put Sabine in danger. And Osric was such a sweet addition to the story!!
Like, how the devil did Enola get there to save the day? And why did she listen to a scarred little fae urchin? And how does she have enough power to command the army? Also, the bad stuff was just SO MUCH. Each conflict just got worse... And worse... AND WORSE...and every time you thought it couldn't POSSIBLY get any worse, it would! Seriously painful to read. But such a good story. And so sexy. With the shadows, I can't help thinking of Clare Sager's Tenebris trilogy that finished recently.
