Serafina, a half-Fae warrior and the last descendant of the human Helias family, is thrust into the spotlight as princess and heir of the South. She is ordered to find a husband as soon as possible. Plagued with strange illness, and chafing against the new restrictions she struggles to be accepted by her grandfather for who she is. Free from his shackles to the Court of Dusk, Tristan must now figure out who he is and what lines he is willing to cross to fix his mating bond with Serafina and get her back. Can Tristan break the dark spell on Serafina? Or will she marry someone else and be lost to him forever?
Who can resist warrior princesses! The story had excellent pacing and I like how this installment delved deeper into what it means to be half human/half fae. I also maybe found myself hoping every one of the kings fits would be his last 😳🫠 I just can’t stand the hot/cold entitled way he treats Seraphina. Also a super cute touch I loved was all the little illustrations throughout. And of course the spice 🔥Now on to the last book and seeing the prophecy fulfilled! Thanks to netgallley the author and the publisher for the arc!
I want to start by saying that I enjoyed this book/ ARC. I thought it was a great continuation of the series and cannot wait for the closing installment. It's a roller coaster, but in the best way possible.
Serafina, our fmc, is everything I want in a heroine. She is still the kind, strong, stubborn, and courageous warrior-princess. I love that we get to see more of the vulnerable side of her in this book than in book 1. She is determined to find her place among the fae and humans to unite them both. She is continuously growing in this book, and there are moments where my heart breaks for her. Tristan, the loyal and determined shapeshifter, tries to balance courting Serafina while also staying true to himself and maintaining his duty in his court to protect them both from dangers that lie ahead.
The book's pacing was great. The slow-burning and yearning from both our main characters were exactly what this new book needed. The brewing tension between Serafina and Tristian was perfect throughout the entire book. It's a slow, push-and-pull between maintaining loyalty to duty and forbidden love.
While the romance was a nice slow burn, the plot was filled with action that kept the story moving quickly. With Serafina and her illness, a need to fulfill her duty to find a husband, fight off the dark magic, and fulfill the prophecy. The stakes were high as they raced against the clock.
That said, I wish there could’ve been more romance and less of what seemed like lust between the two lead characters. I hope to see their relationship develop even more in the final installment. I am also excited to learn more about this prophecy. There were a couple of plot holes here and there, but I am hopeful that my questions will be answered in the final book. Without giving anything away, there was a moment in the story where I think we moved past too quickly, where some of the traumatic moments that Serafina went through were like they never happened. I understand people cope in different ways, but I wanted to hear more from Serafina in that moment. I wish I had understood how she was feeling more clearly. Maybe some internal dialogue would’ve helped. I feel as though the scene started and abruptly ended.
Overall, I enjoyed the ARC I received. I’m truly grateful for this opportunity, and I’m excited to see where the story goes and how Serafina and Tristan navigate the roles that they are thrust into. I would like to thank E.R. Jensen, Netgally, and Gryphon Publishing. This is my honest review of Heir of Blood: The Lost Fae Queen Trilogy.
Heir of Blood had a lot of potential — the premise is strong, the world has promise, and there are flashes of depth in the main characters. Unfortunately, the execution didn’t quite live up to what it could have been.
⚠️ Trigger Warning: There’s a miscarriage in the story that felt brushed over too quickly. It’s a heavy topic that deserved more emotional weight and time for the character to process, but instead it’s moved past almost immediately. Readers sensitive to that theme might want to be aware.
I liked the core idea of a half-Fae heroine dealing with duty, lost memories, and politics. There were moments where Serafina’s strength and vulnerability could have really shone, but they didn’t quite reach their full potential. The romance has tension and promise, but it sometimes felt rushed or overshadowed by uneven pacing and repetitive internal dialogue. It also felt like the author was trying to include every possible romance trope — enemies to lovers, forbidden love, fated mates, arranged marriage, secret illness — which made the story feel overcrowded at times instead of focused.
The biggest issue for me was the editing. There are quite a few spelling and grammar errors throughout, and they pulled me out of the story more than once. Combined with some slow sections and underdeveloped side characters, it left the book feeling a bit unpolished.
Overall, Heir of Blood isn’t a bad read — it has heart and an interesting foundation — but it needed tighter editing, a more focused romance, and deeper emotional follow-through to really land. I might pick up the sequel if reviews suggest it improves, but this one was just okay for me.
Heir of Blood completely drew me in from the very first chapter. It’s dark, intense, and full of political intrigue, with just enough romance and danger to keep things deliciously unpredictable. E.R. Jensen has created a world that feels rich and layered, with magic, betrayal, and power plays that reminded me of some of my favorite fantasy series.
I loved how morally grey the characters were — no one is purely good or evil, and that made the story so much more compelling. The heroine especially stood out: strong, flawed, and constantly forced to make impossible choices. The tension and slow-burn dynamics between the characters were done really well, and I couldn’t stop reading to see how it all played out.
The pacing picks up as the stakes rise, and by the end I was completely hooked
If you like your fantasy filled with scheming, secrets, and strong heroines who fight back even when the odds are against them, this one’s definitely worth picking up.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley and Gryphon Publishing for an advanced reader copy of this book.
3.75 stars rounded up to 4. I enjoyed the plot of this one! Lost memories of a princess who has to step up for her kingdom, her mate trying to get her back even though she doesn’t remember him, secret identity, and political intrigue! I also liked the idea of dark magic woven in, preventing her from remembering the bond or her memories with Tristan.
I thought the pacing was done well, I liked how fierce the fmc was, and the side characters! I’m intrigued to see where this will go in the next instalment, especially after how it ended.
This story totally pulled me in from the very first chapter 🔥 It’s dark, intense, and full of political intrigue… its exactly the kind of fantasy I love.
The characters are all deliciously morally grey (no pure heroes here 😈), and the heroine really stood out — strong, flawed, and constantly forced to make impossible choices.
If you’re into fantasy filled with scheming, secrets, and fierce women who fight back no matter the odds 💪✨ this one’s definitely worth picking up.
Thank you to NetGalley & Gryphon Publishing for the eARC!
Forget sleep—I devoured Heir of Blood like it was a midnight snack I couldn’t put down! Serafina is fierce, Tristan is swoony (even when he’s a mess), and the twists had me gasping out loud. This book is all the delicious drama of fae courts, forbidden bonds, and romance you want wrapped up in one wild ride. If you love your fantasy with magic, mayhem, and a couple who makes you scream “just kiss already!”—trust me, this is your next obsession. 🔥✨
Heir of Blood is a romantasy that kept me hooked with its mix of courtly drama, dangerous magic, and the fragile hope of love. Serafina’s struggle to balance her duty as heir with her own identity felt so real, and Tristan’s desperate attempt to mend their broken bond added just the right amount of tension. I especially enjoyed how the story gave me both high-stakes political intrigue and an emotional romance to root for—it felt like I was reading two gripping stories woven seamlessly into one.
Serafina And Tristan are great. Their story is so intense and full of wonder. I love the world around them and their relationship is just developing more and more.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Fae, Flames & All the Feels Heir of Blood had me yelling at the pages, swooning over Tristan, and fist-pumping for Serafina’s fire—this book is pure romantasy chaos in the best way.
