“Quake thee with thy tyrant’s gift. Soulless flesh bars paths you seek. Blossom wide the heart of stone. Starbreaker awaken what lies beneath.”
—Prophecy of Aion Origin
The Blood Now Calls To Sylvas
The unimaginable has happened. Sylvas has taken in War, Blood, and Strife and bound it to his heart. A feat that has seen the Empyrean Alliance plucking him from the comforts of the Ardent and pulling back the veil that once masked everything. Now, for the first time ever, Sylvas can see his place in the galaxy, standing between the threats that seek to unmake it.
Writing far faster than his hands can withstand, Luke Chmilenko hails from the Great White North where he lives with his wife and two daughters. Toiling endlessly Luke juggles his time between a rapidly growing catalogue of series while playing far more video games than he would ever openly admit.

There was plenty to enjoy here, Sylvas getting info on the eidolon in his core and how that whole thing will work going forward. A bit of space adventuring, and a potential new romantic interest. Also we get to see the whole prophecy thing moving forward, which is interesting to see exactly where things are going. But man, Mira really just drags the whole thing down for me. I don't care for her ability to just override Sylvas any time she wants and act outside his knowledge. The dynamic is weird, and i personally think it the story would work better without her.
I really love stories where the main character or the party starts learning more and more about magic systems, the intricacies of the world, uncovering mysteries. That is the main point of why I like this genre, however, in this novel, and at least the last installment, the split personality is getting to be quite annoying. It makes me cringe every time I read those interactions and makes me want to put down the book despite my enjoyment of all the other parts.
I think I will still continue this series, but I sincerely hope that these interactions get to be considerably less cringe because I understand the value of it, and if this is the author’s intention, he is accomplishing it. However, there is a limit, and I am slowly approaching mine.
The prophecy unfolds…killer “hunter” aliens…love?!? The story keeps unfolding! Where will it go next?! Another great book in a budding series!! Keep writing and I’ll keep reading!!!
The beginning of the book was so bad that I almost gave up (he's just blowing up a bunch of rocks by himself and is real salty about it, goes on for ages), but luckily when the other characters came in I started enjoying it like usual. Let's never go through a maze again.
