Our world has a rip.
A rip through space itself.

Finally old enough to attend the prestigious Luenn Academy in Cambridge, Indigo is excited to fulfil her lifelong dream of becoming a guardian of the Rip, just like her mother before her.

But making friends when everyone seems to have a hidden agenda is harder than she expected, especially when it comes to her frustratingly handsome training partner, Kriger.

Thrust into a world of corruption, deadly games, and broken trust, her dream begins to unravel before her eyes, and Indigo is left wondering whether she will make it out alive.

Thank you to the author and Cranthorpe Miller for my early copy, here is my honest review.

Do I want to read a YA sci-fi fantasy about a rip through space where they can reach other worlds? - sign me up immediately! What an amazing debut by this author, I raced through this book as the storyline was fantastic and had me engaged from the very first line. I was intrigued and amused and the pace kept me like this throughout the whole book. I loved the characters and just couldn't get enough, everyone was just that little bit unknown so it kept the tension simmering away as we wound through the unfolding events. It was a funny, quirky story with an extremely likeable and capable FMC and I'm eagerly waiting for more from this author.

Indigo is a little different being of mixed heritage from Earth and Evig, it has given her strength and speed with a touch of telekinesis but it's also made her a target for those with no powers. She's hoping that will all change with her starting at Luenn Academy, a training facility for those who want to be guardians of the Rip, the tear between worlds, as she hopes to follow in the footsteps of her mum.

There's tension in the air and it isn't easy to work out who can be trusted, especially when she's surrounded by people with unknown powers and abilities. Her training partner Kriger is madly frustrating and it doesn't help that she feels a growing attraction towards him. Events take an unexpected turn when a tutor falls from a balcony in very suspicious circumstances and training exercises stumble across smuggled goods. All hinting at corruption and treachery. Can she unravel the details or will she be caught up in the web of deceit.

I had such a good time with The Rip’s Mark. It’s fast, tense, and throws you straight into the chaos in the best possible way. The whole idea of the Rip and the academy is so fun and weird and dangerous that I was hooked almost immediately. There’s this underlying sense of “something huge is coming” that kept me flipping pages way too late.

Indigo is a great lead, and very easy to root for. Even though I sometimes wished the story slowed down long enough for me to sit properly with her feelings, I was still completely invested. The pace is wild, but honestly, that’s half the fun.

I liked her dynamic with Kriger too. The chemistry is definitely there, even if I wanted a little more time for it to grow. Give me a few extra moments of tension and it would’ve been perfect.

The worldbuilding could’ve been fleshed out a bit more, sure, but the sheer energy and mystery of everything pulled me through. I never once felt bored, and I absolutely flew through the book!

Overall, it’s a punchy, gripping, high-stakes ride, and I really enjoyed it. Even with a few rough edges, it’s the kind of book that leaves you excited to see where the series goes next.

Thank you so much to R.S.K. Archer, and Cranthorpe Millner for the review copy!!

ARC Review for ‘ The Rip’s Mark’ by RSK Archer.

It’s veen a long while since I have read YA, so I had to switch my brain from adult mode reading into teen🤣
But I have to say, I actually liked this book!
It reads very easy, and I could see this totally relating to the younger book lovers.
It deals with special powers, other worlds, travel to other worlds, betrayal, real friendships, and young love interests.

We follow Indigo, who is set the become a guardian meant to go to other worlds, in which she first has to attend a special university.
She has abilities which she has to hone in further on and develop.
Kriger is on her team and they form a slow bond over time.
The side characters are nicely written too, and it is lovely to see how those bonds solidify into tight friendships.
No 🌶️ since it is Ya.

The storyline flows nice, and is exciting describing other worlds, again, easy to follow for our younger readers who like sci-fi/ fantasy reads.

A great debut for this author

I loved the plot of this, the connections between the characters are well thought out, what each character did or didn't do to add to the plot was well thought out. Told from the POV of Indigo, we get the character arcs based on how she sees them, this has its advantages of course, but it also meant some of the main players in the plot didn't get enough development or explanation as to why they betrayed other characters.

The pacing was really good, the plot was moved along nicely, the reveals and the events are logical as to when they happened and why. This story has a really good basis, but I think there is more needed to add to the areas that are lacking like the characters that didn't get enough air time. I really enjoyed the prose, the dialogue and the general writing style of the author.

I enjoyed the world building, the travelling through the worlds and the magic system had a really interesting premise. The ending has left it open for another one, which I would read if there is a second, and hopefully the author addresses some of the bits that were lacking, and expands on the world and the magic system.

In The Rip's Mark, we follow Indigo, who can't wait to attend Luenn Academy in Cambridge, where she'll learn to become a Guardian of the Rip ( a rip in the very fabric of space itself ), an absolute lifelong ambition. But life at the academy is not as dreamlike as Indigo thought, and it's not long before she's caught up in a web of lies, corruption and deceipt.

So all in all, a brilliant young adult sci-fi novel that I flew through in two sittings.

The pace is just right, flowing along nicely and the characters are believable and feel real.

Absolutely devoured this in one day! At just 220 pages, The Rip’s Mark is a fast-paced YA fantasy packed with action, mystery, and a touch of romance. Indigo’s journey through the prestigious Luenn Academy is full of danger, secrets, and twists that keep you turning pages.

Very quickly, Indigo is thrown into a world of corruption, deadly games, and broken trust, and the glossy image of the academy she admired begins to fall apart. What starts as a dream becomes a fight for survival, and you can’t help but root for her every step of the way.

Perfect for fans of: YA fantasy, academy settings, fierce heroines, and sci-fi/fantasy blends.
