"I am as I have always been- Fanny Talbott, aunt, sister, and friend to many who love me and whom I love, an unmarried spinster, no beauty, but no antidote either." The story of FANNY embodies the saying 'Love Is Blind.'

At the age of sixteen young Fanny fell hopelessly in love with Jack Fairfield, her cousin Sarah's betrothed. She loved Sarah dearly and kept her feelings to herself. Fast forward NINETEEN YEARS LATER and her love still burns for the man except now Sarah has passed away. Jack's children need a mother and, in Jack's line of vision, Fanny looks better than ever.

This clean romance concerned Fanny and her very different feelings for two gentlemen. Roger had been Fanny's close friend and neighbor since childhood. Over the years, he was always there to listen and support her. In turn, Fanny was available to him whenever he needed her comfort and approval.

I enjoyed Ms. Clark's easygoing, though at times dense, heroine and her very tense 'friend'. Poor Roger; he was always sure of himself but not when it came to Fanny. No wonder he was in such a coil.

The issue of nineteen years passing by before Fanny finally realized what was always in front of her was somewhat hard to digest. Honestly, Roger's forthcoming attitude made for the better part of the story. I liked his character. Oh, and the ending was very entertaining.

This was a darling book but I kept thinking about one Heyer wrote which was so similar. I'm going to have to go back and reread hers and then see if they were as alike as I remember. Will have to take into consideration there are only so many plots.
