Andrea Laurence has been a lover of reading and writing stories since she learned to read at a young age. She always dreamed of seeing her work in print and is thrilled to finally be able to share her special blend of sensuality and dry, sarcastic humor with the world. A dedicated West Coast girl transplanted into the Deep South, she's working on her own "happily ever after" with her new husband and a golden retriever puppy.
A reunion romance will suck me in every time. This is the story of Annie the Barracuda, a seemingly cold, unemotional professional poker player, and Nate, a Casino owner in Las Vegas who has been working hard to rebuild his families legacy after a bad run.
Three years ago, these two met and fell hard. Nate, terrified of losing her, married her out of hand, as you can do in Las Vegas. Annie comes from a long line of commitment phobic women and when Nate squeezes tight, she runs.
Now he'll give her the divorce she wants, but at a price. In the final step to secure his casino's future, he needs to break a cheating ring operating at a major poker tournament. If he can do that, the contract for future tournaments will be his.
The key to that is Annie, who can be his insider while taking up where she left as his wife. Blackmail is an ugly word but certainly Nate is offering a deal Annie is compelled to agree to, despite misgivings.
This is an interesting look at the operations of a casino in the middle of one of those big tournaments most people only see on television. But it is Nate and Annie's relationship that dominates. Their physical reactions to each other are only a preliminary to what happens when they spend time with each other.
But life is more complicated and with bad guys intend on getting the big bucks, Annie's sister suspiciously involved, it's going to take more than hot smex and second chances to get to this Happy Ever After.
This was an enjoyable read with just a touch of angst to go with some bad guy action. Keeps you interested and engaged, especially the second part when things start speeding up. Sizzle is what you would expect from a Desire but quite tastefully done.
What an enjoyable read. A second chance romance set against Vegas and the professional Poker circuit-oh, the worlds we enter when we open a book! I cheered and jeered for this couple along the way-I was a little fuzzy on the issue of fidelity during the three year separation. I felt we could have used a bit more detail on those years.
That aside, you do find yourself hoping our heroine overcomes her upbringing and outgrows her nomadic/gypsy existence. Why? 'Cause this hero truly LOVES this woman. He's torn. He's hurt. He's in love. It was good to see her don her big girl panties towards the end. Jeez! What's a man gotta do??
As for the who's cheating (in the Poker tournaments) part...well, yes, it is pretty obvious but the author still manages to have a trick up her sleeve towards the end.
HP Desire readers (and Blaze readers too, I think) will enjoy this fast romp through the world of poker players, dysfunctional families and a second chance romance.
Good book. Annie has returned to Vegas to participate in a poker tournament in Nathan's hotel. She knows that she'll have to see him again sometime. When she does, he offers to finally sign the divorce papers if she'll help him catch some cheaters that will be at the tournament. All she has to do is play the part of loving wife and watch the players she competes against. She also has to resist falling for him all over again.
Annie knew she was tempting fate by entering that tournament, but playing poker is what she does. She's been trying to get Nathan to sign the papers ever since she left him, but he hasn't cooperated. Now she discovers that he'll do anything to get back at her for leaving him. She doesn't want to be his spy, but she really doesn't have a choice if she wants him to sign those papers. One thing she worries about is the fact that the attraction between them is still white hot. She doesn't want to fall for him again, it hurt too much to leave him the last time. At that time she was at the beginning of her career and felt that he didn't respect her enough to accept her the way she was. When the feelings of being trapped got to be too much, she ran. It doesn't take long for her to realize that what she feels is more than just attraction, that her love for him had never gone away. Now she has to decide if she can overcome her fears enough to stay with him.
Nathan has been waiting for three years to get his revenge on Annie for leaving him. He has used the divorce papers to keep her tied to him until he can do so. Having the poker tournament at his casino gives him the perfect opportunity. He can blackmail her into playing his wife again at the same time he uses her to catch the people cheating at the poker tournaments. He fully intends to keep her at an emotional distance even as he tries to get her back in his bed. I loved the way his plans come back to bite him in the butt, as he discovers that his body and heart have no desire to cooperate with that plan. I loved seeing him keep an eye on her to make sure she was safe. He also realized that the problems with their marriage weren't all her fault, as he takes the time to actually get to know her outside the bedroom. I really enjoyed seeing him fall for her all over again and start thinking about a future together.
The whole poker tournament theme was very interesting. I enjoyed seeing the way that Annie played the game and how she planned her strategies. The subject of cheating was well portrayed along with the ways that casinos work to prevent it. While one of the cheaters was obvious from the beginning, there were a couple of interesting twists to the story. I loved the final showdown.
Gabe was an awesome secondary character. The animosity between him and Annie showed just how loyal a friend he was to Nathan. His cynicism regarding women in pretty blatant, so obviously he is due to meet his own match. I hope he gets his own story soon.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in place of an honest review.
Annie Baracas is known as the Barracuda in the card world. Card's is her life and she makes a great living doing it. There is only one thing in her life that she wished she could change and that is marrying Vegas casino owner Nathan Reed. She has to see him again when his casino is hosting the championship game. He knows that Annie wants a divorce and he gets her to agree to help him find the cheaters and he will give her the divorce that she has been wanting for three years.
This was a very exciting story. I have watched several of these card championships on television. I had to see how this story would end. It was exciting and I had to see how this story would end. I knew that Annie and Nathan loved each other but I didn't know how Annie would get over the curse she thought her family had about men. She was scared when she married Nathan and couldn't handle it. I enjoyed it and loved the ending. The author did a great job.
Fantastic, just fantastic. I absolutely love the whole pretend wife trope and Andrea Laurence just completely nails it. I was enticed from the first page and didn't want to put this one down for a moment.
I loved both Annie and Nate - and boy are there some steamy scenes between the pair of them! Back in Her Husband's Bed is easily one of the best romances I have read lately. I loved both the tension between Annie and Nate and the subplot surrounding their relationship.
I haven't read anything else by Andrea Laurence, but after Back in Her Husband's Bed, I certainly will be! This is one I totally recommend.
Every person has their own set of relationship demons. Be it from your parents own relationships not working out, or seeing what a in too deep relationship did to a best friend or a secret you might be hiding.
No matter the reason there is always something that to the outside world seems can easily be fixed, but until you find yourself in that person's shoes you really cannot judge.
In this read from Andrea Laurence she tells of the magical and entrancing world of Annie. Annie has what most woman want, she is famous for her card playing magic and thus makes her the ultimate barracuda to most card players, beautiful and powerful, but she is also married to the very sexy I want you forever Nate.
But their marriage is not on track as it should be, for Nate it's all roses and sunshine but for Annie it's run as fast as you can before he sucks you in too deep. You see Annie has a fear of commitment and when she married Nate it was more a spur of the moment "I am in Vegas" reaction rather then " I want to spend the rest of my life with man ".
So when it gets too much she takes off. Only Nate is not ready to let her go and holds her in place with a "never will you get a divorce" clause. Until he sees no other way and decides to let her have what she wants but at a price.
As any woman in Annie's position would she takes the deal, but as she steps back into Nate's world her emotions start flying and soon she is left between walking away again or facing her fears.
The characters in this read were so, so, so fabulous I fell in love with them both from the start of the read. Nate is this perfect to die for hero, that yes with his never divorce come blackmail attitude makes him a bit of a " I am going to hit this hero with a something very soon" character. But his intentions are good and that is what made me love him. Through this character the author showed that when we care about someone to the point of distraction we will do anything we can to prove it and to hold onto them, even it means letting them go in order to gain them back.
The character of Annie was totally amazing! I loved this woman's feisty-ness and let's face it being a barracuda in any field when your female is awesome! I did feel very sorry for her and her relationship commitment issues as most woman would want to get lost in the world of a sexy loves me with all his heart man, but as the author dug into Annnie's background it made perfect sense that she is who she is because of her past. Through this character the author showed that our fears truly do run our lives. We don't always have the courage to take that step into the unknown and playing it safe just seems better.
The backdrop settings were thrilling and so exciting ! I could hear the cards being dealt, felt the anticipation of the win and the adrenalin pumping. Not to mention the amazing action that goes down at a later stage in the book, that was so awesome it let me leap from my reading seat and yell out" Yes in there, go in there go get him! "
I am taking away a message of fear can hold us back from some of the most important things in life, but when facing it we need to try and remember that on the other side of fear there is trust. Trust can build the steps to getting to the very point where fear no longer exists, all you need to do it take that first step. If we don't then we might lose the only step that can get us up to the top where we need to be.
I highly recommend this read for all fans of romance. A thrilling, captivating, passionate reunion story that will stay with you for many years to come!
" The cards have been dealt , the question is how will she play them?"
I finished Back in Her Husband's Bed by Andrea Laurence. I do love Andrea's books and I look forward for to her releases. I did like the premise of this story, but I just didn't fall in love with the story.
You have Annie Baracas who's a professional poker player who married Nathan Reed. However, she freaked out and left. Now there's a tourney being held at his casino and he wants continue having this tourney at his casino. So, he enlists Annie's help him catch the cheats that could ruin this for him.
All right, I felt the story was alright. I liked Nathan and Annie, but they didn't really grabbed my attention. I guess I kind of wish Nathan revenge plot was little more sinister, but it wasn't. Annie's childhood kind made her a bit commit-phobic. Of course, there were other issues that plagued their marriage, which goes back to the principal of communication helps with a lot of issues.
Anyway, Back in Her Husband's Bed wasn't a bad read. It was interesting to see the poker tournament play out and see who was behind the cheating. Which kind of surprised me who was behind the plot. So, if you like reunited lovers stories, you might like Back in Her Husband's Bed.
This wasn't a very well researched book. It's against the Nevada Gaming Commission for the family member a casino owner, or an employee of a casino or his/her immediate family to gamble in a casino they own or are employed by. Huge fines and a loss of a gaming license would result if a casino owners wife played in a poker tournament in his casino. Because of this I couldn't read much past the third chapter.
Romance is never quite as good until a second chance! Ms. Laurence writes romances with such honesty and emotion that every page is a reward! The experience and excitement Annie and Nate bring to the table makes for scorching intimacy both in bed and out and catching the baddies the cherry on the cake!! Love Ms .Laurence's talent with the written word!

Lumayan jadi bacaan ringan.

Can a second chance at romance be taken advantage of when it seems both people are head over heels over each other?
This is my first read by Ms. Laurence and I have to say that I truly enjoyed it. Annie was a strong willed woman that didn’t want to be told what she could do and not do. Nathan is a powerful alpha male that needed to see through Annie’s eyes why she had to leave. I know that he was hurt, he wanted revenge but come on he was still in love with her no matter what happened that day three years ago when she walked away from their marriage. Three years is a lot of time to be away from your spouse and there was really no telling what happened but what is important is the here and now and what they planned to do with this second chance.
This is the perfect opportunity for Nathan Reed to make his wife suffer just like he did when she walked out on their marriage. Annie Baracus was the one person that could help him find the person that has been cheating at poker tournaments and he is going to wave a little carrot so she can take what he proposes. He is willing to give her the divorce if she helps him and then he can give her what she wants. She should have known that the moment that she entered into his hotel that he would be seeking her out. Annie knows what she needs to do and she will play the part of loving wife in order for him to sign the divorce papers.
Annie knows that if the poker players know that she is a spy and especially that she is wired that is the end of her career but it’s her only choice. He is not been very respective of her career choose but she don’t care any longer once this is over she will go on her marry way. Only that she never expected that all the feelings that she had when they first met that they would resurface, she doesn’t want to fall in love with him. Nathan can’t believe that after what she did to him he still has these strong feelings for her but he can’t act on them. He knows that he needs to stay away from her but her smell that Annie smell is getting to him along with her luscious curves. It seems that they are both having a hard time distancing themselves will they both just give in to their passion. Will Annie finally stay and work things out or will she flee again? When Nathan gets to know the real Annie the poker player Annie will he see that he also did something wrong when they got married? That it was just not her fault that the marriage went down the drain.
Back in Her Husbands Bed was a good read. The characters were interesting and well developed. I liked that the story was easy to follow and to relate to. The writing is clear and focused. The storyline was interesting and the pace was good. The mystery of solving who was cheating at the tournament was a little weak but it was still interesting. The chemistry between Annie and Nathan was smoking hot, passionate and just hot.
I definitely recommend this read to other readers that love a little mystery with their romance. I look forward in reading more books by this author.
Nate Reed needs his estranged wife’s help in catching a thief. Dangling signed divorce papers before Annie “Barracuda” Baracas’ face is just the ticket to get her help as well as closure for their relationship. Annie had committed the ultimate betrayal when she left Nate with no explanations shortly after their whirlwind marriage began. Now he means to have some answers and get the beauty out of his system so that he can move on. Annie had her reasons for walking away from the dynamic casino owner, but now she finds she may be tempted to linger long after the gambling is over.
Back in Her Husband’s Bed was an intriguing new tale by Ms. Laurence with a turn on the usual fare of romance offerings in the Harlequin line. Instead of the Hero having commitment issues the heroine took on that role in Back in Her Husband’s Bed, and I rather enjoyed that aspect of the story. The “to catch a thief” theme left a little to be desired, however.
Nate was a great catch for a hero with all that entails, and the flaws in Annie made their love more romantic in Back in Her Husband’s Bed. I wished that more time had been spent on their relationship dynamics though. I also wanted to know exactly what occurred during the three year estrangement/abandonment between our two leads in Back in Her Husband’s Bed. Overall, it was a decent entry in the romance reads for the month.
Nathan owns the Desert Sapphire, a luxury casino in Vegas, and is holding a Texas Hold'em Tournament partially for the money but also to gain a long term contract by once and for all eliminating the cheaters who have been scamming various tournaments. To do so, Nathan more or less blackmails his estranged wife, Annie, into spying for him. If she'll play in the tournament and ferret out the cheaters, he'll finally give her the divorce she's been asking for. But they'll have to pretend to be a devoted married couple until it's over. But before long, it isn't really pretending anymore.
This was a good read, but a very average one. I didn't really connect with any of the characters or feel their emotions very strongly. It was interesting and engaging, but not very exciting or passionate. There was almost no angst, the characters were pretty flat and I wasn't too terribly interested in the suspense part of the plot either. I also didn't buy into Annie's conflict regarding her sister, since they pretty much acted like they hated each other. I would have been so much more invested in her dilemma and her struggle with what to do if she'd actually really been close to her sister. That would have been fascinating! So while there wasn't anything I strongly disliked about the book, there wasn't anything I loved about it either.

Annie left Nathan three years ago and now she is back at his hotel for a poker tournament. She is a well known professional poker player. She knows that she will have to see him again. She have been trying to get Nathan to sign the divorce papers ever since she left him but each time, its turned futile because he doesn’t want to cooperate. Nathan have his own agenda when he met her again. He wanted her to help him catch some cheaters that will be in the poker tournament and as a prize for her cooperation, he offers to sign their divorce paper. But it turned out to be much more than an assignment for both of them when they are having a hard time distancing themselves.
I like the story as it flows easily from page to page and to follow to. I like Annie for her feistiness and her sense of independence. She clearly have commitment issues while Nathan’s character is truly amazing, I really like the fact that he never want to give up on their relationship and thru him, it show that love is worth fighting for and that we should hold onto them even by letting them go only to gain them back.
Back In Her Husband's Bed is a book I started and I have not been able to put down till The End, and even then I did not want it to end. This is a thoroughly enjoyable romance book about a Casino, it's owner and a card shark. Three years ago, Nate (Casino owner) and Annie (card shark) have a whirlwind affair and end up marrying. Nate is grounded but Annie is like a gypsy and can not seem to settle in one place, so one night Annie is frightened by her feelings for her husband and leaves him in the middle of the night, by just leaving him a note.
Present day Nate needs Annie's help in uncovering a cheating ring that is going to spoil the poker tournament that Nate is trying to lure to his casino. His deal with her is a divorce that he has denied her for the last three years.
This story has it all mystery, lies, love and sexy heroes. There are twist and turns so that you are left guessing till the end for who is the ring leader in the plot.
This is a definite 'MUST READ' and I would love some of the other characters to get a book wrote about them too. Congratulations Andrea Laurence.
Annie is a poker player, to everyone she may seem cold and unemotional, while Nate a casino owner is trying to work hard to bring his family’s legacy back after a bad run. Three years before they met and fell hard for one another, making Nate afraid of losing her and marrying her in haste Vegas style. Only Annie comes from a family of commitment phobic women which makes her run fast after Nate asks for a little more than she thinks she can give.
Now Annie is back wanting a divorce and Nate will give it to her, for a price. Nate needs help to break a cheating ring at a major poker tournament, which will bring a contract for future tournaments, and his best bet to do that is Annie.
While blackmail is not always nice, that’s the bets way Nate can think of to get both his wife back where she belongs and pickup where they left off, and to bring success to his casino. But things will not be so easy for them, for the cheaters are not going to give up the big prize that easily.
Second chance romance with a little angst mixed in, what more can I ask for. ;)
Back in Her Husband’s Bed by Andrea Laurence was a fabulous book that I couldn’t put down. I love these types of books where a marriage doesn’t work out yet, the couple who has yet to divorce, finds love after all. Annie Baracas is a poker player who has arrived in Vegas to play in a poker tournament at her husband, Nathan Reed’s, casino. He immediately seeks her out as he’s trying to expose a cheat and needs her help. He makes a deal with her that if she helps him identify the thief he will release her from their marriage. One thing leads to another and all signs point to one person as the cheat but never in my wildest dreams did I think about the person who actually turned out to be the cheater. This book is filled with love, emotion and suspense. It kept me on my toes until the very end where we discover who the mastermind is. All throughout the book, I could feel the turmoil that Annie was experiencing. Ms. Laurence did a great job in bringing both Annie and Nathan’s emotions to the surface. I highly recommend this book as I read it in one sitting.
I was honestly a little worried about this book when I first read the description. I was afraid that it would be the typical wife leaves husband, husband and wife are reunited, blah blah blah. But no this one a little bit different.
This book gives an interesting look at the operations of a casino in the middle of one of those big poker tournaments that they show on television.
Nate finds himself needing help from Annie. In return he'll give Annie the divorce she wants. Only if she'll help figure out who is cheating at the tournament.
I loved both Annie and Nate - and boy are there some steamy scenes between the pair of them!
This was an enjoyable read with just a touch of angst to go with some bad guy action. Keeps you interested and engaged, especially the second part when things start speeding up.
**I received a copy of this book from the author for my review**
Annie and Nate both want something. He wants her help to break up a poker tournament cheating ring and she wants a divorce. He agrees to give her a divorce if she'll help him catch the cheaters. But, to do so, she has to agree to acknowledge she's his wife. Is she ready for all that will entail? Over the course of the big poker tournament being held at Nate's Vegas casino, they end discovering more about one another than they did when they first married three years ago. They both are forced to face some truths. The twists and turns will keep you hooked until the end. And you will be surprised at how some of the characters play out. Andrea Laurence definitely hit a home run with this one!
this book was a great read by the end. the intrigue/the plot (not the plot about the two main protagonists but the one that got involved with the casino). it was excited and full of suspense. but the main plot, about that couple, was just an okay read. It felt cold and lack of feeling. certainly this book contained quite a few steamy scenes but that wasn't my purpose of reading it. I expected more grudge, more antsy and love. they loved each other sure. it was showed or written but what I read just bored me a little or I was uninterested until the tournament where Tessa got involved. so the book was way better.
I was given a copy of this book by NetGalley and the publisher for an honest review. Annie left her husband 3 years ago and has tried to never look back. A poker tournament brings her back to his casino and into his life because Nathan needs help. Someone is cheating and Nathan will use any means necessary, including his wife, to catch them. A bit of a mystery surrounds the whole story and the characters were well developed. There was just something missing- Annie's gypsy spirit, Nathan's trust issues made them unlikable at times.
Very good book set around Nathan and Annie who although married, know nothing about each other. Annie is the free spirit, Nathan the grounded one. Hot love scenes but also tender moments. Ms. Laurence throws in a bit of mystery surrounding a poker tournament and just when you think you know who it is, she totally tells you that you were wrong. Great story set in Las Vegas that will keep you turning the pages to see how it all ends.
A nice cozy romance to get through this long cold winter. Annie holds her own on the highly male dominated poke tables. Things are even more complex as she married the sexy and handsome casino owner Nathan Reed three year prior, only to run out on him before the honeymoon bed was cold. Things really get steamy when she finds herself working for her Ex in exchange for a long awaited divorce. Is this what Annie really wants though?
Warning! Do not start this book if you have something to do or somewhere to be. I could not put it down. In fact I sneaked the book in to work, hid it behind the counter and read while customers were browsing. This book has a bit of everything - revenge, mystery, romance. I didn't expect the twist at the end. Awesome book.
I hope there will be a book about the secondary characters Tessa (Annie's Sister) and Gabe (Nathan's Friend).
