1296, Berwick-on-Tweed. Amid the ruin of Scotland’s defeat, young warrior Ciaran Kerr kneels beside a dying woman whose last words shatter “I’ve been waiting for you.” He never learns her name. But he never forgets her face.
Seven hundred years later, Claire Harrington is a modern woman reeling from betrayal, intending to leave behind a failing marriage even as she embarks on a last ditch effort to save it with a trip to Scotland. But when a crumbling abbey in the Highlands draws her across time, she awakens in a world of war and vengeance—staring into the eyes of a fierce Highland laird who looks at her with unnerving recognition.
To Ciaran, she is the echo of a memory that has haunted him for nine years. To Claire, he is unmistakably familiar. She doesn’t resist the truth she feels in her bones—that his is the same face she remembers from nearly a decade ago, the stranger who cradled her after the car accident that almost claimed her life.
Bound by a mystery neither can explain, Claire and Ciaran are drawn together by echoes of a past they both remember, and yet cannot fully trust. To surrender to what lies between them would mean defying reason, fate, and time itself. But some loves are too powerful to be denied.
As with all books in the Far From Home series, I Loved You Then is a stand-alone novel. The characters from different books do sometimes interact, but these can be read in any order.
This is another beautiful love story intertwined with time travel. Two people who had a sense of de ja vu upon meeting for the "first" time find their growing feelings for each other have always had a place in history. Would that we could all find our person no matter the distance between us.
This was probably my favorite of the Far From Home series books, because the main character, Claire, had some extra special abilities that were very useful during a critical time and she gained recognition even though she was a female, which was very uncommon in medieval times. Because she had been a Trauma Nurse, she was able to save many lives during a medical outbreak of serious proportions. Another thing I liked about this particular book was the minimal amour of time spent by Claire on trying to go back to the 21st Century. Many of Ruger’s previous books, she has spent nearly half of the book on having the transported girl pining for and trying to get back to where she came from. It’s very irritating to me. Especially knowing that the writer has total control over the story line, so why not create a plot where the girl Loves the 14th Century more than the 21st Century? With the part of Claire having seen Ciaran before after her auto accident, it lessened he desire to leave, so I enjoyed this one much more for that reason also. I think it also helped having another time traveler already here, when Claire arrived. I give it 5 Stars.
If you're a fan of HEA, time travel and all things Scottish, this will hit the mark. The story is sweet and pretty straightforward but with just enough mystery to give the story something extra. The characters are well drawn and the author gives us glimpses of the difficulties of life and survival in that time period. I don't know if the name of the feast was drawn from historical records or not but it is so fitting it's easy to imagine it might have been. Loved it!
Really loved the story of Ciaran and Claire, the book had a brilliant storyline. Loved that it mixed with the book before, for part of the book. I hope there is another in this series, if not hope Rebecca does some more time travel books. Really like Rebecca’s books, have read them all so far, she puts so much detail in them.
Once again Rebecca Ruger gives you a story of time travel that makes you believe it is possible The characters have depth and the story draws you in from the beginning. It makes you wonder if it could happen to you
Really wasn’t certain at times this would end up the way I was hoping for, but it did! And how it did!! On different, more complex manner than your other stories. Loved it! Can hardly wait for your next novel. Take care. Edna B.
I should of given it a 4 star because I didn’t want to stop reading I wanted it to go on. This book focus on the time travel which I loved. The story line was so good I wish there was more I want to see if they got married and had a family!
This is a good story . It is good if you want to get lost in just a fantastical story. Warning, the sex scenes are graphic..too graphic in my opinion. I wish the author would just leave us a hint and let our imaginations figure out what happened in that bedroom. Overall it was a good story. Lots of excitement and battles and such to keep it interesting.
I enjoyed this book , not always predictable as some time travel books are. The characters are interesting and have interesting personalities. Frankly the male main character was pretty obnoxious most of the time. Good story.
Now I have read twelve books of Rebecca Roger’s and I can’t get enough. Deja Vu or the waiting for one to have your true love. If your into time travel these books are for you and you won’t be disappointed.
Another one to love....Scottish fantasy, well done! I love all her books so it's difficult to find more words. I cacn say though, this book brought on many mystical dreams...
