Jumpers: Code Zero

Rate this book
People with the ability to jump between realities exist. But no one in this world knows anything about them. What even is a Code Zero?

On the continent of post-apocalyptic Europe, the policing force known as Hunters are tasked with tracking rogue tech manipulators known as Alterers. For rookie field agent Luther Crows, trained to analyse data - not dodge bullets, his first mission should have been simple. Instead, it ends in a murder and rumors of a weapon that could unravel what's left of society.

And just where in Confinement is his partner?

As Luther digs deeper, he uncovers whispers of hidden agendas, anomalies the Hunters won’t explain, and a creeping sense that the mission isn't what it seems.

Someone is lying. And the truth may cost more than his badge.

Perfect for fans of high-stakes sci-fi thrillers, digital conspiracies, and slow-burn mysteries with a reality-bending edge.

I’ll admit, I came into this one skeptical. But just like stumbling across a brilliant unknown band on Spotify, sometimes you find a gem where you least expect it. Jumpers is exactly that kind of discovery.

Set in a future Europe that’s been stripped down and scarred, it creates a world that’s both eerie and oddly familiar — divorced just enough from our reality to feel fresh, while still close enough to feel unsettlingly plausible. The setting alone is worth the ride, but what really stands out is how clean and precise the storytelling is.

Where so many modern sci-fi epics get tangled in a dozen subplots, Jumpers keeps things tight. Two parallel storylines run side by side, perfectly balanced, never bloated. It has the lean edge of minimalist noir, yet still delivers an expansive, big-world feel.

The pacing is spot-on, drip-feeding background detail exactly when you need it — just enough to keep you hungry for more, never so much that it bogs things down. The characters are sharp, memorable, and deeply human, carrying the story with the right mix of grit and vulnerability. And the twist at the end? One of the rare ones that makes you want to flip back to page one and rethink everything you thought you knew — and it absolutely nails the landing.

I’ve already reread it, and it’s even better the second time. The mysteries that matter are resolved, yet the book still leaves you itching to see where this world goes next. It feels like the beginning of something huge, though it’s also fully satisfying as a standalone.

If you’re into authors like Joe Abercrombie or Nick Harkaway, this belongs on your shelf. Smart, lean, gripping, and genuinely original — this is one of those books you’ll be so glad you found.

I have been very lucky to have received an ARC of Jumpers: Code Zero from Beatham, having anticipated this debut for quite sometime.
Beatham has a passion for Sci-Fi that shows through his writing, and he has created here for us a piece of writing that contains personality and a sense of humour, with flecks of pop culture thrown into the mix. Beatham clearly has a realised world that he has created, and tries to reflect that in his writing - something I am sure is going to develop more, along with his vision for the Jumpers, the Hunters and the citizens of his world as the series continues.

I think there is a lot of potential in this young Authors vision, and he will really build more and more on his ideas as he takes us further. His characters play off well against each other (was really getting into Daizey’s zany character), and I look forward to seeing what comes next. I would love to see more of these Code Zeros!! There are a lot of little elements introduced in this first novel that I am interested to see Beatham take further.

A great debut! Here’s to your future Z R.R. Beatham!

Set in a dystopian Europe where life is inextricably tied to tech, the story dives into into themes of surveillance, control, and the blurry lines between progress and destruction. We are taken on a journey through this world with Luther Crows, an analyst turned field agent, as he navigates his first mission; one that starts unraveling mysteries deeper than he ever expected. Luther is relatable, flawed, and human, with glimpses into his past trauma and mental struggles that add real depth.

The story is slower-paced, with layers of intrigue and foreshadowing that allow the reader to speculate and become part of solving the mysteries. The world-building is immersive and unsettlingly plausible; reminiscent of worlds created in Cyberpunk (yes, the game), Ready Player One, Altered Carbon, and Feed (the books). It’s an ambitious and thought-provoking debut, one that lays a strong foundation for what feels like the start of a larger world and series.

As a lover of sci-fi and dystopian fiction, I was honoured to be an ARC reader for Beatham's debut novel.

I dont know where to start with a review of this. This book kept me guessing all the way through! Not only do you have a well thought out post-apocalyptic world with Jumpers able to cross dimensions but also a crime drama with the Hunters giving off FBI vibes. I can normally solve the mysteries or get pretty close but I spent the whole book trying to work this one out and it stumped me! I flit between the characters, is it this guy? No maybe that one actually. Never got there!
This book isnt aimed at teens because there are some gruesome gory bits however for more mature teens I think they'd enjoy it, definitely not for the sensitive ones though.
Give it a read and im sure you wont be disappointed. Looking forward to more from Z.R.R Beatham

Incredible! What an amazing ride. Jumpers: Code Zero by up and coming author Z RR Beathham is the kind of sci fi book that keeps you up way past your bedtime telling yourself " One more chapter" and suddenly you are finished with the book! What really hooked me was its intense, fast paced action, and the way the characters felt so real in the middle of the futuristic chaos. Beatham manages to balance action, tension and interesting twists without ever slowing down. Its cinematic, you can picture every scene as it were unfolding on screen. By the way, it will be an amazing movie! It's a page turner with just the right mix of danger, mystery and humanity. If you are into excitement high stakes science fiction. Jumpers: Code Zero is absolutely reading!

Jumpers: Code Zero (The Seeds of Chaos Book 1) is a great read for young people, sci-fi enthusiasts, geeks and their admirers. Beatham sets a pace that is sustained throughout in this imaginative and raw story envisaging a dystopian, post apocalypse, high tech future of reality Jumpers, the Hunters chasing them and Alterers, the rogue, tech manipulators.

I admire the author for his bold creativity in developing a vivid depiction of a future world that is extraordinary yet relatable, and with characters who extend the readers imagination but who can be identified with.

It keeps you guessing and holds your attention.

I was happy to be an ARC reader and for the privilege of offering a review.

Jumpers: Code Zero has been a fantastic read.

I love the concept of jumpers, hunters, alterers and the different realities. This book kept me thinking and engaged through to the end.
Who did it? Where are they? This book keeps you guessing through to the very last page.

I’m a big fan of sci-fi books but this was completely different to anything I have read before and I can’t wait for the next book.

Really good read. Just open this new sci-fi dystopian and I’m already hooked from the first pages. Got a long flight ahead, so perfect timing to keep going. The vibe is gloomy but the characters have real personality, and I can’t wait to see where it goes.

This is an ambitious, dark, and atmospheric debut from Beatham. I'm looking forward to future books.

Jumpers: Code Zero largely follows Luther Crows' first-person POV on his first field mission as a Hunter, an elite group of technologically superior investigators tasked with thwarting Code Zeros. We get glimpses into the perspective of the Jumpers, aka Code Zeros, a subsection of people who have the ability to jump between multiple realities. There is an epic, sweeping, country-hopping narrative that takes our main character through multiple different locations set against the backdrop of a post-apocalyptic, technologically-advanced society.

This book has a 'Blade Runner' vibe meets 'Loki' meets murder-mystery. I think fans of "The City & The City" by China Mieville or "Great North Road" by Peter F. Hamilton would find something to enjoy in Jumpers: Code Zero.

I received an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I love the concept of Jumpers and Hunters. I remember that one movie „Jumpers“ or sth like that from when I was younger, in which that one guy teleported around. And this here is even better. I mean reality jumping?! Excuse me ???? CHAOS! and that thing about assimilating all the knowledge 🤌🏾 noice
Tho the loss of people and connections one loves.. must be horrible.
Anyways! Love that idea 🫶🏽

I also rly liked the idea of DCUs. How amazing they must be but also how terrifying to have that as a mandatory thing.

Got a bit confused about using 'speech‘ instead of "speech“ as speech marks. I don’t think I rly got over it while reading. I tend to switch between my books tho - am a vibe reader - think I might’ve gotten used to it if I had sticked to reading one book at a time. x)

This is the first sci-fi novel I read in a while and I‘m glad I did.

I‘m honored that I was allowed to read this book as an arc reader. <3 thank you for this opportunity!

Zayne R.R. Beatham’s Jumpers: Code Zero hooked me from page one. The setting—a fractured, dystopian Europe—feels both imaginative and eerily possible. Luther Crows, our flawed but determined rookie agent, is immediately compelling as he faces betrayal, shifting allegiances, and the terrifying power of those who can warp reality itself. The writing is sharp, the action fast-moving, and the mystery keeps you guessing until the last page. This isn’t just a sci-fi thriller; it’s a story about choice, truth, and survival when. A brilliant start to what I hope becomes a long-running series

If you enjoy taut science fiction with strong world-cornering imagination, mystery that sharpens with each chapter, and a hero who fights internal and external battles alike, Jumpers: Code Zero is a standout—and a bravura debut

A thrilling blend of action, intrigue, and inventive sci-fi worldbuilding!

Jumpers: Code Zero is a gripping sci-fi debut that had me hooked from the very beginning. Z.R.R. Beatham delivers a fast-paced and action-packed story full of sharp dialogue, inventive worldbuilding, and characters you can’t help but root for.

The premise of reality jumpers hunted across dystopian societies is both original and thrilling, while the aftermath of the mayterious 'Blackout' gives the setting real depth. I especially loved the main character Luther and the quirky side-character Daizey. Also, I didn't see the final plot twist coming.

If you enjoy science fiction that blends high-stakes adventure with clever twists and immersive detail, this is a must-read. I couldn’t put it down and can’t wait for the second book of this series!

I've always said that sci-fi isn't my thing. This book definitely changes that!

A story of Hunters (the equivalent of police), Jumpers (not the woolly variety!) and Alterers (rogue tech manipulators) navigating the world of post-apocalyptic Europe.

I found the concept of DCUs, a computer network linked into the minds of humans, intriguing and enjoyed learning more about them as the story unfolded. (If you enjoyed the film In Time, you might find this concept interesting too.)

Who did it? What did they do? Where did they go?

A book that keeps you asking who, what, where? whilst simultaneously second-guessing what you already know! Gripping with twists and turns throughout - when is book two out?!

I’ll admit that sci-fi is not my usual go to genre but being offered a a chance to read the ARC for Beatham’s first book was too exciting an opportunity to miss.

Jumpers had me hooked right from the beginning, I absolutely flew through it. Set in a post apocalyptic Europe where technology is integral to human life. The story line was easy enough to follow while still keeping me guessing the entire way through. I was convinced I had it figured out early on… I didn’t.

I particularly enjoyed the funny little phrases in some of the jumpers internal dialogue. While the ideal of jumping through realities is so far from our reality, I found this to make him so relatable in some way.

Thanks for the opportunity to read Zayne, I can’t wait for the next one!

I recently finished reading Jumpers: code zero, and wow, what a page turner! As soon as I got to the end, I felt the need to start the book again! A super intriguing story for a first novel, I can't wait to see where it goes! As a lover of futuristic sci-fi crime series, I'm so excited to be at the launch pad of Beatham's writing journey.

There's relatability and mystery throughout, and resolutions entangled with enticing questions to keep you hooked to the very end.

Grab yourself a LunaPop, throw on some ambient sci-fi (or deep house) music, get comfy and dive into Jumpers without looming commitments.

Strong character development
Overall, it’s a bold and imaginative debut. I’m excited to see where the series goes next. Big thanks to Z.R.R. Beatham for sharing this ARC - definitely one to read!!

I was lucky enough to be a ARC reader and didnt realise what a privllage that was until I had finished the book. Truly amazing I was in between books and this popped up the perfect portrail of a dystopian Europe, elements of noir crime solving, multiple realities, characters and sets that drip with details and a writing style that truly makes the book flow as if you watching a movie couldnt put it down. Can really see this being a motion picture series quite easily. Now the only negative I have is having to wait for the next book.

Keep up the great work !

“Jumpers: Code Zero” is a fast-paced and imaginative sci-fi dystopian debut. Luther Crows, former analyst turned field agent, makes for a compelling lead, he’s thrown into tough situations that test his limits, and watching his arc unfold kept me hooked.

The worldbuilding feels fresh with plenty of room to grow, and the supporting cast adds nice depth along the way. Jumpers is a slower paced novel giving the reader time to try and solved the mystery as you read, keeping you immersed.

Overall, it’s a strong first outing that shows real promise. I don't read much science-fiction, but Jumpers kept me hooked. Great work, Zayne!

Code Zero is a whirlwind of a book that grabs you from the first page and doesn't let go. I went in expecting a typical sci-fi thriller, but what I got was a mind-bending ride through a post-apocalyptic Europe that's as dangerous as it is brilliant.

Luther Crows is the perfect protagonist for this story. He's not a seasoned hero; he's a data analyst thrown into a world of bullets and secrets. Watching him navigate this treacherous landscape felt so real and made me root for him every step of the way. The mystery surrounding his missing partner and the whispers of a reality-altering weapon kept me guessing with every turn of the page.

The author does an incredible job of weaving together a high-stakes conspiracy with a deep, character-driven narrative. It's the kind of book that makes you question everything you think you know. If you're a fan of intricate mysteries, digital conspiracies, and stories that will keep you up all night, then Code Zero is a must-read.
