The Pirate's Locket

Runaway Bride + Pirate Lord + Enchanted Locket = Romance and Adventure on the High SeasLady Beatrix Wrenwood has lived a sheltered life in Cornwall, but that is about to change. On the eve of her forced wedding to a man she cannot abide, she decides to run away and chase a family secret. She disguises herself as a boy and enlists on The Tempest, a ship bound for the West Indies. She can’t cook or tie a proper knot, but she can mend sails and scrub the deck, or so she thinks.

Captain August Drake has his own secrets. The French Revolution has given him the opportunity to legitimize his hijinks (or piracy, depending on who’s asking) under the guise of privateering. He’s recently come across a journal with a map that leads to the mystical island of Calverique, but it reads more like riddles than directions. When a cabin boy translates the inscription on the journal, Captain Drake begins to think something is very strange about the lad…

It doesn’t take long for Beatrix’s disguise to unravel, kicking off a dangerous and passionate romance with the captain. Beatrix uses temptation to entice him to reveal what he knows about Calverique, but it doesn’t take long for her to realize that she is in fact tempted by the man who broods about the ship and insists she come to his cabin every night.

As their passion blazes, August’s brother, the villainous Ambrose Drake, pursues them across the Atlantic. He, too, is after Calverique’s treasures, and he will stop at nothing to possess them.

Secrets, danger, and romance await all who dare pursue Calverique. Who will get there first? Who will live to tell about it?

Adventure, tension, intrigue, slow burning attraction and a flavor of magic … the ideal recipe for a real page turner!!

The heroine Beatrix is adorable yet admirable for her courage and adaptation, the captain Drake is a dreamy protective hero, the villain is truly despicable and thanks to the author the images of their surroundings truly came alive. It was such an enjoyable read! I’ll look out to read the next book and other stories from this author. 😎

What an intriguing story! So many twists and turns that you never quite know what to expect next. The characters are full bodied and utterly captivating! The backstory is woven so beautifully into the tale that everything works so seamlessly and effortlessly. I was drawn to the book by the idea of pirates and mysteries and was not disappointed! Can’t wait to read more of their adventures.

I picked this up because I'm a sucker for pirate romances, and it did not disappoint! Beatrix is such a strong heroine, I loved watching her go from sheltered rich girl to someone willing to fight for her own destiny. And August Drake? Swoon-worthy captain with just enough darkness to keep things interesting.
The whole treasure hunt storyline kept me hooked, and the tension between the two brothers added some real danger to the mix. I actually found myself hating Ambrose, which shows how well-written he is as a villain.
The romance builds beautifully without feeling rushed, and there's plenty of adventure to keep the plot moving. Perfect blend of passion and pirate action. If you like historical romance with strong characters and actual stakes, definitely give this one a try!
Looking forward to more from this author.

I enjoyed reading The Pirate’s Locket by Katarina D'Beers. It's a romantic adventure set at sea, following a young woman who escapes her old life and becomes entangled with pirates, secrets, and a journey that changes her future.

It has a nice mix of adventure, romance, and a touch of fantasy. I especially liked how Beatrix, the main character, grows throughout the story. The dynamic between her and Captain Drake was one of my favorite parts. It’s more of a slow-growing romance, which made it feel natural and engaging rather than rushed.

The plot has enough twists and tension to keep things interesting, and the villain adds real stakes to the story. It was a fun and immersive read, and I’d definitely pick up the sequel.

Thank you to BookSirens for this e-ARC.

I found the story to be charming and delightful. The premise of an adventurous historical romance had me eager to begin reading.

Beatrix is a smart character, but she could be exceedingly naïve at times. When she starts her employment as a sailor, she doesn't navigate the situation well. She gets in fights because her inexperience leads to trouble. She translates Latin, talks formally, and tries to take one of the captain's possessions. I wish Beatrix made more of an effort in her disguise. However, once I got used to her flaws, the story became easier to read.

Woah what a rush after reading this

The depth of the characters amazing

Beatrice was awesome so brave so clever

August well phew!!

Lords gone rogue

Such descriptions of the boats and ports clothing I could practically smell them

Violent in parts quite gruesome

The song and the lockets running through the whole backstory and how they happened to find things at different places such a brilliant tale so involved and complex

What an ending too

Can’t wait for book two🤞

I absolutely love the heroine Beatrix! She is so strong and determined. She is a perfect match for grouchy yet swoon worthy Captain Drake. There is so much tension, mystery, and longing in this book. I couldn't put it down. The author does a wonderful job drawing you in and keeping you hooked. You truly feel as if you are right there watching everything unfold. I can't wait for the next book and others by this author. I did receive an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Pirates, adventure, betrayal and secrets this book has it all even magic. From the first page you are taken on a journey that is filled with secrets and finding love. It makes your heart race and love how strong Beatrix is she navigates her life uncovering parts of her past. The ending leaves you wanting more. That’s all I will say as I hate when there are spoilers. Take the time to read it you won’t be distracted. Thank you Book Sirens for sending this to me as an ARC.

Received this book as an advance review copy.

This 1st book in the Legends of Calverique, was entertaining. The combination of mystery, romance, and fantasy/supernatural with a hint of piracy lure you in and when the story is ending, you’ll be wanting the next book to continue on. I read this book in just over a day and look forward to the next part of the journey.
