Award-winning author Chris Santilli has been a guest at Jamaica’s Hedonism II resort since March 1985 when she was 24 years old.
She took her 73rd trip there in February 2026. She wrote the first edition of the travel/humor book "The Naked Truth About Hedonism II" in 1998, so readers could know how to make the most of a trip there—and learn what really went on in the voices of many guests.
She has updated that guidebook again and again over the ensuing decades because the resort keeps changing (see https://chrissantilli.com).
She holds too many college degrees because of her efforts to postpone employment and adulthood. She has also dithered about in publications about construction, technology, and business for a few decades; and has pontificated to English 101 students at various universities for 25 years.
I loved this book for many reasons. At the end of a busy day, I could settle into a comfy chair and be transported back to Hedo. Although we were never there before Harry, I could picture the locations and feel the vibe. And the facts were entertaining. It was amusing to discover that from the very beginning a large percentage of the guests were doctors. What group knows better that life is short, you might as well go to Hedo.
I never knew that current owner Harry was an Olivia Newton-John fan! Perhaps if he hadn’t gone to her concert and chickened out when she asked him to come on stage, he would not have thrown caution to the wind and followed through with purchasing Hedo. He is living testimony that we should say yes to new experiences, which is truly the essence of Hedo. Thank you to the author for writing such an enjoyable stroll through the chapters my favourite place in the world. This book is great for anyone who has been to Hedo or is Hedo curious.
This book is the best of Jamaica's wildest resort, packaged for your coffee table. I'm loving the trip down memory lane. I first stumbled on Hedo in 2000 and have been most years since, so some things in the book predate my time and others remind me of what I have loved, both still there and elements that are no longer. If the author had not created this unique scrapbook, nobody else would have, and the history and images would have stayed with only a few people or been lost. Hedo deserved better and she brought that to life, a stellar achievement. The photos are each worth 1000 words, that's for sure!
I absolutely loved every chapter and organization of the book and many 100s of colorful photographs it's generously complimented by. The style of the book is easy to read and highly humorous. And a small, but valuable gift from the Author - a cute, signed by Chris Santilli, bookmark! I also loved the other, "The Naked Truth" book - waiting impatiently for a new, refreshed and greatly updated version to hit the shelves! Thank you, Chris!
I really, really enjoyed it. Many times I just burst out laughing. I am very impressed with all the research to create it. Chris covered everything. I sort of wish that I had been at Hedo during the comic court on p. 149. It must have been a fine sight.
A good read walk down memory lane. As a 30 year visitor with 100 trips . It’s great to remember all the fun times. Chris does a great job and greatly recommend this history of a 1 in a million place
Most every page brought a smile to my face. I can just imagine myself being there, although I have not as yet! The book has detailed history of the changes at the Hedonism II resort, entertainment, dining, crazy activities, and infrastructure of the resort. I read each section and can see the reason for the changes such as the removal of the waterslide, or simply wonder why something was not fixed or attended to. I am fascinated by the complexities of the management of hospitality and can see why Hedonism has so many loyal returning guests. Hedonism has no apparent substitute that I have found!
The soul of a resort is established in its early history. Certainly Hedo clientele is a niche market; I fall in that niche as well. There is much information within the book. To someone who has been there, the book is incredibly meaningful; it’s your “Yearbook.” It will have a totally different meaning once I visit.
Chris Santilli shares the history of Hedonism II like no one else. Her latest book tells the tales behind Jamaica’s most notorious resort, including the crazy sense of community and horny fun. It’s filled with pictures and stories you’ll wish you had been there for. You’ll smile all the way through this book.
What a fantastic read and history lesson on the humble beginnings of Hedonism and the employees, guests and owners that have helped build and shape the resort over its history.
I've learned so many interesting facts about hedonism the book is a fountain of information.
An amazing read full of great pictures and history and if you call hedo home then you need this book.
Chris Santilli What a trip down memory lane. Loved every word and every picture. Not only was it well written and entertaining it brought back those fond memories of days gone by. Now where did I put that bottle of Rum :)
