Welcome to Knife’s Edge, Alaska, where the four Osprey brothers return from military service with shadows in their eyes and secrets in their hearts. As danger looms, new romances ignite, and these rugged men must fight for love…and survival.

Ace Osprey was born to fly—but a crash stole his wings and left him with scars he refuses to show. Grounded and restless, the former Navy pilot masks his broken pieces with charm and swagger. He swore he’d never get tied down again, but when Dr. May Smirnov walks into Knife’s Edge with secrets in her eyes and fire in her heart, Ace finds himself pulled into a storm he can’t outmaneuver.

May came to Knife’s Edge to hide, not to burn. The small-town doctor keeps her past locked away, but Ace Osprey is a temptation she can’t ignore—infuriating, magnetic, and far too good at peeling away her walls. Their chemistry is combustible, but in a town where women are turning up dead under the endless summer sun, desire might be as dangerous as the killer stalking the shadows.

When May becomes the next target, Ace has no choice but to fight for more than just survival. Protecting her means risking his heart—and the closer they get, the more certain he is that she’s the one thing he can’t afford to lose. In Knife’s Edge, love isn’t safe…but some passions are worth the danger.

This is a well-written, entertaining, fast paced, romantic suspense novel. It has a likable, intelligent, strong and capable female protagonist, a kind and caring male protagonist who suffers from PTSD, a sizzling romance, wit, supportive friends and family, murder, mystery, suspense, an unexpected twist, and a gratifying conclusion. This is the third entry in Ms. Zanetti's fabulous Knife's Edge, Alaska series, and it is best when read in order for continuity. Her loyal readers will appreciate the nod to her Laurel Snow series. I am looking forward to reading the next installment with great anticipation. I listened to the audio book, and the narrator, Ms. Ava Flynn, does an outstanding job bringing the characters to life.

Burn of Summer by Rebecca Zanetti
Knife’s Edge series #3. Romantic suspense, thriller. Can be read as a stand-alone but better as part of the series.
Ace Osprey: Born to fly. Now mentally grounded after surviving a crash and being honorably discharged. He’s not ready to heal so spends his time drinking, and doing minor repairs and tasks for the elderly in Knife’s Edge. He’s chopped enough wood for practically the entire town next winter. He’s helped the emergency crews find missing hikers. But no planes. He simply can’t get near one.
Dr. May Smirnov: Doctor in the small town of Knife’s Edge. She keeps to herself. Sleeps with a gun in the side table and a knife under her pillow. Avoids being in photos from the growing tourist population. No one knows why she accepted the job in the small secluded area of Alaska but everyone is grateful she’s there. Including Ace, who keeps her busy with nuisance treatments from all his mysterious tasks around town. There are definite sparks between the two of them but she’s going to ignore them. She’s a professional. And she’s seen his drinking and flirting around town and doesn’t need that in her life.
Kyle Mercer: Senator in Alaska. The man May ran from. He’s in town for a fishing vacation with his staff and is soon asking May for a date. He subtly threatens the sheriff’s job. He’ll use whatever leverage he can to convince her to return to him.

When a young woman is killed, Ace is one of the suspects. But so are many others. It’s tourist season in Alaska where people have been hiding for years in the remote regions for their own reasons. How do you catch someone that no one sees?

I’ve come to really care for these Knife’s Edge residents, from the Osprey brothers and their spouses, to the elderly townsfolk, the young entrepreneurs, the waitress turned attorney, and even the seldom seen Wildlife Trooper. Stories I can sink into and immerse myself in all the passion, tension and mystery.

Explosive tension. Tightly knit brothers and family. Swoony romance. Steamy passion. Heart-mate love.

I received an early copy to review. I’ll purchase all formats to keep and reread.

Holy Ripped From the Headlines Plot! Rebecca Zanetti has crafted a plot, well at least one of the plot lines, that has me thinking she is clairvoyant. She was definitely channeling Sleezy California Congressman Eric Swalwell as an inspiration for Sleezy Alaska Senator Kyle Mercer. I love when a setting acts like another character and Zanetti's depiction of Alaska and a summer lightning storm is unlike anything I have ever read. Fantastic.

Ace Osprey is a retired Navy pilot who had a near death crash and the aftereffects have really messed with him leaving him unable to fly. He hides behind his charisma and service to those in the community of Knife's Edge, Alaska. Each time he gets injured he takes himself to the pretty new doctor in town to get patched up and it isn't because he needs the medical attention, he just wants her attention, period. The beautiful doctor is resistant to his abundant charm, but even her steel will is showing signs of weakening under Ace's relentless onslaught.

May is hiding in Knife's Edge and is not looking for any involvement, especially not with a charmer like Ace Osprey. When her past shows up in the form of wealthy Alaskan Senator Kyle Mercer, May needs all the help she can get to keep distance between her and Kyle and Ace is more than welling to be her buffer and a whole lot more. But women are being strangled and Ace is the prime suspect. Both victims look like May and Ace is sure she needs protection. Ace will do whatever it takes to keep her safe and win her heart.

First Impressions
Burn of Summer is a continuation of this saga and for the romance in this book to make sense you really need to be reading the previous books first. Not for the plot of the book or the mystery, but the romance won't hit the same if you don't feel the yearning that has been building in previous books. I found it to be just as good as some of the other books in the series. Its not my favorite of the series but it had yearning, heart, thrills of a suspense plot and some spice. There are aspects to this book that felt a bit anti-climatic though and might be a disappointment.

First Line
Ace Osprey was bleeding again.

The Main Protagonists
The Hero: Ace Osprey
The Heroine: May Smirnov

Summary
Ace and May have always had powerful connection and ever since May arrived to the small town in Knife's Edge, they both have yearned for each other but neither of them have acted up on it. But now there is a new danger and Ace is the target of being framed and the love that has been building between Ace and May is coming to a climax. May sees Ace in a way that most others don't. She accepts everything that he gives to her. But when its obvious that May is being a target, Ace will do anything to protect her...

What I Loved
I really loved how easy the relationship between Ace and May felt in this story. It was so laid back and lower inner conflict which I really appreciated. It didn't feel like they needed some crazy drama in this one. We some some important historical facts come to light with May's past. She has been a bit of a mystery up until now and seeing her come alive in this story was very powerful. I was all on board with her character. She is devoted to the community and being a doctor. I love how easily she sacrifices so much of herself for others. How she accepts Ace especially and gives so much to him and takes him as he is. We get some fun banter between the Osprey brothers that was a delight. And I really enjoyed the sub plot with Christian and Amka----definitely was a good mood lighter and just as fun as the main plot of the story and didn't take anything away from it. I appreciated that we got to see a glimpse into a new chapter in their relationship.

What I Struggled With
There were a few things. There was no background information given to the actual relationship between Ace and May that have been building in the previous book. I do think it would have been nice to have had a strong refresher than what was conveyed in the story. There was hardly any focus on the issues with the hero that was very obvious in the previous book. It was very anti climatic in how easy that was resolved. It was just a short little conflict in the third act that felt like the hero deserved so much more focus than what he received. It was such a big issue in previous installments, and I was really hoping that would be more focused on and it was a let down to see it wasn't as much as I was hoping for. Where is the TORTURED HERO that had been teased? LOL

Narration
It was pretty good. Not my favorite narration of the series, but it really conveyed the character dynamics and the actual romance super well.

Overall View
Burn of Summer is a vibrant shot of Alaska that will tantalize and fire up your sense with a delectable mystery and the culmination of beautiful yearning between a ex pilot and a sassy doctor...

The long wait is over. And it’s not an exaggeration I let this one drag out while reading, because it’s another long wait for the final book.

Ace is a charming, classically romantic asshat.
May is a passionate, practical sweetheart.
Their chemistry is so natural.

The story, both mystery and romance, move at a really well-paced clip. And I appreciate Zanetti giving us the broad strokes of the prior books and easter eggs from other series, but not bogging this one down with exposition.

Zanetti is so good at addressing difficult mental health topics through her characters. But the standout in this book is removing yourself from bad situations early. May subtly represents all of the people who are able to extricate themselves from red flag situations before having to become the perfect victim; it’s not glamorous, but it’s smart, and we want to live in a world where it happens more often. Great representation.

Good to be back in small town Knife's Edge with the Osprey brothers.  Ace and May get the romantic spotlight this time. The brothers rally around Ace and May when they both become targets of a murderer.

Enjoyed getting the latest with all the brothers and their significant others. Looking forward to Damien's story next.

4 stars!

A functional and chemistry-filled romantic suspense, this book had me captivated from start to finish. It’s part of the Knife’s Edge, Alaska series, bringing us the stories of four brothers living in remote Alaska with mystery, suspense, fantastic characters and gorgeous romance. They’re all great reads, and I loved this book!

This is Ace and May’s book. Ace is a former military pilot whose career came to an end after a crash left him unable to set foot into a plane again. He’s been struggling since then and has lost his way, gaining a reputation in town for his drinking and restlessness. But in true tortured hero style, he’s still an absolute charmer with a big heart, and he’s ready to put it behind him and start getting his life back.

May has run from a challenging past and has created a happy life for herself as the local doctor in the small town of Knife’s Edge. She’s been dealing with Ace’s teasing advances since she arrived in town, and though she’s done her best to keep her distance, she’s seeing a change in him, and her walls are coming down.

I loved watching Ace and May come together. They’re both smart and grounded, their chemistry is undeniable, and when they finally give in to it, they are on fire together!

But, as always, life in Knife’s Edge is not without danger. Not only has May’s past come back to haunt her, but now women are being killed, and Ace is the prime suspect. Ace is determined to protect May and clear his name while they confront the unwelcome arrivals in town and find their way forward together. It’s a captivating ride, and I loved watching it all unfold.

His brothers are all on board not only to help find the killer, but are also supporting and encouraging Ace to reclaim his life, and the relationships between the guys are really gorgeous to see.

There is some beautifully heartfelt progression for the previous couples in the series (Christian and Amka are so freaking sweet together!) and the stage is set for the fourth and final book, which I’m so excited for.

Such a great read, I loved it. 4 stars.

I listened to this as an audiobook, narrated by Ava Flynn, who also narrates the earlier books. She does a great job, and this is an enjoyable book to listen to.

Read if you like:
🏔 Small-town Alaska vibes
🔥 Protector romance
🪖 Ex-military heroes
💉 Doctor heroine
💞 Slow burn + high tension
🔪 Romantic suspense / serial killer plot

📚 In Knife’s Edge, Alaska, the Osprey brothers are trying to rebuild their lives after military service—but danger isn’t done with them yet. Ace Osprey, a former Navy pilot haunted by a crash that grounded him, has been drifting through life… until Dr. May Smirnov arrives in town. May came to hide from her past, but as a killer begins targeting women who fit her profile, she becomes the next potential victim—and Ace steps in to protect her, whether she wants it or not.

👨 Ace is that classic wounded hero—charming, restless, and masking deeper pain with swagger. His struggle with losing his identity as a pilot adds depth to his character, and watching him slowly find purpose again made him easy to root for. May is strong, capable, and independent, but still carries secrets that shape her decisions. She doesn’t need saving… but she chooses to trust Ace, which makes their connection feel grounded.

💞 The romance builds steadily with plenty of tension. Ace has clearly been interested in May for a while, and once danger ramps up, their dynamic shifts into protective, emotionally charged territory. The chemistry is there, but it leans more toward slow burn with suspense driving the connection rather than purely romance-focused.

👧 The town of Knife’s Edge—and especially the Osprey brothers—continues to shine. The quirky small-town characters, strong family bonds, and sense of community add warmth to the darker suspense elements. Seeing more of the brothers and their evolving stories makes the series even more enjoyable.

✍️ Rebecca Zanetti balances romance and suspense well, with a steady pace that keeps the mystery unfolding alongside the relationship. The serial killer plot adds stakes and urgency, though at times it slightly overshadows the emotional depth of the romance. Still, the combination of danger, healing, and connection keeps the story engaging.

🌟 Burn of Summer is a gripping romantic suspense with a wounded hero, a strong heroine, and a small-town setting full of charm and danger. Not overly heavy, but consistently entertaining—and a solid addition to the Knife’s Edge series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is the third book in this series and this time, out of the four brothers, we are focusing on Ace - the pilot. He was actually a Navy fighter pilot who had something go wrong on a classified mission and he has been wallowing - well, dealing with serious issues of PTSD actually is a better description. So....he has not been able to get in a plane since the event. His brothers....and the entire town...... seem to know that he will eventually get over it, but that seems to be the absolute WRONG way to deal with it. It takes Ace meeting the Doc (FMC Dr. May Smirnov), and deciding that he wants to be a better person for her, to make him rethink some of his issues.

And because nothing is easy, it just so happens that May has a prior love interest drop into the itty bitty town of Knife's Edge after deciding that he was definitely not okay with her leaving him. The fact that he was a United States Senator just complicated things.

Then, add to that the fact that there is someone killing women - women who just HAPPEN to be blond women that look like Dr. Smirnov and things get complicated very quickly.

I loved being able to drop back into this wonderful world of Knife's Edge. A small town separated from the rest of the world, inhabited by such wonderful folks, and honestly, a town that polices its own. So, I loved waiting for the bad guys to get their due, and boy oh boy was it fun when they did.

So, we have dealt with Ace, Brock, and Christian (A, B, and C) and all that is left is Damian (D). So....I am looking forward to seeing the latest brother get his HEA. We have already set the stage for it to happen....I have a feeling it is going to be a doozy.

As far as I'm concerned, Ace and May serve merely as a prelude to the story I've been waiting for—namely, the one between Stella and Damian. Still, if you want to spend three hours searching for a culprit who blends in perfectly with all the suspects, this book is just the ticket. Plus, it's set in Alaska.

Inoltre é ambientato in Alaska.

If you haven't read any of the Knefe's Edge books by Rebecca Zanetti you should. There are 4 brothers that grew up in the wilds of Alaska. This is the story of Ace. He's a former military pilot that crashed his plane years ago. Today finds him back in Alaska and afraid to fly. May, the cute Dr., helps him get out of the rut. Did I mention a killer?? When Ace gets framed for killing 2 females, everyone is on the look out to kind the real killer. Will they find out who did it?

Man, these Osprey brothers are awesome! Ace and May were great. The plot will keep you on your toes and I love that we get to see the same side characters in each book. I can envision this small town in Alaska and the books make me want to go for a visit. Well, except for all the murders going on. I’m sad we’re only getting one more book, but something tells me Damian’s story is going to end this series with a bang.

I loved returning to Knife’s Edge, Alaska, where the four slightly mysterious Osprey brothers continued to capture our hearts. In book 3, we have Ace Osprey who is infatuated with the town doctor and although Dr. May Smirnov came to Alaska to start over, throw herself into her work, and bury her past, she can’t seem to resist Ace’s flirtatious charm. It’s absolutely heart melting how Ace keeps getting injured, sometimes just to see more of the beautiful doctor who has infiltrated his thoughts on a daily basis. But it’s Knife’s Edge so of course danger lurks.

Rebecca describes the charming, rugged Alaskan town of Knife’s Edge by having each book set in a different season, this one in the Alaskan summertime where daylight stretches on and on. Lots can happen when tourists hit the town this time of year, some of it downright life threatening.

I listened to the audiobook and let me say that Ava Flynn is not only an outstanding narrator but definitely one of my favorites for narrating male characters. She’s perfect for this story.

This book can certainly be read or listened to as a stand alone but there is a murder mystery still unsolved that began in book 1. However, the murders here are a new storyline as Ace is dragged into the cases and May’s past seems to be back to torment her.

Ace is a protective, totally swoon-worthy hero in this story. He’s always there to lend a hand to the townspeople. Yea. He’s that guy. But. He’s also struggling with PTSD after a crash with his plane and much of this story is about him trying to get his head on straight to fly again. He wants May. And he wants to be in a good place to be with her.

May is a brilliantly written character. She’s smart, talented as both a doctor and a photographer, she charms Ace without even trying and easily develops real friendships in town. Ace and May are a definite end goal and go thru a lot to get to their HEA but it’s so worth it in the end. Their chemistry is both witty and fiery, just what the other needs.

This is a wonderfully written romantic suspense story and the last couple of chapters will have you mesmerized. I even may have yelled “go Ace” out loud.

Another visit to Knife’s Edge Alaska, the Osprey brothers and so many twists and turns I couldn’t put it down!

Ace is the brother who was a Navy pilot, who crashed his plane, and suffering from PTSD breaks out shaking and sweating and doesn’t trust himself to fly anymore. Instead he drinks, gets in fights, always trying to help someone, and ends up in Dr. May Smirnov’s clinic. She patches him up, till the next time. But his frequent visits stirs something for her. She wants to help him.
His brother Brock is the local sheriff, Christian is a wildlife officer, and Damian works security for a very secret agency. The regular characters are so interesting, the weather so unpredictable, there were a couple times when Ace and May are out in the very dangerous elements, I was holding my breath.

A Senator is in town campaigning, but mostly interesting in getting Dr. May to give him a second chance. She knew him in DC, and he is the reason she moved into a tiny town in the middle of nowhere Alaska.
Ace is worried about the attention May is getting from the senator. He cuts down on his alcohol, and is trying the straight and narrow. His brothers are encouraging and helping him.

I literally couldn’t put this book down. This is the third in the series, and I’ve already preordered the next.
An excellent romantic suspense, set in the wilds of Alaska.

This is a fantastic read. As the third book in the series, I was excited to dive in after thoroughly enjoying the first two—and it did not disappoint. The characters are sexy and engaging, the mystery is well written, and the relationships feel believable and authentic.

As a big fan of this author, I especially loved the two subtle nods to her other book series. Catching those references made me smile.

The first chapter felt a little slow while the background was being established, but once the story found its rhythm, I could not put it down. The ending left me wanting more—and luckily, there will be a fourth book!

Strongly recommend this series.

Book 3 in the Osprey brothers series. They are stand alone stories but the series is best read in order. Smart and witty people fill out this story. The bad guy is easy to point out here but it isn’t clear until the end how he could have done it.
Love triumphs of course but the getting there is more than half the fun. And the spice level is just right.

Ace's story is as entertaining as Brock's and Christian's. These brothers exhibit admirable character traits. They are simply lovable. Dr. May, the female protagonist, is intelligent, kind, and fiercely independent. Applause to Zanetti - It's a pleasure to read these stories.

Summer Storms

May is a doctor hiding from the trauma of her past in the small Alaskan town of Knife's Edge. She's strong, intelligent, and of course beautiful. Ace is a mentally anguished former pilot languishing in booze and his own thoughts after experiencing a devastating plane crash and the loss of a comrade.

And yet these two come together during the madness that once again grips this small town. This time it's not the serial killer that takes their victim's eyes; it's a killer targeting young women. Women that look a bit too much like May.

I am so invested in this town and its people. I hope more secrets are revealed especially for the side characters that have wormed their way into my thoughts. I hope the author will consider a spinoff, especially since these characters have a tie to a certain profiler...

As always, a magnificent 5 star read.

Burn of Summer was such an enjoyable read for me - I absolutely loved Ace and May's story! Rebecca Zanetti is always a master of romantic suspense and she never fails when it comes to protective MMCs and strong emotional tension. May was such a great strong FMC and I love Knife's Edge as a back drop. The storyline was exciting and kept me fully engaged the whole way through with the perfect balance of romance and suspense. And I really enjoyed getting more glimpses at Stella and Damian too! Book 4 can't come soon enough

Very Good Book

I really liked the romance between Ace and May. He’s so charming with an alpha edge and totally into May. She’s a very competent and confident doctor. I enjoyed their fun banter and sweet moments. The mystery of who was killing the women was interesting and had me guessing til the end. Good amount of action with good dialogue that showcased how close the towns folks are, including his brothers and their women. I recommend this book and series.

Ace Osprey was a Navy fighter pilot but a crash has grounded him, he hasn’t flown since. He returns home to Alaska where his brothers all live. Dr. May Smirnov has came to Knife’s Edge to hide. She has secrets that no one knows. Ace was drinking a lot but has quit since teaming up with his brother’s girlfriend in a business venture. May’s past has arrived in town and thinks he’s going to get her back. One woman is found dead by the water and Ace just happens to be the last one seen with her. At first May figures one time should be enough with Ace but he is more than just a pretty face. Then Ivy, May’s nurse, doesn’t show up for work and then her body is found. Again Ace gave her a ride home and he is being questioned again. Will they find the real killer before Ace is put in prison?

I believe Ace might be my favorite brother ( so far ). Action. Secrets. Steamy. Will keep you on the edge of your seat. I can’t wait for Damian and Stella’s book.
