She’s done it again! Alex has made me once again fall in love and break my heart at the same time with Gabe and Shem. 🥹🥹🥹

Let me start off by saying anything Alex writes is basically a drug for me at this point. She has this beautiful way of making you so frustrated at the character and slowly unpeeling their layers to where at the end, you are obsessed and crying over how beautiful that character is.
Hellcat is no exception to that rule. Gabe and Shem are top notch. They are beautifully made for each other and hold each other’s emotional scars and make them okay. Gabe is the type of partner every broken individual deserves. The storyline is wonderful but what I love even more about this book is it’s not just about their love story. Its also got a solid storyline on friendship and Hecate and her friends have this beautiful bond that anyone would dream of.
If you haven’t read this dualogy, please do so now and come back and tell me how much you loved it. I will be thinking of these characters for the rest of my life.

Love them! Love this book! Love Hecate! 10 Stars! Would read again! Give me 50!

ARC Review
3.5⭐

Something in this book is missing, and it bothers me.
I absolutely adored Shem in Deathtrap, but in this book? Nope. I felt like it wasn’t the same Shem at all. 😮‍💨
I was so looking forward to this book, but I just ended up being disappointed, ngl.
The chapters were off—when one chapter ended, the next one started at the exact same moment where the previous had finished. Why? That’s super weird. 🤯🤯🤯
I couldn’t feel their love at all, especially not Shem’s.
I felt like I stepped into the middle of their story—and I did read Deathtrap, but I still felt quite lost.
I don’t understand what happened with this book. It left me frustrated. 😤

I'm still glad I had the opportunity to ARC read this book! 🥰🖤

This book comes with a menu of trigger warnings, if you have any, this book is NOT for you. It also weaves in strong religious themes, so keep that in mind.
That being said… WOW. This is book two of the Murder & Mayhem Duet, and I was already invested after loving DeathTrap, book one. The characters in Hell Cat immediately pulled me in, and I couldn’t put it down. This story gives you everything: Hecate, Mother of Witches; Salem; Ares, God of War; Angels and Demons. The worldbuilding was dark, intense, and emotional. I was hooked from beginning to end. The overall story? What a wild, emotional ride. It makes you stop and ask yourself: What would you do for the person you love? What would you do for your friends?
I won’t give away spoilers, but I will say this, shoutout to the author for the therapy session at the end (my husband thanks you for that one).
@alexandrastpierrebooks you have an amazing gift. Thank you for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest review. Hell Cat is available TODAY, if you’re intrigued, buy it!

This shit rocked my world for real I can't even offer coherent words on it 🤣 Alex took me from blood boiling mad at Shem to wanting to put him in my pocket and keeping him safe forever which is quite a feat considering I was ready to chuck him straight in the garbage can so say no more 😩💗

Shem & Gabe will have my heart forever, specifically Shem 🥹

I enjoyed Deathtrap, however, Hellcat absolutely is my favorite. I feel like we got so much more depth and vulnerability with Shem & Gabe than we did in Deathtrap. This made me feel like I was able to connect and bond with these characters on a deeper level, which made the reading experience that much more enjoyable.

Shem reminds me of Cal from Mercenary and The Mortician, and it just made me love him even more. I absolutely adored seeing his character growth from feeling undeserving of love, to finding someone who wills him to believe it.

My heart broke several times for Shem as we see his destructive behavior is a coping mechanism. Our broken little boy just wants & needs love. I am so happy that Gabe continued to fight tooth and nail for Shem, it warmed my own cold black heart. The artwork of the two of them too, PLEASE. I need them framed.

Hecate is actually one of my favorite goddesses, so I love to learn and read anything containing her as a character. The Cat & Mouse game between Shem & Hecate was such a fun prank war that added another layer of fun to the story as well.

Side note: major shoutout to Alexandra St. Pierre for all the Sleep Token songs, I love you for that more than you know.

Hellcat is PERFECT going into spooky season, and is sure to tug on your heartstrings while scratching that paranormal itch.

i knew going into this book that i was going to love it, because i love everything alexandra writes, but WOW. she blew me away with this one.

shem and gabe, my loves 😭 after everything shem went through, gabe is everything and more that he deserves. getting to know shem’s background was so painful to read and had me sobbing throughout every chapter. that sweet baby deserved so much better and it makes me so happy that he gets that from gabe. their story is filled with so much pain, love and healing and i expected nothing less going into it, but being in the thick of it was PAINFUL.

hecate, my beautiful mother of witches. I NEED MORE OF HER. i absolutely fell in love with her as not only a character but what she represents as a whole. even when she wasn’t at full power, she was the strongest character in the book to me. she was definitely needed for shem and gabe to get it together and figure out their issues. as much as she was going through, she always made sure everyone else was good as well.

alex, thank you so much as always for the arc. i can’t even put into words how much i love your writing. i connect to your characters so deeply and will forever hold them in my heart. 🖤

1️⃣ **Overall Rating:** ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

2️⃣ **Overview/Synopsis:**: Shemhazai, our sweet little hellcat gets his own story told. Shem and Gabe are searching for Hecate, mother of witches. Little do they know they will find more than just her waiting in the town of Salem.

3️⃣ **Favorite Character:**: Gabe. Our little bird is quite the character. I love seeing a character that can handle someone’s trauma and help them heal.

4️⃣ **Most Memorable Scene:**: Shem using the elixir on Gabe. I felt it was where we really start to see Shems cracks.

5️⃣ **Favorite Quote or Line:**: “Fuck off, douchebag. I don’t have time for you. My man got me a present.” Shem has all the good lines.

6️⃣ **Overall Review Summary:**: Oof this book packed an emotional punch, much like St Pierre to try and rip our hearts out a little bit.

I loved this book. I had loved Death Trap but this book definitely has taken the top spot. The lore is amazing, I’m a sucker for god and angels and this just was top tier storytelling.

Shem, my sweet, sweet baby hellcat. I truly loved getting to dig more into Shemhazai’s character and what made him ‘him’. And seeing Gabe want him, no matter his scars and his trauma but knowing when he needed to set the boundaries, was so important to see. So thank you to St Pierre for writing it.

I loved getting to see all the witchy vibes!! Hecate was this amazing bada$$ woman that I would strive to be. Do no Harm but take no shit is a perfect tag line for her. And of course I always appreciate a Lilith and Ram appearance 😜. Shem needed to take himself out of himself for a bit.

This was such an incredible story. The characters were amazing throughout and this plot had me hooked. I just love Gabe and Shem so much (even though most of the time I wanted to punch Shem in the face), by the end it all makes sense and he redeems himself.

I'm sad that these characters stories have come to and end but what an incredible journey its been. From Lilith and Rems story in Deathtrap to now Shem and Gabe's story, its all come full circle and it's bittersweet.

Gabe is such a genuine character and everything he went through to help Shem overcome and heal from past trauma was so inspiring. And we can't neglect to meant the huge strides Shem made to get to that happy ending. Also, absolutely adored Hecate and her role in this story. As can be expected, she was such a badass. Overall this was an amazing story, with great characters and a fantastic plot.

I read most of this on the plane and I was eating it up. I was so intrigued by Hecate, goddess of witches is just so fucking cool I wonder if she’ll get her own book. As for my demon kings Shem and Gabe, I loved those two sadist fuckers.

Gabe. He was emotionally intelligent, a true empath. He would literally wait FOREVER which is a long time considering they are immortal but he would do it just to get Shems heart. He loved him so much he would do anything and it was so beautiful.

Shem. His avoidant issues due to his trauma and how he couldn’t get attached due to what his abuser did to him, breaks my heart. Watching him heal in this book was so pure, he deserves love and so much more. I am so happy he has Gabe.

True soulmates. 🐦‍⬛🐈‍⬛🖤

So, let me start my saying I adore Alexandra and her writing.. Chasing Riddick and TMATM are on my top 10 of favourite books I’ve read (and I’ve read 470 books so far) BUT this one just didn’t grab me.

I was and will always be eternally grateful to receive an ARC from any author but especially from one of my favourites but by receiving an ARC I believe it’s my responsibility to give an honest review.

Maybe it’s me, maybe it was a bit too dark for me, especially after I read Death Trap right before. That one just was toooo dark for me. I’m all for a bully romance with a redemption arc but, I didn’t feel there was one.

Now onto Gabe and Shem.. I enjoyed them as a duo, I enjoyed their banter and the way Gabe just wanted Shem to accept his feelings and for them to essentially run off into the sunset and live happily ever after but the connection between the two of them just wasn’t quite there for me. That could be because, as I’ve stated, I read Death Trap right before and it left a bad taste in my mouth when it came to these characters, I don’t know. Or maybe it’s because as much as I like to think I’m a dark romance girly, maybe I’m just not..

I have given this a solid 3⭐️ because as always, the way Alexandra writes her characters it’s just beautiful, and I will 10000% be picking up any book that she writes but for me, this one just wasn’t it. And you know what, that’s okay. Just because you love an author, that doesn’t mean you are going to love every book they write (it’s took me a looooong time to realise that 😂)
I’m a firm believer that not every book is suited to everyone’s taste and that doesn’t mean that the book is bad at all, it just means it isn’t for everyone and that’s okay.

Congratulations on another release, Alexandra, i look forward to your next one 🧡

This book! Wow. I'm so glad I got to ARC read this.

I fell in love with Shem in Deathtrap, but sometimes had my difficulties with his sadistic personality. Getting to know his trauma and trauma responses in Hellcat made me understand him on a deeper level and I fell in love with him even more.

But even more so, I absolutely adore Gabriel. How he stays. How he fights for Shem when Shem himself isn't able to. How he's patient. How he keeps pushing and showing up. How he ASKS what Shem needs. It's wholesome and healing.

And Hecate! She's badass. She's soft, yet strong. She reminded me of Lilith. These three were a delight.

This story moved me to tears, but also made me laugh. I went through all the motions.

What you get
- the Demon of Chaos being chased by a raven
- Hecate, Mother of Witches, playing catch
- Ares, God of War, being a pretentious dick
- abusers getting what they deserve
- trauma healing
- the power of love and friendship
- kinky spice (and some dub-con / non-con in the beginning, but not as long as it was with Ramel and Lilith)

My fancasts for the Hellcat full length feature film are as follows and let it be known I will be taking no feedback or criticisms at this time:

Shem: YUNGBLUD
Gabe: KJ Apa
Hecate: Florence Pugh

My overall takeaway from this book is ✨ Gabe For President ✨. He might just be my favourite Alex StP MMC yet, which is saying a lot. He is such green flag material and he is exactly who Shem needs at every step of the way - even (or maybe especially?) in the tough love moments.

In typical Alex fashion, this book has lots of moments that will have your jaw dropping and you mouthing "what the actual fuck" in the very best way as you try to read faster and faster to consume this at the speed of light. My best advice is to try and savour it, because once it's done, it's done.

While it's technically possible to read this as a standalone without reading Deathtrap first, you'll have a much more intimate and immersive experience if you read them in order, so I highly recommend doing so! As always, check your trigger warnings and enter at your own risk.

AND LISTEN TO THE SONGS THAT GO WITH EACH OF THE CHAPTERS, THE PLAYLIST IS THERE FOR A REASON. 🤘😍

Yahweh is no match for Alexandra 😮‍💨
In Hellcat you will continue where we left off in Deathtrap, following our precious Shemhazai and his new boy toy Gabriel on their mission to hunt down Hecate. They follow the Mother of Witches trail back to Salem where they discover that she’s hidden her true self in a mortal body. You see Shem and Hecate have been in a millennia long game of tag and Shem won’t stop until he’s had his revenge for the last foul prank she pulled on him centuries ago. He’s so close to having his sweet sweet revenge when a wrench is thrown into the middle of their game. An angel from Shemhazai’s dark past suddenly appears and sends Shem and the town of Salem into panic. Left in the dark on wtf is going on Gabe is trying his best to pick up Shem’s broken pieces as his soulmate is spiraling and falling apart. Follow and see if Shem will be able to fight against his demons and escape his past or if he’ll lose himself and Gabe in the process.
This was some serious emotional trauma man 😭 my poor boys really went thru it in this one. Once you hear Shem’s story and how he struggles…ZOMBIE FROM YUNGBLUD WILL GUT YOU FREAKING GUT YOU!!!😭😭😭😭😭😭. Shem and Gabe’s love is so freaking beautiful and I’m so thankful I got the opportunity to read about it.
This was earth shattering, life changing, universe ending perfection. I can’t recommend this amazing duology enough.

I received an ARC copy of this book, but my review is a bit late 😅
But better late than never right?
All I can say is HOW AMAZING THIS BOOK WAS!!! I ABSOLUTELY DEVOURED IT!!! I ADORE IT!!! It was everything!!! Shem and Gabe deserve all the love in the world!!!😭 They are so precious, their story is so sweet and painful at the same time!!! The plot was interesting, the spice was spicy, the romance was so deep and incredibly beautiful!!! That one particular spice scene? Chef's kiss 😎👌🏻
Honestly, I feel like everything I read by this author I will love, I've only read two of her books so far but they have both made me feel so many amazing emotions and have been such amazing wild rides! I absolutely fell in love with the characters and their relationships! Shem's trauma was shown and then handled in such an emotional and beautiful way that I wanted to cry! I'm so happy he has a Gabriel!! 😭😭🖤🖤 From now on I can officially say these characters are going to live rent-free in my head!!!

Oh man. Alexandra St Pierre - that was a masterpiece. This whole duet is perfection of healing, heavy doses of trauma wrapped in a perfect paranormal bow.

Please don’t take the triggers lightly, this is not a cutesy fun book about witches and demons. This has heavy religious themes (mainly Catholicism and Christianity) and trauma. However, you will laugh, you will giggle, you will kick your feet, you will sob, you will feel angry - you will feel everything.

There’s two relationships that are highlighted in Hell Cat - Shem and Gabe’s romantic and healing journey (MM) and Hecate’s platonic relationship both with Shem and with her best friends Luna and Willow. It highlighted the importance of healing with a crew - while it can take one person, having a whole support network can help provide comfort, safety and clarity - especially when you’re a stubborn Hell Cat demon.

Beyond that, the flipping of the religious narrative was a continued theme in this book where hell and demons - while evil and cheeky - are not the true villains. Again Alex highlighted the abuse that can happen in perceived “righteous” individuals. It’s full of drama, banter and action. You will not put this book down.

Please read both Deathtrap and the A Krumpas Christmas novella before going into this book. Deathtrap at least is a must for the full crazy ride amazing ride that you will never, ever forget.

I truely hope we get a little novella to catch up with all the characters - I don’t think I will ever get enough of this series.

5000 Triliion billion stars.

Hellcat.!!!! Shem and Gabe have my heart, Even tho I wanted to choke Shem out on more then one Occassion this was a good read! Although i felt it was missing something and focused a little more on Hecate the story was there and kept
me interested. Gabe being who he is and helping Shem move
Forward was cute, the relationship they have, the destructive behavior Shem has had and Gabe stayed close each time.
(Shem has to be a Scorpio) No better way to start my favorite time of year!

ARC read. WOW!! This was a wild ride with all the emotions. I have to say everyone NEEDS a Gabe. Shem and Gabe’s story is tragic and so well written. Controversial maybe, but I think Gabe, Shem, Hecate’s relationship is just how it should be. The game Shem and Hecate have played coming to a conclusion. When Shem and Gabe get together… 🌶️🌶️🌶️. Check your triggers, but even then I’d still recommend this if you read death trap and loved those characters, then you will love this book.

Thank you to Alexandra for gifting me an advanced reader copy of this! (I hadn’t read any of this works yet so I did read Deathtrap and Krampus for Christmas prior to starting this) I highly recommend reading both before you start this. I absolutely loved this book! Shem was such a character and his healing made me have all the feels. All of the characters and the underlying storyline were perfection. The history tying into this story was also extremely well done! I can’t say enough about this, it was an amazing ride!

If Deathtrap was the descent, Hellcat is what happens after you hit the ground and still refuse to die.
It’s a book about the violence of healing - about loving someone who flinches when you touch them, about forgiveness that tastes like blood.

Where Deathtrap explored faith and damnation, Hellcat turns the lens inward - to the quiet aftermath of survival.
Alexandra St. Pierre doesn’t soften her world; she strips it raw. Every page hums with the ache of being loved when you don’t know how to deserve it.

And if I thought Yahweh was monstrous in Deathtrap, Raziel here is worse. A sadist masquerading as divine justice.
Raziel is a fucking psychopath, and every glimpse into what he did to Shem left me shaken.
“‘Sinners don’t deserve to hide their scars, Shemhazai.’”
Those scenes broke me. They explain why Shem trembles at tenderness, why love feels like punishment.

At its core, this is Shem and Gabe’s book - and it’s devastating.
Shemhazai is centuries of guilt and celestial rot, arrogance built over terror, cruelty hiding a desperate craving to be loved.
And then there’s Gabriel - the man who should have left a thousand times and didn’t.
The one who stays.
The one who holds the monster until the shaking stops.

“What are you afraid of, baby?” he whispered, ghosting his lips against mine. “I’ll destroy whatever it is that’s scaring you and bring you its head on a silver platter.”

Gabe’s core is patience sharpened into devotion. He’s not soft; he’s steady. Quietly feral in his love.
He never demands softness; he simply waits for it to arrive.

And Shem… God, Shem.
He lashes out, self-destructs, tries to make Gabe hate him just to prove his own worst fears right.
But Gabe doesn’t break. He burns. Slowly, silently, beautifully.

When he finally stands his ground - “Careful, Shemhazai. Keep playing these games with me, and one day you’ll find you’re playing them alone.” - it’s the first time we see love fight back.
Gabe’s love isn’t weakness. It’s rebellion.
He chooses Shem, again and again, even when Shem cannot choose himself.

The spice here isn’t for spectacle. It’s unholy and holy at once - sex as language, intimacy as theology.
“He was stern and safe, like his demands were made in my best interest, and if I obeyed them, I would be rewarded with something beautiful and kind.”
This is what true dominance looks like - not control, but safety disguised as surrender.
And when Shem lets go - “Letting him take control of me was a relief. Like I could finally rest. Like I could finally stop fighting. I was so tired of fighting.” - it’s not submission; it’s resurrection.

By the end, love becomes a haunting.
Gabe’s steadfastness cracks Shem open, forcing him to confront the truth that survival isn’t the same as living - and that being loved after ruin is the hardest miracle of all.

“I think I fell in love with you the moment I saw you,” I admitted to him, and he scoffed. “You seem to have a weakness for sad, broken things, Gabriel.”

That line didn’t make me swoon. It made me ache.
Because by then, you know how much that love cost. And you know he’d pay it again.

“Being in love with Shemhazai is the most tragic thing that could happen to a person. Wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.”
And yet, somehow, it’s the most human thing of all.

Hellcat is a brutal, sacred thing.
It’s about loving the creature who bites the hand that heals him, and still staying.
About the beauty of persistence - of two broken men building faith out of touch and defiance.
About the way Gabe looks at Shem - “like I was something precious.”

Alexandra St. Pierre writes with the patience of a confessor and the cruelty of a god.
Her prose is bloodied, brilliant, unbearably tender.
She doesn’t romanticize pain - she sanctifies endurance.

This isn’t redemption. It’s survival rewritten as worship.

And I’ll say it plainly: I cried.
I wanted to hold them both, tell them they’re safe, that the war’s over - even if it never will be.
They are my lost boys. And I will carry them with me, always.

"For those who live in constant fear that the demons of their past make them unlovable - this one’s for you."

Hellcat doesn’t redeem darkness. It teaches it how to love back.

I truly did not know what to expect and what I was getting into with this ARC. as an unapologetic scaredy cat, I don't always dabble with with the dark romance variety BUT I am so happy that I took a chance on Hellcat. Shem and Gabe are two of my favorite mmc's I've ever encountered.
I will say, that I haven't read the first book in the series (yet), I requested this one because I loved the idea of a mm, paranormal, bi-rep having romance with lots of dark elements that would be perfect to start spooky season with, and it was exactly that. I am super excited to start at the beginning with Death Trap now that I've got my physical copy (I ordered it maybe 15% into Hellcat because I was so interested in Lilith and Ramel because they are talked about A LOT!). love the fact that even though this is a duet, I was able to read this book and understand just about everything that was going on even if some things that happened in the previous book or the short story were talked about, but not ruined.
St. Pierre's storytelling and world building was a breath of fresh air. it was fun, it was dark, it was taboo, it was MESSY! but I found myself laughing out loud at this demon and this hellcats shenanigans. one of my absolute FAVORITE parts of this book though was Hecate... she added such a lovely/humourous/bad-ass feminine POWER to this book. I was unfamiliar with Hecate's lore but the way St. Pierre weaves mythology/religion/real life together made such a wild but entertaining ride. the witches were everythinggggg. the commentary that goes on in here about Christianity might be a turn off for a bunch of people (wasn't for me). BUT I still think it's done with taste... just a little bit of flare! balancing all the world building elements that she does with this deeeeep amount of trauma that Shem specifically has was done so well. when you've been on the receiving end of the metaphoric whip and the persecution and hypocrisy for being who you are by people wielding a book, it hits a bit different.
this book was a hit for me! it wasn't too too spooky that I was scared. the spicy/taboo elements had me clutching my pearls., and the flashbacks from different moments in their lives were.. fun/entertaining.. for the most part (lol, IYKYK). but I found that at the end, I wasn't overwhelmed or feeling drained by this dark book. that are serious moments in here and definitely do checkout the trigger warnings BUT I think that it's not half as dark as I expected it to be. I actually found I had fun with these characters, and even in the hard moments I was enjoying their setbacks AND their growth as a couple and individuals.
I have been in so much conversation with other readers in my life about dark romance and what it means to interact with some of the worst things humans experience, in a work of fiction... and how some books feel like just piled on trauma with smut and spice that feels pointless. with these two characters, Shem and Gabe, I believe that St. Pierre makes their pain MEAN something. it doesn't feel like trauma just sprinkled in for no reason, but so people can feel seen, can heal or reflect and grow with the characters.
ok, this is long one and I still could go on and on, but I will end with I LOVED this. and I am beyond excited to get into the rest of her work that I've accumulated (the mercenary and the mortician, death trap, and chasing riddick). if this Hellcat is any indication, Alexandra St. Pierre is going to make it onto my list of most talented authors I've discovered. can't wait to be able to get my book trophy for my shelves!

Thank you Alexandra St. Pierre for the ARC copy! :)

4 stars but...
4 chilly spice (Read TW's)

3 POV's
-Shemhazai (Shem/Hazai)
-Gabriel (Gabe)
-Harper

I ARC read Deathtrap, so I was very excited to receive Hellcat as well, and I couldn't wait to get more of Shem and what happened in his past!

But, I was very surprised by the fact this wasn't just Shem and Gabes story. We also had Harper.
I'll always be honest in my reviews. I didn't care for her POV's. Near the end of the book I started to skim over her chapters.

I knowwwww! How dare I!!!
While I loved seeing her back story, I really only cared about Shem and Gabe.

Gabe became my favorite in this book. Shem really made me mad for a good chunk of their story.
I understand there's a reason for why he was being the way he was...but it still made me tell Gabe many times to just leave him.

I said what I said. Gabe deserved better. It was painful seeing how Shem was towards him.
Deathtrap made me fall for Shem but in Hellcat, it almost ruined my love for him.
It was their relationship that kept me reading. I needed to know why Shem acted the way he did.

I'm not even sure how to review this one.
I've gone back and fourth with my thoughts and how to rate it.
As much as Shem made me angry, I loved seeing his journey.
Their relationship/adventure is what made this four stars for me.
But...the witches POV, I'm sorry...I could care less about it.

So, I decided to give the book four stars even though I was mostly bored in Harper's POV.
If it weren't for Shem and Gabe, this would've been 3.75.

I can understand why so many love Hellcat. Definitely give it a read!

How many of us have face unrequited love? Doing anything we can to keep the person around long enough to prove ourselves? Gabiel absolutely has his work cut out for him with Shemhazai.

Having the second book be about Gabe and Shem was really chefs kiss. I wanted to see where their dynamic would go, so I was so excited for a predominantly MM story. There are so many really tough topics faced in this story, so definitely check your trigger warnings.

I absolutely adore both Gabe and Shem for many different reasons. I connected with Shem so much and reading of his struggles and avoidant nature definitely hit me in the personality. Gabe was always so strong and sure of himself and his decisions. I think he is the person we all aspire to be while Shem is the starting point for most of us. The growth of the characters throughout the story was rough, but well worth it. Then we have Harper and Lilith. I love Lilith so much. She’s just out here vibing, doing her own thing and connecting with the Earth.

I was super impressed with all of the knowledge bombs AS dropped on us with the amazing side of smartass humor that is her writing. Every little part of the story was so well thought out and researched. I really feel like I was actually in Salem again (I just recently came back from there). This was an amazing story and amazing series.

One of the things that drew me to this series specifically was it approached religious trauma in a way that made me feel like I wasn’t wrong for feeling the way I do about organized religion. This is how we, as readers, are able to work through our own experiences and trauma through reading content of a similar nature. So, thank you, Alexandra, for writing something that stitched a little piece of me back into place.

From the moment Gabe stepped into the underworld, his world narrowed to one thing—Shem. The chaos demon who’s made a habit of pushing away anyone who dares to get too close. But Gabe isn’t the type to back down. He’s determined to break through Shem’s walls, even if it means losing him in the process. Shem has never been one for attachments. Love, trust, all the strings that come with relationships? He’s avoided them at all costs. But Gabe gets under his skin in a way no one else ever has—pulling him in, driving him mad, and refusing to let go no matter how hard Shem pushes. The real question is: can Shem risk letting himself feel, or will opening up to Gabe only shatter him in the end? Finally free from her grave, Hecate has the chance to leave behind everything that’s haunted her. But the past doesn’t just vanish, and outrunning it while facing old dangers proves to be anything but easy. This was one of my most anticipated reads of the year, and Alexandra St. Pierre did not disappoint. The tension between Shem and Gabe was everything. Gabe’s loyalty—his refusal to walk away even when Shem was cruel—absolutely gutted me. Loving someone who only knows how to push you away takes a kind of strength that doesn’t get talked about enough. And Shem had my heart from the very beginning. Characters who’ve been through hell always hit me the hardest, and the way he fought against feelings he didn’t know how to handle felt so strikingly human. It hurt to watch him struggle. And then there’s Gabe—endlessly patient, giving Shem space and time when all he wants is to love him. The way Alexandra captured his yearning was perfect. He’s definitely a demon down bad. And Hecate—she’s ride or die through and through. Brutally honest, fiercely loyal, full of sass—I adored her. If you loved Deathtrap and want to fall even deeper into the chaos, then you'll love this one.

Hi, my name’s Emily and it’s been 0 days since I last thought about this book.

I simultaneously wanted to shake Shem and then wrap him up in bubble wrap. The UNBEARABLE tension, the constant whispers of what the actual fuck, and at one point I even gasped so loud my cats fled the room. Honestly? Snaps for you, Alexandra.

I had a strong suspicion after The Mercenary and the Mortician that Alexandra St. Pierre might just be my new favorite author and BOY did she lock that title down with this duology.

Hecate was written so perfectly, and the cast around her? Every single one of them felt sharp, layered, and unforgettable. And then there’s Shem, equal parts infuriating and fragile, exactly the kind of character that burrows under your skin and refuses to leave. Gabriel was his perfect counterpart. Fiercely loyal, his dominance was always perfectly timed, the fallen angel we all needed.

Dark, twisted, depraved, and yet threaded with moments of healing, tenderness, and even sly humor, Hellcat delivers it all. The curated playlist was just the cherry on top of an already devastatingly perfect read.

Final Verdict: Read this book. Then reread it. Then message me so we can scream about it together. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I was given the opportunity to ARC read Hellcat, so here is my review.

HOLY GODDESS DAMN THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING. I loved deathtrap, to the point my ren fair/halloween costumes with my husband is loosely based off of Lilith and Ramel. I love Shem in deathtrap and this book really gave an in-depth look into what happened to him.

Shemhazai - he’s the true definition of “black cat energy”. His hard, dominant exterior and sly mouth is that of a true hellcat. But his soft side (once he lets it out) is just as rewarding. The masking of emotions and freezing when faced with trauma truly hit home for me because that’s how I cope as well. I’m not a fight or flight, I freeze. I act like something isn’t bothering me when it truly is. Shem truly overcame his obstacles and let himself just feel for Gabe. He had so much character growth in this story.

Gabe- he was so patient with Shem until he wasn’t. Truly proving that you can only push someone’s boundaries so far before they snap. But that’s exactly what Shem needed. He needed someone to be straight forward with him. To tell him enough is enough and just because you have trauma you can’t cause trauma for someone else. And the love Gabe showed Shem 😍 covering him with his wings so that Raz couldn’t see him? Swoon 😍

Hecate- my goddess…the very air I breathe. I loved that we had an FMC that wasn’t the direct love interest of the MMC(s). That there was finally a book that the FMC and MMC were (mostly) platonic but she was still a main character. She was strong and fierce and everything I’ve ever pictured Hecate of being. The banter between her and Shem was also hilarious. She is the embodiment of “girl power”

I truly was blown away by this book. I had high hopes because of deathtrap and this not only delivered but blew it out of the park. I really hope we get some novellas of Lilith, Ram, Shem, Gabe, and Hecate. Especially one of her meeting Lilith 😍. This duet is definitely being bought and displayed as a trophy on my bookshelf 😍 thank you so much Alexandra for this opportunity!
