Duty or desire—some battles can only be won by risking everything.
I was Special Forces—disciplined, controlled, untouchable. Now I’m an elite bodyguard, living for the next mission and nothing else. Until a routine gas stop turns into chaos, and I find myself rescuing a terrified woman from what looks like a trafficking ring.
She’s no ordinary victim. She’s the daughter of a notorious motorcycle club president—and the men who took her aren’t finished. They want her silenced.
Protecting her is supposed to be just another job. But one look into her haunted eyes, and every rule I’ve lived by starts to crack. She’s fierce, vulnerable, and stronger than she knows—making me want things I shouldn’t.
As danger closes in, resisting her becomes impossible. Every glance, every touch, draws us deeper into a fire that could consume us both.
Because in my world, love isn’t safe—it’s lethal.

In a “right place, right time” situation, Landon “Grim” Grimshaw spots Allora Sterling as she begs him for help from the back of a van at a gas station.
Having been rescued from her traffickers, Landon becomes Allora’s safe place as she navigates her new normal in the days that follow.
Though there’s definitely an element of trauma bonding, it’s obvious from the start that these two are endgame. Allora’s strength in the aftermath of such an unconscionable event was incredibly admirable, and watching her slowly reclaim her power was so satisfying. Landon’s unwavering support and steady presence gave her the foundation she needed to fight her way back to herself.
There were a lot of moving parts to the storyline, which made the book feel very layered and detailed. However, at times, it felt slow to progress and I had to stop myself from skimming. Don’t get me wrong, I very much enjoyed my first Kat Mizera read and am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Grim is the first book in the Shadow Security series from Kat Mizera. This story will leave you on the edge of your seat.

The chemistry between these two is undeniable. All while this is happening you’ll learn about each other's past. The threat is still looming and once you know who it is nothing will stop Grim from protecting his girl.
I really enjoyed this one, and I can’t wait to see how this series will play out. I love all the other characters as well.
Grim, book one in the new Shadow Security series is the perfect blend of danger and romance. I thoroughly enjoyed this storyline that kept us guessing and the characters that found a connection that surprised them both. Landon Grimshaw (Grim) is a protector at heart and jumps in when he sees a woman in danger and as he realizes how amazing she is he will do whatever it takes to keep her safe. Allora Sterling never thought she would find herself kidnapped but that is exactly what happened. The surprise is the man who jumped in to save her. However, danger is till knocking at her door and Grim, the Shadow Security team and her father’s MC are all working to find out who wants her so badly. This is just the beginning of a new series and I for one can’t wait to see what else is coming our way.
This is one of the darkest books I remember form Kat Mizera and I am all over it! Grim happens to be in the right place at the right time to save Allora. Allora is trying to ask for help but having a difficult time as she's been drugged. Thank goodness Grim listened to his gut! Now Grim and the whole Shadow Security office is on the case. Love how Allora handles her trauma and Grim as well. Perfect couple!
When Landon "Grim" Grimshaw sees a woman needing help, he doesn't ignore his instincts to save her. And thank God he does, because Allora had been kidnapped and hurt beyond imagination, and needed rescuing and protecting more than he could have foreseen at the moment. Now he's brought her to stay with him until he and his team can find the group who's trafficked her and an unknown amount of others. He had no idea just how much she'd change his life, how hard he'd fall for her, while she stayed with him.
When Allora walked away from her father's MC life, she knew it would mean their relationship would be permanently damaged, and it has been. Except when she needs him most, he's here. But it's not just him in her corner this time. There's the man who rescued her, and his team and found family, Shadow Security. She's staying with Landon, finding her feelings of attraction and more, growing. But are his feelings changing, too? She feels as if he's holding back and wonders if he just doesn't want to take on a relationship with her and her baggage.
Whew, this is a non-stop ride from the very first time Landon lays eyes on Allora, and it doesn't let up until the last page. There's suspense and action, and at its center, a pair who fall in love under the direst of circumstances. This is a new series, and it started with a bang. Allora and Landon are sweet with delicious chemistry, an ever strengthening emotional bond, and with support from Landon's found family. I can't wait to read as more of them find love.
ARC provided by Wildfire Marketing Solutions for an honest review.
Grim is book 1 in the new Shadow Security series and follows private bodyguard and security, Landon Grimshaw (Grim), as he fights to save the woman he has fallen in love with.
Grim grew up with an abusive and neglectful father. He has a younger sister, Courtney, who is married to Prince Daniil of Limaj and has a son, Micah. He spent years in special forces and has worked for Chains doing private security in the past. He has never had a long term relationship since he does not stay in one place for long. He believes in doing what is right, regardless of the cost.
Allora was born to a motorcycle club Vice President, who is now the President. She is his only child and she is an MC Princess. When she was a teenager, an incident happened at the club and she walked away from it. Even now, she wants nothing to do with their lifestyle or their business. Her mom passed away a few years ago and she and her father have grown apart.
Grim and Allora meet under extreme circumstances. She is in bad shape when he sees her. His gut tells him that things are not good and he needs to find out what is going on. But since he is expected at Shadow Security, he calls the office to let them know what is going on. Enter best friend, Rage, to help Grim get to the bottom of things.
Protecting Allora becomes a full time job for Grim and Shadow Security. Her father agrees and is paying for their services, but others in the hierarchy of the club are not happy with letting someone else protect one of theirs.
As time passes and Allora heals, she finds herself attracted to Grim. But knowing what she has gone through, and the fact she is a client, he is reluctant to act on her requests, even though he is definitely attracted to her. But willpower can only last so long.
As days roll by, and information is scarce, Allora tells Shadow Security she needs to return to work. Things are set up so she can do a job in Vegas. But they are hesitant to allow her to go to New York for the next job for security reasons. She is not happy. She is going stir crazy being shut in. She is a social person and she loves her job.
But when Grim and Allora face their worst fears, all bets are off. Grim tells Allora to fight while he is outnumbered and outmaneuvered. This is an inside job, but who is behind it? Who would want to do this to Allora? Who has anything to gain for this? And the biggest question of all, WHY?
This book kicks off the series, and boy does it do it with a bang.
Grim and Allora will have to face some tough conversations in this book. Ones that every couple should address, but usually sweep under the rug. But they manage to talk things through. For someone who has never had a relationship, Grim is pretty darn good at the communication aspect of one.
Allora has very strong feelings about the club life. From things that she said, to Pete and her mother's friend at the cookout, she is not the kind of woman that would tolerate the behavior at the club itself. Growing up her family did not live at the clubhouse, but in their own home. I could see where that would make a difference. She also knows they do good deeds and help others in need, but she knows there is illegal dealings and that is what she has a problem with. I would thing most women would have a problem. I know I would.
I loved meeting Metal and Layla in this book and I am hoping to see more of them. They seem to be the exception to the club lifestyle and I am hoping that they keep in touch with Allora and Grim. Layla needs a friend and I think Allora can be that person for her.
Next up is Rage's book and I cannot wait for it. The wait is going to be endless, but this series appears as if it will be my favorite of Kat Mizera's.
GRIM is the first instalment in Kat Mizera’s contemporary, adult SHADOW SECURITY dark, romantic suspense series, a spin off from the author’s ROYAL PROTECTORS series. This is twenty-eight year old, former US Special Forces soldier Landon ‘Grim’ Grimshaw, and model Allora Sterling’s story line. Landon is Courtney’s brother (Danill / Royal Protectors)
NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there WILL BE triggers for more sensitive readers.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Grim and Allora) GRIM follows in the wake of the rescue of our story line heroine. Abducted and tortured by human traffickers, Allora’s rescue would come at the hands of the man with whom she would fall in love. Landon Grimshaw works for Shadow Security, and a chance encounter at a gas station, pushes Landon to call in help when he suspects an abduction in progress. Allora Sterling’s father is the president of the Renegade Demons MC, and will eventually hire our story line hero to protect his only daughter but when the past refuses to let go, Allora find herself under the constant guardianship and protection of our story line hero, a guardianship that will slowly turn into love . As the team at Shadow Security struggle to find the people responsible, another attempted abduction threatens any chance at happiness for our storyline couple.
The world building focuses on the protection of our story line heroine, as the search for the truth continues to allude. No suspects are acknowledge yet the familiarity begins to reveal a possible connection.
The relationship between Grim and Allora begins as a rescue that quickly becomes a full-time job. Landon Grimshaw refuses to walk away as the danger continues to worsen but Allora struggles with her confinement, often spiralling in the face of painful memories and fear. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate .
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, determined and engaging secondary and supporting characters including the return of Daniil and Courtney. We are introduced to the team at Shadow Security: Rage, Chaos, Eric, Mark, and Ron, as well as Allora’s father, MC president. Silver Sterling, and treasurer Pete aka Tex.
GRIM is a story of betrayal and vengeance, jealousy and obsession, family and relationships , acceptance and love. The character driven premise is dark, gritty and startling; the romance is fated and seductive; the characters are determined, dynamic and charismatic.
This was a solid, entertaining romantic suspense read that hits the right notes for fans of protective alpha heroes and high-stakes bodyguard stories.
Grim (Landon Grimshaw) is exactly the kind of hero I enjoy, former Special Forces, disciplined, emotionally closed off, and living for the mission.
When a routine stop turns into a chaotic rescue of a terrified woman from what appears to be a trafficking situation, his protective instincts kick into overdrive. The woman he saves isn’t just any civilian, she’s the daughter of a notorious motorcycle club president, and the danger following her is very real! 😦
What I liked most was how the romance develops. The attraction isn’t purely instant lust, it builds through shared danger, quiet moments, and Grim’s growing internal battle between duty and desire.
I loved Allora, she’s so resilient, she’s been through hell but refuses to break, which makes her chemistry with Grim feel believable and earned. Their connection has real heat, and the intimate scenes are well written, blending physical intensity with emotional vulnerability.
The suspense plot keeps things moving. The threat from the men who want her silenced creates constant tension, and the action sequences are gripping without becoming too over the top.
As the first book in the Shadow Security series, it also does a good job introducing Grim’s team and laying groundwork for future stories, though that occasionally slows the middle section a bit.
Overall, GRIM delivers exactly what the blurb promises…. a steamy, protective romance with edge of your seat moments, a strong heroine, and a hero who risks everything once he lets someone in.
It’s heartfelt without tipping into melodrama and left me curious about the rest of the series (Rage is next, I believe). 🤞
If you enjoy bodyguard romances, military style protectors, and stories that mix real danger with genuine emotional connection, this one is worth picking up.
What a fantastic beginning to a new series. GRIM, Shadow Security #1, was a book I couldn't put down. It is a bodyguard/protector, forced proximity, opposites attract, romantic suspense with plenty of emotions, drama, and action.
Landon "Grim" Grimshaw is ex Special Forces and is now working for a private security firm run by his sister and her husband. On his way to a work meeting he stops at a gas station where he notices a woman with bruises, who also appears to be drunk. Instinct tells him she's in trouble and he doesn't hesitate to help.
Allora Sterling is the daughter of an MC president. During her teens she turned her back on the club, which affected her relationship with her father. She is successful, resilient, and a fighter. Being kidnapped was not on her 'to-do' list, neither was being rescued by a sexy, strong, protective man.
The connection between Grim and Allora is instant, even at the hospital Allora doesn't want Grim to leave her side, she's terrified. It's not long before Shadow Security gets involved and grim is assigned as her bodyguard/protector. As their connection deepens through their conversations, Grim and Allora begin to heal one another of the burdens they have been carrying from their pasts. As their attraction intensifies, so too does the danger for Allora. Who is coming after her? Why? Will Grim be able to keep her safe?
GRIM is a turbulent ride, there is the perfect balance between the romance and the suspense. Kat Mizera's characters always have multiple aspects to them, and she has once again done that with the characters in this book, Grim and Allora were both strong, vulnerable, and needed to heal from their pasts. Rage's book is up next and I cannot wait for his story.
This is Grim and Allora's story, and it is also the first book in a brand new series, which is off to an amazing start as this first book was filled with pain, heartache, traumatic events, love, beautiful friendships, recovery from past and current events, healing, and protecting your loved ones with everything it takes.
The characters in this series were interesting, fantastic, supportive, and lovable. Silver Allora's father added an interesting element to the story, which was filled with some family drama as he is the president of a motorcycle club, and they have some growing pains between them.
Allora was a brave, successful, highly independent woman who straddled two worlds. Out of all the characters in this plot, she amazed us the most with her sheer determination and bravery, and the way she took the bull by the horns to charter he new life, whatever it looked like going forward.
Grim was definitely one of our favorites. He was protective, kind, loving, and possessive in a good way. What we loved about him the most was that he showed his own vulnerabilities and spoke about his past. Although his and Allora's situations were completely different, he had known the headspace she was currently in and offered sound advice from someone who had been through something traumatic himself. It made the man even more lovable. Although Allora was in charge of her own healing, Grim, AKA Landon, was a big part of that, as she had an amazing support system.
Although this story was emotional and there were times your heart would break for its characters, the banter between the group of characters balanced the darkness of the plot. us right in, along with its characters. The chemistry between Allora and Grim was beautiful, and we loved them as a couple. It's the plot twist we found to be exciting. The suspense is addictive.
We are looking forward to the next book in this series, releasing in August of 2026.
WOW! WOW! WOW! Grim is a roller coaster ride of emotions, danger, and suspense. Landon Grimshaw is former Special Forces who now works as a body guard and private security for Shadow Security which is run by his sister, Courtney, and her husband, Prince Daniil of Limaj. Allora Sterling is a former model turned photographer who is the only child of a MC President. Allora is strong and independent and wants nothing to do with the MC lifestyle. Since her mother's death, Allora and her father relationship has become strained, and they grew apart. Grim sees Allora stubble out of the back of a van when he is pumping gas, and she asks him for help. Before Grim can respond, a man appears and hustles Allora into the front seat saying she drank too much. Allora mouths help me to Grim before the van pulls away. Grim feels something isn't right and follows. Calling Rage, his best friend and co-worker, as back-up, Grim follows the van until it suddenly stops in the middle of nowhere, and the driver jumps out and runs away. With Rage watching his back, Grim opens the passenger door, and Allora falls into his arms. Grim's job is to protect Allora while Shadow Security and Allora's dad and the MC search sex trafficking ring that kidnapped and abused her. Will Allora and Grim give into their attraction to each other while they are living together? Can Grim and Shadow Security figure out who was behind Allora's kidnapping before they try to get to her again? Will Shadow Security and the MC get to Allora in time after she and Grim are ambushed after leaving Shadow Security headquarters? I absolutely loved Grim by Kat Mizera! Grim and Allora are an amazing couple with scorching hot chemistry. OMG, the ending! Grim is a great start to the new Shadow Security series, and I would highly recommend getting it. I received a free copy of this book, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
I was hooked from the beginning! This book was so good and yes it's dark and could have triggers for some so be sure to check that out but I like the way it was handled.
This is 1st in the new Shadow Security series and it was great seeing some of the characters from other books--- Prince Danill from Limaj and his wife Courtney who is Landon's younger sister.
Landon "Grim" Grimshaw was a Special Forces US Marine who was very disciplined and controlled and now an elite bodyguard. While enroute to his new security job he stops for gas and sees a woman in a van asking for help. At first he thought she was just drunk but then he saw the bruises and his instincts took over. After chasing the van the driver bailed and he rescued the woman.
Allora Sterling is 28 and an only child. She was born into the mc club of which her father is the president but she walked away from that wanting nothing to do with that lifestyle or their business and has little contact with her father.
Landon takes her to the hospital and she begs him to stay with her and he agrees and promises he will protect her. Her dad finds out what happens and shows up at the hospital and it turns into chaos.
Between Landon's security company and the mc club they start looking for the suspects which turns out to be a sex trafficking ring.
With Landon and Allora spending all their time together to keep her safe they get really close. "You're making it really hard not to fall in love with you." "Why are you resisting? That seems like a foregone conclusion."
The danger is elevated and Allora is taken again. Can they find her in time?
5 stars Can't wait for the next book in the series!
Book Trope: Age Gap, Forces Proximity, Found Family, Heroine in Trouble, Insta Love, Bodyguard, Military, Special Forces, MMC.
To Watch out for: Assault, kidnapping, stalking and rape.
Landon (Grim) Grimshaw, is 38, he was special forces in the military. Now that he’s a civilian he is working for his friends security firm. They provide higher end security for celebrities, sports teams, actors/actresses. Landon was at the gas station filling up his car, when he notices a woman trying to escape from a vehicle asking for help. He knows she is drugged by the way she moving. Then a man helps her back into the vehicle making an excuse that she’s just drunk. As they were leaving he notices the same woman asking for help. He knows he needs to do something. He follows the car and helps the woman escape. Turns out she was kidnapped 2 days ago and no one knew she was missing!
Allora is a 28 yr old woman. She was out getting drinks and dinner with her friends when she was walking back to her car she was grabbed and thrown into a vehicle. She is sure who the man is, she’s not sure what is going on or where they are going. Allora grew up in the MMC club, her father was VP when she was growing up. Now that her mom has passed they barely talk now days. But he is there the instant she calls him after she’s released. Being the President of the Mc he vows to work with the security team to track down those who kidnapped and hurt her.
Will Grim and his security team be able to help Allora stay safe? Will they be able to find those who are after her? Will Grim and Allora be able to have a relationship even though they can’t ‘date’ outside like a real couple? Who is after Allora?
I did receive a free ARC copy of this book. I am freely leaving a honest book review.
A new security business was forming, Shadow Security, but when he joined it, Landon Grimshaw aka Grim never imagined that his being in the right place at the right time, would lead not only to a new client but also a woman that captured his attention in more ways than one. He had no idea who Allora was but knew right from the start he had to save her, he had to be a part of her life, no matter what the risk.
Allora Sterling had left behind the place she grew up because while she loved her dad, she wanted to be as far as way as possible from that type of lifestyle. Her father, Silver, was the president of a Motorcycle gang, one that was well known for all the wrong reasons. She had gotten her degree, become a model for a while and now as a successful photographer. Until one night she was out with friends, and her life turned upside down. She was kidnapped, assaulted and more. When rescued by Grim she thought it was all behind her, until they both realized it wasn’t. She had been taken for a reason, and someone was still after her. The more time they spend together, the stronger the attraction.
This is the first book in the new series by Kat Mizera called Shadow Security. It was started by Grim’s sister Courtney who is now married to Prince Daniil. Like all her other series, the characters from previous ones are intertwined which makes it even more real. Kat has this ability to catch your attention right from the start and hold it until the end. All while adding in touchy subjects as a main point, those ones that are never really talked about. I cannot wait to see where this series is going to go.
Thanks to Wildfire Marketing and the author for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
This is an intense story that with some dark topics (check the trigger warnings).
When he sees a woman who is bruised and possibly drugged getting out of a van at a gas station, Landon ‘Grim’ Grimshaw is at the right place at the right time with the right skills and experience to rescue her and the willingness to try.
Grim was a character I have been waiting to have his own book after he appeared in Daniil & Courtney’s book. He is a natural protector and willing to put himself in danger.
His immediate connection to Allora when he rescued her is mostly protective with a large dash of attraction, but he stays by her side in the hospital while she’s still woozy and scared from being kidnapped, drugged and assaulted.
Allora is a very independent young woman who is determined to get past her experience and is frustrated by the restrictions keeping her safe require.
Allora is the daughter of the MC Biker Club’s President and he hires Grim’s company to provide security for her while they partner together to find the sex trafficking ring. Allora has a challenging past with her father and his MC Club. Her high school boyfriend is the club’s treasurer and he causes multiple arguments and general frustration for Allora and Grim.
I enjoyed the overlapping of characters from the author’s various worlds/series to appear in this book. Having known characters show up and interact in new books makes it feel like you are immersed in the author’s world.
This book can very much be read as a standalone, but for longtime readers you will enjoy seeing some favorite characters.
This new series is going to be intense and addictive! I can’t wait for Rage and Luna’s book.
I received a free ARC from the author; and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.
Heart-pounding danger from start to finish! A familiar face from Mizera’s Royal Protector’s series is kicking off her brand new Shadow Security series. Fans will quickly recognize Landon Grimshaw as well as his family and cohorts Courtney, Daniil, Rage, Chaos, etc. as they set up shop with a new security firm and are quickly thrust into the middle of more than they were bargaining for. The characters are well developed, the pace is intense and addictive and the romance worming it’s way into the business of things is refreshing. I highly enjoyed the start of this spin-off and can’t wait to see more of the guys find their true love! I especially need to hug on Chaos soon! Allora Sterling is an interesting character who can thank her lucky stars Grim was in the right place at the right time to see her cry for help. She’s fairly complex in that she’s successful and independent but she has a past in a sheltered, controlling life that she has worked hard to free herself of in the best way she can. The danger surrounding her brings that life to her bedside again … and a part of her wants the connection, but most of all she wants clear. There is a twist that really brings things to a head and changes her world. I highly enjoyed Landon and Allora and recommend their story to anyone who enjoys a bodyguard trope filled with danger, high intensity and a sexy happily ever after!
Things you should be aware of before reading this one. Even though it says it's the first in a series, it's connected to a few others that the author writes. She tends to inter-connect most of them, which is fun when you see things pop of from them.
This one opened with a bang! I was so glad that Grim was where he was and that he had the skills to notice something was off with the situation and Allora. He was able to save her and get her help right away and then along with his new company, they jumped into to protect her.
It was interesting to see a relationship build between Grim and Allora. They had things in common and not. The big issue was how they wanted to "get" the bad guys, which makes sense with Grim's protective instincts. It didn't help that with her past Allora's buttons were getting pushed by Grim's protectiveness.
I thought it was easy to figure out who was behind things, drove me nuts that the others didn't see it. When this person made their move at the end, it was so stupid. They just let it all hang out, solid in the knowledge that they would win. So it was satisfying when that didn't happen and what happened instead. I think it was the only outcome to keep Allora safe, even if it was harsh.
I look forward to seeing more in this series and the jobs they do. So far so good.

What a start to the new series Shadow Security. We have seen some of these characters as minor mentions in previous books so excited to see where their stories will take us. Landon Grimshaw (Grim) starts the series off. He grew up with an abusive father then joined the special forces then doing private security with Chains in the past. His younger sister is Courtney who is married to Prince Danil. While happy for everyone else he has never been in a long relationship choosing to never stay in one place for long. Enter into the story Allora who comes with her own back story as a MC princess that choose to walk away from the club and her father. When the two of them cross paths it is when Allora is in a horrible spot beaten and scared in a van asking for help through a window. He saves her and brings her to the hospital once there she won't let him go. It is at that point Grim chooses to become her protector and guard. During this time Grim finds out her status as a MC princess and meets her dad Silver (President of the Renegade Demons MC). Together they join forces to try and figure out who would have done this to Allora. While all of this is going on Grim and Allora start to fall for one another but initially fight it because what could come of the way they met and live their lives.
his book showed up at exactly the right time. My friend has been undergoing chemotherapy. It is an interminable wait for news. I decided that I would use Grim to provide a distraction while I waited. I am working not to post any spoilers. It would be so easy to turn this into a book report. On a scale of 1 - 5, Kat hit this out of the park at a 15. It has everything that I needed to keep my sanity while I waited.
In truth, I started this book distracted. The distraction lasted exactly 3 pages. The plot was unexpected and the story is riveting. It is definitely a story that will make you cry, laugh, shout, and just plain want to Gibbs' smack someone.
The relationship between Landon and Allora is like riding the Tail of the Dragon (11 miles and 311 turns). There are more twists and turns than expected. No one expects Allora's circumstances. No one would wish it on another. Landon (Grim) is the kind of man who puts the needs of others ahead of his own. He is a caretaker. Sometimes, irritatingly so.
Kat has knocked this one out of the park. From the beginning to the end, it did not disappoint. It is different from her other books, but just as exceptional. I am waiting for the rest of the series, whether it is 1 or 12 books. I thank her for writing a story that will stand the test of time and added a little light to my day.
Classic Kat Mizera story but with a dangerous dark edge, it’s absolutely brilliant and I couldn’t put it down.
The more Grim showed up in Kat’s other books the more I wanted him to get his own story and now it’s finally here and better than I could have hoped.
Grim is an ex Special Forces, a protector by trade and nature and when his instincts tell him the woman he just saw at a gas station is in trouble it doesn’t take him long to risk it all to help her.
Little does he know he will very quickly fall completely in love with the beautiful, resilient, strong survivor that is Allora.
They need to stick together until they can find out who tried to kidnap Allora, but it’s nit long before their connection becomes impossible to resist.
I loved this story, it had the familiar feel of Kat’s other books, that thing that makes her books my comfort reads, but also a new edgy feel of danger and a touch of darkness. I am super excited for the rest of the series.
If you want a beautiful love story where the characters are all in from the start, but also spice, mystery and danger, then you cannot miss this one.
I have received an ARC of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.
Grim is Allora, daughter of a notorious MC president and Special Forces and security expert, Landon Grimshaw aka Grim’s story. It’s book one in the new Shadow Security Series and what a great start to this group of men’s stories. Grim has just stopped for petrol (gas) when he is suddenly thrown into a chaotic rescue of a terrified woman……..doing what he does best he rescues Allora from what looks like a trafficking rink. It’s not long before Allora’s father and a few of his MC members turn up and start a battle of who can protect his daughter best and Shadow Security win. What follows is a man determined to protect the woman who is slowing getting under his skin and getting him feeling things he thought he had locked away forever but can he protect her when the real danger rears its ugly head……. This well written story drew me in and didn’t let me go, I fell hard and fast for Grim and I adored the strong and sassy Allora but took this book to the next level was the mystery and suspense of who was behind Allora’s kidnapping. I swooned, I smiled and I sat on the edge of my chair as I cheered this couple on.
*4,5 stars* This was the first in a new series and what a beginning it was. I didn't expect it to start the way it did and felt like a real rollercoaster with so many emotions going up and down while trying to figure out what was happening but also where it was going next. I truly loved both leading characters, Landon (Grim) and Allora but also the chemistry that was between them, even though the book dealt with heavy subjects, one that is definitely a trigger for me but I think the author handled it carefully the best way she could. Can't wait to see what happens next!
When Allora is rescued, she never really thought that would happen but she is so grateful that Grim was there at the right time. Grim's night completely changed after what happened but there's just sommething about Allora that makes him not want to leave her side. As she still might be in danger, he's determined to keep her safe from harm. There's a lot they don't know and while Allora's healing, there seems to be growing something more between them. As time goes on, the threat is still looming over them even though the danger might lurk nearer than they know, but they're ready to fight it all...
I absolutely loved this! The action starts right from the get-go and doesn’t let up throughout. A case of being in the right place at the right time has Landon ”Grim” Grimshaw saving Allora from a sex trafficking ring. This is the first in the Shadow Security series which follows on from “Daniil” where Daniil and Courtney (Landon’s sister) settle in the US and set up an elite security firm. It does a great job of introducing all the main players while focusing on Grim and Allora. The firm quickly take on the case to protect Allora and crack the trafficking ring, complicated (or assisted?) by the MC Allora’s estranged father is the president of. The bodyguard falling for his client is a well used trope, but Ms. Mizera does it well with Grim, his protective instincts kicked in at first sight and their love grew very naturally. There is plenty of action in this. The shootout ending with Allora’s second abduction was a highlight for me and a pivotal point in the story leading to a very satisfactory conclusion. This was an excellent read and I’m looking forward to more in this series.
What a fantastic way to start a new series. Even though I figured out who was behind what happened to Allora before it was revealed, I was enthralled from the first minute to the last. When Grim/Landon first sees Allora she is in a van asking for help. The protector inside him feels like there is something going on and sets out to help her. Thus the journey begins.
As a security guard he knows he can protect her, but he doesn’t expect the feelings he has for her to grow as fast and strong as they do. I loved the realistic nature of her relationship she has with her day. He is the president of a MC and she doesn’t agree with most of what they do, but she still loves her dad. When the person behind what happened to Allora appears to be one step ahead, they essentially go in to hiding.
With the action and intrigue that was in this book, I’m not sure how this can be topped. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to see what happened next. I received an ARC and this is my honest, voluntary review.
After Grim left his career in Special Forces he now works with Shadow Security as a bodyguard. Due to his past, he is natural protector so when he sees a woman n a questionable situation he doesn’t hesitate to come to her rescue. He has questions about what she has been through, and he is determined to uncover the truth and will keep her safe until that happens.
Even though Allora’s father is the President of the MC it isn’t a lifestyle that she wants. After everything she has been through since she was abducted Grim was the one person who made her feel safe. She is torn between being understanding why she needs to put her life on hold and her need to be independent as well as the depth of the feelings she is developing for Grim.
The suspense part of the story keeps you edge as well as the emotional turmoil they are both experiencing when it comes to their pasts as well romance and love between them that wasn’t part of the plan and is tested by the danger they find themselves in.
Now that is how you start a new series!!! Holy cow was this a great read! From start to finish I was Sucked in and didn’t want to let go!! This book was emotional, this book was suspenseful and most of all this book was beyond perfect. Grim (Landon) is former military and now works in private security. When filling up gas at a station he fell onto a situation that would eventually change his life…in more ways than one. Allora was minding her own business when she was kidnapped, tortured and so much worse. When she sees Landon she screams for help…little does she know how capable he is for this situation. This well written, well layered read had everything you need and want from a book. The story was beyond compelling, the characters had amazing depth and told one heck of a story. A story about surviving the unthinkable, a story about finding your person and everything in between! I am so excited about this series and can’t wait to get to know these characters better. Bring on book two!!!
To say I am a fan of Kat Mizera would be an extreme understatement since I have read every one of her books. Grim is not a new character, but has been a side character in multiple books, so to finally find out what makes him tick, what makes him Grim, is fantastic! He is the no nonsense, protective man expected but there is way more to him than what he shows on the surface. Some people will say fate isn’t real but sometimes it’s the only reason for two people to wind up together like Grim and Allora. A story that has moments that will make your heart ache but a story that is truly about overcoming traumatic events, whether they are recent or long past, and being strong enough to live a happy life surrounded by people you love and love you. The Shadow Security series is off to an amazing start and the rest of the series is bound to be just as phenomenal!
This started with a chance meeting, a timely rescue and ended with a HEA
Grim is former military, current bodyguard and all around knight in shining armour when it comes to saving women in distress. Allora has gone through the most heinous things that can happen to someone and yet she can still feel safe when around him.
Grim is determined to find the men who hurt Allora and put a stop to them, he just has to outmanoeuvre Allora's biker dad and his gang of miscreants.
I was so proud of the way Allora and Grim handled their traumas - different routes but they both sought help and gave each other leeway when cracks showed. There were plenty of twists but I'm chuffed with myself that I got the right bad guy!
Chock full of found family vibes, over protective bodyguards and men that not afraid to say they love their friends and family.
I am not usually a blood-thirsty person but that ending - justice was served by the right hands!
A Pulse-Pounding Romance Filled with Heart and Soul

Through this ordeal and his unwavering protection, the spark between them ignites and is filled with both passionate and tenderness. As with many of her novels, Kat Mizera balances high-stakes danger with heartfelt moments as Grim becomes determined to help Allora reclaim her sense of safety and self-worth. The storyline’s twists and turns will keep you engaged while the tender moments will leave you breathless. Grim is a powerful, satisfying, and emotionally charged novel – simply a standout read for fans who crave romantic suspense with heart. You will not be disappointed.
What a way to kick off the Shadow Security series. If you had read this author then you have met Grim (Landon) in many of her different series. He has always been the guy that is protecting and keeping people safe. We know he loves his sister and his nephew. When he is going to meet his family to talk business, he sees something that doesn’t look right and he listens to his gut and saves a woman in trouble. They have an instant connection and chemistry, and ShadowSecurity gets involved, and Grim has to protect her. Allora is the daughter of the President of a MC and she doesn’t want anything to do with that lifestyle. However as the danger doesn’t go away her frustration grows as does her feelings for Grim. As they try to navigate their new relationship the danger heats up until Allora is taken again. This story has it all action, chemistry, and twists.
