Breakpoint is a sports romance about Jaz, a seasoned tennis player, and her new doubles partner, Daniela, the sport’s rising star. The big question is—will they learn to work together, or will their rivalry be all that’s waiting for them?

As a tennis fan, I was really excited to dive into this rivals-to-lovers story. The premise hooked me right away, and I have to say, the author did an amazing job showing the lifestyle of a professional tennis player and capturing the sport’s dynamics with impressive accuracy.

That said, I had a harder time connecting with the characters. Jazmine’s attitude just wasn’t my favorite—she often came across as emotionally closed off (even after we see the challenges she faces with her age and race) which made it hard for me to fully root for her relationship with Daniela, who on the other hand, was easier for me to relate to, and I enjoyed her growth throughout the story. Jaz did grow too, but Dani’s development stood out more to me.

As for their romance, I liked that it progressed naturally without feeling rushed, but for some reason, the chemistry between them didn’t completely click for me. Still, I had fun following their journey, and the tennis element kept me turning the pages.

Overall, it was a light and enjoyable read—especially if you’re into tennis and love a bit of rivalry in your romance.

Jaz is a highly competitive pro tennis player who eats, sleeps, and breathes tennis. Jaz doesn’t have time for a personal life when her life revolves around tennis and being the best. At the age of thirty-five, she feels the pressure to pass the racket and retire, but she’s not ready to do that. To make matters worse, the media are already calling Daniela Kappas, also known as America’s Sweetheart, her successor. Oh, but it doesn’t stop there. The Olympics Committee has paired Jaz with Dani to play a doubles match. What does Jaz think about that? Absolutely fucking not.

Dani, an up-and-coming pro tennis player, is a sweetheart and loved by all. Well, everyone except Jaz. Dani strives to make a name for herself and leave her mark in the tennis world despite already being from tennis royalty. So when Dani receives big news that she made it onto the Olympic team on her own merits, she’s beyond excited, at least until she’s told it's a doubles match. The important thing is that she made the team though…so who’s her partner? Oh, just the pro tennis player who is known for being an ice queen…Jaz. Now, you see Dani has her reasons for disliking the older woman, so there is not a chance in hell.

Unfortunately, with no real say in the matter, the women reluctantly agree to train together for the Olympics, but they start off on the wrong foot. Jaz and Dani make it pretty clear that they won’t be making friendship bracelets. Seeing no real progress, the two decide to put their animosity aside for a real chance of winning the Olympics match. So, as time goes on, Jaz and Dani learn to tolerate each other and then form a friendship. What was once a death glare is now an appreciative glance that lasts a little too long. Friends don’t look at each other like that. Has Jaz finally met her match?

A rivals to lovers sports romance that had me wanting more of Jaz and Dani. As rivals? The two were at each other's throats and the disdain was palpable. Jaz and Dani certainly weren’t doing any trust falls. As lovers? Scorching. I thought Jaz and Dani had great chemistry on and off the court, so it was easy to root for them. The book could use some more editing because I caught some errors and typos, but it didn’t take away from how much I enjoyed the book. This was a sweet sports romance and I definitely recommend it. Happy reading!

I really wanted to like this book. I didn’t hate it but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would. It fell short.

There was lots of telling and not showing. It would be mentioned— the weeks of bonding, dinners, experiences, etc but those interactions were not shown. It made the relationship feel surface level with no chemistry. You can’t just have weeks go by in a relationship with a couple of sentences when you are still building up said relationship. It would’ve been better with a couple more scenes where we got to see Jaz and Dani interact and have those moments.

With that being said, both MCs felt one dimensional as well. We got a little bit into Jaz’s psyche, but that was about it. Dani was a 20 year old nepo baby and nothing really stood out about her, other than the fact that her former pro tennis player parents didn’t approve of her going pro.

This was a sports romance, but the tournaments to be an afterthought. Winning 19 Grand Slams was Jaz’s goal. Dani and Jax being doubles partners for the Olympics was a core part of the plot. It felt glossed over. All of a sudden, I’m reading that they won Gold. The same with Jax getting an individual Gold and then Wimbledon It was weird how fast the scene was over.

I also had an issue with the age gap. I don’t mind the 15 years. That’s about the maximum that I’m comfortable with. But when the younger of the two is 20, I can’t get behind it. I’m 30 and would never look at a 20 year old and be attracted to them. She can’t even drink and her frontal lobe isn’t fully formed. It was nice that the age gap, how it would be perceived and power dynamics were discussed by the MCs, but again, the lack of not showing us the building of their relationship didn’t help my issue with the age gap.

I feel like the book had a lot of potential. Age gap aside, if there were a few more edits (I saw a couple of typos, errors), revisions and more fleshed out scenes between Jaz and Dani, it would’ve been great. But without those? It’s just okay.

Well done sapphic sports romance! I enjoyed the rivalry between Jaz, the seasoned pro and Dani, the nepo newcomer to professional tennis. I received an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Kind of forced to work together to play as doubles in the Olympics, can they get past the rivalry and work together to crush the competition? I liked the pacing of both the rivalry and the relationship between our MCs. I very much enjoyed the spice ;). Recommend!

Firstly before I get into my actual review, I would like to thank Candi Tab for allowing me to get my hands on an advance readers copy. I got a copy for free (Book Sirens) and I am leaving this review voluntarily. I had been in search for a sapphic tennis read for a long while (which by the way is quite niche and extremely hard to come by).

Anyway getting onto the book itself, this read quenched my longing for a good tennis read!! It was exactly what I was looking for in a book. I think one of the most important aspects for me was for the author to have a strong understanding of the sport- which as someone who is an avid tennis fan, I feel as though I can say Candi sure did their research. With that being said it wasn’t overdone either, there was enough detail for someone who doesn’t know tennis to understand the sport but also not too much to the point where it was boring. We as readers got to see the behind the scenes context, both the build up and aftermath of grand slams (which is something I always think about as a tennis fan).

In terms of the romance element it was the perfect enemies/rivals to friends to lovers, making it as realistic as possible. Their romance had longing- yes there was a physical attraction component of their relationship of course. But Jaz and Dani had more than that, we saw their shared love for tennis which helped them to grow competitively and their love for each-other that grew over the duration of the book. Yes there was an age gap however unlike some other age gap romances I have read I feel as though this one was balanced and not at all uncomfortable, not to mention consent was consistently brought up, this couple had nothing but respect for each other. I also want to add I found it incredibly wholesome that Jaz was finally ready to let her professional tennis career go in order to pursue her love.

Additionally both Dani and Jaz these were so well fleshed out!! I understood their backstory, their queer identity and their tennis origin story. What stood out the most to me and what I appreciated so deeply was that the readers, also got an insight on Jaz’s struggle with being a woman of colour in the tennis industry. I just feel like it was such an important inclusion given the current state of the world along with the unfortunate reality that so many black women in tennis continue to experience discrimination in the sport to this day. Biggest shoutout to the all the black queens in tennis who paved the way for this character to be created (Serena and Venus Williams, Coco Gauff, Naomi Osaka, Taylor Townsend & Sloane Stephens just to name a few) !! <3 Candi’s inclusion of some of those players in their acknowledgment was so perfect.

I cannot stress this enough; representation is so important!! It truly breaks my heart knowing that so many people are unable to see themselves in media. Not just that but being able to find media that doesn’t fetishise or objectify queer relationships, can be difficult. That’s why I feel as though I have found a diamond in this book, as this was evidently written with a sapphic audience in mind. I love when queer people write for queer people, it is always so obvious to me when a sapphic book isn’t written by someone who has a lived experience of queer love. So shoutout to this author who hit the nail on the head and did a wonderful job.

Finally, with the constant backlash the queer community faces, it can be hard simply just existing sometimes. But this novel serves as a reminder (no pun intended) that representation is out there. Which is a personally such a comforting feeling, that you’re seen and you’re loved. Overall a genuinely great read for those who enjoy sports romance and for all my fellow sapphics longing to be seen in a book. Once this book is officially released I will be 100% getting my hands on a physical copy (I also love the cover art) 👟🎾🌱❤️

I had a hard time rating this novel; I think that I personally didn’t connect with it a whole lot however in an objective sense it was better than my impression of it. If that makes sense! I’m going to give this one 4 stars and I think it deserves it (rounded up), although personally I might have given it a bit lower based on my own impressions.

There was a lot I liked about this novel. I enjoyed both of the protagonists and felt that they back had significant backstories that felt real and genuine. They both had their own concerns and goals, and I think these characters were the strongest part of the novel. The plot was fine; it definitely worked to keep the story moving forward however I think your personal enjoyment will be linked to how much you enjoy tennis. Some sports novels require the reader to care a lot about the sport, some it barely matters at all, and this one was closer to the former than the latter.

I had some issues with the writing, but I can’t tell if those are “me issues” or not. The author frequently skipped or rushed over scenes that I thought would have been longer and more important in ways that felt anti-climactic to me, and I thought it was strange. There were multiple places where they skipped over chunks of time and then covered what was skipped through character flashbacks (if I explained that properly?) which is something I have seen other authors do but isn’t something I ever particularly like as I find it results in a strange flow for the story. Overall I found I had trouble getting fully engaged in the story, but I did enjoy it nonetheless.

I read an ARC version of the novel so I am not counting this in my rating but I feel it should be mentioned; this novel was full of mistakes. Strange sentences that didn’t quite make sense, typos, and the occasional flat-out mistake (the protagonists name was wrong in one instance), I hope that the novel receives more editing before release. I am rating it with the assumption that these things will be fixed (fingers crossed).

Thank you to the author and BookSirens for this free ARC. This honest review was left voluntarily.

4.5 🌟 actually.
I have said this before, but I crave this type of novel. I just do. I want it all the Sapphic sport romance that there is and that authors keep writing them.
This one, in particular, was very fulfilling in all aspects, characters, their development and arc, the romance, the family, and friendship relationships.
The only reason it is not a full 5 stars is because of some parts of the writing that were kinda weird, like some expressions and phrases left me a bit confused or cringing a bit. Also, I think there were some moments in the story that I would have liked to see, and left me wanting to read about those parts.
Overall, it was fun and engaging and had compelling spicy scenes.

Im a huge tennis fan so i was really please with this book. I enjoyed the characters and their growth, the tension and the drama, the descriptions of the tennis matches and the life on tour. And the spice was good! It’s fast paced, meaning it goes over a year long and not every big moment is described, but overall it was a very enjoyable read, especially for tennis fan

Jazmine Mason is a 35 year old tennis legend. She feels like she’s not keeping up with the intensity of the training and the matches quite as well as the younger players, so the idea of retiring is slowly starting to plague her mind. She has won seventeen Grand Slams and she’s gunning for her eighteenth and beyond to, at least, match Brittany Kappas. Daniela Kappas, daughter of Georgios and Brittany Kappas, is a 20 year old, up and coming legacy tennis player. Both her parents were tennis players, now retired, and she’s trying to make a name for herself as an individual, apart from her family name. By a stroke of luck or maybe serendipity, they’re paired together to play doubles at Wimbledon and the Olympics. Despite being polar opposites at the beginning, they slowly begin to understand each other and make small changes to accommodate their routines to one another. After friendship comes attraction and after attraction, love. Can two players that come from such different backgrounds make a relationship work?

I loved both Dani and Jaz, I believe they were very well rounded characters with great rivals to lovers chemistry. I sided with both in different occasions. There was definitely growth, in the portrayal of the accommodation of each other into their own lives. I liked that despite being a sports romance, the characters had other hobbies like partying, dancing, reading and listening to audiobooks.

I liked the pacing and that the scenes in retrospect were still fully described, not just summarized over. The spicy scenes even the ones told in retrospect, felt very intimate, not like a means to an end but like an exploration to figure out how to please one another.

I would definitely recommend this book to women’s sports lovers and hope to read more from this author.

This really provided so much.
The plot, the intensity, the romance. This is REALLY good.

Jaz is a thirty-five-year-old pro tennis player. Given her age, she is constantly plagued by questions from the media about when she plans to retire. She is also always asked about one other play in particular- Dani.
Dani is a twenty-year-old player and is seen as big and upcoming talent.
Jaz holds some resentment for Dani- as she is tired of the media trying to push her out of the game and replace her with someone younger.
When the two women get paired to play together in the Olympics- Jaz is far from thrilled about the situation.
The two rivals must learn to play nice together and will eventually discover that the other isn’t exactly as unlikeable as they once thought.

This really has everything!
Perfect If you like:
- Sports romance
- Rivals to lovers
- Age gap romance
- Sapphic romance

Jaz and Dani are SO good together.
I really felt the connection between the two, and I was waiting so patiently for things to finally heat up.
They were so honest and supportive to each other, and that was so great.
I also thought it was so sweet how important it was to Jaz to make sure that Dani never felt taken advantage of or coerced into anything because of their age/power difference. Talk about age gap romance done the right way!

The rivalry here is amazing.
Pretty harsh and Intense. Jaz was not playing around.
That just made it so much better when they finally got close.

I would so recommend this. What a hidden gem!

There aren’t nearly enough sapphic contemporary romances, so when I saw Breakpoint, I picked it up immediately—and I’m so glad I did. I already trusted Candi Tab as an author who knows how to deliver, but this one truly exceeded my expectations. Even though I don’t usually lean toward sports romance, the mix of rivals-to-lovers and age gap dynamics made this story shine with intensity.

Jaz, a 35-year-old Black tennis player, has built her career against every stereotype the tennis world could throw at her. Nicknamed the “Ice Queen,” she isn’t cold out of arrogance—her stoicism is the hard-earned result of discipline, resilience, and years of fighting for her place. Now nearing retirement, she’s paired with Daniela, a younger rising star raised under the weight of parental expectations. Their tension is palpable from the start, rooted not in manufactured drama but in very real conflicts about legacy, ambition, and the sacrifices behind victory.

What I loved most is that the book doesn’t glamorize sports as a world where dreams are easily realized. Instead, it portrays the grind, the struggles, and the toll it takes on relationships—especially for women in same-sex relationships, who face both the demands of constant travel and the scrutiny of living under the spotlight. Yet amidst the intensity, there’s a sweetness in the way Jaz and Daniela’s connection deepens, showing how unlikely pairings can become the strongest.

Breakpoint is sharp, thoughtful, and beautifully detailed, with every nuance of Jaz and Daniela’s world adding weight to their romance. It’s the kind of book that lingers after the last page. Highly recommended for readers craving sapphic romance with depth, heart, and authenticity.

I really loved this story, overall. I felt all the feelings along with the characters. There’s themes of resilience, love, connection and courage.

This is the first book I’ve read that had a FF storyline. I love a good tennis story as well as the rivals to lovers trope, so I gave it a shot.

This is a story about two very strong women. Jaz, a tennis prodigy and legend as well as her much younger rival, Dani who has the game in her bloodline. They begrudgingly agree to play as a team and begin to learn from and about each other. They do not anticipate exploring larger concepts like living their truth with courage, vulnerability and determination. The spice/romance element was really great and builds slowly which I enjoyed.

The hesitation on 5 stars is because the storyline seemed to jump around a bit and that threw me off pace. This was also an ARC, so there was some odd phrasing and grammatical things that will probably work themselves out once published.

I also had a bit of a hard time with Jaz’s character development. She had this very bad b**** energy which has its place at times and was rightfully earned, but it kind of turned me off. I adored Dani though and really enjoyed experiencing her growth.

Big thanks to the author, publisher and the BookSirens group for this ARC!

Thank you BookSirens for the opportunity to read and review this Arc!!

Two tennis players work together to play doubles. They have to set aside their bitterness and work together to win the competition. However, what if something grows into an unexpected love?

In the novel, Jazmine and Daniela must collaborate as a duo in a tennis competition. Each player brings a unique style of play, both on and off the court. The plotline of the book is excellent, featuring detailed descriptions of each match, their practice sessions, and interactions with other characters.

I particularly found Jazmine's character inspiring due to her background in tennis and her charitable efforts. She doesn’t do it for awards or recognition.

However, I found Daniela to be quite dull and overly cocky; her character didn’t feel authentic. She seemed more like a side character than a main one. Additionally, the romance between her and Jazmine felt rushed and unrealistic. I am also unsure with the age gap, considering that Jazmine once played against Daniela's mother early in her tennis career, and was even the reason her mother quit tennis.

Overall it was sweet and a good summer read.

A Riveting Rally of Romance and Rivalry

Breakpoint by Candi Tab is a sizzling, high-stakes sapphic romance that serves up passion, tension, and emotional depth in equal measure. Set in the adrenaline-fueled world of professional tennis, the story follows legendary player Jazmine and fiery newcomer Daniela as they transition from fierce rivals to unexpected doubles partners—and ultimately, to something far more intimate.

Tab masterfully captures the intensity of competition and the vulnerability of falling in love, especially when ambition and pride are on the line. The age-gap dynamic adds a compelling layer to their evolving relationship, and the chemistry between Jaz and Dani is electric from the first serve to the final match point.

With sharp dialogue, authentic sports detail, and a romance that simmers then scorches, Breakpoint is a must-read for fans of rivals-to-lovers stories and LGBTQ+ fiction. Whether you're here for the tennis or the tension, this novel delivers a love match you won’t forget

This was a super fun sapphic romance and as a tennis fan, I loved the sport aspect of it. As much as I enjoyed it, lot of things could have been done better when it comes to this book. While I liked the chemistry between the two mains, I do think their relationship moved way too quickly and too much of it happened off screen. I don’t like when authors rely on exposition and unfortunately this book, as another review also noted, has far too much showing and and not telling, with too many moments between our romantic leads happening in flashbacks as recalled memories.

I love the idea of wanting to cover most of the major tennis tournaments but I doing so, it rushed the story snd the development of the relationship and if that had it done differently I think the story and the romance would have been stronger in the end. It’s not my favourite sports romance but it was a very enjoyable read aside from a handful of spelling mistakes (the book could have used another pass for spelling and grammar) and if you’re looking for something fun to breeze through and are a tennis fan, this is worth giving a shot!

I've read almost all of the sapphic tennis books I could find, as I'm currently obsessed with tennis and I must say, each book has its own unique charm, including this one.

You can really feel the passion and love Candi Tab poured into this story. It’s meticulously written, and what I loved most was the way she describes every detail during the matches. The scenes on the court are crafted with such care and precision.

The main characters are well-developed and thoughtfully written. They each have their own motivations, flaws, and backstories that add real depth.

If there’s one thing I personally would’ve liked to see more of, it’s the intensity of the rivalry. I felt like that aspect could’ve been explored a bit more but that might just be my personal preference.

Overall, I really enjoyed it. I know many people struggle to find sapphic tennis books, and this one is definitely a must-read.

Thanks to BookSirens for the ARC.

Cute and straightforward with uncomplicated, but well-paced and fully resolved character arcs that make sense. Line writing is tight and descriptive. If you're looking for a fluffy sports romance, this is a fantastic choice.

I did feel the spice fell flat in places ("in out, in out" for example, completely took me out of it.), and there was far more "walking through events" than dialogue, though when it was there, it was very well executed. My biggest issue was the ending, where, yes, it's a lovely romantic sacrifice, but the "retirement/coming out" reinforces the stereotype that you can't be gay in sports. And since it's tennis, it's extra odd since lesbians in tennis is as common as lesbians in football and rugby.

Overall, I enjoyed it for what it was. Aside from the niggles, the tension was there and the characters were believable and sympathetic. I just wanted a bit more of that and a bit less of the tennis.

Breakpoint by Candi Tab
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I don’t usually gravitate toward sports romances, but this sapphic tennis romance completely won me over. 💕 This was fun, spicy, and surprisingly character-driven in the best way.
We follow Jaz, a 35-year-old tennis champion, as she’s paired with Dani, a 20-year-old from a tennis legacy who’s determined to step out of the shadow and make her own name. Their chemistry? Off the charts. Their dynamic? Addictive.
What really stood out to me is how fleshed out both characters felt—this wasn’t just about the sport, it was about ambition, love, and growth. Honestly, I had such a good time with this book, and it reminded me why I love picking up stories outside my usual comfort zone. 💫
If you want a sapphic sports romance that balances spice, fun, and depth, Breakpoint is a match point win. 🏆

When I first started reading this book, I was a bit skeptical. I wondered if the theme—centered around sports, doubles partnerships, and winning trophies—hadn’t been done too many times before. I was concerned it might feel repetitive or predictable.

However, I was pleasantly surprised.

While the storyline does touch on familiar elements from the world of sports—such as teamwork, competition, and ambition—it offers much more than just the game. The book delves deeply into the personal lives and emotional struggles of the main characters. It explores their inner conflicts, the obstacles they face, and the darker side of fame and success. This added a rich layer of complexity that made the story feel fresh and engaging.

The writing flows smoothly, making it an easy and enjoyable read. The pacing is generally well-balanced, though I found that in some chapters—or between chapters—time would suddenly leap forward, which occasionally disrupted the rhythm of the story. This abrupt passage of time made certain transitions feel a bit rushed or less impactful, which is why I’m giving the book 4 stars instead of 5.

All in all, it’s a compelling and emotionally resonant read that goes beyond the surface of a sports narrative. Definitely worth picking up.

Jaz and Dani’s story is one of highs and lows. The world of professional tennis is not easy to navigate, it’s even harder when you’re falling in love, with a rival.

Candi does a good job taking us into the tennis world. She has written a story that shows the pressures of tennis at that level and all the ways it affects players. Having two strong women as the main characters helps keep you reading. Through the wins and losses, she makes you feel the tension on and off the court.

If you enjoy reading stories based in the world of sports this is a good one! I enjoyed reading Jaz and Dani’s love story. I only gave 4 stars because there were some errors that should have been cleaned up in the editing process. They didn’t keep me from enjoying this story. I hope to read more by Candi and will look for her other work.

4 stars. A really good sports romance. And it’s heavily focused on the sport which I absolutely LOVE. It’s also a damn good rivals to lovers romance. Jaz and Dani were so different from each other and got off on the wrong foot and there’s some tension between them. Jaz is so misunderstood. An Ice Queen who is a lot softer than she portrays and I loved her. Dani took a little longer for me to warm up to but I definitely did in the end. This was a lovely romance and I thought the two of them went through great development and I liked the chemistry between them. This was my first book by Tab but I will for sure be checking out more because this was awesome.

Jaz Mason is a older tennis pro, and has finally had a shot at the Olympics. However it's in doubles tennis, and she has to work with perky noob Dani Kappas.

Dani Kappas has a family legacy in tennis to live up to, and people saying she only got as far as she has on her family name. She wants to prove herself, and resents Jaz for beating her Mom in her final match.

For how huge the Olympics are, it's only covered in a few pages. Weird. We also get Lena, Jaz' ex, who gets a fair bit of setup then just goes away.

Several friends call Jaz out on being into Dani, but she denies it. But at a after party both get a bit too drunk, and something nearly happens.

They date, third act breakup, then happy resolution.

3 out of 5 stars.

This book is an awesome slow-burn romance novel. Dani and Jaz are two amazing characters that are very easy to envision. It gave an enemies to lovers vibe in the beginning, which I love. The writing is very clear and the book is well written. There are a very small amount of lgbtqia+ books that are published, and this one is definitely a worthy read! I can’t wait for the book to release, I may have to get my own copy. This is a book that should definitely be on your tbr list! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The book was just okay. I didn’t care much for the writing style; there were too many flashbacks when it would have made more sense to narrate the events as they occurred. At times, I found it confusing to determine who was speaking, which made me have to go back and re-read sections. Overall, it was primarily an age-gap romance with very little angst. While the book was decent, it just wasn’t for me.

This book was great! Had me laughing, crying, hoping everything would work out for them Jaz and Dani two professional tennis players Jaz approaching the end of her career Dani starting. They’re picked to be doubles partners for the Olympics their initial meeting wasn’t great. Jazz was closed off Dani more an open book. But surprisingly they become friends then something more..

Loved this book so much reading another of the authors books.

This was great! They’re so sweet, and I could feel the pressure of being a pro tennis player! Their relationship was difficult but they’ve grown so much! And their chemistry was amazing!

The spice was good but I felt in some moments it was very preachy with long conversations about media, tennis, being a celebrity.

I also wish they hated eachother for longer lol
