The Fake Commission

Rate this book
THE FAKE COMMISSION is a serious examination of the Great Commission. We live in a day where felt-needs are elevated over Biblical theology among many Christians, ministries and churches. The purpose of this book is to challenge and encourage the serious Christian and the church. Without a correct focus on evangelism and missions, one risks a life of self-deception regarding what real Christian service is. This book does not belabor imprecise terms like “balance” or “moderation” when discussing evangelism and good works – it seeks to be Biblical. When our lives are done, it is the truly Spirit-led obedient believer who will “Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.” (Matthew 25:21).

Half of me wanted to rate this book at one star. You know that fleshly side that really hates being convicted of sin. The other side was screaming, "you really needed to get this right. If you’re going to be a faithful Christian, you’d better start obeying Jesus commands." So, because I know it was really good for me, and will be good for everyone else; it get’s five stars.
This book can be summed up in two quotes… “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” (Matthew 28:19-20) “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)
I really like how he formatted it. It greatly enhanced the power of his message. The Gospel is the heart of our message and he shared it with wonderful clarity right at the beginning. Then, once he had explained what true salvation is, he began teaching what true Biblical missions are and who has the obligation to be a missionary. He deals with a whole host of objections and excuses that are far too common in ‘churchianity’. I was startled to see just how influenced my own thinking had been by the so called ‘social gospel’. Lastly, he gives us some pointers to help in our personal witnessing and explains that effective witnnessing isn't judged on outcome but by whether trueth was shared.
Strohman did an excellent job of using scripture to first strip away the false then build a firm foundation for future missions.
The only thing that bothered me was his use of the NASB. At times I had to go read the passage he was quoting in my own Bible instead of reading it as he printed it. I read out of the KJV and many of the passages were so much weaker in the NASB. If you want my full opinions, read my review of Touch Not the Unclean Thing . I would love to, when I have more time, to reread this and look up all the passages in the KJV.
In his own words …“This book is a call to end the fake commission. In part, it is a call to end going on short-term mission trips to poverty-torn areas with the sole purpose to repair something and not really share the true gospel of Christ. Put an end to posting online photos of you “hanging out” with children to show “how much you care” (especially when you do not know their names). Put an end to saying that you, “are there just to love them” when you have no intention of sharing the gospel of Christ, and thus are content for them to end up in hell. End deceiving yourself that you are obedient to the Great Commission by attending endless Bible studies, men’s groups, women’s groups, youth groups, praise team practices, prayer meetings, board meetings and pot-luck dinners – if they do not have as one of their major objectives to actually leave the church building to spread the gospel.”
It’s worth reading. Just be prepared, to be convicted of sin in your own life.

I was surprised how much I really liked and agreed with this book. It was very convicting and I pray that it corrects my outlook on sharing the gospel with others. Highly recommend.

This book is so relevant and spot-on, that when I finished the first chapter, I immediately started it over. I want to read a third time and take notes. I am gaining such insights in God's actual Word, rather than the "party line" that I've always been taught.

This is a wonderful guide to witnesses for Christ, but also a wake-up call to make Christians cringe about not doing more.

ACCURATELY HANDLES THE WORD OF TRUTH

One of the best explanations of biblical salvation and how to evangelize. Understanding the doctrine of sin is crucial to understanding the plan of Salvation. Do you know what you’re saved from?

Great read by an author bold enough to say what needs to be said. Mr. Strohman doesn't just address problems or make accusations, he points out the how's and why's of what is wrong and gives the appropriate solution; he attempts to teach the reader how to share the gospel and not waste time on fruitless activities.
An invaluable read to anyone that truly desires to serve the Word of our Lord and not just serve church functions.
