Walker: Bossy and the Boots: A Sweet Small Town Cowboy Romcom

Rate this book
Everything in Walker Crawford's life was going just fine . . . until her.

Birdie Stewart came to Utah for love and ended up stranded. Broke, betrayed, and far from home, she’s determined to avoid cowboys while proving she belongs as the Crawford family’s new high-end event planner - even if it means becoming someone she never used to be.

Walker Crawford is big, tall, and not about to let anyone boss him around—especially not the fiery redhead who “borrowed” his mischievous dog. Quick with a comeback and always ready for a challenge, he matches Birdie quip for quip in a constant battle of wills.

Forced into close quarters, their head-butting turns into chaotic moments of support, nonstop banter, and sparks that neither of them planned.

Enemies? Definitely. Opposites? Absolutely. Falling in love? Unplanned, unstoppable, and maybe exactly what they need.

Bossy and the Boots is a kissing only, sweet and clean romance, with all the swoon but no explicit content.

Aspen Hadley loves nothing more than a great story. She has devoted herself to story-telling for the majority of her life, writing her first novel at her kitchen table in the 8th grade. Aspen writes what she wants to read: clean, sassy, romantic comedy novels that give you a break from real life and leave you feeling happy.

Outside of writing, Aspen's number one hobby is reading. Number two is sneaking chocolate into and out of her private stash without being caught. Other favorite things include: playing the piano, listening to classic rock, telling jokes around the dinner table, eating ice cream, traveling, a good case of the giggles, and riding on ATVs over the trails around her home in Utah.

Aspen shares her life with a patient husband, 4 hilarious children, and 1 grumpy dog in a quiet suburb next to her beloved mountains.

Given the choice she would road trip her life away, singing along to the radio and sleeping in every morning.

I was so ready for this story after the hilarious meet-hate between Walker and Birdie in Holden’s book and it did not disappoint. The banter was epic and so much fun, their push and pull was perfect, and the ending was so sweet! Read for super fun forced-proximity, enemies to more, workplace, rancher romance.

All the love for this gem!

After the comical meet-hate between Walker and Birdie in the previous book, I’ve been anxiously waiting for them to get their own story. It was so worth the wait!

The banter was off the charts, and the push and pull between them was perfection. Once they stop hating each other, they both fall pretty fast and hard, and the ride getting there was an absolute delight.

Read if you love—
✨ Enemies to lovers
✨ Forced proximity
✨ by Workplace/Rancher romance
✨ Cute dogs
✨ Kisses only
✨ Dual POV
✨ The sweetest of endings

If you like funny, closed door romance, with a strong family connection and scenic settings, check this one out! It’s book 2 in the series but can be read as a standalone.

Walker was such a flirt in the first book and Birdie was the only girl around who didn’t want to put up with his nonsense. I loved watching them finally see who the other person truly was and see their hearts soften. This book was hilarious and sweet. I can’t wait to see Landry finally get his shot with Kit.

The Brief: Birdie is the event planner at the Crawford Ridge Ranch, but she’s not a fan of Walker Crawford. And totally not afraid to go toe to toe with his larger than life persona.

The Debrief: If you have not read a book by this author then you’re missing out on laugh out loud moments, great banter, and downright swoon. Walker is larger than life and I’m a fan. A big fan. My husband is 6’5” so I’m all about those big impressions. Walker brought all the heart and snark that kept me turning pages. Birdie was his match. Period. Just loved everything about this story and this family.

🤠so much snark

The Rhyme: Walker is not about to let Birdie have the final word, especially around the ranch. But when the dog isn’t the only one following her around can he give love a chance?

Highly recommend this series! Stands alone. Kissing only.

Oh, my laughter. I honestly can say that I have never laughed as hard reading a book as this one. When I BURST out laughing at 4:30 am (old lady, plus lack of time problems) you know it's pure humor.

Snarky? 100% Roasting? Makes cooking Thanksgiving turkey seem like child's play. Nicknames? In abundance. Beautiful descriptions? Made me want to move to a ranch. (Okay- that's a stretch. KNOW someone who lives on a ranch- that's better) Banter? I've never read it's match. Tenderness? Yah, there's some of that, too- but not so much that I rolled my eyes. Yes, that's a common thing for me. (According to my mom, "one day they'll get stuck like that!") Quotable? I have 1/3 of it highlighted.

Now to the actual storyline- Birdie came to Utah for what she thought was love and a handsome cowboy, ends up abandoned, financially broke and emotionally broken. She has sworn off love, especially sweet talking cowboys. She is reduced to a job as a waitress and living in a barely habitable studio apartment. She had to sell her BMW and is driving an old klunker. When a sweet talking, flirtatious cowboy comes to her job one night- she is not impressed. She shuts him down immediately and doesn't give him a second glance. She does however, make friends with a sister in law and eventually ends up helping on the family ranch as an event coordinator for their new business idea. It is what she did in her previous life, and she was good at it.

"I groan as I'm greeted by the sight of a big, black truck announcing the arrival of my personal nemesis- Walker Crawford."

"Glamzilla," he greet greets with a tone that tells me he's thrilled to have found me in a vulnerable state."

"Barnyard Barbie," I retort. "That truck is giving horsepower to compensate for personality."

I knew I was in for a treat. That is on page 12 and it never stops.

Walker, the middle and largest brother, has a reputation for flirting, his long luscious locks of blond hair, and spending hours in his home gym refining his already well defined muscles. He is also a veterinarian and uses that in his ranch work. He is a tease and a lot of fun. Unless of course, he is your nemesis.

The ranch has 3 sons who's banter with each other made me feel right at home. With 3 sons of my own- I get it. They have their different personalities, but all work hard to help their parents and each other. Even though they are all adults and live elsewhere, the family ties are strong. Add in a strong mom with a little bit of sneaky meddling, a father who seems stern but kind, a niece and nephew to add spunk, a sister in law who has been through her own development with her husband, the oldest brother.

"Mama throws up her hand. "You're as bad as two crocodiles fighting over the same zebra!"

On top of all of the fun, there is a cute dog that may have betrayed his owner, a scene of forced proximity, a protective side that only someone who cares will show, a moment of reckoning, a fall setting that I wish I could visit, a bold and hilarious declaration or two, and a tease for the next story in their ranch life that made me gasp out loud. (and maybe a message to the author of 'How Dare YOU?'

If you like fun, heartfelt connections, enemies to more, family connections and a sense of community- give it a read. It is book 2 in the series but can be read as a stand alone as well.

This book was everything I was expecting after Walker and Birdie’s meet cute/hate in Holden’s book. Their witty banter, and nicknames were hilarious. I loved how the banter changed as their feelings softened and they got to truly know each other. Walker has a heart of gold which is exactly what Birdie needs after her world fell apart.

Favorite parts
-Birdie recognizing the difference between the Walker she met in public and the Walker on the ranch.
-Glamzilla vs Barnyard Barbie
-the snowstorm
-Walker seeing Birdie’s needs and helping her fly even when it was difficult
-Walker’s gesture at the end.
-their first kiss— totally made me feel giddy.
-Walker’s jokes were so ridiculous but hilarious
-the wagon ride

Favorite Quotes:
"I've decided on the price you have to pay for me driving you today," he states, and I meet his look expectantly. "For the entire month of December, anytime we both find ourselves in town, you pretend you don't know me. I can't be associated with a car-decorator."
I clap. "Asking me to ignore you is the best Christmas gift you could have given me. I accept."

"I'm going to let Walker have a go of it, even if he has no idea what he's in for."
"He knows, Redbird, and he's looking forward to it."

"Listen, Hoot is great, but you've got to ease me into it."
He’d taken my hands in his bigger ones then. "I get it. Just like I had to ease you into falling in love with me." He threw in a wink.
I’d rolled my eyes. "I'm not in love with you."
He nodded knowingly. "Not ready to admit it yet, that's fine. I'll ease you into that too."
"Please do not attempt to ease me into anything."

ARC REVIEW:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Birdie Steward never expected to find herself living in rural Utah, working for a small family ranch(Crawford Ridge Ranch). With that being said, she is truly grateful to the Crawford family for not only providing her an income, but taking a chance on her as an unknown event planner. The one drawback, she is forced to work alongside Walker Crawford, the town flirt, with eyes set on her. Will Crawford Ridge Ranch offer Birdie a permanent safe haven, or will the city girl be running for the hills the first chance she gets?

Aspens Hadley delivers another stellar read with Walker: Bossy and the Boots!!! The second installment of the Crawford Ridge Ranch Series is the perfect companion to book one, Holden. After being introduced to both Walker and Birdie in the series starter, I was instantly intrigued by their limited interactions. Therefore, when I heard they were getting their own book I was immediately on board.

Hadley proves she is a master of character development with this story. Both Walker and Birdie could have easily remained one-dimensional. Thankfully, the talented writer rounded them out by showing their multifaceted personalities. Together they helped tear down the walls they built to show their deeper and softer sides.

Be sure to read Walker: Bossy and the Boots for:
-small town
-sweet western
-opposites attract
-enemies to more

Special thanks to Aspen Hadley for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

"I will always come for you. There's nowhere you could fly that I'd be afraid to follow."

The Crawford men obsession is real, and Walker’s book is phenomenal! It’s the kind of story you absolutely cannot put down.

"It was probably hard to figure out if it was love or an ulcer.”

Since the moment he appeared in book one, I was desperate to see someone knock Walker off his high horse. Enter Birdie! She delivers, and the sparks are insane! That raw, magnetic tension is there from the very first page and it is relentless. Be warned: this book is an emotional powerhouse! You'll feel the frustration, burst into laughter, maybe grab a tissue, and definitely experience some seriously toe-curling, swoon-worthy moments.

These opposites collide in a spectacular enemies-to-lovers dynamic, which includes fierce, witty, and utterly top-notch banter. Walker and Birdie are a must-read couple! Also, the sneak peek into Landry’s story….oh I cannot wait!! 🤩

‘How do I verbalize that, though? How can I put into words that this is both the best and worst place ever, and I've never been so miserable and totally happy?’

Thank you to the author for my gifted copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Birdie and Walker are a true match of wits.

These two…Glamzilla and Barnyard Barbie (guess who’s who) have the absolute BEST banter! They are both so quick witted and funny. Where Walker sees a spoiled city girl, Birdie is a fiercely guarded, yet determined woman trying to bounce back after heartbreak and abandonment. Where Birdie sees a muscle-bound playboy with luscious locks and too much time to flirt, Walker is a hardworking veterinarian with a heart of gold. I loved seeing them overcome their first impressions and learn to get along. There was almost a switch that got flipped where I could see their interactions change from teases and insults to true banter.

I love this Crawford family ranch. I am not usually into the cowboy/ranch genre but seeing a family full of ranchers love each other for who they are and expressing that love in their own unique ways has me changing my tune more than just a bit. Add in a lovable cattle dog

This enemies to lovers, forced proximity, holiday romance is full of the best dialogue, swoony kisses, and a delightful glimpse into the world of a working ranch. I cannot wait for the last Crawford brother, Landry to get his happily ever after.

“Walker’s like a golden retriever in boots–pretty, loyal, and constantly trying to lick someone.”

It’s no secret that I love a golden retriever and this “barnyard barbie” with the luscious, flowing, blond locks stole my heart in the first book of the series. Not only is he flirty and confident, but Walker can sling the barbs and wit as well as he can fling the muck from a stall–especially when it comes to Birdie. The way these two clash, banter, and thrive on insults provides the setting for a chemistry-drenched swoonfest with all the electric sparks.

I love a romcom with all the hilarious humor, as well as the loveliest lessons. Hadley’s writing is clever and full of sharp wit, with the perfect amount of tenderness to embrace all the warmest of fuzzies. I truly want to visit this working ranch in the middle of nowhere.

I was so excited to take another trip to the Crawford Ridge Ranch in this book. The enemies to lovers trope is so well done in this one. There is plenty of snark and banter between Walker and Birdie. Honestly, this book was everything I wanted it to be!

I loved Birdie. She's been down on her luck. But the Crawford's have taken her under their wing. She's such a creative soul. I would give a lot to be able to see one of her weddings or go to one of her events. It was funny how she was a bit of a bulldozer when it came to Walker. But he definitely deserved it. Cause he was such a pain to her.

Walker is the kind of guy that is used to women falling at his feet. Birdie didn't give him the satisfaction. In fact, she pushes back on him at every turn. And that was fun to watch.

I loved the way these two fall in love, little by little. This book is just so great!

"How dare you burst this bubble with reality?"
She grins. "Good point. Reality is so overrated."

I loved coming back to Crawford Ranch for Walker’s story! There’s so much more to him than you get to see in Holden’s story. His and Birdie’s banter, whether angry or flirtatious, is so good! Although sometimes I wanted to ask them if they really needed to react the ways they did. 😂 This book was also fun because it goes through Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas - all of my favorites! I’m excited to read Landry’s story next!

After their hilarious meet-hate in the previous book I couldn’t wait for Walker and Birdie’s story.

Their story is fantastic. Filled with snark, banter, and tension you could feel, they both know exactly how to get under the other’s skin.

Walker is used to swaggering into any situation and having everyone fawning, but not in arrogant way. He might be my favorite Crawford brother 😉

Birdie is scraping by, trying to survive her first winter in Utah and stay afloat, physically, financially, and emotionally. She’s a fighter. She’s feisty. Naturally, Walker’s carefree attitude grates on her nerves.

The banter and barbs are flying, the chemistry is explosive, the connection undeniable.

These two fight the good fight, but with the backdrop of beautiful (and cold) Utah, the loving (and meddling) Crawford family, and a “matchmaking” dog, their animosity begins to fizzle while their hearts begin to sizzle.

Highlights:
Mildred
Zelda/Moxie
Nicknames
Snowstorm
The roasting

A perfect read when you want to cozy up with a blanket and get lost in story that’ll make you laugh, sigh, and swoon.

Thank you to Aspen Hadley for the copy. All opinions are my own.

Walker and Birdie meet under circumstances that automatically make them dislike each other. Their meet cute is unfortunate, but hilarious. When Birdie gets a job working on Walker’s family farm, he can’t get away from her sas and snarky whit. If you like back and forth banter, between two good people, this one is for you.

I loved watching them slowly take down each other’s walls. I loved their forced proximity. I loved the self reflection. I also loved the setting of a working Utah farm. The romance was done wonderfully as their dislike built up to understanding, commitment, and then love. Another amazing story with lovable characters by this author.

Walker: Bossy & the Boots is the second book in the Crawford Ridge Ranch series. I was so excited to be back on the ranch with the Crawford family!

Birdie has had a tough go at it—broke, betrayed, and very far from home. She is determined to steer clear of all the cowboys, thanks to her cowboy ex, but that’s tough when she is hired on at the ranch as the new event planner. Walker is the middle Crawford brother and a veterinarian who also has a reputation for being quite the flirt. He isn’t one to let anyone boss him around, especially a fiery redheaded event planner. Will they ever be able to stand each other?

Oh my—I laughed so much. The banter is some of the best I have read! I loved Walker’s dog! So funny when he chose Birdie over Walker! Once they got over disliking each other, there sure were some sweet tender moments. I love all the strong family ties, how the brothers work so well together and that the family supports each other. Really, I just love the whole Crawford family!

If you love cowboys, enemies to lovers and all the banter be sure to check this one out! You won’t regret it!

Thank you to the author for the copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.

This book hooked me so quickly, and I didn’t want to put it down! I loved both Walker and Birdie in the previous book in the series, and I hoped they would be the couple for the next book. So I was thrilled to discover that this was their story!

This is just such a fun book! I loved the banter, the characters and how they grew, the romance, and the family side characters. I also really loved the dog! I felt like this story was so heartwarming and sweet, and I adored it.

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
