Brilliant inventor Enzo Dragonbane has plenty to hide, including his secret identity as the recently deceased Ruby King’s bastard son.

But he isn't half as mysterious as Cullen, the half-elf Enzo finds buried in the depths of the kingdom's caverns.

Cullen doesn’t know who he is or how he got to the land of dwarves, and he certainly doesn’t know anything about his strange shadow powers. Memories and magic or not, however, he is about to be swept up in the Ruby Kingdom's brewing civil war. The Ashen, a resistance group made up of the exploited lower class, is poised to take advantage of the power vacuum left by the king’s death.

Soon Enzo and Cullen find themselves in the midst of a revolution. As they untangle Cullen’s past, they discover they have much in common, but if they are to have any hope of a peaceful courtship, they will have to discover the secrets of controlling Cullen’s abilities, take sides in the coming fight, and face up to the truth of who they really are.

Cullen did want to consume. Enzo’s lips. His body. His very being. He wanted it all. So he never had to remember the void.

I really like how you can set apart every kingdom. Each one has its own distinct identity, marked by their traditions and the previous and current kings. I think that is what I enjoyed the most about this installment. Seeing all the movement behind unfairness and how it portrayed that everything might seem okay but it's only because some people try to hide the ugly truth instead of finding a way to solve it. Also, I liked how all the previous MCs got together to try to help. I hope we get to see more interactions between them in the future.

Both, Enzo and Cullen’s sweet personalities made this story one the most insta lovey out of the rest of the series. So if you prefer stories with little to non conflicts between the couple, this one is probably going to be your favorite. However, in my case, I do tend to prefer love stories like the ones in the previous installments. But that’s okay, I know that not every couple/troupe of a series is going to work for me.
After everything they had been through, Enzo and Cullen deserved to be loved and accept the love of the right person.

I am happy to report that I enjoyed this way more than book 3, but, sadly, not as much as book 2. The first two books had the advantage of being set in areas with a level of forced proximity, which worked to their advantage. Opening the stories up to the greater kingdoms made it more difficult for me to suspend disbelief. In this case, that was me rolling my eyes when Enzo said, "SURE, random guy with amnesia I just found in a tunnel, come stay with me (because you're hot)!" It's a little easier for me to roll with it when they're in a curse castle/city and don't have much choice but to be around one another.

Maybe I'm less in the mood for this style of story than when I started this series, but wow, were some of the romantic scenes cheesy. Also, if I had to read Enzo calling Cullen "fair" one more time, I was going to scream. The whole rebellion/royalty plotline was a bit too deep for a story this short and fluffy, so some bits made me roll my eyes. It was the most cliched version of that plot that it could have been, but I'm not sure it would have had the space to be anything else.

It wasn't bad, though, as much as it sounds like I'm complaining a lot. I really did enjoy reading this. The characters from the previous books are still there, but they didn't feel quite as intrusive as they did in book 3. It also made far more sense to have them around because of their prior connection to Cullen, and I did really like the through-line on his plot. It was a nice pay-off from where things started in book 2. Enzo was a good character who I liked quite a lot (though could have done without so many references to his height - I get it, he's half-dwarven, really I do) and particularly his inventions. There was just enough page time to delve into his history and his feelings on it in a satisfying way, which I really liked.

If I reread this series, I'll probably stick to the first two books...but I'm not mad I read this.

3.5 stars rounded up.

What a fantastic story to end a magnificent series. Void Dancer is the finale to the gemstone saga. It's the story of Enzo, the rightful heir to the Ruby throne, and Cullen, the missing prince of Amethyst. The romance and Enzo's willingness to serve the people by creating a better kingdom are the heart of this book. The intensity of who they can and can't trust is the momentum of the plot. And, how all the kingdoms are united by the end is the celebration of all the story threads throughout the series being woven together.

I loved seeing all the couples from the previous books interacting together. It brought me great satisfaction and I would love a collection of short stories of more interactions between all of them -- should such a thing come our way in the future.

If that "Dragon in the caverns waiting the be unleashed" was anything to go by.

The Ruby kingdom like all the other gemstone kingdoms, has a unique culture and people. They seem more technologically advanced in a similar fashion to our world via photography and modern plumbing. I would've liked to know more about the diamond kingdom since that's the one we've spent the least time in throughout the entire series, I believe.

I really like how Cullen's shadow powers work. I love the dynamic between Enzo and Cullen. How both don't want the responsibility of ruling but support each other in doing so because it's for the good of the people, or how they don't hold the past over one another. I

It did bother me slightly that they wouldn't reach out for help from the other royals, but it works out fine with their reasonings in the story because, after all, they don't know them as we the audience do.

On a personal note, I related to Cullen not being able to face the unknown of his past, but I kept wishing for him to push past it much earlier in the story. Possibly because I would make that decision to keep running away even while knowing I shouldn't and even with the knowledge that I'd have to face it sooner or later. I don't like that I procrastinate/run away to cope so it was hard to see him do that because it hit too close to home, maybe? That aside, I really liked the growth Cullen has to go through to become a better version of himself. I just have issues of my own that I definitely need to deal with lmao.

This story was an 8/10 from me. I can't decide which one I like better between the Ice King story and Stitches, so they're kind of tied right now. I will definitely binge-read the entire series to see how it flows with a fresh perspective and to see if it breaks the tie or not.

A spellbinding tale of love and magic

I've been eager to find out if Voidy (aka Cullen) would regain his memories after escaping from the Amethyst gemstone, and his story was every bit the homecoming / rebirth I could have hoped for. Cullen's journey centered around his memories and the shame/guilt/pain that held him back from accessing them. His crowning achievement was learning to trust in himself, accept all the good and bad elements that made up his character, and realize that he was still very much worthy of being loved. As Cullen said himself, it was loneliness that put him in a headspace where he felt swallowed up by the void, and in breaking free of that he became the best version of himself. I found all of Cullen's forms utterly fascinating to experience, from his elven nature to his shadow tendrils and the galaxy held at his core. I loved the imagery Amanda Meuwissen used to describe his shifted state and the way Cullen's emotions were linked to it. The void monster was both a part of Cullen and also a powerful entity barely under his control, and it felt very karmic for Cullen to have to learn to embrace the very thing he used to fear in others.

I can't think of a more perfect counterpart to Cullen than Enzo, the inventor and secret Ruby Prince who the king had never acknowledged. Enzo's core motivation was helping his people, but he found himself at a crossroads between his highborn family and the Ashen, who sought violence for the highborns' wrongdoings. Enzo served as an anchor for Cullen, someone who could stare his true form right in the face and loved him unconditionally. Enzo and Cullen had such a strong connection, and I was delighted by their steamy explorations as men and shadows. Seeing Cullen's powers through Enzo's eyes made them feel every more exciting, and it was impossible not to be drawn in by their journey. As the two of them worked together to bring harmony to the Ruby kingdom, the parallels to Cullen's past were all too real. It warmed my heart to see Cullen and Enzo get the chance to make different choices than Enzo's past self, and the entire kingdom ended up better off for it.

Cullen and Ash's reunion was always going to be a pivotal part of the story, and oh how Cullen did his best to avoid, avoid avoid until the very end. I got very emotional during their heart to heart, and it was so healing to see them each forgive each other for the roles they played in their shared, painful past. There were honestly a ton of moments near the end that got me all in my feels, from seeing the royal families unite together around Enzo to the seriously cool coronation scene and the hidden letter from the king. Even when Enzo could have taken his win as a chance to get revenge, he stayed focused on doing what was right for the people and set aside his personal gripes. The ending of this book feels so full of hope, each of the gemstone kingdoms now connected and changed for the better. The Ruby kingdom still has decades of past disparities to dismantle, but with Enzo at the helm and Cullen by his side, I know their future is bright.

**I voluntarily read an ARC of this book. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.

I loved “Void Dancer”. We finally got to learn more about Cullen who is a very mysterious character. I’ve wanted to know him since “Stitches”.
This tale is different from the others because the Ruby Kingdom isn’t cursed, it progressed more than some of the kingdoms like Sapphire, Amethyst… And the action through the book takes place in Ruby. Even though Ruby is far more advanced in term of technology, there are many inequalities between the poor and richer population. So, I loved the focus on the political struggles and the revolution of the Ashen. Another change is that the king died. Enzo wasn’t recognized because of his roots and I loved that he had to fight for the good of his kingdom to prove himself as a king on whom the people could rely.

I love Enzo’s character. He’s fabulous, kind and so gentle to Cullen. Since the beginning, I was sure he would make a great king. I was so happy when he was recognized by his father and when they came up with the plan to get the inhabitants to vote for him.
Cullen/Voidy is as endearing as Enzo, Voidy was absolutely adorable in the previous book and discovering him in his current form was great. I wanted to protect him so much because he was terrified to remember everything and he thought he was a monster.

On the other hand, I was very frustrated with his constant loss of memories at the beginning, I wanted him to know that he isn’t a monster at all. What happened with Ash was an accident, it was sad that he couldn’t accept Ash’s difference at that time but he learned from his mistakes. Cullen said several times in the book that he is a coward but for me, he isn’t a coward at all, for example when he couldn’t control his power, he always stopped before maiming an innocent. I like that he embodies the shadows. The term Void Dancer is very accurate. His power is indeed impressive.

I liked the opposition between Enzo and Cullen. The later never wanted to become the Amethyst king. On the contrary, Enzo thought he wasn’t worthy of the task but he accepted it because he wished he could change things.

Ashmedai is still my favorite character in the series but I think Enzo and Cullen might be my favorite couple in the Gemstones series (with Ashmedai and Levi). Their relationship is so sweet and thoughtful. The sexual scenes were spicy and beautiful and Voidy/Cullen controlling himself during these moments was lovely. It’s certainly my favorite tale of the Gemstones Kingdoms so far.

I was also happy to see our previous lead characters again in this book, they all helped Enzo to get voted. All the kingdoms are reunited and free of any curse, it’s awesome! Plus, they’re all friendly to each other.
I was so afraid to see the repercussions of Ash and Cullen’s past. So, I was relieved when they reunited and became friends again. The scene in which Cullen regained his memories and announced to be Ash’s friend was so beautiful and moving, it almost made me cry.
Nemirac and Janskoller also like Voidy so much, it was so cute to notice.

I clearly recommend this book, and the ending was very intriguing, I can’t wait to know more about the dragon.

CWs and CNs at the end

*Spoilers for previous books in the series*

Amanda Meuwissen’s fairy-tale-inspired series continues to entertain with the fourth book in the instalment, this time focusing on a character we have, in some way, seen since the second book of the series. The memory of Prince Cullen of the Amethyst Kingdom loomed large over Ashmedai’s arc and it was the most delicious twist to realize that some essence of the Prince was still stuck inside the Amethyst when Nemirac stole the gem in book 3. Now, finally free of his shiny prison, Cullen can start anew…except for the pesky fact that he has no memories of who he was and where he was from.

I think what I loved most about his novel was Cullen’s self-journey. Much like the rest of the series, often for each character, their biggest antagonist is some part of themselves. And *Void Dancer* was exceptionally moving in depicting Cullen’s hesitance, his anxiety and his guilt even if he couldn’t quite remember why he felt that way. The way this all manifested as part of his amnesia was one of the ways I like how this storytelling device was utilised, and it worked really well as a way of highlighting Cullen’s emotional journey.

In addition to this, the love story was so adorable and swoony. Enzo’s immediate attraction towards Cullen and his unending kindness in helping a lost stranger was so charming and it was truly a delight to watch these two become closer and closer. I also have to say, this was without a doubt, some of my favourite intimate scenes and Meuwissen works in Cullen’s magical abilities in such a way that made it extra sexy and sensual. I also loved that Enzo could lean on Cullen as he went on his own emotional arc of reconciling his birthright and claiming his legacy in the Ruby Kingdom.

Finally, I also really loved seeing all the characters we have come to love so far in the series make an appearance. In their own ways, they all had a stake in Cullen and Enzo’s love story and it was delightful to see them connect or reconnect with the erstwhile former prince of the Amethyst Kingdom.

Such a fun, five-star read and I’m now so excited for the final book in this series!

CWs: poverty and depictions of certain groups being treated as second-class citizens, insurrections; grief; death of parents; amnesia-induced trauma and anxiety.

CNs: This is the fourth novel in a fairy-tale-inspired series and while it can be read as a stand-alone, it would be more enjoyable to read in sequence. This book deals with an amnesia trope and also contains several on-page sex scenes.

(Fair) Cullen & (Handsome) Enzo

"I would have no other, void dancer, for your darkness is a warm embrace, and your light shines there too."

"True monsters could take any form, for evil was in a person's heart not their visage."

Enzo was his savior first, then his friend, then his lover. These two had to be tentative with their connections with all of the difficulties that Cullen seemed to be having with his mysterious magics. It was heartbreaking to watch Cullen try to retrieve his memories while at the same time avoiding the pain that those memories were causing his mind and body.

I know I've said this in just about every story from Amanda I have read, but the visuals in this story were incredible. I could feel the hot and cold of Cullen's shadow tendrils, and even describing all of Enzo's creations and inventions were vivid. The scene at the end with all of the kingdoms' leaders is one that stands out because of the sheer color and depth of the imagery.
I will also add that the scenes between Enzo & Cullen of a more physical nature were some of the most interesting and descriptive sex scenes I think I've read. Cullen's shadow magic is incredible and potent, considering he did not have it before his time in the Amethyst, or at least no real access to it to his knowledge.

You definitely can't fully understand Cullen's past and his challenges without at least reading both Stitches and The Bard & The Fairy Prince before delving into this story. Those two books have enough of Cullen's storied past to fill in the gaps that could be confusing if you read this on its own.

Void Dancer was a beautiful story of a would-be prince getting a second chance at his life and righting past wrongs (even ones not caused by him) while falling in love. I loved the peaceful way that Enzo & Cullen interacted for the most part. Theirs is a slow-burn love, but it was the perfect pace for them and their story. Enzo's calm and serenity helped Cullen find his way, and that really made the story feel more composed, even in the many times of calamity. I've loved the ongoing interaction between the MCs across the Tales from the Gemstone Kingdoms, and I'm really curious and excited to experience the final book in the series once it has been re-released.

I received an authorized copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.

Prince Cullen of House Ametista, the Amethyst Prince, didn’t want the throne, back in those days.
In all his vulnerability, and grieving his father’s death, Prince Cullen got betrayed by people he thought of as friends.

Now he’s stuck in the caverns, until Enzo the inventor found him. He lost his memory and only knows his name is Cullen. The sweet dwarf Enzo takes him home.

They are more alike than they know. Later in the story, you’ll understand.

Enzo understands Cullen is full of power, Cullen only knows he’s a beast, and he’s afraid of his own power. Enzo’s faith in him is a step to start a process of healing.

“The memories hurt, Enzo. So much fear and pain and guilt. I… I think I must have done something awful. I think I deserve to have forgotten, to be forgotten—”

Fair Cullen and Handsome Enzo, what a couple. There’s a sweet and solid romance growing between them. They try to prevent a civil war, the King is dead, and there are forces who want to claim the throne.

To be honest, I lost the timeline a bit. While reading I tried to remember what happened to Cullen in the previous stories, and how long he was in the shadows, I was reading with one half and trying to remember about previous events with the other half of my brain, yes it hurt, lol.

There are a few plot lines, Cullen’s journey where he has to face his memories and finally remember and acknowledge who he really is, and Enzo’s journey where he also finally acknowledges who he is and has to be. There’s also their sweet romance and the story around the future of the Ruby Kingdom.

It was wonderful to meet all the characters from the Gemstone Kingdoms again.
The magic, and certainly Cullen’s shadow side was just amazing! Their romance was sweet.
The events were entertaining, just as the writing. The whole series piece by piece recommendation worthy!

Void Dancer by Amanda Meuwissen is book 4 in the Tales of the Gemstones Kingdom series. We knew that Cullen’s story was best based upon what happened in book 3 and this may be my favorite of the series. I really loved both characters (Cullen and Enzo). Both of them deserved someone to be there to support them. Cullen suffered for so many years trying to remember who he was and how he came to be a “void dancer” as Nemaric called him. When he meets Enzo, he found the safe place he needed. Enzo was mourning the father who never acknowledged him. Both of them are drawn to each other and they made such a great pair! The spicy scenes were the best of the series and I felt the connection between them clearly. I loved seeing all the old characters and how they came together to solve the overarching plot. Everything fit together so well. I really loved it. I wonder how the next book will fit into the series since it happens several decades after this one. This should not be read as a standalone, and I highly recommend this!

Cullen is such a deeply interesting character that it’s super tempting just to focus this review on how compelling he is, for any number of reasons, but I won’t because 1) spoilers are the worst and readers deserve to discover his nuances for themselves and 2) there are so many other lovely things in this story as well. I loved the care and creativity of the world building, and the chance to see the Ruby kingdom, different from others in the series but not without its challenges as well as attractions, was much appreciated. Enzo is a delight on his own terms, and together he and Cullen just *work* on a level that’s full of care and sweetness as well as chemistry. There’s a chance, for readers of previous books in the series, to see some familiar faces. And there’s a plot that keeps pages turning (vague, I know, but spoilers really are the worst, so just trust me when I say it’s an easy narrative to get pulled into). Well worth a read.

Stitches is my favorite book in the series so I went into this a little prejudiced against Cullen for how he hurt Ash/reacted to his true self. Cullen's story can be read as a standalone because the introduction really sets the stage, but I think it's best read after at least reading Stitches, but there are cameos from other books too, so better to read the story in order.

At first Cullen comes off as a bit spoiled and a bit whiny. He didn't win me over for a while, but we got there. Seeing those early days and how he ended up in the void helped me understand him a lot better. It was also gratifying that Amanda brought in the characters from previous books so Ash and Cullen got some closure.

Cullen and Enzo are both incredibly sweet and have both struggled because of their connections to royalty but for very different reasons. Cullen was particularly well experienced to help Enzo and Enzo was the anchor Cullen needed.

I liked the story and I am curious for the next and final book of the series.

This was another good addition to the Gemstone Kingdoms series and I think this one is best read in order since all the characters from the previous stories show up for a pivotal moment. Enzo is the unacknowledged heir to the Ruby Kingdom. He's not set to inherit it but his father is the current ruler. He finds Cullen in a cave and Cullen has no prior knowledge of who he is. Through a movement to bring the plight of the underprivileged to light along with Enzo's father passing away and a need to find a new leader, these two form a really strong bond. There's instant chemistry but the romance didn't feel rushed. I enjoyed this book, but for some reason I had a hard time getting through. What usually take me a couple of days ended up taking me much longer. I think it's just me personally and nothing to do with the pacing or characters of the story. It's perfect for anyone who loves D&D or fantasy stories!

3.5

The story just didn't have as much oomph as the last books did, and I didn't really feel the chemistry between the main characters. This book fell flat in the way everything seemed like a matter of circumstances and convenience, and I ended up only liking it more when we finally got interactions with the characters from the past books. It ended up feeling more like a prequel for the next book as well as a means to make cameo appearances for the main couples from the other books, and I just feel like it doesn't hold up against the others, especially since barely anything happens over all which is strange since the books previous had similar page counts and managed to accomplish much more than this one did.

This is book 4 in the series and should be read in order as you get to meet the characters in the previous books. Enzo, an inventor, is in the caves of the ruby gemstone when he hears a noise. He sees someone on the ground and helps him up. Cullen can only remember his name and feels pain in his head when he tries to remember his past. I loved how Enzo helps Cullen as they slowly start to develop feelings for each other. We get to meet the characters from the other books and Ash who helps with Cullen as well. I loved the pace of this book and cannot wait to read the final one, especially since it has a dragon.

Another fun read in the Gemstone Kimgdoms series!
This book really tied all of the previous books together, with many of our favorite couples showing up! And there’s a new budding romance…Cullen and Enzo. Both men are at a loss as to where to go next, but in very different ways. Enzo knows the Ruby Kingdom needs a change, as there are people on the streets who can barely feed themselves. As an inventor, he does what he can to make their lives easier, but he wants to do more. He is the son of the late king after all. The one problem? No one knows he’s the Ruby prince, the king’s illegitimate son.
Cullen was on the precipice of becoming the Amethyst King, a position he’s so afraid of because he doubts his ability to rule. A fall into the veil changes everything for him, especially when he comes to in a cave, with no memory of his former life. Luckily, a handsome inventor is there to help him through.
With unrest and threats of revolution in the air, Enzo and Cullen know they have to work together to save the kingdom, and make it a better place.
This was no slow burn, these two jump right into the fire! They have an instant attraction, but that’s not all it is. They are so kind and supportive of each other, and believe in each other, even when they don’t believe in themselves.
Thanks so much to Amanda for this arc!

Cullen’s story! His story is so intertwined with that of other characters I love that I knew it would be good. I also loved the cameos from other characters here. I admit I love Levi and Ash quite a bit. Anywho, this story is so good! All the Gemstone Kingdoms books are worth a read, but please read them in order. Cullen can’t fully recover who he is until he accepts his memories and all the circumstances that brought him to the Ruby kingdom and Enzo’s side. And Enzo has a rebellion to help or stop and fix a kingdom teetering on the brink of either disaster or salvation.

Cullen and Enzo story was exciting with a couple of surprises, old friends that joined the cause, and a new king to be crowned.
It’s Cullen's turn to find his happiness after long years of suffering and a mistake that was twisted for nefarious purposes.
I loved their moments together and the way they balanced each other to being their better selves.
It had danger and adrenaline, but also forgiveness and self-discovery.
It was a story I enjoyed, and I’m looking forward to the next adventure.

In another Gemstone Kingdom tale, Cullen is freed from his jewel imprisonment not remembering anything but his name. Enzo, an alchemist, inventor with a secret in his origin finds him and brings him to his home. Cullen has become a Void Dancer and can protect and aid Enzo. It's another quest filled with adventure, intrigue, magic and love. These stories are fairy tales with that extra touch and flair that make them unique for lovers of fantasy. I received a copy of this and this is my voluntary opinion.

Enzo has secrets that need to stay that way. When he finds Cullen he has something else to contend with. Cullen doesn't know much and that includes his name. These two are dealing with a lot and now they're being drawn into the Ruby Kingdom's war. Their insta-love was a little fast for me but I did like them as a couple. I like how each kingdom is individually different. I liked the previous characters making cameos. This book didn't quite have the tension the previous books had but sometimes an easier romance without a lot of complications is nice too. Nice addition to the series.

Another wonderful tale in the series

I have loved this series right from the start. Stitches was my top-ranked story so far. The Void Dancer has outdone it. Enzo and Cullen are adorable and vulnerable characters with sizzling chemistry between them. The fantasy elements have been woven so intricately into the story.

***3.5*** like the whole series
Interesting world and interesting characters. I enjoyed the cameos and the mystery elements. Every "world" or kingdom as it were has its unique characteristics, people and traditions. I have to say that the Shadow kingdom is still my fav. I mean, you can change into another creature while being their 🤯

Fantastic story

This is the fourth book in this amazing series and you should really read the others first for your full enjoyment. All of the characters were fascinating and the world building is absolutely amazing. The twists and turns weaved together so seamlessly and beautifully that I truly didn’t want it to end.

While the first two books in this series will definitely remain my favourites, this was a very good addition to the series. The various kingdoms are amazingly different, and it was very touching that all the rulers came together to support Enzo to help make all the kingdoms better for everyone. Cullen's powers were beautifully written, I could really picture the colours and tendrils.

There's amazing world building, lots of twists and turns, fast-paced action, adventure, magic and political machinations, and intrigue.

The Ruby Kingdom's war was an exciting backdrop to Enzo and Cullen's journey. I really enjoyed watching as they were drawn to each other, they both deserved to have that special someone in their corner. This was a fantastic addition to the series.

*I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book*

Oh Voidy, I love he gets his own story and a great one! Death, painful memories a rebellion and a reunion of the gemstone kingdoms. And dragon dick references LOL
