Ivy has spent too long hiding old shame behind polished smiles and tight control, making herself look untouchable so no one sees how badly the past still owns pieces of her. When the ex who helped ruin her life comes back to town acting like he still has a claim on her, panic pushes her into Colt’s arms, and one desperate kiss changes everything. What starts as a temporary arrangement to keep danger at a distance turns into something neither of them can keep pretending away.
Colt has been treating Montana like a place to hide, not a place to stay, and Ivy makes that lie impossible to keep telling. The closer they get, the more their fake relationship starts exposing real need, real fear, and a level of trust neither of them knows how to handle cleanly. He offers protection, but what grows between them is more than that. It becomes a bond built on restraint, longing, and the terrifying hope that maybe neither of them has to keep surviving alone. When pressure closes in, desire stops being the only thing between them, and what takes hold is far more intimate and dangerous.
Ivy learns to want safety, intimacy, and a future that doesn’t depend on staying guarded. Colt stops treating both Montana and Ivy as temporary and starts choosing love as something worth building his life around. Their relationship shifts from protective chemistry and a fake arrangement into real trust, mutual desire, and the kind of closeness that asks them both to stop hiding.
A hot, emotionally intense small-town cowboy romance about reclaiming your life after damage, learning to trust love when safety feels unfamiliar, and facing the past without letting it define you. Through danger, desire, and the pull of something real, it becomes about agency, belonging, emotional honesty, and finding the courage to stay when running would be easier.
The Elevator Pitch: When a woman who’s spent years surviving her past grabs the nearest safe man and kisses him in panic, a fake relationship begins to expose the truth neither of them is ready to face. He’s a cowboy only passing through, she’s a woman determined not to break again, and what grows between them is equal parts shelter, hunger, and risk. As old danger closes in, they have to decide whether love is just another threat to survive or the first place either of them can finally stay.
Colt Calhoun the hottie cowboy comes to the rescue of Ivy when faced with her ex. What comes next is a heat between the sheets delight . No sleeping on the ranch that night. One kiss and she was his….Well, not quite but it doesn’t take long when they’re fake dating but end up slaking their thirst . Kiss first rescue later ….When in a cosy cabin for two he slays her….Of course this is an awesome story penned by the great Zee Irwin who always satisfies. Leaving us with sighs .
Perhaps Montana has more to offer than a temporary home, because when he’s with Ivy he feels warm inside . He tried his best because although he has feelings ,he’s not been revealing as this is just a temporary dwelling . Off Duty Ranch isn’t his forever home ,he’s ready to roam. She felt a need to be by his side in his protection . It’s of her he feels affection. Ivy Wylde has gotten under his skin as well as the sheets with him..So maybe she IS home….
Ivy was having herself some fun at her friend’s wedding then he shows up ,her ex and what happened next was better than she could ever comprehend with Colt the cowboy who was her friend ,acquaintance at best but when they shared a kiss ,she hitched her breath… Fake as all heck to show her ex that she was taken. What a turn ,this night had taken…
One kiss and this mountain man insist he’s hers.Shows he cares and gets some stares as the room stirs. Just imagine what they can achieve from this make believe. This is meant to be ,if only he wasn’t moving on. If he was to have something going on ,he’d have it with this woman because she has his heart thrumming.
When someone tries to run them off the road ,they take to sheltering in a remote cabin in the mountain. One thing leads to another and oh brother! Phew 😮💨
Well I don’t have to state the obvious ,that the spice was more than nice and it wasn’t exactly a sacrifice to him. He was all in and wanting to settle down. A roaming rancher no more . He’s talking their own front door to a cabin of amour.Because it’s Ivy he finds ,he does want more and more . And Ivy in turn has a yearn for he and it’s ecstasy.
Nice one Zee , I loved this book so much you see and it has your own special touch, when we settle down to read this book that has flavour and fervour by the wagon load . Horses for courses and their love making overload. I love Joey but ooh whee what Colt does to me….
Ivy Whyte got her delight alright and I was all in for their sin and thinking of him sinking in… Settling down too, love these cowboys of Montana I do! Ooh perhaps the next step will be an I do. That would certainly follow and Colt would define himself a lucky fellow if that was to be . Cos he really loves Ivy…Alpha heat between the sheets but on Ivy he’s sweet ,a cinnamon roll. And I loved being here for it all.
This book has pizazz and heat on repeat,it also has a beautiful story that’s real sweet and all and with this book I had a ball. This is the rundown and as you can see . This romantic suspense trope gives us all hope of an happy ever after. They went all summer being good friends . In the end the friendship has grown, blown up and bloomed. This hero of the hour gives her power to be who she wants to be. And by his side is where she yearns to be . Thanks Zee Irwin for a brilliant story and my heart was stirring and of these awesomely wrote characters I was caring.
Fake Dating Romance / Friends to Lovers Cowboy / Western Ranch Romance Military Veteran Wounded Hero Small-Town Montana Romance Forced Proximity (Cabin in the Woods / One Bed) He Falls First and Hard Ex Returns / Romantic Suspense
*The Spice Is Nice* is the second book in the Alphas Fall Hard series. I absolutely love the fake dating romance between Ivy and Colt, where the lines between them slowly start to blur, and their feelings have always been very real. After leaving home, Ivy returns determined to start over and put her past behind her. Meanwhile, Colt, fresh out of the military, is trying to find his way home, but before he can do that, he ends up at the Off Duty Rescue Ranch, grappling with a past he isn’t ready to face just yet.
Ivy’s past comes back unexpectedly, causing a lot of problems in town. Together, Ivy and Colt support each other as they work through their issues and ultimately find their happily ever after. Once again, Zee has done an amazing job crafting a heartfelt and emotional journey filled with cute, fun-loving banter between Colt and Ivy and just the right amount of spice. This engaging story will have you hooked from beginning to end, along with a touch of suspense. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in the series!

Ivy was at her friends wedding, having fun with her sisters. This was only until her ex entered into the bar she was at. She wanted to do with him since he was arrested for beating up a guy. She tried thinking what to do, and then she spotted Colt, a gorgeous cowboy. He was her friend but in that moment she needed to do something to sent her ex away. So she did the first thing she thought of and grabbed Colt from his shirt and started kissing him, Colt went along with her. When they stopped, her ex was in front of them trying to stir something up but the helpers of the Ranch were ready to fight ,so he went away.
Colt after the navy had stopped at Forest Grove, where his friends were staying . He was working at the Ranch as he had something to accomplish. The population began to decrease over time in Forest Grove and Ivy came with the idea to organize a cowboy night every Friday so that people come to meet their match and eventually they create a family together in forest grove. This was a great idea to increase the population.
Her ex continued to obsess over Ivy and Colt came up with the idea to fake a relationship with her.
This book had me in its grip from the first line and didn’t let up the pressure until the last line. And I say thank you, can I have more?! This story was a hot mess of tension and danger and romance. Colt and Ivy are amazing together. Their connection and chemistry could melt steel. I was so invested in this relationship that I should probably talk to someone about it. The protectiveness Colt has for Ivy is intense and it makes their situation that much more endearing. They both carry damage from the past and what they find in each other is precisely what they needed. Add in some amazing banter and touch her and die energy and it’s everything I need too. And that ending…I was left feeling satisfied and with a warm feeling in my chest.
Spice Is Nice delivers exactly what I want from a snowed‑in, forced‑proximity romance: instant chemistry, a protective mountain man who falls hard, and a heroine rediscovering her confidence. I loved the tight pacing and the way the emotional and physical tension build together.
I appreciated that Zee Irwin gives us just enough to understand Ivy and Colt without slowing the momentum or crowding the central relationship. The focus stays exactly where it should--on two people finding safety, desire, and connection in the middle of a storm.
In the last book that I reviewed by Zee, I mentioned that second chance was my least favorite trope--stepping in to make an ex back off--one of my favorites! As i said, this book delivers!.

The blend of danger and romance here is rich and intoxicating. Ivy and Colt made a truly impeccable couple that had me passionately invested super quickly. The attraction and chemistry between them was very powerful and exceptional potent. Added into the mix are plenty of emotions, rock-solid feels, drama, tension, heart, action and spice that will have you devouring this book while keeping you right on the edge of your seat.
Colt is only in Montana temporarily but then Ivy grabs him and kisses him and life suddenly changes. Ivy already was starting to have feelings for Colt but when her ex showed up she grabbed him and the fake dating began. This book is about finding each other and is full of sweet, swoony moments and love that develops whether they were looking fo it or not. This is a really excellent read. I can’t wait for book 3.

A really entertaining and steamy fake relationship story between Ivy and Colt, they took fake love to another level. An enjoyable and heartwarming read that I just couldn’t put down. Great MCs,these alpha males when they fall they fall hard. Highly recommend this book.
I enjoyed this story, how the protagonists evolved from friends to a couple, and everything in between: families, friends, dealing with dangerous situations.

My absolute go to author Zee Irwin has written another wonderful story about the ODRR and Forrest Grove. Spinning together the tropes of fake dating, one cabin one bed and he falls first with a large dose of angst and insecurities with a fairy godmother wand to absolute perfection. There is love, heat, danger and heartbreak on every page and it’s written so well that you cannot put the book down. Loved every minute of it.

Ivy and Colt were so good in this story. Neither of them ever expected one kiss to lead to so much more. I loved the fireworks that kiss set off. And there wasn’t anyone more deserving than those two. I loved this small town, one bed, steamy romance.
From the first book I was intrigued by the Wylde sisters and this book focuses on Ivy and Colt. Ivy returned to town after leaving with Seth and his subsequent imprisonment. Colt came to the Off Duty Rescue Ranch after leaving the military dealing with the guilt after the loss of his close friend. When Seth returns to town Ivy and Colt come up with a plan of a fake relationship to keep Seth away.
I loved their story. Both are dealing with their pasts while trying not to hurt their loved ones. Both afraid of not being enough. Plus the threat of Seth and his family added tension and suspense.
Once Ivy and Colt faced their pasts they were able to figure out how to make their relationship work. Even though they were scared they worked together and the town helped when they needed them. Ivy found strength and I just rooted for her. Colt was so protective and supportive. Once he faced his demons he was all in.
If you love small town romance, ex military hero, woman with a past, found family, suspense, fake romance tropes then give this a try. I can’t wait to continue on with Daisy & Knox!.

When Ivy's ex comes back to town, She kisses Colt. They start a fake relationship that don't stays fake, I loved the action, mystery and suspense and the chemistry between Colt and Ivy is wonderful, I loved it
The Spice is Nice is the second book in the Alphas Fall Hard series. In this slow burn story we have Ivy Wilde and Colt Calhoun navigating their feelings for each other as danger comes to Forest Grove. What starts as a friendship changes with a kiss. I was cheering as they found what they didn’t know they needed in each other. The emotion is balanced by the humorous moments that had me chuckling. Enjoyed the small town vibe, the bits of angst, sizzling moments, siblings and friend dynamics, heart stopping edges, and found family support. I can always count on a good solid romance read from Zee Irwin.
Loved it! This is the second book in the series set on the Montana Off-Duty Rescue Ranch which features ex military man Colt and Ivy and also happens to be interconnected with the It Happens series. A great read and catch up with other characters this story that started out as a fake relationship was emotional at times, also fun with plenty of banter and spice. Add in tension and danger and this was an excellent all round story that kept me engaged. I loved the characters and look forward to more stories in this series.
Finding home I just love the Wylde sisters. Ivy was trying to prove her place, Colt thought he was just passing through, but these two were drawn to each other and the ODRR had a way of healing more than just horses. This is an action packed, emotional, sweet and steamy story. It’s full of wonderful characters, humour, banter and romance. There’s some drama, danger, blackmail and sabotage and couple of twists. I loved the connection to the “It Happened” series and can’t wait for the next instalment.
What starts as a fake kiss to make her ex think she’s moved on Ivy doesn’t realize that she has now become Colts real girlfriend. Seth her ex is back from prison and wants her back. He is not a nice guy and she wants to be as far away from him as she can be. With the help of Colt and the Off Duty Ranch crew Ivy is safe and Seth is back where he belongs !
I just really enjoy reading Zee Irwin stories! Her characters draw you in & make you a part of their lives! I always end up binge reading because I can't put the book down! The crossover of characters from other Zee series is a big bonus! The Alphas Fall Hard stories live up to their titles! Not just romance either-there's suspense & shenanigans!
The Spice Is Nice by Zee Irwin is a heartfelt, steamy small-town romance that perfectly blends danger, tenderness, and the irresistible charm of a fake relationship that quickly becomes anything but pretend. With protective cowboy energy, emotional healing, and just the right amount of suspense, this story pulls you in from the very first page.
Ivy Wylde has worked hard to rebuild her life and reputation in her Montana hometown. She’s determined not to let the mistakes of her past define her future. But when her controlling ex unexpectedly returns to town acting like he still has a claim on her, Ivy knows she needs a way to keep him at a distance.
Her solution? Grab the closest trustworthy man and kiss him.
That man happens to be Colt Calhoun.
Colt is a cowboy staying temporarily at the Off-Duty Rescue Ranch while working through the emotional scars left by his time in the military. He’s steady, protective, and quietly carrying guilt from a past he’s still trying to face. The last thing he expects is to be pulled into a fake relationship in the middle of town—but once Ivy asks for his help, he’s all in.
What begins as a simple act to keep her ex away quickly turns into something deeper. The chemistry between Ivy and Colt is immediate, and their playful banter makes every interaction between them feel natural and fun. Yet beneath the humor and attraction lies something more meaningful: two people trying to move forward from painful pasts.
As Ivy starts investigating why her ex has suddenly returned, the danger surrounding them begins to grow. When a storm leaves them stranded together in a remote cabin—with only one bed and a crackling fire for warmth—the tension between them becomes impossible to ignore.
By morning, it’s clear their feelings are no longer pretend.
One of the most compelling parts of this story is how Ivy and Colt support each other. Ivy is strong, determined, and fiercely independent, while Colt’s protective instincts make him the kind of hero readers love to root for. Watching them slowly break down each other’s emotional walls creates a romance that feels both passionate and heartfelt.
The Off-Duty Rescue Ranch setting adds even more charm to the story. The sense of brotherhood among the ex-military cowboys and the tight-knit small-town community make the world feel rich and welcoming, while the suspense involving Ivy’s ex keeps the plot moving at a thrilling pace.
If you enjoy fake dating romances, protective cowboy heroes, forced proximity in cozy cabins, and small-town love stories with a touch of suspense, The Spice Is Nice is an engaging and emotional read you won’t want to put down.
Because sometimes the relationship that starts as pretend… turns out to be exactly the love you’ve been waiting for all along.

Well Zee Irwin has done it once again! She’s once again written a delightful, sexy alpha protector cowboy sweet and spicy romance that kept me up way past my bedtime. This is undoubtedly my favorite theme for her writings and I can’t get enough of these alpha protective Off-Duty Rescue Ranch (ODRR) cowboys and the women who love their cowboys. But wait they aren’t just cowboys, they are ex-military cowboys who have been fractured but trust me they definitely aren’t broken. And these fiery, independent women with grit and sass can take on the world but melt into a puddle with just one word or one touch from their cowboys. She also knows how to wrap a villian up into the mix to give the book plenty of intrigue and a perfect balance between the suspense and the spice. In this book Colt Calhoun has ventured to ODRR as a means of coming to terms with the guilt he feels over the loss of his buddy Petty Officer Caleb Hollis while abroad the USS Hilton and to confess his failures to protect Caleb to the Hollis family. Along with that he’s got a big distraction in the form of one of the four Wylde sisters and his particular distraction is Ivy is runs Wylde West Outfitters and is President of Forest Grove Chamber of Commerce. The problem is that Colt knows he’s only in Forest Grove temporarily and Ivy is not looking for a relationship after making some terrible decisions in that area before. But when Ivy’s menacing ex-boyfriend suddenly reappears in town she quickly pulls Colt in for protection and he’s all in to do so. As threats increase the two decided they need to enter into a fake relationship for her protection and to stop potential matchmaking for Colt. Yeah, we all know what fake romances turn into…oh….but this one is a definite delight. As an added bonus, ODRR Cowboy Knox has it bad for Wylde sister Daisy but she’s not having it with any of his ironed dress shirts and extra added cologne no matter how many times he tries…yet stay tuned because the tough horse farrier may just surprise you when the danger gets too close. Once you’ve read the book be sure to click on the extended epilogue because this one is well worth going the extra trouble to get it. Yeah, Zee Irwin has done it once again!.

A Fake Romance That Turns Real in the Best Possible Way
Zee Irwin delivers exactly what I love in a small‑town cowboy romance: heart, heat, and a couple who feel like they were always meant to collide. The Spice Is Nice takes the classic fake‑dating setup and gives it real emotional weight, thanks to two characters who are both trying to outrun their pasts in different ways.
Ivy is instantly relatable—a woman who’s finally stopped running, only to have her past show up on her doorstep with trouble written all over it. Her decision to grab Colt and kiss him in front of half the town is chaotic, bold, and honestly kind of perfect for who she is. She’s strong, but she’s tired of being pushed around, and that moment is her drawing a line in the sand.
Colt, meanwhile, is the kind of cowboy hero who sneaks up on you. He’s steady, respectful, and carrying his own quiet wounds. His time at the Off‑Duty Rescue Ranch was supposed to be temporary, but the way he steps into Ivy’s life—protective without being overbearing, supportive without trying to take over—makes it clear he’s already more invested than he wants to admit.
Their chemistry is undeniable, but what really hooked me is how they show up for each other when things get dangerous. The suspense thread adds just enough tension to keep the pages turning, especially once Ivy starts digging into why her ex is back and things take a darker turn. The storm, the run‑off‑the‑road moment, the one‑bed cabin… it all feels like the perfect blend of romance and adrenaline.
And by the time morning comes in that cabin, it’s obvious the “fake” part of their relationship has completely fallen apart.
The Montana setting is the cherry on top—wide skies, rugged ranch life, and a small town that feels lived‑in and real. If you love protective cowboys, strong heroines, and fake dating that melts into something genuine, this book is a cozy, suspense‑kissed treat.

Second Chances The ODRR (Off-Duty Rescue Ranch) in Forest Grove, Montana sounds like an amazing place of healing, love and growth. If you haven’t read any of the previous books that talk about the ODRR, boy are you missing out. Colt is ex military, but are they ever truly ex military? When he ends up at the ODRR he thinks it’s just a stop over before heading home but will he find home in Forest Grove instead? The Wylde sisters are a staple in town and serve in all kinds of capacities. Farrier, baker, shop owner, student and many other positions but when they accept you then you are like family. Ivy runs a western wear store and is President of The Chamber of Commerce. She’s also running from her past but her past is about to run right back into her and definitely not in a good way. When the sparks between Colt and Ivy finally catch fire then Forest Grove is in for a few explosions! Can they survive everything that’s happening or will it break them both? Can Forest Grove survive the return of Seth Brewster? A known entity with a side of danger is what he is. I definitely cannot wait to hear about Daisy and Knox!❤️
Ivy is President of the Chamber of Commerce. Colt is in town temporarily and is friends with Ivy. They are at someone’s wedding when her ex rolls in. He’s not a very nice guy. She grabs Colt and kisses him. She wants him to play along. Will this eventually turn into something real? Colt will have to decide if he wants to stay in town. One thing after another happens-a motel room, a truck in a ditch-where it seems Colt and Ivy’s fake dating relationship may become more, and a fence cutting/horses loose situation. Who is responsible? Will Colt and Ivy get a happy ending? Wait to you see what happens-don’t forget to get the bonus epilogue!
We also have Cowboy Night on Friday, bringing single men and woman together. This was Ivy’s idea. It is interesting how these nights play out. Let’s not forget gossip girl who prints about the happenings in town. #CowboyNight #SapphireSaloon #WhoIsTheGal-i love these hashtags!
The Spice is Nice is the 2nd book in the Alphas Fall Hard Collection by Zee Irwin. This is an enticing read that grips your attention from the beginning and has you invested in what is transpiring between Colt and Ivy.
You will find suspense, danger, tension, action, witty banter, and off the charts chemistry all wrapped up in this charming story that makes for an entertaining read. Phew.. the interlude between Colt and Ivy in the closet... so Hot! The danger surrounding them just adds to the passionate chemistry that sparks whenever they are together.
I also enjoyed The Forest Grove Gossip Gal column which provides such a cute endearing way of highlight the shenanigans with the characters around town.
I love the characters and can't wait for the next book in the series.
This is book two of the Alpha Fall Hard Collection. It’s a steamy, broken former military man, fake dating, romance with suspense. I loved seeing characters from the author’s It happened series. Great characters that you fall in love with. I really liked how the author built up the relationship between the two main characters. The chemistry between the two main characters can be felt on every page. The author does a great job developing realistic and relatable characters. This story is well written and will draw you into the characters emotions. You feel all their angst and love. I can’t wait to read more of the Goodson’s family stories. This review is based on an early review copy I was sent by the publisher, but this didn't affect the content of my review that I am voluntarily providing.
Everyone has things in their past that hurt them or haunt them or that they’re trying to forget. Both Colt and Ivy have been through things that have shaped how they approach every day, how they see themselves and those secrets are weighing them down. But one stolen rescue kiss and the walls start falling, and they have a reason to rely on each other. They help each other put the past to rest and move on. I really liked Ivy and Colt. Ivy is dedicated to rebuilding her relationships with her sisters and building a life in her town. Colton realizes he has found a new home, a found family and a new life that fits him now but that doesn’t mean cutting all ties with his past. Good story. Lots of feels and heat, danger and courage.
