Jeff Lemire is a New York Times bestselling and award winning author, and creator of the acclaimed graphic novels Sweet Tooth, Essex County, The Underwater Welder, Trillium, Plutona, Black Hammer, Descender, Royal City, and Gideon Falls. His upcoming projects include a host of series and original graphic novels, including the fantasy series Ascender with Dustin Nguyen.
Theresa's journey continues as she begins to embrace her powers, using them to help her friend find her missing brother and her mother's boyfriend's attackers. But the answers she finds aren't without consequence, and the plot surrounding Limberlost seems to be even further reaching than expected.
These are the kinds of stories I feel like Lemire excels at. The intimate, smaller stories (although there's a lot more going on than you'd think) that focus in on the characters as much as anything else. I think it's why stuff like Black Hammer got away from him at times, whereas stuff like Sweet Tooth and Trillium held my attention all the way through. We're moving steadily forward, with a few answers and even more questions unfolding along the way, with Lemire's trademark squiggly artstyle giving the world of Minor Arcana its own individual feel.
Wow. This one is really starting to come together. There is a bigger story at work, and we are starting to see the roots of that start to take shape. However, it's really the character moments that really start to shine. Lemire is juggling a lot of characters that are all going through some stuff, but he does a great job balancing each story and giving everyone great moments of growth. The pacing, as typical Lemire, is perfect, and it definitely leaves you wanting more, but I felt like I got some pretty tasting chunks of a meal, as well.
I think this series is bloody brilliant. Loving Tarot as I do, the use of the various MAJOR arcana cards to create the story makes this very compelling. Loved it so far! Please, suh, may I have s'more.
