When a player gets pulled into a deadly horror game and becomes the maid to the reincarnation of the devil, she only has one goal—survive!
In the highly anticipated horror game The Murderer of Pflatzgraff Manor, players control the character Adrian—a handsome young man who happens to be the reincarnation of the devil—with the goal to kill as many people as possible to satisfy Lilith's Curse. However, fans are tearing it to shreds because it's way too hard to beat. One night, after drunkenly attempting to rack up that digital kill count, a player falls asleep and wakes up in the world of the game—but as Hilda, one of Adrian's maids. And Hilda is a convenient source of human flesh for Adrian's murder quest. Where's the "escape" button when you really need it?!
Can Hilda outwit and outlast the literal devil, or will this review-bombed horror game become her grave?
I loved the start a lot more but I think it started being less tight around the Count's arc. I felt like the plot was simply for the sake of prolonging the story at that point, without a core point to focus around. It was still enjoyable, but became a bit sloppy then. I think it could've had a better delivery for the interesting theme of anxious attachment in romantic relationships.
A welcome surprise! Isekai Webtoon that feels fresh with its horrorgame setting.
The art: The art style is fine and fittingly dark, but I wouldn't recommend it just because of the art. Some atmospheric panels are difficult to read as they have dark backgrounds with spiders and blood splatters seemingly randomly wallpapered on them: This is especially noticable in the intro of the Lillith-curse under which Lord Adrian suffers, it could have looked much better and clearer and I had to go back a few times. I liked that it used pixelart images at some points as that fit the game's narrative.
The story: It was really good! Hilda (thank you for this name) is a gamer girl and seemingly dies because she drank too much alcohol while spending the whole night playing a new game. Sadly that new game is a rather difficult horror game that she constantly shit talks. Instead of playing the protagonist Adrian, Satan in the flesh, she's reborn as his maid Hilda with the additional burden of having to bring him his medicine every day - even though she knows this guy is a secret serial killer who could end her at any moment.
I liked that the "game" is actually difficult and feels like a game, as Hilda gets punished whenever she makes a mistake (usually means she loses her hard-earned cash) and there's no easy-mode package or shortcut. Some events only work with game logic and are not questioned by the other characters and the game is bugged on top of it.
Because of her gamer knowledge she already knows that Adrian is her enemy, so she tries to be unremarkable and his eyes while he thinks she's suspicious and might be his enemy. A game of cat and mice ensues, additionally she sabotages his murder plans to keep her friends safe. New features and places are unlocked regularly while the story isn't that predictable yet. I'll get the sequel for sure.
Bin jedenfalls gespannt, was da noch so kommt!
Was ich mag?
I'll go ahead and add my voice to the masses. I'm not "sold" on the narrative yet. It's got a solid concept and I'll probably give volume 2 a chance and see where we end up but so far the "comedy" keeps destroying any mood that manages to be built up and it bums me out.
ngl im pleasantly surprised! finished s1 of the manhwa~
the concept is new and unique. i wasnt sure i'd enjoy it at first, since ive mostly read transmigration stories to historical manhwas.
this one really is good! it's a story of a transmigrator getting sucked into a horror game as the maid of all characters. very likeable female lead! i think hilda has gen z humor and since she's less than a side character within the game then it takes a while for the relationship build up
for me it was boring in the beginning (there was nothing too compelling for me to hold onto except the romance, which is unfortunate). while i do like the game concept, it wasn't enough and hilda didn't have any relationships outside adrian, adrian's family, and adrian's household (considering that, well, she IS a maid in the household). it redeemed itself by the last few chapters because the romance picked up pace
The plot is so unique! Unlike typical isekai trip to a novel the mc had previously read, this time it had happened to be a game. Loved the blend of horror, humour and blooming romance. Adrian is definitely a character for sure.
