Despite being an avid medical thriller junkie, I just couldn't rate this boom way up there as some of the writing was just a bit too scattered as characters kept jumping on planes to get wherever they needed and me he had any trouble with do ding transportation, eve. from the middle of nowhere.

So, why did I keep reading it then? Although written as a fictional book, I read most medical books and look for the reality of everyday life in them an I this case the author hit on an extremely important aspect of medical care that many people are completely unaware of and that is the HUGE role that pharmaceutical companies hold over the medical community and we as patients. It all comes down to the almighty dollar an if a new drug cannot make a company a fortune than it is stalled in the approval process, undocumented errors are found to keep it from going further in testing or any array of problems are "found".
In this instance, a cure Is found for cancer but the big pharmaceutical company cannot let the cure be erased to the public or they will lose major money. First, because it would mean after payment for treatment of a few Injections their patients t would be cured an have no need to return for addition treatments. That means the big money making drugs that are used for .maintenance a. long term use (ex: chemotherapy or radiation us all the anti nausea drugs) that make billions for the company would no longer be needed. It would also mean life spans would be I creased drastically causing drainage on our social security, which is already in trouble (so now we have politicians involved).

Cancer just happened to be the disease used in this novel as almost everyone has been effected by it in some personal way. But, think about it realistically. If a disease as complicated as cancer can be cured then we should be a leader to cure just about every illness. This is the extreme opposite of what our big pharmaceutical companies and the crooked politicians that are bed with them do not want to happen.

Does the idea of this scare you? Well it frightens me terribly as I believe that there are already cures available for many of the diseases we see prevalent today but we as the average person are never going to know about them and neither are the many wonderful discography there that want to see their patients taking cured Why not? Because they only get to see the products that the pharmaceutical companies have at progress through FDA testing and approval. They have the right to stop any research at any point they want and unless their is some form of full transparency for them this will continue to be the case(&we can't have full transparency or no company will invest the huge dollars require for research if other companies can watch them and wait until nearing completion before jumping in the game...and yes, it is a game to them..money making game.

It bothers me almost every day as I deal with a multitude of diseases/illnesses that could be cured most likely and so do many people I care deeply about and I'm sure the same pairs to you. Just some serious thoughts to ponder when thinking about who we place in charge of our medical future ( politicians, head of FDA, rules for pharmaceutical companies just to name of few)
