Sharing the Good Earth is an informative and well-presented history of the RA&HS of SA’s 175 years (as of 2014), detailing the Society’s many activities and events to engage, support and promote rural industries within South Australia. This neatly designed publication is full of stories from its formation in 1839 through years of drought, war, economic crises and other difficulties, highlighting the resilience needed to continue its role to enrich the state’s people and economy. A decent selection of maps, illustrations, photographs and Royal Show ephemera visually support the text, documenting important members of the Society, and charting the evolution of the staged exhibitions that would continue to remain immensely popular until the current day.
A written and photographic account which utilises a number of primary sources to unpack the 175 year history of a South Australian institution. Beautifully illustrated, particularly in the early stages.
