In this text, Burke clearly lays out what Organization Development is (a case must meet three criteria which can be found in the text) and what it is not (anything that does not meet his three criteria). While Burke claims a bias in his writing, it is refreshing to see that in spite of a perceived bias, he lays out explicit guidelines for practitioners and students of OD alike to use in order to increase their understanding of the concepts behind OD, and to help develop the skills necessary to create and implement successful OD-based interventions.

One of the many useful books in the Addison Wesley OD Series. In this edition, Burke describes OD and several foundational OD models. This is useful for those new to OD or managers in large organizations who leverage OD practices.
