Cordelia has just killed her guardian. At least, that’s what she believes after fending off his lecherous advances. Still, scandal was inevitable, especially after she kissed a Duke...
But nothing happens in Duke Mason’s castle without him knowing. So, terrified that her diversion failed, she runs off. And he was certain he would never see her again…until his mother hired her as her new companion.
She only needs shelter until her inheritance is hers and her guardian can no longer touch her. But the longer Mason keeps her under his roof, the more he finds himself tempted. Protecting her was never the problem… resisting her is.

I wasn't expecting to laugh so much while reading this. I just love the character/name of Cordelia as well as the Duke's mother is lovable. The Duke of course is in deniable about his feelings for Cordelia when he marries her to protect her from her evil guardian. And there is a happy ending.
Cordelia had the worst guardian you could imagine, all he wanted was her money. Step in Mason, who grew to really care for Cordelia and help save her as they found love together.
Believable characters. A villain that you want to see punished. A couple made to feel they weren’t enough by one their parents and fighting to overcome the damage that caused so that they could love each other.
Loved the characters and the author brought them to life with their personalities. It left me smiling and a happy ending. It was during a time when women didn’t have rights.
Cordelia and Mason seemed to be an extremely mismatched couple, she was a bit ditzy and he was very serious. Gradually they smoothed each other’s rough edges and married. Unfortunately Cordelia was being threatened and it was entertaining how they solved the situation.
