Running from my wedding was reckless. Falling into the arms of a grumpy, older cowboy? Fate.I left Atlanta in a silk gown. Stranded in a storm. No plan. No way back.
Then Weston Burks found me. Brooding. Possessive. Rough hands. One look and he claimed me.
I’ve never been touched. Never been claimed. But he sees me. Every curve. Every part of me. And he wants it all.
He says I belong to him. And for the first time in my life… I want it to be true.
Her Journey to Finally Finding Her Home - Melissa didn’t have a plan when she escaped from her wedding, but fate brought her to a small town where she met Weston who helped her out of a distressing situation and gave her shelter. Weston felt an inexplicable pull towards Melissa from the moment he met her, but having her stay in his home and cook for him heightened his attraction towards her. It soon became too much for Weston, so he decided to take his chance to explore whether Melissa was interested, which led to one heck of a night.
Weston decided to stake his claim on Melissa, so he did everything possible to make sure everyone knew she was his by introducing her around the town, but he was also also anxious about whether she would want to stay permanently in the small town. Luckily, Melissa was able to assure him of her decision to stay by telling him about her life before she run away, which gave him confidence in the permanence of their relationship and a chance at a future together.
This was a beautifully written tale with lots of humour, some personal growth, a few spicy moments and unconditional love, that came together splendidly in this feel-good romance story. Ali Wilder is a new author for me and I must say it’s been a pleasure reading this book.
I received a copy of this book free and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
The first thing I'll say is that with how short this story is, the characterization, pacing, and overall exposition are done very well. We jump into Melissa's near-miss with wedded disaster, and the details are sprinkled in expertly enough to keep the reader invested.
Do I find Melissa's parents' obsession with her ex' money and status one-dimensional? Sure. But THEY'RE not integral to the story; Melissa and Weston are. I even appreciate how the insta-love was handled. It felt realistic enough to work well as device and plot point.
What knocked down my rating was honestly how overdone Weston's possessiveness was. It was an excellent counter to Richard's need to erase Melissa's personality, but still. It was a bit much for my taste.
Melissa ran away from a groom who would not accept her as herself and tried to change her. She ends up on the side of the road with a dead car and a dead phone in her grandmother's bridal gown. A truck stops and Weston, a nearby rancher, gets out and asks if she needs help. Weston takes her to his ranch and gives her clothes his sister left behind. He has not been dating for 2 years and thinks she is beautiful. He wants to take care of her and protect her. The next day she starts cooking for Weston and his ranch hands. The attractions builds until they commit to one another and Weston claims her as his own.
Heartwarming An awesome love story! She’s running from the mold that didn’t fit her. He sees her stranded and knows she’s his. Together they can build a life they both deserve, I loved this story, I received it as a gift from the author and am so happy!
Short instalove story that I fell in love with. Just to have someone love you for you especially being treated poorly for 3 years. This story has powerful emotions.
