Tattooed Cowboy: An Age-Gap, High-Heat Alien Cowboy Romance

Rate this book
He’s not just a cowboy. He’s the last Wildblood—and she’s the human who makes his heart hum. When Melody’s near, the air itself vibrates. Her laugh, her scent, the rhythm of her heartbeat—it all stirs the Wildblood buried beneath my skin. I’ve spent years pretending to be just another rancher, a quiet man with calloused hands and sins I can’t confess.

Then, one night, she looks at me like I’m the only man she’s ever seen—and the part of me that was never human answers back.

One kiss sparks a bond older than stars—something my kind was never meant to feel. Melody isn’t just temptation; she’s resonance. Harmony. Home.

But the moment we give in, the constructs built to hunt my people rise again.

To protect her, I’ll have to stop hiding what I am and let the hum inside me become the weapon it was always meant to be.

Some men are born cowboys.
Others are carved from starlight.

Tattooed Cowboy is a steamy, forbidden alien cowboy romance set in the shadow of the Sierra Nevada—where love hums through blood, legends wake in the mountains, and one woman’s heart could save an entire kind.

TATTOOED COWBOY is part of the multi-authored Dirty Cowboys series. It's a short and steamy, instalove, OTT, age-gap, opposites-attract, grumpy-sunshine, double virgin, fated mates, curvy girl gets her alien cowboy romance. Maveryk is a hunky alien Cowboy. Melody is a curvy college student who is coming to visit her grandparents for the first time in 10 years after her mom had a falling out with them. Maveryk is her grandparents' neighbor who doesn't appear to age. When Melody arrives, the pull between her and Maveryk is strong. He tries to resist for numerous reasons but Melody can't stay away. They will find their past and present is intertwined more than they realize. This was a very different book from Engrid but I loved it and look forward to more. The chemistry was hot and the ending was happy.

He’s tried to silence what he is. She’s the song that breaks through.

Melody returns to her grandparents’ ranch after nearly a decade, looking for peace, maybe clarity. Instead, she finds Maveryk, a tattooed cowboy with haunted eyes and a strange pull that makes the air shift when they’re near. The land hums, her blood responds, and something buried deep begins to stir.

Maveryk’s spent years hiding who he really is. The marks under his skin aren't just ink, and what runs through his veins isn’t something the world is ready to see. But Melody isn’t like anyone he’s ever known. She doesn’t just notice him, she syncs with him. One touch sets off a chain reaction neither of them can stop.

When old forces resurface and strange signals ripple through the mountains, they’re no longer just running from the past. They’re standing in the middle of something much older, much louder, and far more dangerous than either expected. The bond between them hums with power, but it might not be enough.

Together, they have to decide if their connection is a warning or a weapon. And whether love is worth what it might cost.

Maveryk starts off closed off and careful, a man shaped by silence and survival. Melody brings light, but she’s no stranger to shadows. As the bond between them deepens, they both change, opening, trusting, choosing each other in the middle of everything that tries to pull them apart. Their relationship is slow-burn, high-voltage, and full of things left unsaid until the moment they can’t be held in.

A steamy, forbidden, fated mates, age gap, alien cowboy romance with supernatural tension, small town secrets, buried power, and a bond too deep to ignore. It’s about connection, legacy, identity, survival, and the kind of love that shifts the ground beneath your feet.

The Elevator Pitch: A steamy, forbidden alien romance where a tattooed cowboy hides more than scars and the girl drawn to him awakens something ancient. Their bond crackles with fate, danger, and a pull that defies rules written in blood and starlight. Electric with tension and cosmic heat, it's a story of love that reshapes the world around it.

Maveryk might be an Earthling, but he isn’t human. He’s what others call Wildblood, which doesn’t really explain much if you aren’t one of them. He doesn’t age like humans, lives longer than humans, has abilities that humans don’t have. And he’s a descendant of refugees who crashed on this planet a long time ago.

The nearby Starborn Range is off limits, locked down by the government. It does make a person wonder what’s going on in those mountains, since strange weather patterns and auroras tend to happen there. And then there’s the humming, because all things have a frequency. But not everyone can hear or feel it.

Melody is back from college with a degree in journalism. She’s been separated from her grandparents for years, due to some falling out between them and her parents. As she’s now an adult, she can do what she wants. And seeing Maveryk again…well, she definitely wants him.

But he’s not supposed to mate with humans. Big no-no, that.

For being new to the genre of sci-fi romance, this author knocks it out of the park. The reality she’s created, the lore of the Wildbloods, the settings…it all reads as if the author has been writing this genre for years. She created a fascinating backstory and didn’t overexplain or bog down the lore with exposition. It’s just long enough to be satisfying, and just short enough to leave me with questions about whether she’ll continue a series in this world, or create something else. Regardless, I’m on board.

Fair warning, this is a steamy story. But it’s not just about the steam. There’s a reason that Maveryk and Melody are drawn to each other, and can’t stay away, but you’ll have to read the book to find out. And you really should read the book. As in, stop reading this and GO GET THE BOOK!

I went into this story expecting the blend of cowboys and aliens to sizzle but, truthfully, I’m not sure it quite worked. At least not for me. I kept wishing Maveryk had simply been a cowboy with an alien heritage, a hint of mystery and those glowing tattoos that came alive whenever Melody was near, and just left it at that. The added layers of agelessness, healing powers, and shadowy constructs bent on wiping out the Wildblood race pushed the concept just a touch too far for my taste. Maybe it’s because I’m not used to this particular cocktail of small-town romance and sci-fi, or because the novella format didn’t leave much room for the kind of world-building that could make the fusion really sing. Still, that’s just my personal preference, it doesn’t take away from the author’s undeniable skill. The prose is immaculate, as always. Maveryk himself is the archetypal tall, silent type, carrying the weight of an ancient secret. He may not hail from another planet, but he’s certainly not entirely human. Melody, meanwhile, returns to her grandparents’ ranch after nearly a decade away, only to find herself drawn to the enigmatic cowboy who seems frozen in time. When they touch, something ancient stirs, a connection written in the stars. But that bond also reawakens his enemies, the Hollowed Ones, who have hunted his kind for generations. As danger closes in, Maveryk is prepared to sacrifice everything to protect Melody, until he realizes that she, too, carries power in her blood. Together, they may be stronger than either ever imagined. All in all, it’s a fascinating premise and beautifully written, even if the mix of western grit and cosmic myth didn’t quite click for me.

Melody comes home to her grandparents’ ranch looking for peace and maybe a little clarity after life leaves her untethered. What she doesn’t expect is him—Maveryk Wildblood. Tattooed. Quiet. The kind of man who looks like he carries both storms and secrets behind those dark eyes.

From the moment they reconnect, something strange stirs between them—something that feels less like attraction and more like recognition. The air hums, the ground seems to breathe, and every time they’re near each other, it’s like the world tunes itself to a frequency only they can hear.

But Maveryk isn’t just a cowboy. The marks under his skin aren’t ink—they’re warnings. What runs through him isn’t fully human. And loving him doesn’t just break rules, it shakes the stars themselves.

This story isn’t just about heat (though there’s plenty of that—holy tension). It’s about two people learning that love can be both dangerous and divine. Melody brings light to the quiet places Maveryk’s buried for years, and he gives her something no one else has ever managed: a reason to stay.

Tattooed Cowboy is fated mates done beautifully—steamy, soulful, and full of cosmic ache. It’s for the readers who love a grumpy, haunted hero with a heart he doesn’t think he deserves, and a heroine strong enough to love him anyway.

It’s small-town, starborn magic with dirt under its nails and a heartbeat you can feel through the page.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy and am voluntarily reviewing it. This book was so unexpected. Ms. Eaves gave readers a supernatural story that somehow fit with the theme of the series as well. Melody is back with her grandparents on the ranch after earning her college degree. Melody was 12 the last time she was at the ranch. Now she is all grown up and wanting to be called Mel. Maveryk, a neighboring cowboy, had not changed one bit in all that time. Something is happening between Maveryk and Melody.

This book takes readers on a journey with a race of people who are trying to stay undetectable and the group searching for them. When the group searching for them come close to finding Maveryk's people, the Wildbloods, Melody and Maveryk realize that Melody is the missing piece. She will bring the Wildbloods out of hiding and reunite them with the people that have sworn to keep them safe. As a descent of the Songline families, Melody and Maveryk together are able to bridge the gap. Will they realize their connection before it is too late? The Sentinels are hot on Maveryk's trail. This could be the end or the beginning. Readers will want to read this fast-paced story to find out their fate.

Who can resist a tattooed cowboy? I started this book without too many expectations. I like to read blind so I can fully absorb what’s happened without too much bias. The story starts strong with Melody returning to her grandparents home after a long time away. Maveryck, the tattooed cowboy Neighbor comes for dinner and it’s there the electricity starts.

I’m not talking your usual type either. This story taps into other worldly energy that reminds us of what makes us tick. As much as it has alien references they also embrace the energy and magic of nature and ancestry.

I loved the descriptions and visceral feelings that were generated along the way. For a short story there is great character development and connection to the reader.

My favourite quote “For a heartbeat, I’m afraid I’ll lose myself- then realise I’m finding pieces I never knew were missing”

I enjoyed this on a number of levels. Quick read, character building, landscape descriptions, connection to reader, easy to imagine and open at the end to enable sequels.

….. oh and did I mention there’s a tattooed cowboy?

A Wild, Beautiful Ride of Love, Secrets, and Second Chances

Tattooed Cowboy hooked me from the first page with its mix of small-town grit, forbidden romance, and an intriguing sci-fi twist. Engrid Eaves perfectly balances heart-thumping chemistry with heartfelt emotion, crafting a story that’s both passionate and deeply human.

Maveryk is the kind of hero who feels larger than life—protective, complicated, and carrying a secret that makes his story unforgettable. Melody’s warmth and quiet strength make her easy to root for, and the connection between them feels as fated as it does fierce. The Sierra Nevada setting adds a vivid, cinematic backdrop that made me feel like I was right there under the wide, starlit sky.

This isn’t just a spicy cowboy romance—it’s a story about identity, trust, and the power of finding someone who sees you for exactly who you are. Fans of high-heat love stories with a touch of the extraordinary will devour this one in a single sitting.

It's inevitable.... undeniable

Maveryk has been hiding but the moment he sees Melody ....he knows. The beat gets stronger, the Wildblood stirs and the sparks fly, he tries to run, to hide. But Melody knows no fear, she follows and she trusts him, she could have sentenced them both to death...
But together the hum gets louder, the beat pulses, the heat is seering and they realise they are so much stronger, together they can defeat them. And tomorrow they start new.
This is a strange and complex tale of legends and whispered histories, Mav and Melody have both heard bits of their ancestry, but have no idea what to believe...until belief is their only option!
This is not my favourite book in this Dirty Cowboys series, but I didn't dislike it either, it wasn't what I expected. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.

Cowboy romance.
Melody is a young woman returning to her family ranch for the holidays. She quickly reconnects with Maveryk, a magnificent cowboy on whom she develops a crush. But many questions remain unanswered about him: his strange tattoos, his wounds that mysteriously disappear, not to mention the strange electricity between them.
Maveryk is a cowboy on a small-town ranch. While he tries to live far from civilization, the beautiful Melody can't help but be drawn to him since his return, and the electricity between them is proof that there's more to their relationship. But he can't commit when he's hiding a secret.
Will Melody and Maveryk have a beautiful love story, or will Maveryk keep his distance to protect his secret….

I'm new-ish to alien romances and I thought this would be a nice change from my usual.
Maveryk isn't your average cowboy, he is the last of the Wildbloods on earth, living a quiet life on a ranch, but then came Melody, the one who makes things forbidden.
This is a short story that reads smoothly and isn't rushed at all. You learn about about the main characters and the backgrounds that made them who they are, which is what some short stories lack. But not this one.

I really enjoyed this story and I definitely recommend it.

Fast paced with a storyline that took a turn I definately didn't see coming! Maveryk was a loner cowboy, and determined to stay that way, until Melody crashed into his carefully maintained world. He tried to keep her on the periphery, to protect her from what she didn't know or understand, but he could only take so much of her incessant prodding. I enjoyeded the connection between them and the joint dynamic. There were twists that I didn't anticipate and had to mentally catch up to what happened with the characters. Certainly an interesting plotline.

Melody is home at her grandparents house. She's not been there for 9 years. She misses the land and the unhurt music that calls to her. Maveryk has been protecting this land for a long time. But it is unknown why his tattoos glow on his forearms. How he is able to help a calf who was stuck in the barbed wire fencing. It's not really a mystery it's folklore yet not. This traction that is between the two is unspoken but heard and felt through the melody between the two. Very interesting. Loved the situation that was created from the past that is now become the present. Very good story.

Melody is visiting her grandparents and reunite with Maveryk, their neighbor.

This was a very quick read as it was under 80 pages. The characters were fairly developed for such a short book. They were all likable and the lead couple did have amazing chemistry. There was also a supernatural/alien storyline running through the book.

What a great change of pace. This age gap cowboy short read brought a mixture of rugged cowboy and an ancient civilization long forgotten. Melody visits her grandparent’s ranch after nine years away. Whenever she is around Maveryk the surrounding mountains seemed to pulsed with energy. A power that draws them together. Great read.

-A mesmerizing blend of small-town romance and cosmic magic. I received a free copy and am voluntarily sharing my honest thoughts.

Melody and Maveryk’s fated connection hums with tension, secrets, and starlit destiny. The story’s vivid energy ties the supernatural to raw human emotion beautifully.

Steamy, soulful, and unforgettable—love written in both ink and stars.

I did enjoy reading this book, it was passionate and a bit more mystical than I expected, felt more mystical than alien. I also felt like I was missing something though, like I jumped in to the middle of a series or something…I don’t feel like I understood what was going on as far as the alien stuff. If I set that aside for a bit I could just enjoy the story😍. It was quite beautiful😍.

An engaging story that mixes cowboy and ancient alien civilization in a heartfelt romance. Maveryck is not of this world but he is the perfect fit for Melody. These two share a resonance with the surrounding mountains and together they create a pulse of their own that calls to the Wildbloods. A short but captivating story.

Not sure exactly what it was here with Melody and Maveryk. There was definitely some otherworldly going on, but I'm still left somewhat unsure of this tale. I think a bit more background is needed.

Overall, they seemed a sort of ying/yang to each other so that was nice.

Well written characters. Short and spicy story. Great read. I loved this story and the epilogue. It had so much grit and suspense. For once I wished that a short story was way longer. I wish to read more of their journey. Soo good.

This was a different type of romance, the attraction is there as Melody does make his heart sing, but that brings dangers to them. Interesting story, as this deals with hunters that chase his kind. Needed a bit more background to balance out the storyline.

Cowboy Alien

Tattooed Cowboy by Engrid Eaves is part of the multi-author Dirty Cowboys series. I was not sure what to expect with this story as it is quite different from the author's normal story-lines. This is a mix of PNR, cowboy, danger and romance. I am still not sure about the story but it was interesting.
