Where the light ends, their empire begins. In their darkness, no one is safe.Ghost hunting on Halloween night was not Ruby Myers’ idea of a fun night out. Accidentally awakening a starving vampire and capturing the entire incident on a YouTube livestream was in a whole other realm.
Suddenly plunged into a world hidden within her own, she discovers that monsters truly are lurking behind every corner. Only, these monsters have been controlling the world from the shadows for centuries, and they are not happy. They have only one Never expose the existence of vampires.
Ruby and her friends just broke that rule.
As danger unfolds and secrets come to light, cracks begin to form and friendships are tested.
In this new and horrifying reality, will Ruby make it out alive? And what of her friends caught in the crossfire?
Preorder the most anticipated vampire novel of 2025 now. This is a vampire book you won't want to miss.
Sean is a writer and reader of all kinds of books, but he particularly enjoys books with 413 pages. He lives alone in Maidstone with his cats, Molly and Klaus, in an apartment that does not allow pets. He is also quite sure that one of them is trying to kill him. It’s a good thing he’s immortal.
He works as a lab technician by day and writes rather marvelous books by night. Sometimes he writes in the day too, but those books aren’t as good.
the first few chapters took some getting used to, because we follow a few different people and their own plots within the story, and the writing style was a bit different from what i’m used to within a vampire novel however!! once i got into this i was REALLY into it. i didn’t want to put this down, i found every excuse under the sun to get a few pages in whenever i could, i lugged this to london and back in hardcover alongside four books i needed signed just so i could read more of it on the train.
the vampires in this were that classic, ripping heads and tearing throats out kind of vampires, and there was a great amount of fun violence and bloodshed right from the off. as someone who reads vampires in every form, i see a lot of fantasy from them usually and it was nice to get that classic almost small town vibe from them whilst there still being a huge overarching threat
the characters in this took a lot of getting used to, especially those of them that weren’t so nice (and i’m talking about the humans here actually) and sometimes they felt a bit younger than they really were in terms of their dialogue and just blatant immature nastiness — but once i got into their stories and their personalities i really enjoyed rooting for (some of) them, and found myself gasping out loud at several points with my hand over my mouth! i also loved how each characters’ story intertwined with each other towards the end and we got a few hints dropped of potential lines we’d be following throughout the series that i’m really excited for!
the second half of this really kicked off and i absolutely sped through it, i’m so excited for this series to continue and the only negative thing i have to say is that i now have to wait until the next one because i’ve read this one so early on in its journey 😭😭
Every single character was unlikeable, and not in a fun, morally gray way, they were just plain unpleasant. The writing felt juvenile, and I kept waiting for the awfulness of these people to make sense somehow or have a point…but it never did. The vampire parts were mildly entertaining but stayed pretty shallow, and half the storylines felt random or pointless. He was clearly setting up for book two with those random wandering plot points. I’ll give him credit for one thing though, he nailed the terrible men and the brainwashed girlfriend. But the moment she “came to her senses”? Shallow and meaningless arc. I get what he thought he was doing with the arcs, but it didn’t translate at all. The whole thing ended up reading like a neckbeard’s misguided attempt at depth. Sorry. Should’ve DNF’d.
I have really enjoyed all of Sean Stone's other horror/dark urban fantasy fiction series and I was so excited to see he was writing a new book about vampires ruling the world from the shadows.
What happens when live-streaming ghost hunting goes wrong and the humans are set upon by a blood-starved vampire and break the cardinal rule of not exposing vampires as a reality to the human race.
The whole do not expose vampires to the human race is a story that's been told a million times via tv, film and books and this is in a contemporary real world setting with YouTube live-streaming.
It has wonderfully dark and messy vampire politics affecting all sorts of things with our humans not doing as they're told sparking a whole host of drama amongst the vampire hierarchy.
There's no holds barred with some gruesome descriptions of vampire violence and adult scenes and some typical vampire shenanigans making it a read for all us adult vampire story fans.
I was lucky enough to be gifted an advance copy of this by the author.
