All For Edy

Spicy, emotional, and achingly real. A story of love that fights to be seen.

Sunni’s the type who keeps her heart locked up tight, especially in a town like Bloomington, Indiana, where discovering she is a queer woman in the early '80s can get you in trouble. Until Edy crashes into her life, running from her past and undeniably magnetic. Sunni's resistance turns into desire.

When Edy catches her landlord in a compromising situation, they are pulled into a tangled mess of blackmail that could ruin them both. As they grow closer, friendship turns into something deeper and much harder to hide.

Their secret romance burns hot behind closed doors. Edy is falling hard, and Sunni is terrified of getting caught. Trapped between fear and longing, can they find the courage to stop pretending?

I enjoyed this spicy romance, I thought the story was very good, except the time lines did not line up. I think it tried to incorporate too much real history into a short time. Other than that, it was an enjoyable read.

I received a review copy of this book for an honest review! So thank you so much Reid for sending me a copy! No spoilers!!

All for Edy is a sapphic romance novel that takes place in the early ‘80s in Indiana, USA. Sunni and Edy are secret lovers, but are being blackmailed by their landlord unless they can ensure the Men’s Basketball team for Indiana University makes it to the Final Four in the March Madness basketball tournament. The novel highlights the societal stigma around being gay, and the secret societies that were formed to protect the community. All for Edy is also veryy spicy.

What I liked about this book is the portrayal of the community created with the gays, through looking out for eachother, because being outed could have detrimental societal consequences (especially for the main character, Sunni).

Unfortunately this book wasn’t for me, being a cliche romance, so I would give it a 2 stars. It read more like a YA novel, but with spice. I found this book to be hyper-sexual, often taking away from the plot. A lot of the women were described for their “sex appeal” with other odd descriptors such as “exotic” and “biscuit brown skin.” There felt like a rush to get to the spice, so there was no build up for the development of Sunni and Edy’s connection. I would have loved to read more of their connection at the beginning, instead of just being “told” the story of how they met as a past recollection. The hyper-sexualization of their relationship made it harder to read and focus on the story.

Overall, if you like super spicy sapphic romances, and basketball, this novel is for you!!

This book gripped me from the first page. Reid Redman captures the fear, passion, and tenderness of queer love in a time when being yourself wasn’t safe. Sunni and Edy’s chemistry is electric, and their journey felt so heartbreakingly real. I couldn’t put it down!

The mix of forbidden romance and the blackmail subplot had me on edge the whole time. The 1980s setting in Bloomington adds so much depth—you can feel the weight of the time period pressing in on these women. Redman writes with such honesty and care. A masterpiece.

A great coming of age historical sapphic novel set in 1980s Bloomington, Indiana. The characters are complex with an equally entertaining plot. Watching Edy and Sunni fall in love made my heart putter. Lots of spice!
