SSI book six by Eveline Rose is the bomb . And the book cover done with aplomb! I couldn’t get enough of this divine story and I’m eager to go back through the series and read the rest. I’m eager to invest my time because these band of brothers ? Sublime ! In this book we have Ashley and Nathan. Nathan Blaszek ghosted Ashley York a year ago and this bloke has thought about her ever since with a wince . A regret ,remorse . So of course he wants to make amends ,at least be friends…He’s the new Investigator on the Shepherd & Sons Investigation Bureau and his first client? Well what do you know ,the woman who has haunted him so. He wants her back but to face this he has to face his demons to earn her trust and much more because she’s gone ,and not just walked out the door gone either. He needs to make a choice his new career or seeking her out . Well he’s devout in his work but she makes his dick twerk and his heart skip a beat . Perhaps this found family is where he belongs ,is meant to be but he needs her live to set him free first. Like a long drink to quench bis thirst. Well Evelime Rose you certainly quenched mine as this awesome book of yours certainly quenched mine ,it’s divine .sublime! Well worthy of my time . Written well with a the sweet and the little heat as well as the tense and suspense to make it complete .
This novel was alright! I didn’t mind how the story went, but at times I did feel like it was a bit rushed. I understand that this book follows others, but I wish there was just a bit more detail into some of the other characters backstory’s.
I am still thankful for the opportunity to read this as an ARC!
Thank you to Eveline Rose and Happily Booked PR for the opportunity to read and review this ARC. This review is honest, and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
For a closed door romance book, Trapped was quite good. It was well written, the characters likable and well developed, and their struggles relatable (aside from the trauma of being undercover black ops, that’s probs not relatable for… well… pretty much anyone🤷🏻♀️). While it did follow a predictable formula that a lot of contemporary romances adhere to, it was still really enjoyable and I blasted through it in a day.
I gotta start by saying, I LOVED Gran. She stole the show for me and her no-forks-given attitude leads to some pretty great banter. One of my favorite lines from the book is from the MMC: “Terrorists with rifles in the Middle East, no problem. Little old lady using a walker in Weatherford, scared stupid.” I love me a sassy grandma, especially if that sassiness wears off on the FMC, and intimidates yet endears the MMC. Gran coupled with Prince, her tuna devouring demon cat, made this book that much more enjoyable for me.
Aside from Gran and Prince being my favorites, I also liked the other characters in this book. From Ashley with her snarky comebacks and sarcastic humor, to Nathan, grumpy and scarred but hoping to reclaim his happiness. I haven’t read the other books in this series so I’m not familiar with the rest of the SSI group, but their support and understanding for both the MCs gave the best found family vibes.
While this isn’t my typical read due to the lack of ✨spice✨ I still thoroughly enjoyed Trapped. This book has good suspense and action, and the romantic tension was thick, though often made lighter by the snarky and sarcastic comebacks from Ashely and Gran.
Highlights: Gran being intimidating despite her 5’3 stature and needing a walker. Prince being an absolute terror one minute and a snuggly sweetheart the next. The nicknames Ashley gives to the other characters.
If you like closed door, small town, second chance romances with serious touch her and 💀 vibes, check out Trapped!
I didn’t like this book. That doesn’t mean it was a bad book! It just means it wasn’t the book for me.
I didn’t like the FMC’s sassiness. It seemed to me that she was being argumentative for argument’s sake and not for any real reason.
The other thing that hit a personal nerve, and if I had known it was in the book, I wouldn’t have chosen to read it, was a possible accidental pregnancy storyline. I’m terrified of getting pregnant accidentally, myself, so I really don’t like reading about it. The worst part is that this storyline isn’t resolved until about 60% into the book.
These two reasons made me DNF the book for about 2 weeks at that point before I finally picked it back up to write this review.
This book is listed as romantic suspense, and the suspense didn’t really start for me until I picked the book up again at about the 60% mark when the storyline hit its climax. Before then, things were happening but the stakes weren’t high enough, in my personal opinion, to really count as suspense.
Advertisement I also didn’t like the overprotectiveness of all the male characters in the book. I understand some readers love that in MMCs but it turns out, it’s not for me.
Lastly, I chose this specifically because it was a clean romance and I was sick of all the previous books I’d read that had 7 spice scenes clumsily shoehorned into the plot. There was a lot of emotional buildup in the book, which I loved, and it turned out, I felt cheated when it ended without the spice scene it could have been building towards. I feel like Goldilocks and the three bears here. Not fun. Not fun.
Finally, it wasn’t all bad!
What I liked:
I actually did like one thing: the mental health representation. The MMC has PTSD and panic attacks, and uses coping techniques to calm himself down. He also gets emotional support from the FMC. I thought this was done well. This is the main reason I gave this book two stars instead of one.
I am absolutely in love with the Sheppard brothers and their wives and best friends and families 💕 this is the first time I’m reading Eveline Rose’s books and boy, it did not disappoint at all!! Although this is the sixth book in the series, each brother has their own story and all books are interconnected but can be read separately! And I am a sucker for a series of books just like this bc I love a wholesome family who have overprotective brothers and are handsome as hell 🙂↕️
This is the story of Ashley, who recently broke up with her toxic ex boyfriend, ends up getting fired and her grandmother suffers a fall and wants to move back to Weatherford Texas. But one thing or should I say person that Ashley can’t ever forget is Vegas and Scott. A man she met for a few days and when they were supposed to meet up again, he ghosted her without a reason.
Or so we thought…. Nathan just started working at SSI, a family business of private contractors who protect those in need. When Nathan is sent to Grannie’s to pick up coffee, he hears this laughter, the one he has always been dreaming of since Vegas. Given that it’s such a small town and his bosses wives are best friends with Ashley, Nathan couldn’t believe his luck, running into her. But this time around, he has a scar on his face, something he didn’t have before and makes Ashley think that maybe there is more to his ghosting than what she thinks.
This story is full of suspense, banter between friends and a supportive family system! And don’t get me started on Prince, the cutest cat in the freaking world! I love cats and knowing that this baby was abandoned broke my heart. But the way Gran quickly embraced him and called him hers made my heart swell 🥹❤️ I absolutely loved reading this book and the plot twist that I didn’t see coming really made me finish this book in a sitting! I can’t wait to read the rest of the novels in the series bc I love all of these characters 🙂↕️❤️
After losing her job and being evicted, Ashley York moves back to her hometown hoping to get things back on track. What she didn’t expect was to find the man that ghosted her joining Sheppard & Sons Investigations (SSI). Nathan hasn’t been able to get Ashley out of his mind, and he never meant to stand her up. He never expected to find her her again. But there’s things about him that she doesn’t know, and he wants a second chance. Now he must face his demons and tell her the truth, even if it scares him. Now Ashley finds herself in danger, but is it her stalker ex, or something more?
This was a good read. It is number six in the series, and while it technically can be read as an interconnected standalone, I can’t help but feel like I was missing out on some of the dynamics between the characters not having read any of the previous books.
I’m not a huge fan of instalove and this felt very instalove to me. They had two nights in Vegas, he ghosted her, and then a year later they wind up in the same place. He decides that she must be his and he must protect her at all costs. He’s already head over heels, I don’t know – I didn’t feel the connection the way that I wanted to. Maybe if we had the flashback of their interaction rather than just being told about it, it would have felt less instalove.
The action in this book was spot on. It was written so well and it kept things really suspenseful. It also kept certain aspects of this book mysterious. I really enjoyed that! I loved how well they all worked as a team and brought different strengths to the table.
Also, Gran, Ashley’s grandmother, was an AMAZING character. She was a spitfire. One of the BEST side characters!
I was hooked reading this book. I’ve heard about the retired/former/active soldier with their family stories that my mom reads, and this was amazing. This can totally be read as a standalone book, with some tidbits from the previous books thrown in that make me want to collect them all. The characters are three-dimensional and have so much personality. Ashley is so feisty and relatable. I love her so much for literally speaking her mind. Nathan is protective and so head over heels, but is still trying to learn to work in a team. Together, they are like water and magnesium: sparks.
“‘You have two seconds to walk away…before you can’t.’”
But when they said “HEA, but it won’t be easy”, they meant it. Just when I thought things were heading down a good path—BAM—something happens. I really enjoyed trying to piece the mystery together with the SSI members.
I would say 4.5 stars instead of 5 stars because I wish for a little more steam with the sparks; it’s who I am, I can’t help it. But I did love the banter, love, and protectiveness between Ashley and Nathan. I can’t wait to read the previous books to learn more about the family they’ve formed in the series. It’s amazing how much they’re all willing to help each other, and it was so heartwarming to see lone wolf Nathan open up, ask for help, and find where he belongs.
I would recommend this for those looking for a story that’s both heartwarming and cozy, with just enough twists to keep things interesting.
Took a while to finish this book due to school but I really did enjoy it.
I really did love the found family trope that was really prominent in the book. It was also so well written that you could actually picture each characters dynamic and how they all fit together especially when it comes to protecting each other.
I really loved how sassy Ashley was. Her character wasn’t really ever a damsel in distress and she could really take care of herself but her friends were really there for her to help her even if she felt she didn’t need it that much. And of course she also knows when she does need help. I loved how she didn’t let herself be moved so easily by the main character but I also did get annoyed a bit when she wouldn’t let up after a while lmao.
Nathan was a character that really has a lot of trauma following him which made him a really strong character as well. He did struggle a lot with opening up to others and learning to work as a team which was funny to see since he was getting lectured a lot or called out.
I really did love how patient Nathan was with Ashley even when she didn’t understand his situation he was still giving her a try. They both also really understood each other and helped each other overcome their problems and what else was holding them back from getting together.
This book was a very enjoyable read and I would definitely read more from this author!
Trapped by Eveline is the sixth book in the Sheppard & Sons Investigations series. This was the first book I read in the series and while it can be a standalone, details about the supporting characters are included in the previous books which can be helpful to understand for reference and context.
Ashley and Nathan first meet in Las Vegas and he ghosts her. They reunite unexpectedly when Nathan begins working at Sheppard & Sons. Ashley has moved back in with her grandmother to help care for her. Although Nathan ghosted her, his feelings remain.
The action and suspense is well written keeping the reader engaged.
Their chemistry is instalove. I would have liked to have seen their relationship build more. Both characters healing journeys are well written in this story.
Fans of suspense and action romance stories will enjoy this book. This is also a story of second chances. This is a closed door, small town romance. Topics of PTSD, mental health, and stalking are included in this story.
Thank you to Eveline Rose, Sword & Rose, and Happily Booked PR for the opportunity to read and review this book!
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a honest review.
I decided to take a chance on this book for the small town, scarred hero/sassy fmc vibes, and I'm glad I did. Despite this being book 6 in this series, I didn't feel like I missed anything. Eveline does a good job of introducing you to the previous characters and their stories when they come up so I was able to dive right into this small town and get into the story. The MCs, Ashley and Nathan, are very likable despite their hardships, and I think that "down on your luck", lost your job and had to move back home, type of situations are needed in more books. It's real and readers can relate to issues like that.
This was such a good read with delicious tension and a great suspense and action plot line. Although this is very different from my normal reads, I really enjoyed it. For a closed door romance book, the tension was *chef's kiss* and I thoroughly enjoyed the snarky, sassy vibes from both Ashley and Gran. Gran was probably my favorite character in the book, and honestly, having side characters that give the main characters a run for their money is a definite plus for me!
Thank you to Eveline Rose and Happily Booked PR for an advanced reader's copy of this book!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
How could I have not known about this author before?!? I love that this was a standalone but will definitely be looking for books 1-5 to catch myself up. I loved the writing style! I can’t wait to get my hands on the previous books to get to know the rest of the family.
I loved Ashley’s stubbornness. She had every right to be that way after what she had dealt with in her past relationship and without knowing the truth of the situation. Her Gran! Come on! I love her! So glad that Ashley took after her so much. Gran was probably my favorite character at times, lol. I was impressed by Ashley’s resilience with everything she went through with her job, home, etc.
Nathan with his grumpy, protective, possessiveness… Woof! I love his character. He felt a bit stalker-ish at times, but everyone knew where he was coming from. You could feel his remorse for not being able to be honest with Ashley when they first met. My heart ached from his need to take care of her.
I look forward to finding more from Eveline Rose! She for sure knows what she’s doing.
"I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.” Trapped. The last thing Ashley expects when she returns to Weatherford, Texas, is to run into Scott from Las Vegas only to discover that his real name is Nathan. She finds him at Grannies, picking up coffee for his coworkers at Shepard and Sons Investigation, where he now works. Understandably, Ashley is upset; after all, Nathan ghosted her, and she makes her feelings very clear. Nathan, equally shocked to see Ashley at the diner, tries to explain himself. But Ashley isn’t ready to hear him out she wants nothing to do with him. This story is just the beginning of an emotional journey. I highly recommend this book, along with the entire series. Ashley and Nathan’s dynamic is especially compelling he wants a second chance, but she’s burdened with responsibilities and emotional wounds. Living with her grandmother and coping with her past, Ashley struggles with whether she can open her heart again. Nathan’s patience and persistence make their story both heartfelt and unforgettable. 💛
Thank you to Eveline Rose and Happily Booked PR for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.
I’ll be honest, I’m not usually a huge fan of insta-love, and this one definitely leaned that way. Two nights in Vegas, a disappearing act, and then BAM, a year late,r they’re thrown back together, and suddenly he’s all in on protecting her no matter what.
But… this book still had me hooked. There’s so much raw emotion and growth woven into the story that I couldn’t put it down. The tension, the devotion, and the way everything unfolded it kept me turning pages.
Also… can we talk about Gran? She stole every scene she was in, and I was cracking up at almost everything she said. Honestly, worth the read for her alone!
This book definitely made me want to check out the rest of the series, and if you love a mix of angst, devotion, and a side of comic relief, you’ll enjoy this one. 💖
✨ Reading Mood: Protective MMCs, found family vibes, and laugh-out-loud side characters.
Trapped is a continuation of a series based on the males within an investigative and defense company called Sheppard and Sons. When a newcomer to the corporation has history with a beloved best friend of the company men’s wives and families, things get tense. Ashley is feisty, and Nathan wants to win her heart fair this time. But they face unexpected hardships when Ashley is taken hostage by a relic from Nathan’s past.
I will be honest and say I’ve never read any of the other books in this series before picking this up. However, now I want to! This is a really interesting read that expresses a genuine interaction between the two of Ashley’s scorned heart and how Nathan fights to make it right again. It also represents important struggles like PTSD and panic attacks. And the suspense of figuring out who is causing trouble for Ashley adds depth instead of just focusing on the building romance going on. Definitely need to get my hands on the other books in this, but I didn’t find it particularly difficult to find my bearings so late in the series.
The last thing Ashley expects to see when she returns to Weatherford, Texas, is Scott from Las Vegas, and now she finds out his name really is Nathan. He’s at Grannies getting coffee for the guys at SSI who he works for now. Yup she pissed off, and makes it clear she is. He ghosted her.
Nathan can’t believe Ashley is at the diner he’s getting coffee for the guys at the new job he just started. Shepard and Sons Investigation. The new guy buys the coffee at Grannies. She’s mad. He tries to explain. But she doesn’t want to have anything to do with him.
So much more to come. I highly recommend all the books in the series. This might just be my favorite. I love Ashley and Nathan. He wants a second chance, but she has a lot going on. She just doesn’t know if she can. She lives with her grandmother now. It’s just not easy. So he is patient.
After reading Trapped I decided I need to go back and read the rest of the series because it was so good!
Ashley and Nathan originally met a year ago, but when they were supposed to show up for an actual date Nathan was a no show and Ashley had no way to get ahold of him.
When Ashley was back in her small town and ran into Nathan she was shocked to say the least, but she didn’t know his name was Nathan, she thought it was Scott.
Ashley is very distant from Nathan because she feels he lied and he wants to try to rekindle/apologize for the past. When things start to happen to Ashley, Nathan wants to step in and help.
So much happens and it was so good. I was intrigued the entire time and couldn’t wait to see what would happen next!
Definitely worth the read!! If you were to ask me, Gran was worth it the entire time. I was cracking up whenever she said anything!
Thrilling exciting funny and romantic, beautiful found family novel. This is the first book I’ve read in the SSI series and I will be reading the rest. I didn’t need to read them prior as the author kindly introduced the characters. I don’t want to give any spoilers so will keep it short… Ashley and Nathan’s story was sweet, exciting and full of action as I hoped for their happy ending. Gran is a strong sassy sweetheart and Prince is a cute tuna filled demon kitty. I was very fond of the other SSI members and their partners. The scenes about the SSI were written well especially the Scott’s Vegas ones causing me to shed a few tears bless him Thoroughly enjoyed this book
Such a phenomenal story. This one will suck you into this world and not let you go. We have Ashley whose entire life was turned upside down, she moves home to help her grandmother and rebuild said life. She never forgot the man that ghosted her in Vegas, much to her surprise he didn’t forget her either. He managed to land a job with her friends PI company. The way she reacts when seeing him is hilarious. She has a million and one names for him and each one is better than the last. It is a fast paced story full of witty banter, amazing tension, funny nicknames, strong FMC, scarred MMC that would burn the world for her. Loved it and will devour rest of series now.
Number 6 in the series, I have read most of them so it was great to catch up with returning characters, I think you could read as a standalone as very brief info is given about each character but you may wish to check out the others too. Ashley and Nathan a second chance or a proper first chance, I loved seeing Nathan grow and deal with his demons I just wanted to give him a hug. The mental health rep was really well covered in this book. Another great Eveline Rose book.
Thanks to Happily Booked PR, I received this book as an arc!
Although this is not the typical book I would go for, I really enjoyed the mystery/ suspenseful aspects of this novel.
I do wish there had been more of a build up or more story telling of how Ashley + Nathan came to be involved with one another, aside from the fact that he ghosted her after meeting in Vegas. I am a sucker for a backstory!
Overall, this was such a cute novel! I will definitely be adding the other novels of the series into my TBR!
Small town, second chance romance plus suspense !! YES PLEASE!!!
Ashley was so sassy and Nathan is the protective alpha male. Then there's gran I loved how sassy she was lol plus playing matchmaker lol. This is my first Eveline Rose book I read and now I'm going to go read the other books in this series.
Thank you Eveline for allowing me to be part of the ARC team!
I thoroughly enjoyed Trapped! This closed-door romance is well-written, with a great balance of action, heartfelt struggle, and laugh-out-loud humour. The characters are its strongest asset—from the grumpy-yet-hopeful MMC to the snarky FMC. But the true stars are Gran, with her terrifyingly sassy attitude, and her chaotic cat, Prince. The found-family vibes are strong, and the romantic tension is palpable. A highly enjoyable read!
Guys! I live for a touch her and die trope! Thanks to the author and Happily Booked PR for a chance to review and read this lovely romance ARC!
loved this romance for all of the vibes - small town, touch her and die trope and just the humor and relationships throughout. This did lack 🌶️ which I do enjoy in my romances, so that did lower my interest a bit but I found myself rooting for our main characters!
This book is very well written. It follows Nathan and Ashley through their friendship/relationship and shines a light on some tough topics in an eloquent way. Anxiety, PTSD, and stalking are all discussed with such detail and delicacy, simultaneously. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a small town romance with a missed connection/second chance trope. 4.5/5 ⭐️
Oh my goodness wow, not what I expected from start to finish. I could not put my kindle down and neither will you, from being in a red flag relationship to finding someone she deserves, and having protective friends and family in a small town where everyone knows everyone but this also has some parts where it will be funny so be prepared.
This is my first book from this author and I really enjoyed this book! I will definitely be reading the 5 books leading up to this! This romance series has military background which I love and just the right amount of plot!
This was a great book and I was hooked right way. I really liked the suspense and it kept me on the edge. I couldn’t put the book down because I wanted to know what would happen next. I would defiantly read more books by this author.
ARC reader!!! Ok I need more stars because I love love loved this story!! My body was so tensed when Ashley was kidnapped, I knew Casper would find her but still!! I cried my eyes out lol I can wait for the next book!!
